Chapter Text
“Waaaah, waaaah!”
The sound of crying wakes Namjoon up from his peaceful slumber. He pushes himself up from the bed and looks at the clock.
It reads 4.21 am.
Just as he got lost in thought the wailing reminds him of the task at hand.
“It’s okay baby, I got you.” Namjoon’s voice is deep and raspy due to him just waking up.
He walks over to the crib in the corner of his bedroom. Looking inside he can see to tear filled eyes glancing up at him. A soft smile spreads across his lips.
“Hi Yuna, are you awake huh?”
Yuna looks with in her soft brown eyes and giggles. She tries to sit without help but she fails and falls on her face. Tears return as she softly sobs.
“No sweetheart. What are you doing.” Namjoon picks her up and bounces her so she’ll stop crying. He pets her little bunny ears.
It’s weird how much she resembles her mom.
They have the same pure white bunny ears and tail. The same curly hair.
Still you can see that she’s Namjoon’s daughter.
They have the same eyes. The same dimpled smile. The same golden skin.
His mood sours when he thinks about Chanhee. They were dating for four months until she abruptly cut all contact with him. Seven months later she shows up at his doorstep with a newborn in her arms.
Namjoon panicked as she handed him the baby and ran off. He called the police and was immediately sent to the hospital when they discovered the baby was severely malnourished. The police searched for her for moths until they gave up.
Namjoon is snapped out of his thoughts when Yuna reaches up to snuggle into his hand. He coos at her antics.
“You just wanted some attention huh?”
Yuna giggles, she often those it when Namjoon talks to her. She’s probably the happiest baby ever. That doesn’t mean she isn’t a handful, all babies are.
Carefully Namjoon puts down Yuna in her crib. He tucks her pale yellow blanket around her. “I’d appreciate it if you didn’t wake me up until the morning.”
Tiredly he walks over too his bed and lays down. The last thing he hears before he falls asleep is the sound of Yuna babbling.
————————————
The next time Namjoon wakes up the clock is barley past seven. He knows that there’s no use in lounging and gets out of bed. Walking by the closet Namjoon decides it’s to early for anything other than pjs.
In the kitchen he’s made a little bit of an mess from last night. Namjoon chuckles thinking about Yoongi and Jin who came over for the annual “help Namjoon cook” event.
After he became a dad Jin made it his mission too teach him how make something other than instant ramen. The first few times were a disaster, however he likes too think that he’s gotten better.
Usually Yoongi tags along for moral support. Namjoon knows it’s just an excuse to cuddle with Yuna.
Namjoon can’t blame him, Yuna is the cutest baby ever.
He quickly makes a batch of pancake batter while watching the baby monitor on his counter to see if Yuna wakes up. She’s still sleeping soundly.
Out of nowhere the baby monitor starts beeping. During the ten seconds Namjoon spent looking away from the monitor Yuna has managed to stand up while holding the railing and is trying to climb out.
He hurries into his room to pick her up before she manages to escape.
Sighing he knows there’s no use in hoping that she’ll fall asleep again.
In the kitchen he sets down a happy Yuna in her highchair. She’s babbling while waving around a stuffed animal.
“Mhm honey, that’s very interesting.” Yuna beams at the sound of her dads voice.
“Babah!”
“I was thinking the same thing!”
They continue chattering until Namjoon finishes making his pancakes. While they cool down a bit Namjoon looks for Yuna’s formula.
Not long after he drags Yunas highchair to the dining table. As soon as Yuna gets her formula she greedily starts drinking. Namjoon watches in amusement as the bunny hybrid somehow manages to spill more than she actually drinks.
“You were hungry, huh?”
Namjoon checks his phone while periodically looking up too see if Yuna has gotten into any trouble. He sees a bunch of unread messages from the mommy group he’s a part of.
Yes, mommy group.
He’s the only dad there, but the ladies are incredible welcoming and helpful. Without them he wouldn’t have been able to raise Yuna properly.
The four ladies have already planned a new brunch/play date next month. Namjoon smiles and sends a thumbs up to let them know he’s in.
