Work Text:
In retrospect, on the list of normal things that he should’ve expected to happen in his lifetime, Fuyumi dating was high up there, but Shouto never considered it. He didn’t know why it simply never occurred to him that she would get a boyfriend or girlfriend – maybe his brain didn’t want to think about his sister dating – but he probably should’ve figured out how to react to the news.
Instead, he was caught off guard when he heard their mother pleasantly ask, “So...how are things with your boyfriend?”
His head shot up and he opened his mouth to defend himself (he and Deku weren’t dating, they were just friends, honestly, nothing was going on) when he realized their mom wasn’t looking at him. She was looking at Fuyumi. Oh. She was asking Fuyumi how things were with her boyfriend, not him, because he definitely didn’t have one.
Wait a minute.
“You have a boyfriend?” Shouto blurted.
A blush bloomed across Fuyumi’s face as red as the streaks in her hair. “Mom, I told you: he’s not my boyfriend. That would be way too weird!”
Their mom frowned. “But you’ve gone out for dinner a few times, haven’t you?”
“Yes, but–”
“And didn’t you go to the movies last week?”
“I paid for my ticket–”
“And he sent flowers to your work to apologize after having to cancel plans at the last second.”
“Okay, okay!” Fuyumi pressed a hand to her forehead and let out a sigh. “I mean, we’re friends, but I guess, maybe…” She threw her hand in the air. “I don’t know! We haven’t discussed it. I still think it’s kind of weird. It’s probably a bad idea. Yeah, it’s a bad idea.”
Shouto gawked at his sister. “You have a boyfriend ?” She pressed her lips together and gave him a look that said she did not want to talk about it. Well, tough luck, because he’d never once considered what he would do if his only sister was dating and now he had to find out right now on the spot. “What’s his name? What does he do for a living? Have I met him before? Have you talked about him before? Does Natsuo know?” A horrible thought crossed his mind. “Does Dad know?”
Fuyumi rounded on him so quickly that he actually reared back. “No! And don’t you dare say a word to either of them!”
“How long has this been going on?” Shouto questioned. He didn’t know whether to be flabbergasted, mad, or just plain confused about this. He didn’t know how to feel at all. His sister had been maybe sort of secretly dating someone behind their backs. He wasn’t sure whether to demand more information or stop asking questions entirely.
“We’re not dating, so nothing has been going on.”
“Let me rephrase it,” Shouto said. “How long have you been hanging out with him?”
Biting her lip, Fuyumi thought it over and then shrugged. “Just like four months.” She shook her head. “It doesn’t matter because we’re friends. I’m allowed to have friends.”
“Yeah, but…” Shouto furrowed his brow. “Boy...friend?”
“I can have male friends too!”
Shouto frowned. She could – he had plenty of girl friends – but this sounded different. Going to the movies, getting dinner, sending flowers - that sounded like she was being courted. He wasn’t sure what to think about that. On the one hand, it was very polite and considerate, but on the other hand, this was all very hush-hush so it also sounded very shady. He couldn’t trust a shady guy to be around his sister. He might have been the youngest, but it was his duty as her brother – no, as a future hero – to protect her.
“How did you meet him?”
Fuyumi looked away and muttered something under her breath that he couldn’t understand.
Shouto leaned forward. “What was that?”
The answer spilled out of her in a rush, making it sound like one word, “IsaidImethimthroughdad’swork.”
“You what?” Shouto jumped to his feet, very much alarmed. If she met someone through their dad’s job, that could only mean one of two things. Whoever this so-called Not Boyfriend was, he was either a cop or a hero, and Shouto didn’t know how to feel about the latter. She’d never expressed interest in heroes before, but then again, he’d never seen her express interest in anyone. “Alright, who is he? What’s his name?”
Fuyumi rubbed her arms uncomfortably. “Keigo.”
Shouto narrowed his eyes. “What’s his hero name?”
“What makes you think he’s a hero?” Fuyumi demanded, more defensive than ever before.
“Because you wouldn’t have hid it from me for so long if he wasn’t,” Shouto shot back. She was hiding something. He could sense it. Had this guy been anything else, she wouldn’t have gone to such great lengths to keep their interactions hidden.
“Maybe I didn’t want you being nosy and in my business.”
“Fuyumi.”
“Oh fine!” Fuyumi threw her hands up again and covered her face with them. “It’s Hawks.”
