Work Text:
Jimin is leaning against the counter and talking on the phone when Hoseok opens the door to their apartment, removes his shoes and puts his bag away before crossing the living room to join him in the open kitchen.
“Yeah. Yes. We will,” Jimin giggles, playing with the ring that hangs from a chain around his neck, looking at Hoseok. “Bye dad, I love you. See you in two weeks.”
Jimin hangs up and as soon as he sets his phone on the counter Hoseok grins and slowly pulls him in for a kiss. “Hi, fiancé.”
“Hi,” Jimin replies with a smile, kissing back.
“What did they say?” Hoseok asks, curious, wrapping his arms around Jimin’s waist. “Did they guess straight away like my parents did?”
Jimin’s arms wrap around Hoseok’s shoulders as he nods. “Yeah, my parents kind of guessed too. They said they expect the good news this time around, not like six months ago when our families had dinner together for the first time and you and I didn’t deliver.”
Hoseok laughs. They meet each other’s eyes before Jimin pulls Hoseok in for another kiss, sweet and deep like he has been waiting to do this all day.
“Did you wrap up filming today?” Hoseok asks, hands reaching lower on the small of Jimin’s back. Jimin nods. “When will I be able to see you dancing in the MV for Melon’s future song of the year?”
Jimin chuckles. “The nation’s sweetheart’s comeback is in three weeks,” he answers. “It’s a different MV concept for the artist, so I hope people will like it.”
“I’m sure they will if you are starring in it,” Hoseok replies, kissing Jimin’s neck where it tickles, making him squirm and laugh.
“You are home early,” Jimin observes, fingers scratching the back of Hoseok’s head, prompting a content sigh out of him.
“I decided to give the boys a break,” Hoseok says. “Their first comeback is next week, they’ve been working hard.”
“Hmm, is teacher Jung going soft on his students?” Jimin teases.
“Never!” Hoseok exclaims playfully. “Last three run throughs of the choreo were perfect, they deserved it,” he says, placing soft kisses along Jimin’s jawline. “I ran into Jungkook in the hallway today. He said he liked my necklace,” Hoseok comments, bringing a hand to the ring hanging from a chain around his neck. “I don’t think he realized what it means, though.”
Hoseok had asked Jimin to marry him the morning of the day before, and Jimin had said yes, and after an hour spent lazily making out in bed Hoseok had pulled out a ring from his bedside drawer only to find out Jimin had one for him too, bought a few days before, because Jimin had been having a feeling for the past two weeks like they weren’t freakishly in sync enough.
“Speaking of which,” Jimin says, fingers drawing patterns on Hoseok’s shirt, “when are we going to tell the guys we are engaged?” A giddy smile betrays his expression, like he still can’t believe they are getting married.
“Aren’t we all going to Namjoon and Seokjin’s summer house for the weekend? I think that might be our chance.”
“Ok,” Jimin agrees, kisses Hoseok’s lips once, twice for good measure.
They are playing charades after lunch, lounging by the pool while Taehyung plays a few songs on the piano.
Jimin is sitting on Hoseok’s lap, an arm around his shoulders, watching as Jungkook tries to make Seokjin and Namjoon guess the title of a song. Yoongi shouts wrong answers to distract them, which makes Hoseok and Jimin laugh and effectively throws Jungkook off his game.
Jimin suddenly turns to face Hoseok with a gasp. “I have an idea,” he leans to say, whispering a plan in Hoseok’s ear.
Hoseok pulls back to look at him, thinking. “Why not? Let's try,” he smiles.
“I’ll ask Taehyung,” Jimin says, pecks Hoseok’s cheek and moves to sit next to his friend. There’s enough room for two people in the piano bench and he watches Taehyung’s fingers deftly press the keys. “Tae.”
“Jiminie,” Taehyung replies, looking at him. “Any requests?”
Jimin lowers his voice. “Could you play the wedding march when it’s my turn?”
“Oh, is your thing wedding related?” Taehyung asks. He frowns. “Isn’t it cheating if you use sound in charades?”
“Yes, but it’s not for the game. It’s…” Jimin turns back to the others, sees Jungkook still struggling and Hoseok looking his way, giving him a thumbs up. "You'll see."
"Ok," Taehyung says. "Just give me a sign."
"Thank you," Jimin replies, goes back to the patio just when the timer goes off and Namjoon shouts the correct answer at the last minute.
"Yeah!" Jungkook high fives his teammates. "Team Kim Seokjin always wins!"
They all laugh, including Taehyung who's been closely following the game.
"Ok, it's my turn," Jimin says, taking Jungkook's place in front of the group. "This one is not for points so everybody can try to guess."
His friends seem confused, even more so when Hoseok stands up and takes the hand Jimin is offering him.
"What's this about?" Seokjin asks, intrigued, when Hoseok and Jimin have walked up the path that leads to the pool and turned around, arm in arm, and Jimin nods in Taehyung's direction.
Taehyung starts playing the wedding march, and Jimin and Hoseok slowly go down their makeshift aisle, chuckling at their friends' confused expressions.
"Marriage?" Namjoon ventures, and Jimin rolls his hand to keep the guesses coming.
"Walking down the aisle," Yoongi tries, Hoseok shakes his head.
"Getting married," Jungkook says. Jimin points to him, signals him to keep going.
"Getting married outdoors," Seokjin guesses and Hoseok says no.
They stop walking and face each other, make like they are exchanging vows and rings.
"Getting married indoors?" Jungkook tries. They laugh, shaking their heads.
"Give us a clue," Yoongi says.
"Ok."
Hoseok points to Jimin, then points to himself, and makes like they are exchanging rings again.
"You are getting married," Taehyung says, stops playing the piano. “Are you engaged!?”
There’s a beat of silence where Hoseok and Jimin hold hands and smile and nod before chaos erupts in the patio, their closest friends expressing joy, surprise and excitement all at the same time.
“Oh my god,” Taehyung runs to hug them both, a big smile on his face. “I’m so happy for you guys, congratulations!”
“How? When? Who?” Namjoon asks, giving each one a tight hug, clearly too excited to form proper sentences.
Yoongi laughs at this when he hugs them. “Wait, don’t tell the story yet, I’ll go get the expensive champagne I know Namjoon and Seokjin hide somewhere in this house.” He smiles. “Congrats guys, all the best.”
Seokjin is right behind him, pulling them into hugs as soon as they are free. “Welcome to the married or soon to be married club. We meet for brunch every first Sunday of the month,” he jokes. “No Jungkooks are allowed.”
Jungkook succeeds in pinching Seokjin’s arm as he moves aside, then hugs them so tight Jimin thinks he can hear Hoseok’s and his bones cracking. “I love you, hyungs,” he says, no more words needed.
Yoongi is back with a bottle of champagne and seven glasses, pours them while Jimin and Hoseok tell the story of their engagement.
“To Hoseok and Jimin,” Namjoon toasts, “may your love continue to flourish in this new chapter of your lives. Cheers!”
“Cheers!”
Hoseok pulls Jimin closer by the arm he has wrapped around his waist, kisses his lips while Jimin rubs his lower back.
“Love you,” he grins. “We are getting married.”
“We are,” Jimin grins back. “Love you too.”