When he checks the other group chat he sighs. Jin has sent a five paragraph rant about the dangers of experimenting with potions since apparently Hoseok blew up his kitchen.
Putting down his phone he looks up at Yuna who’s staring intensely at him. She furrows her brow in deep concentration. Namjoon raises an eyebrow until he realises what’s going on.
“I forgot to change your diaper,” he sighs.
————————————
“Thank you for coming, see you next time!”
Namjoon breathes out in relief as the customer leaves.
His little magic shop, named Mono. is his dream come true. Even before when he worked in the government with military grade spells, Namjoon secretly wished for a quiet place away from all of the stress and horror of his job.
Unfortunately, business has been booming lately, something one would think is a good thing. Not for Namjoon though. More business means more stress, and more stress means less time he has for Yuna.
Sometimes things get so hectic he has to call for either Yoongi, Jin or Hoseok to help him with Yuna since she’s to young for daycare.
They’re all happy to help, but Namjoon doesn’t really want to bother them.
Yuna is currently strapped too Namjoon’s back in a baby carrier. Namjoon’s too scared to leave her alone.
He has cast a few mild protective spells on her. Not anything too strong since babies are very sensitive to magic, too many spells could permanently damage their nerves.
All his worries are forgotten when he sees his little bunny stick one of her ears inside her mouth.
“Are your ears tasty bun?”
The door opens and a familiar face shows up.
“Yuna my sweet, it’s your favourite oppa!” Jin struts in with shopping bags in both of his hands. “I’ve got you some gifts!”
Namjoon is eternally happy that the last customer left before Jin had the chance to scare them away. Jin has always had a... strong presence.
“More clothes? Hyung her entire wardrobe at this point is just gifts from you.”
“I’d do anything for my favourite little girl,” Jin exclaims with terrifying sincerity.
Namjoon doesn’t protest when Jin swoops her up from a he baby carrier. “You’re in luck hyung she just pooped.”
Jin looks like he’s about to protest. “Anything for your favourite little girl remember?” Namjoon teases with a smirk.
Jin gives him a playful glare. “Then I will change her diaper. Good day Joonie, I’m stealing her away for now.”
Namjoon watches Jin walking into the back room which doubles as a changing station/break room. He feels like it’s a bit unnecessary to have a break room since he’s the only one that actually works here (Hoseok and Jin helping him doesn’t count)
Well Jin insisted, and what Jin says goes.
Similar, but not quite the same as what Yoongi wants, eventually the universe will give him.
And if Hoseok screams loud enough, someone, somewhere will cave in and give him what he wants.
Maybe Namjoon should get new friends.
The only proper friends he has right now other than the chaos squad is the ladies from the mommy group and a handful of people he kept contact with after the military, if you count his regulars he has a few more.
Speaking, or rather thinking of regulars the door creaks open and a new familiar face turns up.
“Ahh Taehyung-shii! What can I help you with?”
Taehyung turns too him and pouts. “How many times do I have to tell you that you shouldn’t be so formal?”
Namjoon rolls his eyes. “Well Tae-ah, what can I help you with?”
Taehyung grins satisfied. “I have a potion here that I need some help with.” He rummages through his coat pocket until he finds a bottle of a strange bubbling pink liquid.
When Namjoon gets handed it he isn’t really sure what to do with it. “I’m sorry, but what is this even supposed to be?” Taehyung flushes slightly. “Umm well it’s a ‘Bane of the undead’ something went wrong when I added the roses.”
“I know what’s wrong, you’re using the master Rosewoods old potion book right?” Taehyung nods. “Well there was a translation error from English to Korean, it’s actually rosemary, not roses. Nobody makes ‘Bane of the undead’ anymore so they didn’t bother to correct it.”
Taehyung mutters out a little “oh”.
“Wait! Why are you even trying to make that nasty thing?”
“Ghost problem.”
“Ghost problem?” Namjoon repeats.
Taehyung nods, not looking like he wants to elaborate. He looks around for a moment until he stares at Namjoon’s empty carrier. “Where’s Yuna?” Namjoon looks at him in mock offence. “You didn’t even notice until now? Shame on you!”