Shouto stared at his sister in dead silence with the blankest expression on his face. After a solid two minutes of not saying a word or even blinking, he sat back down in the chair and turned to face his mother. Well. Out of all the heroes he knew their dad worked with, the last person he had suspected to be running around with Endeavor’s daughter behind his back was the Number Two Hero, one of his closest collaborators these days.
Damn. Shouto didn’t feel so bad about having a crush on All Might’s protege now. Fuyumi was definitely in more hot water than him.
*
“Yeah, they’re little hellions sometimes, but I love them, even if they try to attack each other with their newly manifested quirks. I swear, kids were not meant to have quirks at such a young age.” Laughter rang from the other room where Fuyumi was talking to someone. “I’m sure you were! I bet you flew around to places so your teachers and parents couldn’t get you after you did something bad. Oh, of course, you would never do anything bad. You’re a hero.”
Natsuo raised an eyebrow at the conversation his sister was having. He hadn’t meant to eavesdrop on her, but he arrived early for their lunch. He and Fuyumi tried to do something every Sunday, even if it was just visiting their mom. He was kind of ashamed at how he’d fallen away from her after he left for college – it was so easy to get wrapped up in school and not being anywhere near that house – but he wanted to make it up to her now that Shouto and their mom were back in their lives. He wanted to be a family, which meant doing regular family things.
Still, as far as he could remember, he’d never heard such a playful tone from his sister. The closest he could picture it was when she would tease Touya over something, but this was different. If Natsuo had to guess what it sounded like, it was almost like she was...flirting.
Something akin to a rock dropped into the pit of his stomach. Had he accidentally overheard his big sister flirting on the phone with someone? And that someone was a hero? She was talking to a pro hero on the phone and flirting with them? He’d never even known her to have a crush before, although she had probably nursed one or two growing up. Kids did that, even them. He never asked about her dating life because, well, she was his sister, and also she never seemed to have time for it. Either she was taking care of Shouto and then she had her job and...
Holy shit. Was his sister dating someone behind their backs?
“Hey!” Natsuo exclaimed as he burst into the room. “Who are you talking to?”
Fuyumi shrieked and nearly dropped her phone. It slipped from her grip, but she managed to awkwardly catch it before it could hit the ground. Natsuo winced. Maybe he should’ve been a little more subtle, but he’d stopped thinking the moment he realized what he thought was going on.
“Oh my god!” Fuyumi put her hand and phone to her chest. “What are you doing here?”
Natsuo furrowed his brow. “Um, to have lunch like we planned?”
“What–?” Fuyumi glanced at her phone again. “Oh, I didn’t realize the time. Sorry.” Her cheeks were bright red. She looked at him nervously and then angled her body away from him so he couldn’t see her face. Oh, yeah, she was definitely hiding something, but she had never been good at that. Out of all of them, she was entirely open with her feelings. “Sorry– No, no, I’m fine. No need to rush over. It’s just my brother, Natsuo. He startled me. I appreciate it though. Yes, I will.” He saw the corner of her lips tilt up into a smile, try as she might hide it. “Sure, if you’ve got time to spare. Okay, be safe. Goodbye.”
After ending the call, Fuyumi slowly turned around to face him as she slid her phone into her pocket. Her cheeks were still flushed and she wore a nervous smile, but she didn’t say anything. He folded his arms across his chest and narrowed his eyes. With his height and size, he knew he cut an intimidating figure when he wanted to. He’d inherited their father’s build, after all. Unfortunately for him, she’d been living with their father for a lot longer, and she had really grown quite brave in the past few years.
“You ready to go?” Fuyumi asked brightly.
“Uh no. Not until you tell me what that was all about.”
The smile dropped from Fuyumi’s face. “Just talking to a friend.”
“A friend?” Natsuo pointed a finger at her. “You were flirting!”
“I was not!” Fuyumi denied, waving her hands frantically in front of her. “I was just, um, teasing!”
“Fuyumi, that’s flirting ,” Natsuo said. Well, there were lots of forms of flirting and teasing wasn’t always one of them, but he could tell the difference. It was one of his favorite tactics as well. He wouldn’t say that he was a player or anything, but he did kind of prefer flirting and casual dating compared to anything serious. He was young and in college. He didn’t need to settle down right now. “And I’m pretty sure I heard something about them being a hero? Are you really dating a pro hero ?”
“Can we not talk about it?”
“No, I think we should.”
A look of consternation crossed Fuyumi’s face as she pressed her lips together and glowered at him behind her glasses. He forgot that she could cut an intimidating figure too when she tried. It must’ve been a family thing. Still, she was his sister and that overrode anything else he might’ve felt.
