Work Text:
Take my hand
Will you share this with me?
Cause darling without you
All the shine of a thousand spotlights
All the stars we steal from the night sky
Will never be enough
- Never Enough, Loren Allred
Seokjin face is stretched into a polite smile as he bows again and again towards the guests passing by. A banquet had just finished in one of their hotel’s hall and the guests are now heading to the buffet for their dinner. He makes sure his smile is in place because it’s basic etiquette especially if your work is at a hotel and your job is a hotelier. The key is to make guests feel welcomed, prioritized and respected as much as possible.
Once the guests have all filtered out of the room, his manager immediately takes his side, handing him a long parchment—which most likely contains the names of the guests and their rooms and whispers.
“Do final checks for each of the guests’ rooms and make sure everything is in place”
Seokjin nods before quickly making his way towards one of the hotel’s elevators, making sure that he’s quick on his feet but also has his posture right. It’s one of the things he needs to check on constantly because as a hotelier, you need to be swift and elegant.
He mentally calculates the time left in his head until he has to arrange another upcoming event as he thoroughly checks each room. Thankfully, there aren’t much to fix in each room. Just a few mishaps here and there but nothing major.
He gets back to the lobby in a span of two hours and discreetly wipes the light sweat on his forehead and released an inaudible sigh before straightening himself up.
When he first began, he used to despise this job. Rude customers, constant checking up on rooms, all of those managed to tire him up. The fact that the job wasn’t even his ideal and he originally wanted to pursue being an actor but because his father had needed his help, he relented.
Over time, he got used to the job and has grown to love it. Now, here he is. One of the best hoteliers among the staff and he takes pride in that.
He checks the time on his watch, he has about 30 minutes of break before he has to head straight to that event.
Not bad.
It’s enough for him to have a light dinner.
He’s about to walk to the direction of the hotel’s restaurant when one of the female staffs comes running to him.
“Seokjin-ssi!”
He directs a smile at her, ‘Yes, Chaeyoung-ssi?”
The woman seems to be flustered for a moment before perking up as if remembering what she’s here for.
“A guest is requesting for you”
Seokjin suppresses a sigh at the words.
“Ah, actually my break just started and I was thinking of getting some dinner”, he mutters, audible to the woman in front of him.
“That isn’t a problem at all, the guest is at the restaurant. Kim Namjoon-ssi”
This time, he sighs lightly and nods his head.
It was just Namjoon.
“Alright, thank you, Chaeyoung-ssi. I’ll go to him”, he said before bowing quickly and leaving before the woman can say anything else.
Chaeyoung tends to be insistent to go out with him and Seokjin really would because she’s genuinely nice and pretty if only he wasn’t gay as fuck.
Being a hotelier and with many admirers don’t really give him the time to be free of being clear about his sexuality.
He heads straight to the restaurant and locates, almost immediately, the familiar beret Namjoon wears and he power walks towards the man’s table and slides down on the seat across him.
Namjoon directs his gaze from the newspaper he was reading to him.
“Oh hyung, you’re finally here”
Namjoon pushes a plate in front of him and he mumbles a small ‘thank you’ at the meal in front of him. The man never forgets to include him in his orders of meals every time he stays at Seokjin’s hotel. Be it breakfast, lunch or dinner.
“Joonie, what are you doing here? You’re never here unless you’re staying in for an event. Are you staying here for our next one?”, he asks curiously.
“Ah yes, hyung. Actually, it’s a close friend that’s going to be present in your next event”
“Close friend?”
Namjoon wordlessly hands him a small card.
“You should come to watch, hyung. He’s a prodigy”
He takes the card in his hands and looks at the name written in elegant but simple letters.
Min Yoongi
Pianist
He brings his gaze back to Namjoon.
“Is he performing here? I wasn’t informed about it”
Namjoon hums for a moment and Seokjin shoves a piece of meat in his mouth and chews as he waits for the man.
“Well, I’m sure you’re informed that a few college students are coming here. He’s one of those students but he’s the only one performing. I’m positive you would be briefed about more details later”
Seokjin frowns in thought as he tries to recall what he was told a few days ago and he vaguely remembers his manager mentioning about college students.
“You said he’s a college student, how old is he?”
“24, a year younger than you, hyung. He’s in senior year of his Master’s Degree in Music production. He’s incredibly talented, hyung. Probably the most talented among all the pianists in his batch. You should really consider watching”
Seokjin shoves more food into his mouth and Namjoon waits patiently as he swallows his food. Seokjin dabs his lips with the napkin.
“I’ll have to serve the guests while your friend plays, Joonie”
He pushes the little card back to Namjoon.
Namjoon lightly shakes his head and clicks his tongue.
“Oh please, hyung. Everyone would be busy watching Yoongi-hyung. Trust me, he’ll have the audience enthralled once he starts playing, they wouldn’t any wine or champagne or whatever rich people like to indulge into. You’re going to regret not watching so just take it”
Seokjin chuckles lightly before looking at the card on the table. For some reason, he’s tempted to take it even though he knows he would probably be too busy when Min Yoongi performs.
Nevertheless, he cradles the card in his hands, looking at it a second longer before he’s pocketing it in his coat pocket.
“I’ll see what I can do. Is he the only performing or are the other students too?”
“From what I’ve heard, he’s the only one performing. It’s some kind of privilege for winning the recital they had a few weeks back”
Seokjin hums impressed. “He must really music and is very talented, huh”
Namjoon laughs for a moment.
“Oh hyung, you’re in for a treat so you better see his performance”
After that, the topic diverts to what they’ve both been up to but the thought of the mysterious talented pianist lingers in the back of Seokjin’s mind.