Taehyung whines. “Namjoon-hyung! Don’t be mean!”
On cue Jin walks in with a content Yuna in his arms. “Observe!” Jin has dressed her up in a fancy purple dress. It almost looks to fancy for a seven month old. Almost.
Jin freezes when he spots Taehyung leaning over the counter. He narrows his eyes in suspicion, but softens when he sees Yuna giggling and stretching out her arms to reach Taehyung.
Jin sets her in Taehyung’s arms before turning around and winking at Namjoon. “My work here is done. Bye, bye bitches!”
Taehyung looks at Namjoon. “That was Jin right?” Namjoon nods tiredly. “That was Jin.”
He chats a little more with Taehyung until he has to go.
“Thank you so much Namjoonie, you’re the best!” Namjoon blushes a little at the statement. “I’m only doing my job,” he looks down as he murmurs. “Well you’re the damn best at your job.”
“You look tired, are you sure you don’t want me to help out?”
Namjoon shakes his head. “Thank you Tae, but I’ll manage for now. If I ever need help I’ll let you know when you stop by.”
Taehyung gives him a goodbye hug. Even though Namjoon isn’t so keen on physical affection he lets it slide since it’s Taehyung.
He has unfortunately developed a soft spot for the man. Unfortunately in the sense that it’s almost impossible to say no to him. Almost.
Surprisingly he has no other customers after that. Usually he’s more busy on Saturday nights.
Namjoon doesn’t complain and closes up the shop a bit early.
He goes to sleep not knowing that tomorrow something wonderful will happen.
————————————
Namjoon feel absolutely dreadful when he wakes up.
He heavily debated on leaving Yuna with Yoongi, Jin or Hoseok so that Yuna doesn’t have to deal with him. Problem is that Yoongi and Hoseok are on a couples trip and Jin is busy at the cafe after they lost an employee.
No one died she was just incredibly rude to the non-human customers. Which she shouldn’t have been considering Jin, the owner, isn’t human either.
Now he’s standing at the register trying not to glare at his customers. Most of them brush it of when they see his fussy baby making a ruckus. An old woman who comes every week for a hip remedy teases him about it.
“Ah, ah, ah Namjoon. You’re perfect little angel has finally been keeping you awake at night I see.” She goes as far as to pinch both Yuna’s and Namjoon’s cheek.
He doesn’t mind seeing as Mrs. Lee is one of the sweetest people on earth.
It’s a slow day much like the day before. Namjoon spends the free time trying to de-fuss Yuna who isn’t having any of it. She yells and throws anything she gets her hands on (and is strong enough to pick up).
His door opens just as Yuna calms down with a bottle in her mouth. Namjoon dares to leave her alone in a highchair and see who just came in.
A relatively young looking boy stands in his shop looking around like he’s trying to find something. “Hello welcome to Mono. How may I help you?”
“Let me be your familiar!” he blurts out with a fierceness in his big, doe eyes.
Namjoon is a bit taken aback by the sudden request. A familiar? He’s never had one, nor has he every seriously thought about getting one.
The boys confidence fades as he sees Namjoon’s confused face. “Please let me be your familiar I think you’re really cool.” He looks down at the he ground nervously tugging at his floppy bunny ears.
Just as Namjoon is about to politely tell the boy no, a young child bursts through the door crying.
Namjoon has panics, frantically trying too see the cause of his sadness. He recognises him as Mrs. Lee’s oldest grandson.
“Jae whats wrong?”
Jae hiccups trying to form a proper sentence. “H-he isn’t breathing!” Namjoon searches his brain for anything that might tell him who ‘he’ is. Then he remembers that Mrs. Lee told him that her youngest grandson was recently diagnosed with asthma.
He runs to the back room and grabs a inhaler he has laying around and he picks up Yuna in the process. In the main part of the shop the bunny familiar has managed to calm Jae down a tiny bit.
“You! If you’re so set on being my familiar take Yuna and if you dare hurt her I will castrate you.”
