Work Text:
jeongguk is kind of a nocturnal, or maybe it’s just his chronic insomnia trying to kick in. which isn’t nice, considering he has a lot of morning classes; but also some sort of nice, because he’s much more productive at night, when it’s silent and calming. he could submit most of his assignments and homeworks on time, or even early, because he worked when everyone else was asleep, but.
but, jeongguk had finished his last assignment. and he couldn’t sleep because it’s not even one a.m, and his mind is still racing for god knows what. it might be the caffeine he decided to chug this morning to help him be awake at class. it might be his insomnia. or maybe he’s just not tired yet is all.
most of the time, jeongguk would just lay on his bed and wait for sleep to come. or, he would sit in front of his desk and draw, just to take his mind off unnecessary things. there are different days, though. days where jeongguk feels a lot more awake, a lot more brave. days where jeongguk could not sleep at all, no matter how long he waits.
days like this.
jeongguk tries to count from one to ten, then backwards, until he messes up with numbers and finally decides to get up. he leaves the comfort and warmness of his duvet, slowly making ways towards his door. it’s dark, and cold, and jeongguk’s legs keeps on hitting random objects on the ground.
it’s okay, he thinks. it’s okay, because soon he will be surrounded by warmth once again. it’s okay, because he had done this before. (and before that, and before before that.)
the door knob is freezing under his palm, and jeongguk twists it open slowly. his head peeked in, shoulder subconsciously relaxes once he notices his roommate is still deep in his sleep. jeongguk closes the door behind him, quickly tiptoeing towards the bed.
the bed creaked faintly under his weight, and jeongguk internally curses as yoongi stirs. a beat, two beats. and then, jeongguk could see yoongi’s dark orbs staring droopily at him.
“guk-ah?”
“why are you such a light sleeper,” whines jeongguk, before he fully drops his weight into the bed. it creaks once more. “didn’t mean to wake you up, hyung.”
yoongi smiles. he scoots a little closer to the wall, giving more room for jeongguk. “s’fine. come here.”
jeongguk lays. inhales the smell of coffee and pinecones and yoongi on the pillow, sighs in content. it feels fluffy under his head, and he already started to feel sleepy. his eyes are still wide open, though, and he realizes that yoongi is still looking at him, rather expectantly. one of his arms is hovering at the air, just above jeongguk’s body.
“cuddles?” asks yoongi.
jeongguk nods. yoongi grins, all gummy and sweet, before he engulfs jeongguk in a tight hug. jeongguk pulls the duvet on them a second later, and he feels: warm, warm, warm. he closes his eyes.
“hyung,” whispers jeongguk. he moves closer to yoongi, just so he could plant one of his cheek on the older’s chest. the rhythmical sound of yoongi’s heartbeat brings a small smile onto his lips.
yoongi hums.
“thank you.”
jeongguk could feel the arm around him tightens. there’s a smell of mint when yoongi exhales. “don’t worry about it, guk-ah. now, sleep.”
maybe it’s not all about his chronic insomnia. or about the coffee he drinks every morning. maybe, it’s just about yoongi. and his cuddles, and his everything. maybe jeongguk just couldn’t sleep alone.
when he finally falls asleep, he dreams of a quick peck on the forehead, and of someone running their fingers on his hair. it might be the caffeine.
