Work Text:

“Let’s break up.”

Jungkook blurts out the words and catches himself off guard with the blunt statement. He sits at a cafe across his boyfriend—well now ex-boyfriend—Min Yoongi who continues to casually drink his morning Iced Americano. Yoongi stays put, unfazed and Jungkook cannot see even a hint of hesitation or slight reaction to his words.

“No,” Yoongi replies steadily. “that’s ok.”

“What?”

“No,” Yoongi repeats himself, but he’s looking up at Jungkook this time, serious and still unfazed. “we’re not breaking up.”

“That’s not how break ups work, Yoongi.”

“Look, Jungkook, can you do me a favor tomorrow?” Yoongi asks.

“Yoongi, I’m trying to—“

“Please?” Yoongi ignores Jungkook’s plead but even though he’s trying to end a relationship that he believes is dying, he listens to Yoongi anyway.

“What is it?”

“Be ready tomorrow morning, I’m taking you out.”

Jungkook wakes up the next morning with slight anxiousness. It’s seven in the morning and he cannot fall back asleep so easily. Yoongi had asked him to be ready by ten and to meet him in front of their university bookstore. Jungkook is two hours too early to dress up and three hours too introspective to be dealing with his conflicting emotions. He lies awake in bed, staring at the ceiling and reminding himself that him and Yoongi are still together (he guesses.)

When it’s time to meet, Jungkook is ten minutes early and feels the weight of his eye bags drooping out of sheer exhaustion. He takes long strides and looks like any normal college student except for the fact that his boyfriend—was supposed to be exes—wants to meet up.

Yoongi is already patiently waiting at the front, hands in pocket and gaze listless as always.

And Jungkook doesn’t have to call out to Yoongi, no, because he locks eyes with Jungkook when he’s close enough to call out too. His eyes scrunch up into crescents and smiles so brightly Jungkook feels the wind push him back. He stops walking and Yoongi turns his whole body to Jungkook and him only.

“You’re early,” Yoongi says.

“I could say the same for you,” Jungkook retorts, but he knows Yoongi is always early. He’s never, ever been late for a date.

“I wanted to see you,” Yoongi responds without much thought, “but I guess you wouldn’t know, huh.”

Jungkook raises a brow. “I wouldn’t?”

“I mean seeing that you want to break up with me so bad,” Yoongi twirls around before he can see the younger man's reaction, already off on foot to the other direction. “Come on, I’m hungry, Kook.”

Jungkook chases after him until he falls in step with him.

There’s something about Yoongi that seems different than Jungkook is used too.

Yoongi is a man of calmness, his nature subdued if you don’t know him that well. Jungkook has always found that part of him charming. Being elusive when it came to his work that exudes the opposite to the effort he actually puts, powerful and passionate. Yoongi has always told Jungkook that he’s never wanted to be in the limelight, more so a supportive role when it comes to contributing to the world of music.

So what does Jungkook do?

He makes Yoongi the main character in his life.

And he seems to be taking the role a lot more seriously today. He catches Yoongi staring at him even though they’re walking forward. He smiles and Jungkook can only stare ahead of him.

They’re seated towards the back of the restaurant Yoongi has taken him too. It’s not too busy, they found a table right away, but from the interior and atmosphere the place is homey, warm, and intimate in the best possible way. What Jungkook means is it’s almost as if anyone who walks in here knows each other, no faces to disregard or ignore, just chatter and openness that you don’t make friends here, you’re already friends with everyone the minute you stepped inside.

“I’ve always wanted to try this place,” Yoongi eyes the menu and Jungkook hides his snicker seeing him practically drool over the pictures. “it’s close to campus and it’s pretty cheap and especially looks delicious.”

“I’ve never heard of this place, it was in such a random area too,” Jungkook drags a finger down the menu with curiosity.

“Right? But it’s nice and I’m glad I could finally come here,” Yoongi admits, “plus I heard their pastries are delicious, made fresh everyday.”

“They look really good.”

They order when the waitress comes, gives them their complimentary coffee, and continue to wait in silence.

“Hyung, we should talk.”

Yoongi hums, “About what?”

