Todoroki sat up from his bed, slowly, to the sound of rain outside his window, just like he had thought. He looked at the grey from the window, only dim light pouring in. He wondered if Kirishima was awake yet, as he slowly slipped out of the bed, pushing his sheets aside. Feet landing on the floor, he slowly headed out of his room, and towards Kirishima’s, his mind wandering quietly. Was he really going to do this today? Todoroki sighed, and he slowly pushed open the sliding door to Kirishima’s room just a bit, peeking in at him. He was still asleep, red hair sprawled around his pillow, a large shark plush wrapped in his arms. A flicker of a smile flashed across the usually stoic male’s face. He had to do this today, there was no question about it. After all, he did tell Izuku that he was going to. He couldn’t go back on his friends wishes. Todoroki gazed at Kirishima for a few quiet moments, before he closed the door again, and stepped back, a sigh of, well fear, escaping him. He smoothed down his shirt, and turned, heading off to the kitchen to make Kirishima some coffee, having memorized exactly the way he liked it. Of course he did, he had nothing better to do. He began to brew the coffee, a hand resting against the top of the coffee machine, the other against the counter, tapping his nails against the granite. Could he even do it? After all, he had voiced his concerns and fears with Izuku yesterday, and the green haired male managed to debunk them all, but that didn’t get rid of the rolling anxiety he could feel in the pit of his stomach about it all. After all, what is Kirishima really did say no? For any reason, it didn’t matter, if he said no, it would just crush Todoroki. He’d probably move out too, and go find his own house or something. Todoroki stared at the tile floor, his eyebrows furrowed in worried concentration. How would he cope? What would he do? He could always just move away somewhere and wallow in his sadness in exile. Or maybe he could stay at Izuku and Katsuki’s like he did a little before--but Katsuki wasn’t too happy with him being there. They had argued a bit. Plus, would he even want Todoroki there? Not after what happened during the bachelor’s party, had he even proved himself enough to be forgiven by the blonde yet?
Todoroki’s fervent worries were quickly snapped out of when a sleepy “hey” came from behind him, the male turning to see Kirishima, with a shifted shirt and messy hair, walk towards him. He looked so beautifully domestic, it almost hurt.
“Good morning,” Todoroki murmured, the redhead taking the place beside him, his arms stretched above his head.
“Morning, dude,” he sighed. “How’d you sleep?”
“Well,” Todoroki offered, turning his attention back towards the coffee machine, which bubbled and hissed as it heated.
“Mh, good! I slept great,” Kirishima smiled. “Chatting with everyone was just what I needed! I mean, I still feel bad about what Sero and I did to Katsubro, but I hope he knows I didn’t really mean to upset him,” he said.
“I’m sure he knows. Just text him, or call him.”
Kirishima laughed, nodding. “Yeah, I will.”
The two fell into silence, Todoroki working the words he wanted to say around in his mouth, shifting side to side as he tried to manage them out. Kirishima noticed, glancing over at the taller, two toned male.
“You okay?”
“Hm, yes. It’s raining,” Todoroki replied.
“Oh, man, I know!” Kirishima broke into a grin, beautiful and bright. “I’m so glad, I love it when it rains!”
“I was..” Todoroki started, the machine before him beeping, the male pressing a button and watching the dark coffee pour out into the ‘K’ painted cup he set under it. “I was wondering if you wanted to go to the cafe. Like before. We can have hot chocolate and stuff, since its raining.”
This was it. Would he accept? Todoroki’s heart beat in his throat, and he blinked quickly, swallowing back his nerves. This was only step one anyways.
Kirishima grinned, and he nodded, his bangs shifting across his gleeful face with him. “Hell yeah! That sounds super fun, man! Aww, you know just what I like,” he laughed, and Todoroki couldn’t help but let out a laughing breath, shrugging lazily.
“I guess I do,” he said, and lifted the cup away from the machine, setting it into Kirishima’s hands. “I’ll get the creamer.”
“Oh--shit, I didn’t even realize! You don’t have to make my coffee, dude. I don’t wanna make you feel like a maid.”
“You don’t. I wanted to make it,” Todoroki said, returning with the creamer, and pouring just about a fourth of a cup into it, watching the dark surface be broken up by clouds of a creamy white, and slowly stir in, tinting the coffee a tan color. “I like making it. It’s nice watching it change color.”
Kirishima laughed, and he smiled, lifting a hand to tuck a strand of his hair behind his ear. Todoroki loved it when he did that. He wanted to do that. He wanted to tuck hair behind Kirishima’s ear and trace his fingers down his chin, and look at him as he smiled and blushed. It made his heart race and his palms sweat just to think about.
“Mh, it is pretty nice, isn’t it?” Kirishima said, accepting the spoon Todoroki handed to him, and stirring the coffee the rest of the way. He lifted the cup to his lips, and took a sip, a noise of happy enjoyment leaving him. “It’s perfect, man! Hell, you make my coffee better than I do.”
Todoroki smiled faintly at the compliment. “It’s because you add too much creamer.”
“Is that why it’s always so milky?” Kirishima asked against the rim of his cup, laughing when Todoroki nodded.