Natsuo sighed and unfolded his arms. “C’mon, Fuyumi, just tell me, please? I don’t wanna keep secrets anymore. It’s exhausting.”
Fuyumi practically pouted. “That’s a low blow.”
“I will use everything in my arsenal.” Natsuo smiled, and she slowly did in return. There – that was the spirit. He didn’t want them to keep things from each other anymore. A large part of their lives had been based on their ability to keep their mouths shut – there were still a lot of things that they just never talked about or brought up ever again – but he wanted them to be open and honest about their lives now. “We don’t have to talk about it here. We can do it over lunch. I’ll even tell you about my last date!”
Sighing to herself in defeat, Fuyumi picked up her purse from the couch and walked out of the living room with him bouncing cheerfully at her side. “I’m going to regret this, aren’t I?”
“Why would you think that?”
“Because we’ve never talked about our dating lives before. It’ll be weird.”
Natsuo winked. “Ah, so you admit it? You are dating someone!”
Fuyumi didn’t respond, but she didn’t have to in order to give him an answer. She was dating someone, whether she wanted to admit it or not. Dating was kind of weird at times. Maybe they weren’t official and that was why she didn’t want to talk about it. People got paranoid about referring to someone as their boyfriend or girlfriend if it wasn’t set in stone or talked about. No one wanted to find out they were more involved in a relationship than the other person.
Still, if someone was trying to date his sister, they better not be acting shady about it. Natsuo was always upfront about how he didn’t want to date seriously and was honest about how he felt even if he didn’t explain the why so well. (Try telling your date that you’re unsure about marriage because your dad bought your mom’s family off for a quirk marriage, no thank you.) Still, he knew it was kind of a dick move at times. He didn’t want Fuyumi to date someone like that. She deserved to be treated honestly, fairly, and kindly. He’d need to make sure this person wasn’t trying to pull a fast one on her or else.
That was what brothers were for, right?

Dabi wasn’t the type of person to sneak around. One) his appearance kind of gave him away, and two) he no longer felt the desire for it, not after years of tiptoeing around his childhood home. Still, being known as a notorious villain by the media kind of forced him back into the habit, especially when he was the contact for the League’s feathery hero agent. Hawks might have officially been a part of their team now, but Dabi knew better than to trust him. Hell, he barely trusted the other League members and he’d been with them for over a year now.
It would’ve been easier to walk around in public if he didn’t stand out so painfully. He didn’t mind how his scars looked, even if they hurt whenever he used his quirk, but he had to admit that he missed the days when he could walk into a store and get a drink with only a few glances. His scars had been ugly and stood out, but he hadn’t been known as a villain so people looked away from him after a moment. Toga and even Compress could still go out in broad daylight, but he and Spinner had the misfortune of being pretty damn recognizable.
Night was one of the few times he could get out and stretch his legs. He needed that. Shigaraki might get onto him about being careful, but much like having to use his quirk once in a while to make sure he didn’t burn up from the inside out, he needed to get away from everyone to clear his head. Sometimes, he got so lost in all the rage built up inside him that he couldn’t see straight. If he was going to accomplish any of his goals, he needed his head on straight.
With one of those fashionable medical masks on and a hood over his head from a jacket, Dabi could blend in pretty well at night. It was snowing, the flakes reflecting off the lights from stores and street lamps, casting such a peaceful glow over the street. It made Dabi sick to his stomach, but he’d get over it.
All these people walking around – happy families with their children running around and laughing, couples holding hands and cuddling, people chatting or texting on their phones – they had no idea about shit. It would take little more than a snap of his fingers to incinerate them all, but he didn’t pull his hands out of his pockets. He didn’t really feel like being violent, even if the thought was there. Violence was always there resting in the back of his mind, boiling under his skin, but he usually tried to keep it contained unless necessary. The blowback of letting it take control could really fuck him up.
Just when he was thinking about how hungry he was, a familiar voice caught his attention, but what really stood out was that he was hearing the voice here. Dabi stopped walking and swung his head around in an attempt to find the source, his heart thundering in his chest. This could be the perfect opportunity to watch him and see how he acted while not faced with a villain, but it could also be some sort of trap.
Whatever the case, Dabi only had one question: What the hell was Hawks doing here?
The moment his eyes finally landed on the so-called Number Two Hero, Dabi’s heart stopped cold. With his crimson wings, Hawks would stand out no matter what he was wearing. He wasn’t in his hero costume right now – that outfit had to have cost a pretty penny – so he must have been off-duty at the moment. He could have potentially been following Dabi or trying to lure him into some sort of trap (what was trust between villains anyway?), but considering that Hawks wasn’t alone…
Dabi narrowed his eyes. Scratch one question. He had two of them.
