You Are My Superhero

Summary:

Senior year is almost over and everything seems to finally be falling into place for Sam.

Work Text:

Sam swiftly climbed up the steps and took a seat half way up the bleachers. He had a good view of the field so he could watch the Cheerios at practice. Both Blaine and Brittany waved and Sam waved back a soft smile on his face. He had a wait of about 45 minutes until practice was over and he could get a ride home. Since it was Friday, he ignored his school books and pulled the drawing pad out of his backpack. He also fished out a lunch bag and some charcoal pencils.

Once Sam was completely settled, he glanced back at the field where the Cheerios were busy with a fairly complex routine. He had a good view and could see the concentration and sweat on their faces. Sam grabbed the brown lunch bag and pulled out an apple taking a couple of big bites before setting it aside. He then turned to a blank page in his pad and began to draw.

Sam had decided to draw a superhero and started with the shadowed, mysterious face and dark mask. He drew sharp lines and precise angles. According to Blaine, Sam had become quite good at sketching figures and faces; Sam truly enjoyed bringing a picture to life. He knew he wanted his sketches, his artwork to somehow be part of his future.

It was early May and school was slowly winding down. It was their senior year and both Sam and Blaine got into good colleges in New York. Brittany was heading to MIT and Tina was going to UCLA. Sam would miss his friends and adopted family but he was excited about being in New York and living with Blaine. He knew the big city would be very different than Lima, Ohio but Sam was ready for a change. He knew there was no challenge, no obstacle he couldn't face with Blaine by his side.

Sam finished sketching the intense, darkened eyes, clenched jaw and fearless look on his superhero's face. He then started working on the slicked back black hair.

Blaine got into the Musical Theatre program at NYU and Sam just knew he was going to be big a Broadway star someday. Blaine was brimming with talent and appeal, and he deserved this opportunity more than anyone Sam knew including Rachel and Kurt. Plus, Blaine was super smart, down to earth, kind, sweet and quite generous. Sam knew he was quite lucky to have such great best friend.

Sam started the outline of the long, billowing cape as it flew behind the figure like a protective shield.

Sam's mind drifted to Nationals which was in early June. Nationals was being held in Los Angeles, California this year, Sam had never traveled to the West Coast. The Glee Club was practicing overtime to ensure a good showing this year; Blaine and Sam were hoping for another first place win. Also coming up soon was Prom which was just a few weeks away. Sam already had his hot date secured and looked forward to helping with the Prom decorations at the insistence of their Student Body President.

Sam looked up and saw Blaine on the bottom of a human pyramid, holding up two female cheerleaders. He was steady and quite strong, he had more strength in his compact body than most people realized. He could also throw a mean right hook when needed but his goal was to stop his opponent and not really harm them.

Sam chuckled as he drew strong powerful arms.

The Glee Club would perform at Prom and Sam was hoping he could sing a solo. He had a song he really wanted to sing for his date; he knew he had finally found his special someone and he was ready to tell the whole world. Sam had realized that what he was feeling was something more real than he had ever felt before. It was much stronger and quite different than what he felt for Quinn, or Brittany, or Mercedes, or anyone. It felt intense, significant and heavy but at the same time light, magical and free.

Sam could feel a slight breeze in his hair and he heard the team chanting a cheer in the background but he just leaned in closer as he focused on his drawing. Sam was working on the lean, muscular body of his superhero. He was sketching out the figure running, his thighs firm and powerful with his arms partially raised like he was about ready to lift off into flight. The hero was on top of a tall building, in the dead of night. He appeared determined, fearless but also quite elegant and graceful.

After several minutes, Sam looked up to see the Cheerios ending practice, Sue was giving some last minute instructions loudly through her bull horn. With that, they all headed to the locker rooms to get cleaned up. Blaine held up both hands looking toward Sam, Sam knew he was saying he would be done in about 10 minutes. In that time, Blaine would take a quick shower and change into his regular clothes.

Sam continued to draw as he added the detail work of the breastplate his superhero wore, it was quite ornate. The breastplate gave the figure the appearance of broad shoulders and inner strength, it was the solid core for his drawing and tied everything together. It was accentuated by the flowing cape in the background.

As Sam concentrated on completing the last bit of the detail, he felt someone sit down beside him. "Hey" Blaine said, as he knocked shoulders with Sam and grabbed the half eaten apple. "You looked busy, almost like you were lost in another world. What are you working on?", Blaine asked as he took a bite.

Sam grinned, "Not much, just a drawing of my favorite superhero." "Let me see," Blaine reached out for the drawing pad. "Not so fast B", Sam said as he held the picture close to his chest.

"What?", Blaine chuckled, "I've seen your drawings of Captain America before. They're amazing!" Sam smiled coyly and said, "It's not of Captain America".

Blaine stop chewing for a moment. "I know you Samuel Evans. Captain America is most certainly your favorite superhero! There is no way that could have changed in one afternoon", Blaine teased taking another large bite of the apple. "Actually, over the past couple of months, I developed a passion for a new superhero. One who is brave, true, honest, kind-hearted, strong, and well - extremely attractive", Sam responded wiggling his eyebrows.

"Well, that sounds like Captain America to me but okay, let me see the drawing? I want to see who could unseat someone you have liked, no worshipped since you were a little boy", Blaine smirked.

Sam was hesitant but then he slowly revealed his drawing and as he did so, he noted "I can relate to this one more and this hero has a secret power". Blaine's mouth dropped open, "Sammy.... That's Nightbird!". Sam's voice came out almost in a shy whisper, "I know".

Blaine sat silent, next to Sam staring at the drawing. At that moment, everything around them faded away and nothing else mattered. There was only Blaine and Sam on the football field, in the stands, sitting close, knees knocking together, shoulders aligned.

"Blaine, you are my favorite superhero", Sam murmured as he looked over at Blaine, his eyes wide and bright. Blaine reached out like he was going to touch the drawing but he quickly pulled back not wanting to smug any of Sam's work, "It's beautiful", he breathed. Blaine looked up and locked eyes with Sam.

"But what is my secret power?", Blaine asked with a curious head tilt not looking away from Sam. Sam swallowed and was silent for a couple of seconds, "You are very captivating and cunning. You made me, a simple high school student, fall hopelessly and completely in love with you... (Blaine's eyes widened). I love you Blaine Anderson. You are always there for me, you are my best friend, my crime fighting partner, my prom date, my inspiration, my one and only and my hero."

Blaine face filled with emotion as he blinked back tears; a huge smile spreading across his face. He took Sam's free hand and held it in his own. "I love you too Sammy. And for the record, you are not simple, you are brilliant. And, you are my favorite superhero, my biggest fan, my love, my soul mate, my everything." Sam leaned over and looked at Blaine with loving eyes and then gave him a gentle, sweet kiss. They were both all smiles as the kiss ended.

"Let's get out of here", Blaine suggested as he pulled Sam up out of his seat. "It's Friday and you know what that means?" "What?", Sam asked sounding quite amused, snatching up his drawing pad, pencils and backpack. "Date night!", Blaine enthused, tossing the apple core into a waste basket about 40 feet away. Sam let out an impressive whistle.

"And there's more", Blaine added as he innocently looked up at his boyfriend. Sam cocked his head and an eyebrow waiting for Blaine's to explain what he meant. Blaine leaned in closer to Sam placing a hand on his chest, then he slowly trailed his fingers down his perfect abs to the waistband of his jeans, his breath hot on Sam's neck. "You WILL get lucky tonight", Blaine smirked as he pulled back and raced down the stairs onto the field before Sam could react.

Sam stood there motionless for a moment before he shook himself out of his trance and quickly hurried after Blaine.
