i like your friends

Summary:

Hoseok heard a loud slam next to him and turned to find Jimin sitting at their wooden bench, hands flat against the table. His eyes looked maniacal as he stated, "I bring tea."

Seokjin sighed, head still on Namjoon's shoulder. "Jimin, you need to stop acting like a high school freshman."

"Hey, wearing scrunchies on my wrist and using the word 'tea' does not mean I act like a freshman," Jimin said, pointing his finger at Seokjin.

Hoseok chuckled and stabbed his salad again. "Uh, yeah, it kinda does."

Work Text:

"Someone said that Dr. Choi is going to be in the dunk tank this year."

"Wait- is he the teacher who switched classrooms with Mrs. Jung?"

"Dunno," Hoseok answered, stabbing his salad with his plastic fork.

"Yeah, he is," Namjoon stated, finally entering the conversation between the two. "Hobi, why'd you even bring a salad? There's food here."

"It's all junk. I have a game after this, I can't be eating a bunch of shit before I go and play tennis in this heat for three hours."

Seokjin set down his finished ramyeon bowl and leaned his head onto Namjoon's shoulder. "Joon-ah, will you stop looking at that damned phone? It's the summer social, we're  supposed  to be social."

"Can't, handsome. I'm waiting for Hyojin to e-mail me the final project so I can turn it in." Namjoon leaned his head against Seokjin's, both of their eyes on Namjoon's phone. The position looked so intimate and sweet, Hoseok was surprised they still weren't dating.

"Shut up. Anyway, you know my friend Choi Soobin?"

"The bunny one?" Hoseok asked, mouth full of lettuce.

"Yeah, him. So he texted me, like, half an hour ago and was like 'hey Jimin-ssi I just saw Jeon Jeongguk-ssi walking to the social' and I was like 'okay and?' and he was like-"

"Jimin, can you maybe stop saying 'like' every 5 seconds?" Namjoon said, eyes looking up from his phone.

Jimin sighed. "Is it bully Jimin day or something? Basically, Soobin-ah saw Jeongguk walking to the social and apparently he had someone with him?"

Hoseok finished up his salad and placed his waste under Seokjin's. "Who did he have with him?"

"That's it- he had no clue who it was. Apparently, he looked like the opposite of Jeongguk too. All bright colors and shit."

"Wait, Jeon Jeongguk as in my lab partner Jeon Jeongguk?" Namjoon asked.

Jimin shrugged. "Does he wear all black and acts shy?"

"Yeah, that's him. He's in Yoongi and I's songwriting class, too. Advanced enough to get into the one for seniors as a junior. " Namjoon finally put his phone down, opting to wrap his arm around Seokjin's shoulder instead.

Hoseok looked around. "Where even is Yoongi anyway? Didn't he drive you here, Jimin-ah?"

"Ah yes," Jimin said, an evil smirk rising onto his face. "He's on a mission for me."

Namjoon shot Jimin a suspicious look. "A 'mission', you say?"

"Let's face it," Seokjin said, leaning into Namjoon's embrace and cuddling into his chest, "those two are so whipped for each other Yoongi could be out murdering someone for this little snake."

"They're not the only ones who are whipped for each other," Hoseok muttered loud enough so only Jimin could hear. Jimin laughed loudly, causing the two in question to send glances his way.

Hoseok saw Yoongi finally walking up to their table with a dejected look on his face. Yoongi simply sat down next to Jimin with no greeting.

"You good there, hyung?" Namjoon asked.

Jimin sighed. "You lost, didn't you."

Yoongi erupted into a loud tangent that, frankly, Hoseok didn't ask for. "I didn't just lose  once.  I lost  three fucking times  to three  separate  freshmen! It would have saved my ego if we just would have  bought a cake on the way home-"

Hoseok started shaking with laughter. "Oh my god, Jimin, you made him do the cakewalk?" Seokjin was laughing, too, and their combined laughter caused Yoongi to hide his face in his hands.

Jimin, who had to cover up his giggles, was comforting his sullen boyfriend, wrapping his arm around him and giving him tiny kisses. "I just wanted to be a good boyfriend," Yoongi whined, face still in his hands.

"And you are, hyung," Jimin replied, kissing Yoongi on what he could reach of his cheek.

"Ew," Hoseok said, "No PDA within a ten-mile radius of me, thanks."

Seokjin huffed. "Thanks for making me feel single, guys." Hoseok rolled his eyes but noticed that Namjoon's hold on Seokjin's shoulder shifted to a grip on his waist. He once again wondered how they still weren't dating.

"So why'd you mention Jeongguk-ah, Jimin-ah?" Namjoon asked.

Jimin tangled one of Yoongi's hands in his so he couldn't hide any longer. "I need to know who the dude is. I know, like, everyone in the school- but not him."

"Maybe he doesn't go to this school," Hoseok added.

"Valid point, hyung," Namjoon said. "Jeongguk-ah does taekwondo outside of school. Maybe the dude is one of his friends from his class?"