What the flying fuck was Hawks doing with Todoroki Fuyumi ?
Everything came crashing down on him in a moment. Dabi’s mind jumped from being suspicious about Hawks to full-blown panic. In a mere second, he no longer felt like Dabi anymore. He was back to being Todoroki Touya, a scared kid with a too powerful quirk not meant for his body and a family that either didn’t give a shit about him or were too scared of their father to do shit to help him.
It wasn’t Fuyumi’s fault. He had been angry with her for a while, even when he was still at home, but he was old enough now to know that she had just been a scared kid too. He hadn’t seen her in a while – not since he checked in on her one time not long after the whole QLA shit blew over – but it didn’t matter. It could’ve been years, and he still would’ve been able to recognize his twin sister. Her white hair with red streaks stood out to him just as much as his scars. He could remember her voice clear as day, her laugh, her nervous smile.
All of which he saw now as she walked down the street with Hawks.
Did he know? Was that why he was talking with her? To get info on him? The truth about who he was? Had he been compromised?
Dabi resisted the urge to turn on his heels and run, to burn everything to the ground, to throw up – and then all of that panic was flushed right out of him when he saw Hawks reach up to brush a bit of snow off Fuyumi’s hair.
The gesture was so soft and gentle that it confused him for a moment. For however much of a showboat he was as a hero, Hawks had always been cold and calculated with him. There was always that hard edge to him that spoke of danger as much as it did efficiency. This was so different. It wasn’t a threat or a measured move or anything. It was familiar. It was intimate.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Were they out on a date? Was Hawks dating Fuyumi? His sister? His twin sister? Had he started out trying to get more information on him when Endeavor proved useless, only to fall for her? Or maybe it was also some sort of ruse? Fuyumi had been kind and sweet from the very beginning. Because of her ice quirk, their father hadn’t burned that out of her like he had with Touya. She was a good person when Dabi felt no desire to be one anymore.
Or maybe, just maybe, it had absolutely nothing to do with him or Endeavor and they’d crossed paths and one thing led to another and…
He should’ve let it go – he really should have, considering he was trying to stay under the radar – but Dabi was so livid that he couldn’t even think straight. What the fuck was this asshole doing being a traitor to hero society and dating the daughter of the Number One Bastard? He was just going to break her heart. Fuyumi didn’t deserve that.
Fuck this noise. Fuck it. Dabi jerked his phone out of his pocket, pulled up Hawks’ contact info, and typed out a text so hard that it was shocking his screen didn’t crack. He sent it without even thinking of the consequences ( We need to meet NOW ) and then waited for the fallout with a narrowed glare.
A few seconds later, Hawks paused to fish his phone out of his pocket and check the text. He didn’t even blink or look concerned, like the text was absolutely nothing to him. Dabi sneered. Oh, he was good. What an actor. Fuyumi asked a question that Dabi missed because of a truck driving by, but he watched as Hawks responded lightly. She frowned but nodded her head in understanding. He must’ve said something about work because Fuyumi used to always wear that sad/anxious look on her face when their dad had to rush away for work. It was a convenient lie with no harm done.
Dabi would show him no harm done. Stupid fucker was going to try dating his sister when he was in a super precarious, dangerous position between two factions? Sure, Hawks had to keep up appearances and keep things normal so no one would get any ideas, but this was a little much. He could put Fuyumi in danger. Okay, so him being a villain trying to murder their father and occasionally attacking their little brother’s friend group also did that, but he kept his distance from her for more than just his own good.
As if his evening had not already been shot to absolute hell, Dabi had to watch with his own two goddamn eyes as Hawks kissed Fuyumi on the cheek. It took every ounce of willpower and strength that Dabi had not to explode on the spot. He could feel smoke seeping from his hands, and he had to shove them into his pocket and storm off in the opposite direction of Hawks before he could be spotted.
What the fuck? What the actual fuck? What was he thinking? Either one of them? Dabi could barely see straight as he made his way to their usual meet-up spot at the port. He was fucking going to lose it. He was going to kill Hawks with his bare hands. Fuck whatever they had set up and agreed to or whatever. Shigaraki could get pissed at him, but Dabi didn’t give a shit.
