Chapter Text
It all started with Seokjin.
The Seokjin who refused to drive Jimin home from Jackson’s party because he was afraid of Jimin throwing up in “his baby.” Well, that’s just fine by Jimin, it’s simply peachy. He’ll just walk home. Walk for 40 minutes half asleep and still a little drunk at the asscrack of dawn.
With blurry eyes and misplaced feet, he’s managed to make a good amount of distance in the last half hour, narrowly escaping a giant goose in the park which decided that it hated Jimin the very second it saw his half smudged makeup. Jimin still hears the phantom honks in his head as he steps out onto the intersection.
His bleary, still mildly intoxicated hangover brain registers that he was in fact not hearing phantom honks but instead it was that of a vehicle. He looks up just in time to see a massive truck heading his way, horn blaring wildly. Struck by fear Jimin just stands frozen staring at the truck, he can’t move a single muscle in his body and all he feels is panic panic panic. He squints his eyes shut and waits, waits for the truck to strike him.
But it never happens. Instead, he feels a hand-wind into the back of his white Chanel sweater and yank him back with quite a bit of force. He falls back into someone’s chest with wide blown open eyes and he just stays like that for a moment, leaning against a strangers chest as he attempts to collect his bearings.
“Are you okay!?” He hears a voice in his ear, not yelling but urgently asking if he was okay.
“You’re not hurt are you? I didn’t pull you too hard? I’m sorry-” Jimin blinks, why is this stranger apologizing to him? With a single raised eyebrow he pushes himself up and turns around, ready to face his saviour and thank him for -holy shit is he hot.
The person who saved Jimin’s life just so happened to be tall, have a strong jaw, have good hair, is a male, and basically Jimin’s ideal type. The man’s beautiful face was now etched with worry as he grabbed the sides of Jimin’s arms, searching for injury.
“I’m fine, thank you so much.” Jimin pulls back and offers a bow to the man. When he returns vertical he speaks again. “And you really shouldn’t apologize, better I get a small bruise from a tug on my sweater rather than become a road pancake.” He glances at the road and shivers.
The man cracks a grin and Jimin positively melts, not only is the man’s smile absolutely gorgeous he has dimples!!! Two on either side of his face. Jimin suddenly has the urge to kiss the very ground this dude walks on.
“That’s very true aha- I was walking and saw you standing there and basically ran as fast as I could when I saw how frozen you were.” Jimin feels his heart swell upon those words, he knows the man is just being an honest and caring citizen, but the fact he ran to save Jimin’s dumbass just makes Jimin smile.
“Okay okay how about since I made you run and you saved my life, I buy you some ramen from the convenience store over there?” Jimin suggests, pointing across the street. He’s not quite ready to lose the man’s dazzling smile quite yet. The taller man looks hesitant and Jimin realizes he has yet to introduce himself. “Oh! I’m sorry, my name is Park Jimin” he tries to smile his friendliest smile which seems to relax the reluctant man and he smiles and nods.
“Okay Jimin, I’m Kim Namjoon by the way.” He sticks his hand out in an offering for Jimin to shake and Jimin can’t help but giggle as he shakes Namjoon’s hand.
“Let’s go then Namjoon-ssi.”
~
Now Namjoon isn’t sure if it’s the way Jimin hides behind his hand when he goes to deposit more ramen into his mouth or the way he slaps the table lightly whenever he laughs but he can’t help but feel endeared by the shorter boy.
“You’re joking!” Namjoon chuckles as he stirs his own ramen around using his chopsticks. He had just been listening to the story of how Jimin ended up in the middle of the intersection that early in the morning and they had just gotten to the part where this “Seokjin” guy decided to abandon Jimin and leave him all alone.
“I’m not!” Jimin laughs and hits Namjoon’s arm as he covers his mouth to prevent noodles from escaping. “He literally looked me dead in the eyes and just drove off! Said I was gonna throw up in his car, and I haven’t thrown up at all!” Jimin whines towards the end and the sound makes Namjoon’s smile grow by tenfold.
“Yet.” Namjoon jokes and Jimin shakes his head, leaning forward as he tries to contain his giggles. “Yet.” Jimin agrees and goes to stuff more noodles in his mouth.
“Now… we haven’t discussed why you’re out so early in the morning.” Jimin chews and leans back in his chair, tilting his head to look at Namjoon who shrugs.
“I dunno” he mumbles shyly “I like to go on walks.” He looks down bashfully and glances at Jimin through his eyelashes. All he can see is Jimin staring at him with a fond expression.
“That’s….” Jimin starts, staring at Namjoon with honey eyes. “Hor-ri-ble!! I can’t imagine getting up that early to walk!!” Jimin places both hands on the table as he leans forward with a full-body laugh. Namjoon sits up straight with a shocked expression that borderlines insulted.
“Yah! Park Jimin! You’re up this early walking!” He retorts, trying to contain his own laughter.
Jimin recovers enough to push himself up and hold one finger in front of Namjoon. “Well, I never actually went to bed so ha!” And that’s what breaks Namjoon, his resolve finally crumbling and the laughs spilling through his lips like music out of an open window. Anybody who looked at them would see two idiots with too much early morning energy but they didn’t care because in that moment they weren’t existing as Kim Namjoon and Park Jimin, they were Namjoon and Jimin. Two boys just enjoying each others warming smiles and contagious laughter.
Namjoon, obviously, recovered from his laughing fit first and just patiently waited for Jimin to bubble down. Watching his silver earrings dangle and bounce every time Jimin swayed his body side to side. Jimin eventually calmed down enough to take a sip from his carton of juice. And low and behold, Namjoon was still looking at Jimin. If Jimin truly noticed Namjoon’s consistent staring he didn’t mention it, he just smiled every time they met eyes. Jimin glanced away from Namjoon and to the time on his phone screen, eyes widening a tad.
“I’ve got to go if I’m gonna be ready in time for my class! Shit!” Jimin cursed and hurried to throw away his garbage. Namjoon pulled himself away from the table panicked because he wasn’t ready to finish talking to Jimin, wasn’t ready to let go of Jimin at all.
“Jimin- Jimin wait!” Namjoon quickly grabbed Jimin’s wrist before he could walk out of Namjoon’s life forever. The younger, as he had earlier learned, paused and looked at him.
“Go on a date with me.” He asks hopeful, goofy smile on his face. “I haven’t known you long but I definitely know I like you.” He monitors Jimin’s expression carefully. A few moments pass before Jimin is breaking out into a bright beautiful smile that turns his eyes into crescents.
“Of course I’ll go on a date with you Namjoon Hyung.” His expression is soft as he holds his free hand out. “Give me your phone, I’ll put my number in.” He beamed. Namjoon quickly drops Jimin’s wrist and scrambles to pull his phone out of his pocket before placing it carefully in Jimin’s small palm. He watches the younger type his name and number into a contact before handing it back. Namjoon glances down, surveying the contact name Jimin had picked for himself. “Park Jiminie<3”
“Text me cutie!” Jimin calls from the door as he pushes it open before dashing down the street. Namjoon suddenly lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding before breaking out into a happy grin, cradling his phone to his chest.
“He called me cutie” Namjoon whispers to himself and wiggles in his spot.
He couldn’t wait to see Jimin again.
