A scream. That’s what welcomed Shimazaki when he suddenly teleported to Teru’s apartment for the nth time this week without warning.
“Calm down, it’s me. I thought you’d be used to me teleporting here already.”
Teru was still catching his breath from the scare. This time Shimazaki teleported too close to him, resulting in a jump and all the school paper he was holding at the moment went to the floor.
“And I thought I asked you to call me first, at least. Geez.” Teruki made a sour face — what a mess his room was.
“You sound very stressed. Something happened?”
“Yeah, something happened,” Teru continued. Shimazaki braced himself. “Got the lowest grades of my life. I’ve been… training too much lately instead of studying and now I need to take a make-up test. I hope the school haven’t contacted my parents…”
Shimazaki sighed. Teruki was just a boy after all, with school and other mundane problems.
“I was trying to study right now but I can’t concentrate. Kageyama-kun was right, psychic powers can’t get you better grades, right?” he said, looking up at Shimazaki and giving him a faint smile.
“How about a break?” He put his hands in his pockets.
“A break?” Teru sounded confused at the sudden offer.
“Yes. I know something that’ll help you relax a bit. Well, at least it works with me.”
Teru couldn’t even begin to imagine something that could help of all people Shimazaki to relax.
At this point, Teru was more curious than anything. “Sounds like a plan. What do you need me to do?”
“Hmm, it’s not exactly something to do, but somewhere I want to take you.”
“Oh.”
“Close your eyes, It’s a surprise.”
Teruki did as he was told. Suddenly Shimazaki grabbed Teru’s waist and teletransported them to somewhere.
---
“We’re here.”
“Can I open my eyes now?”
“Not yet. Try guessing where you are first.”
Argh, how the hell am I supposed to guess?! Teru thought. Then a distinct smell invaded his nose. It was… sweet. Not something he smells everyday but not unfamiliar either.
“...flowers?” That’s all Teru said. It was a quiet place, with birds chirping so it couldn’t be a flower shop. Then he felt the wind on his skin.
“We’re in a flower field, aren’t we?”
“Bingo.” Shimazaki smiled. “You can open your eyes now, you guessed way faster than I was expecting.”
When Teru opened his eyes, a big field of bright red flowers greeted him. He didn’t recognize what flowers those were.
“Red Camellias.” It was like Shimazaki was reading Teruki’s mind at this point. “Minegishi told me about this place back when we worked for Claw, he grew up in this town.”
The scenery was breathtaking. Was it the countryside? How far he was from his apartment? He couldn’t focus on anything right now, only on the flowers in front of him. And Shimazaki was right… it was relaxing. He felt all the stress leaving his body as the smell of the Camellias entered his nose.
“You know,” Shimazaki continued, “for times like this I wouldn’t mind trading my powers for a pair of working eyes.” Teru rapidly turned to him, not believing what he was hearing even for a split of second.
“Because I really wanted to see the face you made when you realized where you are.”
Ouch. Teru felt an arrow pierce his heart. Shimazaki’s smile wasn’t helping anything, but he could only smile back.
---
Several minutes had passed yet they did not exchange a word, opting to meditate in front of the flower field instead.
“I think it’s better if we head back. I still have things to do.” said Teru, cutting the silence.
“Okay”.
Back at his apartment, Teru still couldn't shake off the heart-breaking sensation he felt when Shimazaki had said he’d trade his powers for eyesight. He wanted to talk more about it but… he had things to do. At least now, Teru was confident he would ace his make-up test.
