AP English & Literature Poem
Numb
"Close your eyes"
"Say your goodbyes"
"It's time to go home"
Never got to play
The comforting words they didn't say
In this world I am alone
Don't try to help me now
The tears and blood have already stained the ground
Where were you when I needed help the most?
Hospital visits to see the ill
With each day, the higher the bill
Though no one treated my hurt
No tears from the stone man
No fears that they bore
However they burdened me with negativity in my core
No pity while they watch
No sympathy for what I've lost
No regrets to ease my pain
Why do I try?
For me they won't buy
Always care for my own
Though no matter what they do
No matter they don't
I will continue my strive to be something I know I won't
Hopefully so one day,
Far from today,
They will welcome me with open arms
And do something I've always hoped for them to do
For them to tell me
"We love you too."
I stare at the computer screen.
Finally done with the assignment.
Ugh.
I can't.
I highlight the entire poem.
Delete.
I'd be an idiot to write what I actually feel.