Namjoon sets Yuna down in his hands before rushing outside to help the poor kid.
————————————
This is not the way Jungkook expected to meet his idol.
All morning he’d been hyping himself up too confidently walk up to his shop and properly introduce himself before proposing the idea to let him be his familiar.
He did not expect him to be drop dead gorgeous in real life. His military pictures don’t do him justice.
It’s safe to say that he lost his ability to properly speak the second they locked eyes.
What his main concern currently is the baby in his arms.
Jungkook has never been particularly good with children, but Yuna seems calm. She looks at him in wonder. She reaches up a chubby hand to grab something.
He’s confused as to what she’s reaching for until he feels a slight tug on his bunny ear. She giggles. It’s a sweet sound that makes Jungkook’s heart melt.
Normally the act of touching a hybrid, weres or familiars ears/tail is heavily taboo, but babies don’t know any better. They’re, well, babies.
“You’re kinda like me aren’t you?”
Yuna babbles in response. Small soft sounds that don’t make any sense.
Jungkook fishes out his phone from his back pocket with one hand, the other he uses to support the baby. His leg is propped up on the counter as to help him balance Yuna. He know he looks ridiculous, on the other hand he doesn’t want to accidentally drop her.
Quickly he clicks on his most recent contact and presses call. After a few beeps a tired voice answers.
“Hello this is Park Jimin, how may I help your dumbass?”
“Umm I have a baby?” That sounded more like a question than originally intended.
“You have a what?! I thought I raised you too be a responsible young man, and now you have a child?! What the fuck Jungkook?”
“She isn’t even mine calm your tits, and you’re only two years older than me anyways. You know that I have thought of being a familiar?”
Jimin snorts. “More liked pined over one specific witch.”
“Shut up. Well I went in and my brain just stopped so I made a total fool out of myself so I was about to run and then this kid comes in saying somebody can’t breath so he runs out but before he those that he runs to the back room and hands me a child.”
Jimin is silent for a moment. “He just handed you a child?”
“Well he said that he’d castrate me if I hurt her.”
“That’s kinda hot.”
“I know.” Jungkook sighs. “I don’t know when he’ll be back or how to care for a baby.”
“You’ll figure it out. Bye!” Jimin hangs up.
Jungkook freezes. He can’t call his mom or dad. They have long asked him to give up his dream of being a familiar so he doesn’t know how to explain how he got a hold of a child. His roommate is out of the question.
Sure they’re close, but they’ve only known each other for a week and Jungkook isn’t ready to give him the burden of being his friend. Yet.
A little sob come from Yuna and Jungkook panics. He doesn’t know how to deal with a crying baby. Jungkook hurriedly pockets his phone and starts bouncing Yuna up and down.
“Hush bunny it’s okay.” It doesn’t work, she only seems to be wailing louder. “Take my ear.” Since she seemed so fond of tugging it earlier.
She instantly stops crying when she grips his floppy ear. A delighted giggle leaves her lips. Jungkook holds her so that he tummy is leaning against his chest. It also makes her look up and give him a long look.
Yuna’s eyes basically sparkles as she reaches up her unoccupied hand to grab his lip, and pull. Jungkook winces as her tiny nails dig into his soft skin. He gently removes her hand.
She then grabs at his shirt. Jungkook turns around when he hears the doorbell ring. A young woman enters the shop. She looks at him confused.
“I’m here to pick up my order.”
“Your order?” Jungkook asks before mentally facepalming himself, he’s at a shop of course people order things. “I’ll see if I can find it. What’s your name?”
“It’s Tzuyu.”
Jungkook goes into the back room and looks at the shelves. One of them is full of baby stuff, probably Yuna’s and on the other shelf there are multiple packages. Jungkook scans over them until he finds one where Tzuyu is written in bold letteres.
Unless there’s another package with the same name this is the right one. Jungkook takes it to the front where he hands it to Tzuyu.
“You’re not going to make me pay for it?”
Jungkook looks at her dumbfounded. “Oh right! I’m so sorry.”