He had no right…absolutely no goddamn right… Fuyumi was his sister. She was supposed to be safe. Dabi wouldn’t even dare go near her even if it meant getting their father. Shouto was different. He could take care of himself, so Dabi didn’t mind him being in the crossfire once in a while. The kid was fine. Fuyumi had never received the training they had though, and she was good. She was good . If Hawks was mixed up with them, fine, that was his goals to work with the League and help them, but that bastard did not need to bring her into it too.
Unless she was sympathetic towards villains… No, no, she wasn’t. That was stupid. Dabi shook his head at himself. As much as he could hope for something like that – as much as he was forced to admit that some days he wished Fuyumi and Natsuo could be on his side – he knew it would never happen. This was his battle alone. It always had been. He could handle that.
What he could not handle was his sister dating a goddamn fucking pro hero and a villain.
By the time Dabi arrived to their meeting spot, Hawks was already there, still in his casual clothes, looking for all the world like he hadn’t just been on a date with the Number One Hero’s daughter. He didn’t look worried in the slightest, not even when they met eyes and he saw the fire in Dabi’s. He probably had some sharp ass feather up his sleeve, but Dabi didn’t worry about it.
“You texted me before you even got here?” Hawks greeted, sounding utterly unimpressed. “It must be important then.”
“Yeah, it’s fucking important,” Dabi growled.
Hawks rolled his eyes. “What’s the deal then? I was in the middle of something.”
“I know,” Dabi snapped. “I saw you.”
The change in Hawks was so quick that it would’ve given another person whiplash – his body went tense in preparation and his eyes narrowed and turned cold – and any casualness he’d been displaying with Fuyumi was gone. “What does that mean?”
Dabi snatched Hawks by the throat and slammed him into the wall, only to find a sharp feather pressed against his own throat in return. He resisted the urge to activate his quirk and see how quickly he could roast the hero and yelled, “Don’t play fucking stupid with me! I saw you with her!”
Recognition lit in Hawks’ eyes. And was that...fear? No, it couldn’t be. Hawks was about as cold as they came. That shiny personality he displayed on television for the public to see was as fake as they came, which was why Dabi kept replaying the scene on the street with Fuyumi over and over again. It had looked – no, it felt – genuine. Honest. He didn’t know whether it would have been better if it had been real or fake. Either way, it would only end poorly for her.
“She’s a civilian,” Hawks said in a hard tone. “Leave her out of our business.”
“I know that, you dipshit!” Dabi wanted to squeeze his throat until his head popped off, but the feather against his neck was sharp. It was almost cutting into his skin. “You’re the one endangering her! We don’t have time for shit like that – not us!”
Hawks tilted his head even with Dabi’s hand wrapped around his throat. “Careful, Dabi, that almost sounds like you’re considering someone else before yourself.”
Dabi sneered in response, but he couldn’t get a word out of his mouth. There was nothing he could say. Once upon a time, maybe, but those days were over. Weren’t they? But then why was he so worked up about this? Would he have cared had it been anyone else? Out of everyone in the world, why did it have to be her? Why did it have to be the one person who he still occasionally thought about from his past? Hell, it could’ve been Natsuo, and he might’ve been irritated, but this…
“Why do you care what happens to a civilian?” Hawks asked curiously.
“She’s not just a civilian! She’s my sister, you bird-brained dumbass!”
Hawks eyebrows shot up. Dabi snapped his mouth shut so hard that his teeth clattered and let go of him, staggering back and running a hand over his face. Fuck. What the fuck? He should’ve realized that Hawks didn’t know shit the moment he referred to her as a civilian. She was, but if he knew Dabi’s identity, he would’ve said something else. He hadn’t even meant to say all of that, but the smile he’d seen on her face had been so soft and warm. He’d never seen her smile that before. She couldn’t.
All of those old brotherly feelings he’d thought he squashed and burned away came rushing back to him, like they’d just been lying in wait to pounce on him the moment something like this happened. He should have expected this – he couldn’t avoid her forever if he was trying to kill their dad – but he hadn’t thought it would come out like this. He thought it would be some grand reveal, an epic moment, a shocking revival.
Not because he flew off the handle to threaten his sister’s boyfriend.
“You’re...Touya?” Hawks finally managed. He sounded surprised and then...not at the same time. Of course he wasn’t completely caught off guard by the revelation. He was smart. There was a reason he had been able to make it to the top at such a young age without alerting anyone to his real beliefs. Dabi didn’t respond. He hadn’t gone by that name in years. “She’s talked about you a few times. Not much – there isn’t a lot to say, I guess – but I didn’t expect…”
“Forget it,” Dabi snarled.
