Chapter Text
In a quite a pitiful manner, the Boss of the Port Mafia jerks up from his sleep, covered in sweat. It’s another one of those dreams, and ever since those rumours started cropping up, they’ve become more frequent. The old Boss coming back from the dead to repay the bloody favour. He glides his fingers over his neck as if making sure it’s still there, intact.
The moonlight is faint, but he can resemble the time on the grandfather clock standing in the corner of the room. It’s just a little past three in the morning. Witching hour. He has barely gotten a few winks of sleep.
Elise is already by his side, as she always appears when he feels threatened.
“Another nightmare?”
“...Yes. But I really need to get some more rest. Restlessness isn’t a good state to be making important decisions in.”
She is quick on her feet to fetch what he needs, but just to make sure, she turns: “I’m guessing you want your stupid Mondscheinsonate again.”
Mori rubs his temples. “Ja genau, meine Schöne. Das Duett, bitte.”
“You know, it would sound far better if I just played it on the piano. I don’t know why you insist on listening to these old recordings.”
“Of course, but would you be able to play the violin part as well?”
“If you willed me into having four arms like you will me into doing everything else for you, I most definitely could, senile Rintarou.”
He chuckles weakly. “I think seeing the silhouette of a little girl with two limbs too many playing Beethoven in the dark would be a bit of a disquieting scene for me, as I am now.”
Rising slightly to pinch her cheek, he continues: “But I’m sure you would make a wonderful one-man duo otherwise, Elise-chan.”
She recoils, sticks her tongue out and goes to grab the composition he requested from the shelf. Despite the absence of light she knows exactly where to look for it and retrieves it swiftly, then places it on the turntable.
The antique gramophone is wound - albeit with a bit of creaking - after the needle is placed on the record. The first few notes of the Moonlight Sonata play and bit by bit, Mori is at peace again. He lays back down, crossing his hands over his chest.
And so, for a while, she continues rotating the crank carefully so as to avoid making any jarring noises. His breathing is steady once more, breaths coming in longer intervals.
“I much prefer Für Elise, but apparently that one isn’t calming enough.” She whispers to herself as the man finally falls asleep and she dissipates into thin air.
