Katsuki dwelled on the idea of proposing to Izuku for a good bit of time before making a firm decision. The idea sprung from attending the wedding of some of Izuku’s (his) friends. He and Izuku had lived together for four years and had a child together. They worked together, they slept together, and shared practically every aspect of their lives together. They were a pair through and through, and had been for a while. So naturally this was the next step. Something about actually asking the nerd to make it permanent spooked Katsuki, though. They had openly agreed to go to couples counseling early on in their relationship considering the rocky beginnings they had and Katsuki’s history of anger issues, stemming from that experience he knew that they were compatible and intended to spend the rest of their lives together. So what was it about this particular step that frightened him so much? Knowing that he had to bare himself and his feelings completely raw, presenting himself for rejection perhaps? They had never really talked about it, but Katuski knew it was something Izuku wanted. As determined as Katsuki was to keep up his stoic hero schtick, he didn’t spend much time thinking about marriage. Izuku on the other hand, had a list of the pairs of superheroes that were together and were amazing teams on hand to throw at Katsuki when the topic came up. As a result, Katsuki knew it was something the other had thought about, and that it was something he would want too. He was still hesitant though. This was a big commitment. So was a child but that’s neither here nor there. In the end it was something stupidly simple that tipped him over.
Izuku grinned from underneath Katsuki as they broke apart, eyes shining brightly with complete adoration. His hands gently caressed the muscle of Katsuki’s arms as the blonde held himself over Izuku. The touch was so gentle that is hurt Katsuki’s entire being in the best way possible.
“I love you Katsuki.”
Four simple words, the use of his name, and the look on Izuku’s face was enough to make Katsuki’s heart clench with emotion. There was only one other person on the planet he loved this much and the man below him had given him that person as well. Nothing could ever possibly compare to the way Izuku made him feel. No one ever would. It was that simple, and his choice was made.
“I love you to Izu,” he replied before leaning down and continuing to kiss the other, slower than he had been before.
“So fucking much.”
“Dude! This is like, a huge deal!” Kirishima proclaimed loudly enough that all eyes fell on him and Katsuki. Glaring red eyes bore through the redhead as his friend knocked the back of his head lightly.
“You want everyone in the damn bar to know?” he hissed. Kirishima just continued to smile brightly as he clapped a hand on his friends back.
“I’m honored you’d come to me for help, don’t worry buddy, I’ll help you plan a proposal so good, ole Deku won’t know what hit him.”
The two spent some time chatting (arguing) about what Bakugou should do for the proposal. Eijiro agreed that it had to be something at least a little sentimental because Izuku was a huge sap. Some of their most important moments happened at Yueii so they constructed a plan to get access to the campus for a limited time. Katsuki was still in touch with All Might through Izuku so it wouldn’t be too hard to get in.
“Bro, you can’t fight him then ask him to marry you.” Kirishima said deadpan.
“Why the fuck not? We spar all the time, always have. He fucking loves to spar.”
“Well yeah, but that’s not really a proposal type of activity. It’s not exactly romantic?”
“Fuck that typical romance shit. We don’t do anything by the book, we ain’t starting now.”
Kirishima shrugged, “I guess you’re right. He’d say yes no matter what anyway.”
Izuku loved Katsuki. Like a LOT. Even though they had a rough start to their relationship. They came together on the tail end of an intense rivalry and admittedly some terrible choices as children. Katsuki bullied him, he would admit that to anyone who asked, and Katsuki would do the same. He was rude, foul mouthed, and downright mean sometimes. Then came the startling realization that the world was not what he thought it was, and Katsuki changed. He made honest friends and eventually begged Izuku for forgiveness for his actions. Once they became decent friends again, it was over for Izuku. He was hopelessly in love with his friend even before the first time they hooked up, before they were even together. It took the shock of a lifetime for them to get their heads out of their asses and realize life waits for no one and if they wanted to be together, nothing was stopping them. Katsuki helped pull Izuku through the darkest days of his life, and he’d been by him through every step of his life since then. So yeah, Izuku really loved Katsuki. His Kacchan. Something in him just clicked one day, and he decided that he wanted to spend forever with the blonde by his side. Watching his best friend proclaim her love for her new wife made something in him yearn. Katsuki was his, and he wanted everyone to know it. The natural conclusion was to ask the other to do so. To ask Katsuki to marry him.
“Oh Deku this is fantastic,” Uraraka smiled as she hugged Izuku tightly, the embrace made a little awkward by their position in two patio chairs.
“If anyone was going to tame Bakugou, it would be you,” Tsu added. Uraraka squealed and clapped her hands together in excitement.
“You can use some of Tsu and my’s leftover decorations! Oh and I can help you plan it and-”
“Thanks Och-chan, but I have to ask him first. And he still has to say yes,” Izuku chuckled lightly.
“I don’t see why he wouldn’t. You’re already way out of his league,” Todoroki replied before sipping his tea.