She laughs. “No problem.”
Jungkook walks behind the counter and thanks Tzuyu when she sets the package down for him. She points at the side where there’s written 100 000 won. Tzuyu hands him the appropriate amount of cash.
“I’ve never seen you here before. Are you a friend of Namjoon
“Umm no, I just meet him today.”
Tzuyu gasps. “And Yuna lets you hold her? She usually hates strangers.”
They chat for a little while Tzuyu notices his struggling with opening the cash register with one hand. She helps him so that he doesn’t stand there looking like an idiot for much longer.
“Well it was nice chatting with you, it’s getting late so I have to go. Goodbye Jungkook.”
When Tzuyu moves to exit she almost bumps into Namjoon. “Oh you’re back!”
He gives her an apologetic look. “I’m sorry I was away I can get your order for you now.”
Tzuyu moves to exit. “Don’t worry! Jungkook got it for me. I payed so don’t worry.”
“Jungkook?” Namjoon mumbles to himself when Tzuyu exits. She pops her head back in. “Also I like the boy, keep him around will you.” She winks before disappearing.
“You found her package?” Namjoon questions.
Jungkook nods. “I went to the back and took the one with her name on it.”
Namjoon looks at him making him shift a bit under his gaze. He looks down at Yuna who’s still gripping his ear.
“Is she asleep?”
Jungkook looks down at her to see that her eyes are closed. Her breathing evened out a long time ago. Jungkook was just to busy to notice.
“I think so.”
Namjoon looks incredibly tired. “Please don’t wake her up. If you don’t mind holding her I’d appreciate it. She’s been awfully moody today.”
“I don’t mind, but are you babysitting or something.”
“It’s not babysitting if it’s my own child.”
It takes a few moments for Jungkook to process it. “Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t know.”
“Don’t worry. Just hold her and tell me when she wakes up.”
For at least ten minutes they don’t say a word. Namjoon is taking things out of boxes while Jungkook occasionally bounces Yuna when she starts stirring.
“No offence, but I thought familiars only had an animal form and a “human” form.” Namjoon makes quote marks at the word human.
“Well, uh, my mum is a familiar and my dad is half familiar, half were. So basically I’m stuck with the hybrid form and animal form.”
“Weres have three forms right?”
Jungkook nods. Weres are pretty uncommon now a days. They’re neither hybrid nor familiar. They’re originally a mix, but after a few hundred years they’re their own species.
Yuna sleeps for four hours. When she wakes up she refuses to let go of Jungkook’s ear. Namjoon luckily doesn’t seem to mind. During the four hours they chat.
He tells Namjoon some basic information about himself. Like that he’s 21, still has school they just have a break right now, and that he is incredibly scared of heights.
Namjoon tells him that he is 24, opened the shop three years ago, and that he is the only employee.
They talked about more, but these were the things Jungkook payed extra attention too.
“I’m going close up now. Thank you for taking care of Yuna for me.” Namjoon gives him a genuine dimpled smile and Jungkook’s heart melt.
Namjoon is incredibly handsome. Both inside and out. At least that the impression Jungkook got from him, and he thinks he’s pretty good at reading people.
Namjoon’s hair is a light blue colour that Jungkook think suits him amazingly. He thinks about Jimin who has recently dyed his hair orange, and his roommate has lavender hair.
Jungkook tugs at his light brown locks a bit. His hairs getting longer, maybe he should dye it?
Speak of the devil.
Jungkook sees familiar head of lavender hair. His roommate looks up and freezes.
“Jeon Jungkook!” he loudly gasps.
“Kim Taehyung!” Jungkook pretends to gasp back.
“Namjoon-hyung you lied to me!”
Namjoon walks out from behind a shelf. “What did I do?”
“You said that if you needed help at the shop you’d tell me.”
Namjoon raises an eyebrow. “Jungkook’s not.”
Taehyung interrupts him. “I’m hiring myself. See you tomorrow Namjoon-hyung, see you later Jungkookie!” He slams the door.
Namjoon voices both of their thoughts. “What the fuck just happened?”