“Don’t laugh. You’ll choke.”
“Sorry,” Kirishima hummed, and he swirled his cup, taking another drink. “After this, we can head out to the cafe, okay?”
“Okay,” Todoroki breathed softly, and watched Kirishima smile at him, the redhead unaware of the way he made Todoroki’s heart skip two beats, and his lungs stop working. This wasn’t going to be easy on his respiratory or cardiovascular system, Todoroki already knew that.
----
“Are you dressed?” Todoroki knocked on the wall of Kirisima’s wall.
“Yeah!”
“...appropriately?” the male added, considering Kirishima would often go outside in shorts and a tank top if it was snowing, deeming it manly.
“Is this good enough?” Kirishima asked, pushing open his sliding door to show his outfit for approval.
The male wore a cream colored sweater and grey pants, along with a knitted Little Mermaid scarf, but that wasn’t what Todoroki was focused on. It was the fact that Kirishima wore one of his coats over it, his dark toffee colored duffle coat, unbuttoned. It looked beautiful on him, complementing his gorgeous complexion, and the lack of makeup he wore that day, showing off the gentle scatter of freckles around his nose and cheeks, his face framed sweetly by his hair, let down and the back pulled into a small bun. God, he was beautiful, it was almost painful.
Todoroki nodded, himself in only a dark grey turtleneck and brown pants, with a brown beanie. “Yes,” he murmured. “That’s fine.
“Perfect! Let’s go!” Kirishima clapped, hopping past Todoroki to go get his shoes, the taller male following behind him.
Soon enough, the two stepped outside, Todoroki with Timberland boots, and Kirishima with brown Crocs, and cream socks. Todoroki had warned the other that rain would get on his socks, but Kirishima didn’t listen, saying the Crocs were too comfortable to go without. The two, under a shared umbrella, headed quickly down the sidewalk to the cafe that was close by the house, rain pattering onto the umbrella above them. Kirishima pressed close into Todoroki’s side, and the male felt like his heart was going about as fast as the rain was coming down, the two rushing towards the lit cafe in refuge from the downpour. Once safe, Kirishima giggled, and shook the rain that dwed on him, while Todoroki closed the umbrella, the two pushing open the door of the cafe they frequented, which was empty.
“Great! Just us, huh?” Kirishima smiled, hopping towards the window booth they always took. “This was such a great idea, man, its so warm in here.”
“I assumed you’d like it,” Todoroki said, sliding into the booth across Kirishima, watching the redhead unwrap his spark printed with Ariel’s smiling face, and fold it onto his lap.
“Well, yeah, I mean, it’s hot chocolate,” Kirishima smiled, the redhead turning towards the woman who approached their table.
The two visited the cafe enough for their orders to be practically memorized, and she smiled. “Peppermint hot chocolate and Pumpkin Spice?” she pointed out, the two nodding. “Sure thing. Warm croissants will be out in a minute.”
“Mhh, great!” Kirishima smiled. “Did you wanna come today cuz it was raining, dude?”
“Yeah, that was it,” Todoroki agreed, nodding lightly. But that wasn’t all. He was also here to do something he had wanted to do for about 2 months or so, and now that he was here, he couldn’t back out of it. He wasn’t going to act on it until later, though, he just needed to set the atmosphere, make sure there was nothing awkward. “Plus, I know you like coming here when it rains.”
“I do! It just has this kinda ambience that you can’t get at home, y’know?” Kirirshima laughed, and he looked out the window, watching the rain. His eyelashes, dark and long, created shadowed lines across his cheeks, his bright, rosy eyes reflecting the streaks and drops of rain that patterned against the window. He was absolutely stunning, Todoroki couldn’t tell himself that enough. A gentle smile curled at the edges of Kirishima’s plump lips, and he chuckled. “It’s just like that kinda… I don’t know. Hot chocolate and rain just go together.”
“I agree.”
“Well, I’m the only one having hot chocolate, anyways.”
“I was never a melted chocolate fan.”
“It’s not melted chocolate,” Kirishima sighed, and Todoroki laughed under his breath. “It’s like… chocolate! Just warm.”
“Warm chocolate is melted chocolate.”
“Okay, okay! You drink the Pumpkin Spice thing, what is that? Coffee?”
“It’s actually tea,” Todoroki said.
“Ew.”
“Well your chocolate isn’t even chocolate. It’s peppermint.”
“Ah! It’s peppermint and chocolate, it counts! It counts!”
Todoroki rolled his eyes, subtle and playful. This was the kind of conversation that filled up almost hours of their time, fun banter and chatting about whatever came to their mind. The kind of mindless that only people who were so very close to endure, yet he had only been living with Kirishima for close to about a little of a month. Not even, it was just around the time Izuku and Katsuki had left for their honeymoon, which was in June. It was only July now. Just less than a month. And in that month, he had fallen for Kirirshima even more. Todoroki couldn’t remember when it started--he knew it was somewhere around before the bachelor’s party around the end of May, but it could’ve been just before that. In April, when he had run into Kirishima on the street and they hung out for the rest of the day. Somehow, that day had been the turning point for him, the point where he realized that Kirishima was not only a beautiful person on the outside, but the inside as well, beautiful, and compassionate, and many more things that had reeled Todoroki in, slow and steady. Kirishima was someone he could talk to easily, who he could feel comfortable to speak about anything with, and even if they argued, he’d always receive that welcoming, sharp toothed grin at the end. It baffled him, how someone could care about other people so much, but hey, he was working up to it. Just like these new emotions he felt for Kirishima.
