Work Text:
The fresh air of the balcony was a relief to your head. With people in every nook and cranny of the large mansion, it was difficult to find any peace and quiet. The hustle and bustle of important persons moving in and out of doorways, waiters delivering hors d'oeuvre and flutes of champagne; everything moved at a fast pace, matching the quick tempo from the live band. The scene was of one in a movie: extravagant ice sculptures, golden chandeliers, bodyguards in disguise at every corner. The smell of alcohol and smoke filled the house, with the guests and workers swimming through the thick of it. Feet and bodies dance around each other. The never-ending movements of every person in the building could have given any onlooker the impression of a moving house.
Looking up, the stars and moon were on full display to your eyes. Even though you were there for your boss’s birthday, you couldn’t exactly keep going and going like the rest of the party. The expensive curtains that swayed and swished behind you were the rift between the calm and the storm. You sipped on a small glass of water as your eyes drank in the sparkling stars, tree limbs waving about them. With both forearms upon the stone railing, you shifted from one heeled foot to another. Your fingers circled around the rim of the glass, light reflecting off it while you smugged the dark red lipstick marks. Your body felt numb from the numerous hugs and dances shared that night. The stars seemed to wink and smile at you through the trees.
But the arms that wrapped around you pulled your body back into consciousness. The strong arms that you had come to love tightened until they were snug around your stomach. The slight musk of the man behind you couldn’t be mistaken for anyone else but Guido, the light breeze carrying his scent through the air towards you. He had taken off his suit jacket and pushed his white sleeves up to his elbows. As you pushed yourself up from the edge of the balcony, your face turned to see him.
His sweaty, tan skin seemed to glisten and sparkle, something to make stars envy. Dark curls were swept up every second or so by the wind, only to fall back onto his forehead. His cheeks were dusted pink, alcohol clearly presenting itself on his face and breath. His dark eyes were taken up by large pupils, taking in the lovely sight before him.
The breeze seemed to turn you around in his arms and push you farther into his grasp. You sat down your water in return for both arms to be free. His lower back was damp from how much moving and dancing he was doing previously. You were glad you had chosen a backless dress, as the light breeze ran up your spine, raising gooseflesh on its way up. Guido was also glad for the dress’s lack of cloth as he walked his fingers up and down your sides and spine, almost down to your bottom.
A firm kick from a heel stopped his hand from moving any further. Looking down, he could only see the top of your head. You peeled your slightly sweaty cheek away from him, pink across your face from feeling his hands go so low. Any passerby could see your silhouettes through the curtains if they focused hard enough. There was no way he was going to try and take you now. Peering up at him, Guido had on a shit-eating grin. He knew how to get under your skin just so, and in turn, your clothes. Your hand made its way up to his chest, fingers tugging down on the small gold chain around his neck and leading his head towards yours. Two noses squished together, a pair of mischevious eyes meet matching ones.
“Is the party too much for you?” he questioned. His hands rubbed your back in a comforting fashion.
“Ci sono quattro gatti.” You smiled at your joke, watching Guido’s face morph into disgust. “I’ve been socializing for the past six hours. I think I’ve earned a water break.”
“That’s understandable. And don’t bring that number up here. We don’t need anything bad to happen tonight.”
You laughed and decided to change the topic.
“I can’t believe you were freaked out over nothing today. Your own best friend and boss, hating your present? What a laugh.”
The man holding you seemed to flush even pinker, maybe red to a degree. What could he say? Giorno means so much to him, the gift had to deliver that message to him. And if that meant spending the whole day debating with himself over which timepiece would best suit the boss, so be it.
“I was not! If anything, I put more effort into my gift than you.”
Guido shook you in his arms a bit, making you stumble on your heels in the process. If it weren’t for his arms keeping you up, you would have taken a tumble into the silk curtains. Paying for a replacement curtain didn’t sound like a party to you right now. You pointed a finger in front of his face.
“No one could mistake Gio’s laughter as distaste for my card. Everyone loves funny cat cards. And I saw you, panicking in the store over what watch you thought he’d like best. And you even hand wrapped it yourself, rather than let the employee do it.” Your face held a haughty smirk, eyes shining with mischief. Your pointed finger tapped him on the nose, making sure to move it back quick enough without getting bitten.
“You even went to the level of counting how many holes there were in the watch’s band. Every time there were four, you had the jeweler put in back on the display.” Your eyes rolled as you called him out on his superstitious habits. You didn’t mind his tetraphobia, you just liked poking fun at his small misfortunes.
“As his third in command, it’s important for me to be on guard for any signs of danger to him. I would expect you to know that by now,” Guido retorted. Now his finger was pointed at you.
“Yeah yeah. I gotcha, Mr. Superstitious.”
You halted him from responding by pulling the sides of his slightly unbuttoned shirt and bringing him down for a small kiss. What was supposed to be small morphed into something more as he brought his hand to the back of your neck to deepen the kiss. He couldn’t be bothered with how this might look to anyone passing by. You didn’t seem to mind either, by the way you tightened your hold on his shirt.
Slowly, Guido guided you into the corner of the stone railing. Your arms slid up to reach his neck, crossing over one another behind his back. The taste of the wine he’d been drinking was still in his mouth and on his tongue. You couldn’t get enough of the taste of him and the wine. Your tongues intertwined and danced as your bodies did the same. Guido’s frame was enough to cover you up, but his hand had left your back to grab onto your ass, lifting you up and pressing your leg to wrap around him. Your intentions could be seen as clear as day from behind the translucent curtains.
“Is that a knife in your holster, or are you happy to see me?” He smirked at you as his hand met the leather strap on your thigh. You smiled at his joke and wiped some of the red lipstick off his mouth.
“Red is a good look for you, but I don’t think it matches your outfit.”
He pulled you in for another kiss but was interrupted by a certain voice.
“Hey, you two. Stop being horny and come watch Giorno blow out his candles!”
Narancia was holding the curtains back and smirking as you separated from Guido. Grabbing your glass of water, you also grabbed Guido’s hand to lead him to where Narancia was taking you. Your dress fell back over your legs as you walked. Through the crowd, you looked back at Guido to see his face, lips smeared with lipstick and eyes hooded over with a familiar passion. A wink made its way to him as you turned back around to follow the younger man in front of you. Guido knew this wasn’t over yet.