“Todoroki,” Izuku whined playfully.
“I still don’t understand how someone can be so aggressive and angry in one second, and a big puppy in the next,” Tsu questioned, scratching inquisitively at the back of her neck.
“He’s always a big teddy bear he just hides it under all that frowning.”
“So, we’re going to help you pick out a ring right?”
It took Katsuki several different stores before he found a ring he decided was worthy enough of his partner. It also took that long because his self proclaimed ‘chaperone’ kept nixing his picks. Mina was determined to make sure he picked out the perfect ring, because apparently he couldn’t do it himself. The idea was ludicrous, his parents were fucking designers, he literally grew up in the fashion world. He allowed it though, and she did end up being helpful to some degree. In the end he chose a flat cut silver band with a few small stones. Nothing too flashy, Izuku wouldn’t want something that eccentric. Now Katsuki just had to figure out what to say when he asked him.
Izuku had more trouble than he would have thought picking out a ring. Fashion was by no means his expertise, he still lived in shorts and T-shirts when given the chance. So he enlisted the help of three of his friends, two of which had already gone through the ring picking process themselves. Armed with Tsu, Uraraka, and Todoroki, he spent hours sorting through to find something suited for his fiery lover. It was Todoroki who spotted the ring, but Izuku knew upon seeing it that it was perfect. A flat tungsten band, solid black with a ring of black gemstones. Perfectly suited for the hothead. Now to find the right time to ask.
“We could take pictures though! Imagine the look of surprise on his face! We could capture it forever Bakugou!” Mina insisted as Bakugou sneered through the group phone call.
“I don’t trust you idiots anywhere close by. You’ll find so way to fuck it up.”
“Oh come on! No we won’t!” Kamiari insisted.
“No, you fuckers stay away!”
“Fine fine, cool your jets bro. Just let us know how it goes afterwards, okay?” Kirishima cut in, silencing the other two.
“Aw but I-”
“Bye Bakugou!”
The telltale ping signified the end of the call and Katsuki let his hands unfurl. Izuku would be home from dropping off Haruki soon, leaving time for the two of them to go out like he had planned. It was time.
“Okay you can do this,” Izuku whispered to himself from his seat on the train. Once Katsuki had thrown up the idea of getting access to one of the old training facilities on campus for a good spar, Izuku knew it was the perfect opportunity for his proposal. Yueii changed them both so much it was a great place to take the next step in their lives. It was where they had finally realized their feelings for each other weren’t just about besting the other, although that rivalry was still very much alive, it just spilled into other aspects of their lives now too. It was also the place where their son was born, literally. Once Izuku got back to their home he had to physically restrain himself from calling the night off and jumping Katsuki’s bones the second he saw him because the blonde had dressed in probably the tightest workout clothes he owned.
Focus
There’ll be plenty of time for that later
Hopefully
“You ready?” Katsuki asked as Izuku stared blatantly at his uncovered arms.
“Mmmhmm. I mean y-yeah!”
Katsuki smirked to himself and playfully smacked his boyfriend on the ass as they turned to leave.
“Kacchan!”
“What you’re allowed to eye the goods but I’m not allowed to touch them?”
Izuku blushed, trying to find some way to reply to THAT but left, not for the first time when it came to Katsuki, with nothing to say.
“Let’s go.”
It was Mina who first realized they might have a problem on their hands.
Firmly planted behind a secluded area a short distance from where Katsuki and Izuku were wiping the floor with each other, she, Kamiari, and Kirishima were shocked when suddenly Uraraka, Todoroki, Tsu, and Iida appeared, attempting to hide in the same place.
“What are you guys doing here!” Uraraka whispered, keeping her friends in her peripheral vision.
“What are we doing here? What are you doing here! Did Bakugou tell you too?”
“Tell us what?” Iida questioned before they all had to duck when a stray blast nearly took a few heads off.
“About the proposal!”
“Wait, Bakugou knows about the proposal?” Todoroki asked puzzled as he froze the small piece of rubble nearby that had caught fire.
“Of course he knows how else would he-”
“Oh no,” Mina said, cutting off Kirishima.
“Is Baku-chan proposing to Deku?” Tsu asked with wide eyes.
“Yeah that’s why we’re here,” Kaminari replied rolling his eyes, “Duh,”
“Yeah well that’s why we’re here too. Only because Midoriya was planning to propose to Bakugou .”
“Oh shit,” Kirishima replied eloquently.
“Okay,” Izuku said, panting as he wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead, “Lets-let's call it for now.”
“What? You admit-admitting defeat Deku?” Katsuki huffed out back, signature shit-eating grin on his face.
“No way!” Izuku replied as he leaned over to grab his water bottle, taking a long drink from it.
“-Just trying to be considerate Kacchan, you were - looking a little dehydrated.”
“Mmhmm,” Katsuki agreed sarcastically, beginning to chug some of his own water.
“God, that was fucking amazing. None of the villains recently have put up a very good fight,” Katsuki said, dropping the bottle back onto the ground.