The two had received their drinks, and began to talk about whatever, unbothered by the slow influx of people who came in and out of the shop. Neither of them cared. Todoroki’s mismatched eyes focused squarely on the grinning beauty before him, watching the way that Kirishima would always cover his mouth with his left hand when he giggled, how he always lifted his cup with his right hand, and hovered his left over it, in unconscious fear he would maybe drop it, how when Kirishima smiled at something cynical Todoroki said, he would always scrunch his nose and shake his head. It was those small, little things that made Todoroki fall for him more, harder, faster, and it was almost impossible to get rid of them. Time passed like a speeding car, going from 10am to 7pm in almost minutes. The rain had softened outside, and Kirirshima looked a little tired, the redhead having shifted closer to the window so he could lean against it, his eyes half lidded, and shimmering with contentment. Todoroki was speaking now, on about whatever he really wanted, while Kirishima gazed at him and nodded, his hands cupped around his empty mug of peppermint chocolate, two fingers inside the handle, one on top, one on the bottom, and his thumb carresting the opening, while his other hand simply rested against the smooth porcelain. It was different from Todoroki’s, who had three fingers in the handle, his idex on top, and his thumb resting against the opening. Todoroki had begun to lose track of what he was saying, swapping a few letters in his words, and Kirishima laughed, sleepy and sweet, and Todoroki blushed.
This had to be it, right? He watched Kirishima giggle, and close his eyes--he always laughed with his eyes closed--and lifted his left hand to lazily cover his mouth.
“Are you tired?” Kirishima asked.
“Um, no. Are you?”
“Just a little.”
“Kirirshima,” Todoroki began, and he set his cup down, letting go of it. This was it. “Um.”
“Hm?” Kirishima mused, and he stroked his thumb around the curve of the top of his cup.
Todoroki sighed. “I… have to tell you something.”
“What is it?”
“Um.”
Kirishima watched Todoroki’s expression, and he sat forward. “Hey, are you okay?”
He was so caring. So sweet. So gentle. How could a person be like that? So wonderful? Todoroki didn’t understand, but he loved it. “I…” he tried again, and clenched his fists, before bringing his gaze up to meet Kirishima’s, staring into those eyes he loved so so much. “I like you. A lot. I mean, like… I adore you--or… I’m in love with you. I have been, for a while, and I just have to tell you. I mean, I’m not really good with emotions or words or anything, but… I’m pretty sure. I like you.”
Kirishima stared at him quietly for a bit, his eyes wide with--well, Todoroki didn’t know. The multicolored male swallowed thickly, and his hands shook. He watched Kirishima blink a few times, and bring up his right hand this time, hovering it over his mouth.
“Ar--are you serious?” Kirishima asked softly, like he was worried, like he was going to laugh, or cry, or scream--his voice was thick with feeling.
Todoroki nodded, shaky. “I mean it, Eijirou,” he said softly.
Kirishima broke--but not into laughter like Todoroki expected, but instead into tears, and a shaky smile, as he let out what could have been a squeal behind his hand, and fanned his other hand at his face.
“Really! Oh my God , Todoroki, dude, I’ve liked you forever! I didn’t know how to say or it anything so I just kept quiet because I had no idea how you felt, and I was just way too scared to say anything and man, I didn’t know what to do, but I like you! I like you too! I like you a lot, I love you!” he cried, and he shot out of his booth, and Todoroki did the same, completely prepared for the strong hug that came his way, knocking the breath out of him, as he stumbled back with Kirishima in his arms.
He felt the same. Todoroki’s heart flew, and he smiled, wide and glad, like he had never smiled in his life, closing his eyes and pressing into the strawberry scented body that clung to his own, hugging him back, the sobs of job muffled into his shoulder matching the sweet laughing that escaped him. Kirirshima then pulled back quickly, and gazed up at him with happy, tearful eyes, and both of them knew exactly what was coming next, Kirishima’s arms throwing themselves around Todoroki’s neck as they met in a clumsy, sloppy, laughing-crying, love-filled kiss. Kirishima began to laugh too, and Todoroki pressed kiss after kiss around the other male’s face, until there weren’t any more tears, only red cheeks and pure joy. He stopped, soon after, and rested his forehead to Kirishima’s.
“I love you,” Todoroki whispered.
Kirishima grinned. “I love you too,” he said sweetly, and they hugged, close and tight. “Will you be my boyfriend?”
Todoroki laughed. “That’s my line.”
“Oh, shut up man!” Kirishima grinned, while Todoroki chuckled an: “Of course I will” into the second kiss he was pulled into.
This was perfect; it was everything he could have asked for and more, but this was only the beginning. The rest was yet to come.