There’s a certain rush the day when Min Yoongi is going to perform, there are also notably more guests than ever. All rich and high-end people and Seokjin wonders how talented this man is to have alumni from different famous colleges attend just to see him perform.
He’s currently assisting guests to their seats in the hotel’s biggest hall. He then gets back to the entrance of the hall and stands upright. Polite smile and hands clasped in front of him as he welcomes more incoming guests with a smile.
He wouldn’t admit it but he’s curious about where the rumored talented pianist is. All he hears as he passed by guests earlier are flurries of whispers. Mostly about how they’re all looking forward to the performance.
Deep down, Seokjin wishes he could watch it too.
As he continuously welcomes the guests, a gesture to his right has him directing his gaze and he sees his manager gesturing for him to go to the kitchens and check in on all the dishes being prepared.
Seokjin nods once before hurrying off, bowing to any guests he meets on the way.
He arrives at the kitchens and it’s as if a rapid-fire competition is present with the way all chefs are moving quickly, preparing dish after dish in a matter of minutes.
Seokjin looks at all the list of dishes to see that there are only a few more left. He nods to himself and checks back into the restaurant, fixing napkins that aren’t in place and any cutlery that are just a little bit off in their position.
By the time he’s making his way back to the main hall, he can hear the telltale notes of a piano.
Min Yoongi has started to perform.
He power walks towards the entrance and the whole hall is packed of people standing up, and just like Namjoon said everyone seems to be focused on the performance. Seokjin excuses himself to several guests as he worms his way closer to the front and once he sees the performer, he feels his breath hitch.
In the middle of the hall, Min Yoongi sat on the grand piano. Pale and elegant fingers gliding across the ivory keys and Seokjin connects the man’s fingers to the face and his heart thumps.
Min Yoongi is gorgeous.
Coral lips pulled into a natural pout, eyes focused on to the keys in front of him, eyelids fluttering closed in a few notes, silver earrings dangling as he moves his head lightly, Min Yoongi looked ethereal under the chandelier.
He looked like he belonged in the middle of the hall, black and white attire contrasting against the fluffy red carpet underneath his feet.
Seokjin is absolutely enthralled as his gaze is set on the man performing in front of him. Continuous melodies and notes brought by his fingertips ringing across the room, as if he’s putting everyone in a hypnotic daze.
And Seokjin feels hypnotized.
He knew it was love, at first sight, the moment Min Yoongi looks up for a moment and directly meets his gaze.
He feels his own eyes widen and he sees Min Yoongi’s eyes widen for a moment too as if he knew too.
It’s as if time stopped for this moment for the two of them, the collision of two planets as if it was all meant to be. Somewhere in his heart, Seokjin knew that he was living his life all for this moment. Min Yoongi had questions in his eyes but it also looked like he realized, like he agreed with Seokjin’s heart.
The performance was over before Seokjin could even blink and he stumbled back in shock as he tried to get his bearings back. He hadn’t even noticed that Min Yoongi had stopped playing and Seokjin’s gaze remained glued to his figure.
Even as the guests clapped, Seokjin stood there, paralyzed.
And then everything was blurry as he mechanically greeted the guests on their way out of the hall, his eyes seem to always find its way back to Min Yoongi.
The man was currently talking to what seemed to be his professor and a few alumni who was praising him. Seokjin feels all the air leave his lungs when the man smiles gummily.
If he was gorgeous before, he just looks otherworldly when he smiled.
Seokjin vaguely remembers that he has a job at the moment and blinks rapidly and shakes his head lightly.
What the hell just happened?
He sees the last of the guests out as he breathes some oxygen into his lungs and clears his head.
He’s about to leave when a deep and soft voice speaks.
“Kim Seokjin-ssi? You are Namjoon’s friend right?”
Seokjin turns to look at the speaker and he immediately freezes into place.
Min Yoongi.
He’s even more gorgeous up close and Seokjin really wants to die inside. He barely registers the fact that Min Yoongi asked a question and that he’s supposed to answer until a small frown marred Yoongi’s features and he fumbles.”
“Oh-uh-um”, he starts eloquently.
Jesus Christ Seokjin, get a grip!
“Ah yes, yes that’s me. A pleasure to finally meet you, Min Yoongi-ssi. You’re very talented”, he manages to get out feeling the tips of his ears burn in embarrassment.
He just stuttered in front of a customer!
He feels himself get more flustered as he looks at the light blush that dusts Yoongi’s cheeks at the compliment. Min Yoongi bows for a bit.
“Oh, uh, thank you. I’m glad you liked the performance”
Silence then ensued as they stood there, awkwardly and shyly sizing up each other. Yoongi’s professor and alumni have long already left.
“Can I take you out to dinner after my shift”, Seokjin blurts out the same time as Yoongi seems to blurt out, “Can I see you later then?”
Seokjin clamps his hand to his mouth in embarrassment, he can’t believe he just asked a guest out on a potential date while he’s ON THE JOB.
The bright gummy smile he receives is all worth it though.
“I thought you would never ask”
And somewhere on the back of his head, the few specific lyrics of a song plays in his head.
‘Take my hand
Will you share this with me?
Cause darling without you
All the shine of a thousand spotlights
All the stars we steal from the night sky
Will never be enough’
Seokjin just knew that Min Yoongi would be in his life for a long time.
Somehow both of them knew that they can’t be in this journey of their lives without having each other’s hands wound together and frankly, Seokjin doesn’t mind that because their stars were meant to align, after all.