Hawks scoffed. “Yeah, I don’t think so.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Dabi ground out. “That person is dead and gone.”
“Pretty sure he’s standing right in front of me freaking out over his sister.” Hawks arched an eyebrow as if tempting Dabi to prove him wrong. He couldn’t – because that was exactly what he’d done. He saw Fuyumi with Hawks and lost his veritable shit. Years of hiding who he was and all it took was a sudden bout of overprotectiveness to ruin it. Fucking hell. Some villain he was. A smile slid onto Hawks’ face, which only made Dabi want to punch it more. “Gee, I didn’t know you were the protective brother type, but it makes sense from what she said about you.”
Dabi turned away from him. Shouldn’t turn his back on this guy, but he didn’t want to face him either, not when they were talking about his family. “Stop. That shit doesn’t matter. I don’t want to hear it.”
“She thinks you’re dead.” Hawks’ voice was careful. Dabi hated that. Hawks had never sounded like that with him before - like he pitied him. It was disgusting. “She didn’t say it, but from the lack of talking about you, like you’re gone and it’s kinder to pretend you don’t exist… It’s easy to pick up on.”
Scowling at him, Dabi shot back, “Yeah, and she thinks you’re a hero, so it looks like we’re both liars.”
Hawks eyed him for a moment and then put his sharp feather into his jacket. Had he had it on him the entire time? Even when he was with Fuyumi? Just in case of an attack. He might’ve been in civilian clothes, but he wouldn’t want to be vulnerable. Someone in his position had to be ready for shit to go south at any moment. That was partly why Dabi hated him being around Fuyumi so much. What if she got stuck in the crosshairs of their shit? It would eat away at him worse than his fire.
“This could change things. You’re the Number One Hero’s son–”
“Don’t you fucking say that,” Dabi growled.
“Fine. We’ll pretend like that hot topic doesn’t exist.” Hawks rolled his eyes. “But you’re really going to do that to her? I know you hate Endeavor with a fiery passion, but that attack on him devastated and scared the hell out of her. If you really kill him, what do you think will happen to her?”
Dabi lashed out with a wave of fire that Hawks easily dodged. “Shut the fuck up! Stop talking about her like you know her so well! It’s weird.”
He wanted to ask how long Hawks had been snooping around his sister but thought he might throw up if he did. It was weirder than weird. He’d never considered Fuyumi dating. She hadn’t the time in high school since there was school and taking care of Shouto after their mom was sent away. Then he ran away from home, so she was out of his life and mind. He didn’t have to think about her. They lived in two separate worlds. They’d continued to do that – and yet here Hawks was, bridging the gap, bringing those worlds together.
It was...awkward. Oh, fuck, Hawks had kissed her on the cheek. Dabi was gonna be sick.
“Stay away from her,” he said.
“Or what?” Hawks folded his arms across his chest. “You gonna beat me up? We’re not in middle school, Dabi. We’re grown adults.”
“You’re gonna hurt her. That’s the only way this is gonna end. Because she either finds out the truth about you – or you’re lying to me and we kill you.” Dabi fixed a cold glare on the other man, the coldest he could muster. He hated it when he got that look in his eyes. It made him think of his father. He used to put a look like that on his face whenever Natsuo was acting up and wouldn’t listen to Fuyumi – or if boys were teasing her about something and making her uncomfortable. “Either way, you’re lying to one of us. And if you continue with her, hell, I might as well kill you now.”
Hawks sighed. “You really do care about her, huh?”
“This ain’t about her.”
It was. As much as he would loathe the idea of Hawks lying to him, the thought of him lying to Fuyumi somehow pissed him off even more. Dabi knew he wasn’t a good person – he was a piece of shit on his good days – but Fuyumi deserved better than that. She’d done nothing wrong. She had stayed and taken care of Natsuo and Shouto while he left her alone. The least he could do was keep her from getting her heart broken too much.
“Isn’t it?” Hawks countered.
“No, this is about your commitment to the League, so I’d think it over carefully,” Dabi told him. It was that too. It was a lot of things. He snorted. “Besides, I’m almost positive Endeavor doesn’t know either. You wouldn’t want to anger your biggest ally in the hero world, would you?”
He almost kind of wished Endeavor could find out. At least then he’d do half the work for him. Then again, maybe it would be better if he didn’t. If that bastard tried to control Fuyumi’s life any more than he already had…
Fuck. He’d really picked an inconvenient as hell time to remember that he was a big brother. Fucking Hawks. Couldn’t he have been interested in anyone else? Why did it have to be her? This was so dumb.
