Pearl looked at the tall, old building in front of her. “Isn’t this place haunted?” she asked.
Maya laughed. “Yeah, of course it is! Spirits visit the Gwisin shrine all the time.”
Pearl edged away from the shrine’s steps.
“Come on, Pearly. Are you really scared of ghosts?”
“A bit,” admitted Pearl. “I know that you can channel Mia, but… other spirits might do bad things.”
Maya held Pearl’s hand. “Don’t be so silly. You’re brave, Pearly. And if any bad spirits try to get you, I’ll stop them!”
Pearl took a single, cautious step forward, staying beside her sister.