“So you’re admitting I gave you a run for your money huh?” Izuku remarked with a smirk. Katsuki returned the expression and quickly reached behind the other, gripping the small of his back and pulling him closer.
“You’re the only one who ever has.”
Okay
Perfect moment
Don’t be a pussy
Katsuki opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by his boyfriend.
“I love you Kacchan. You know that?”
“Course, you wouldn’t deal with my shit if you didn’t.”
“Well you got me there. I just, I really care about you. You push me to be better, help me to be better. You’re always pushing yourself too. Always fighting to be the best in everything whether it be hero work, being a father, or being a good partner. I’ve always admired that about you.”
"What's with all the lovey dovey stuff"
"Well I just, I love you a lot, and we've been through a lot together and well- I want to keep going through stuff with you."
"Wait a minute,"
Izuku took a deep breath for a moment.
"Katsuki will you-"
"No!"
Izuku tensed with the yell, his heart stopped and his breathing halted. The sudden shout startled everyone in the vicinity, causing the group of onlookers to cringe harshly.
“Shit this is going south!” Mina said helplessly.
“Should we do something?” Todoroki asked.
“No wait, look,” Uraraka replied, never taking her eyes off of the scene unfolding before her.
"Wh-wgat? But I didn't-" Izuku stuttered a moment.
"No I'm supposed to ask you!"
Katsuki let go of Izuku and put his hands in his hair with frustration and shock.
"I spent all this time planning the perfect god damn speech and shit and making sure we were somewhere special and even bought this fucking ring all because I'm supposed to ask you!"
Izuku stared blankly at the blonde for a moment before he felt the horrible tension leave his body.
"Kacchan are you trying to propose?"
Red eyes bore into green ones before Katsuki replied with a huff and snatched his drawstring off the ground, pulling it open roughly. He dug around for only a moment before tossing it aside and opening the box he had pulled from it. Izuku’s eyes went wide at the ring and he covered his mouth with a gasp.
Izuku’s body began to shake and for a moment Katsuki was sure he had started crying. Until the asshole had the audacity to drop his hands to his knees and double over with laughter .
"What the hell Deku! Why the fuck are you laughing you damn-"
Izuku stuffed his hand into his pocket and pulled out his own ring, shimmering in the sunlight.
"I was going to ask you too."
Katsuki eyed the ring in Izuku’s hand for a moment, still stunned by this course of events. The grin never left Izuku’s face as Katsuki made a split second decision and grabbed the other’s hand abruptly.
Katsuki slid the ring on Izuku’s finger, making sure it was settled properly before pulling away and turning his head to hide the redness spreading over his face. He offered his hand to Izuku as well. The smile Izuku bore was blinding as he took his now fiance’s hand and slipped the ring onto his as well. He then laced their fingers together before using his free hand to turn Katsuki’s face back towards him and moving in to place a not so gentle kiss on his lips.
“THAT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOD.”
Katsuki’s head whipped towards the sound, fire burning in his eyes. He caught sight of all the idiots now cheering like a loser fucking peanut gallery and nearly imploded in fury. Kamiari blubbered like a baby while Mina groaned as he dripped snot on her jacket. Kirishima grinned like a moron while Izuku’s friend’s smiled like normal human beings and showed varying degrees of excitement.
"YOU IDIOTS WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO COME TO DAMN IT,” Katsuki shouted as Izuku blushed at the thought that all their friends had witnessed the entire interaction.
“I told you guys it would be fine, you didn’t need to come!”
“But the video I took will go over great at the wedding reception!" Uraraka cheered back.
Katsuki stomped a foot in their directions but was halted from committing homicide by Izuku’s hand gently creeping onto his shoulder.
“Let them be, we have more important business to attend to. I forgot to mention, my mom is keeping Haru overnight,” he whispered from behind the blonde and into his ear.
Katsuki remained silent for a moment before he grabbed Izuku’s hand and began to pull him in the direction of the exit.
“Kacchan our bags!”
“We’ll get new ones”
“My wallet is in that!”
“Hey where are you guys headed in such a rush! You’re supposed to wait until after the wedding to christen the-”
Katsuki raised a hand and blasted a hole through the tree directly in front of the offending redhead, startling all of the onlookers.
“Another word and that’ll be your head, shitty hair.”
“Kacchan come on we have the whole night, play nice,” Izuku insisted.
“I don’t play nice.”
“You do when I ask. Or do I have to make it an order?”
There was a pregnant pause before Katsuki jogged back over to their bags, stuffing the water bottles back in and throwing them over his shoulder. He then took off in the direction he came once more, pushing Izuku forward.
“We’re leaving now,” the fiery man declared as he drug his fiance away.
“We’ll see you for brunch on Sunday!” Izuku called his out to friends as he tried to keep up with Katsuki’s hurried pace.
“They’re definitely going home to fu-”
“Shut it Denki.”