Yoongi nodded along with Namjoon's statement. Jimin pulled out his phone and shrugged, a quiet falling over the group.

Well, that was until Hoseok spotted two boys walking over the hill to the party area. One, dressed in light blue, was dragging the other, dressed in all black. How he was alive in this heat, he may never know.

Hoseok elbowed Jimin in the side and pointed to the two students. "Is that the Jeongguk guy you were talking about?"

Jimin's eyes opened wide and he kicked Namjoon in the shin, jostling both him and Seokjin. "Ow! What was that for?" Namjoon said, regaining his grip on Seokjin's waist.

Jimin gestured to the two with his head. "That's Jeongguk, you dumbass. Invite him over!"

Seokjin and Hoseok chuckled at the two's antics. Namjoon glanced at Seokjin's smiling face and rolled his eyes, giving in to Jimin's request.  Whipped.

Namjoon waited until Jeongguk was dragged close enough to their table. "Jeongguk-ah!" he shouted, "Join us!"

Jeongguk's head turned quickly to their direction and the boy in blue stopped dragging him. The two seemed to talk briefly before Jeongguk was pushed towards their table. Namjoon laughed as he waved to two over.

As they got closer, Hoseok could make out the stranger's features better. His face was unique in the most beautiful way, with a sharp jaw and mismatched eyelids. His lips formed a heart shape, and his hair was dyed a light pink.

Finally close enough to speak to them, Jeongguk mumbled, "Hi hyung." The two sat down next to Namjoon, the unknown boy holding tightly onto Jeongguk's arm. Jeongguk seemed to recognize Yoongi as well and shyly waved at him.

Namjoon leaned closer to Seokjin, positioning himself to face Jeongguk diagonally. "Hey, Jeongguk-ah. Who's this?"

"Oh, um," Jeongguk turned, prompting the boy to speak for himself.

"I'm Taehyung," he said with a surprisingly low voice. "I know Koo from taekwondo!" Hoseok kicked Jimin in the foot, his glare saying  told you so.

Seokjin quirked his eyebrow. "Koo?"

Hoseok laughed. "That's so cute," he said, watching as Jeongguk's cheeks flared bright red. "Are you two dating?" Hoseok joked. Jimin fake-gasped at Hoseok's boldness.

Taehyung smiled, leaning into Jeongguk's personal space. "Well..."

Jeongguk seemed to have an internal conflict before huffing and hanging his head low. "Fine, do it."

"What's going on here?" Jimin said, gesturing between the two with his pointer finger.

Taehyung's eyes stuck to Jimin's wrist. "Hey, can I borrow a couple of those scrunchies?"

"Sure, I guess." Jimin took off two of his hair ties and handed them to Taehyung, immediately turning to Yoongi and saying, "I told you those would come in handy one day."

Yoongi rolled his eyes. "I still find it pointless that you have them when you don't have long enough hair to even use them."

Confusion spread over Namjoon's face while Taehyung stood up and started gathering together half of Jeongguk's hair. "Wait, really, what's going on?"

"Yeah," Hoseok added, "I was just joking about the dating thing."

Jeongguk sighed, avoiding eye contact with the group. "Taehyung and I made a deal that he would go on a date with me- but only if he gets to do my hair in public." Jeongguk looked up, trying his hardest to see Taehyung without moving his head. "What are you even doing to my hair?"

Taehyung giggled. "Space buns!"

"Oh my god," Jimin cooed, "you two are too fucking adorable. Yoongi, why didn't you ever do cute shit like that for me?"

"You're forgetting that entire mixtape he wrote for you," Hoseok said, pulling out his phone to capture Taehyung and Jeongguk's cuteness.

"And how he hacked the school's intercom to ask you to prom junior year," Namjoon added.

"Or like how he just sacrificed his ego to win you a cake," Seokjin said.

"Woah," Taehyung gasped, tying a bun into Jeongguk's hair, "Sorry, I have no clue what your name is, but you have a pretty amazing boyfriend.”

Jimin turned to Yoongi, a warm smile on his face. "Yeah, I think I do," he said before kissing him straight on the lips. This caused Hoseok and Seokjin to make many loud noises, including shouts and fake gagging.

While all of this was happening, Taehyung had finished his masterpiece. He finally sat down next to Jeongguk again. "I like your friends," he stated, resting his head on Jeongguk's shoulder.

Jeongguk chuckled as Seokjin covered Namjoon's eyes from the couple making out in front of him. "I don't claim them."

Taehyung turned his head, lips grazing over Jeongguk's cheek. "Where are you taking me on our date, pretty boy?"

Jeongguk scrunched his eyes closed, thinking deeply. "Where do you want to go?" he asked.

"Anywhere with you."

"You fine with going to a landfill then?"

"How about we hang out like usual, except this time, I get to kiss you."

Jeongguk exhaled breathily. "I'd like that."

Taehyung finally planted a soft kiss on Jeongguk's cheek. "Then it's a date, Ggukie."