Jungkook sighs, “You know.”

“If it’s about breaking up with me then good luck with that buddy,” Yoongi takes a sip of his coffee, “you’re mine.”

He does not want to deal with this so early in the morning. “That’s not how break up works.”

“Not my break up,” Yoongi crosses his arms, stays utterly composed. Jungkook’s word having no effect on him whatsoever.

The waitress comes back faster than anticipated and places their orders down quickly.

Yoongi dives in first into his meal as Jungkook goes lax in his seat. He watches Yoongi eat quietly, almost endearing the way Yoongi chews like Jungkook has never seen it before, which is weird because he’s eaten out with his boyfriend on so many occasions. Yoongi has a habit of taking big bites so Jungkook watches on as he finishes his croissant sandwich in a matter of five humongous bites.

“Jungkook, try this,” Yoongi hands him the last piece of his sandwich over to him, “it’s delicious.”

“I’m ok,” Jungkook dismisses it.

“Jungkook, trust me,” Yoongi keeps insisting, and knowing Yoongi won’t back down, reaches over to take it, but Yoongi pulls his hand back. Jungkook glares at him. “You eat from my hand.”

“You’re kidding,” Jungkook knows—see’s Yoongi’s being serious. And he’s not moving an inch so Jungkook leans in and takes the last bite from Yoongi’s hand. Jungkook’s urge to be annoyed at Yoongi fades fast because his sandwich was definitely delicious and it’s hard to bite back the elation on his face.

“I see you smiling,” Yoongi smirks, “admit it, Kook.”

“Shut up.”

The next day, Jungkook walks out of class and what he does not expect is Yoongi to be waiting for him outside.

“Hyung, what are you doing here?”

“Today is really nice,” Yoongi is smiling, “good time for ice cream.”

“Ice cream?”

“Yes.”

Jungkook would have denied the implied invite, but the minute he stepped out of his classroom, the sun was scorching down on him and despite him ignoring the weather forecast calling out high temperatures, Jungkook still wore all black. Yoongi is the same way too because they’re both dressed in one sunlight absorbing color from head to toe and they’re both sweating profusely inside said outfit.

“Hyung, should we go get ice cream?”

“Oh, you want to go together, sure,” Yoongi says in a monotone voice, fully expecting Jungkook to ask him instead of him, “I know a place let's go.”

Jungkook rolls his eyes at Yoongi’s response but lets the older man grab him by the wrist anyway and pull him to the ice cream parlor located across the street.

When they get inside, it’s crowded and the line is longer than normal. It seems like everyone and their mothers are inside this one ice cream parlor together and Jungkook almost suggest some other place, but doesn’t. He knows Yoongi likes this place specifically because they carry his favorite red bean ice cream so he doesn’t say a word when they wait outside for a good ten minutes in line. And then another ten minutes when they get into the line inside the shop.

“I’m going to get three scoops,” Yoongi salivates at the thought, “maybe four if I’m feeling wild.”

“Hyung, you’ve bought a whole tub of it and ate it in front of me before.”

“Then I guess I shall eat two tubs.”

Jungkook snickers and Yoongi smiles back at him.

When they reach the front of the line and the worker behind the counter asks, “what would you like?”

“Red bean, three scoops,” is Yoongi’s immediate answer.

“I’m sorry, sir. We actually ran out of red bean today.”

And Jungkook, turns slowly to Yoongi and he sees it so clearly—Yoongi’s peak devastation face. He’s pouting, he’s really pouting at the worker behind the counter and they grow more confused the longer Yoongi doesn’t respond to them. His eyebrows, furrowed, lip jutting out and cheeks, very round. He’s seen this face so many times and he can’t get enough of it. So Jungkook laughs out loud because Yoongi’s face is priceless and to get the workers attention.

“Just get him two scoops vanilla instead, please,” Jungkook steps in between them, “and I’ll have the same.”

The worker quickly gets their orders out and Yoongi sneakily, even though Jungkook was ready with his card out in hand, pays for the ice cream. They leave the ice cream parlor and it’s Jungkook’s turn to grab Yoongi’s wrist.

“Where are we going?” Yoongi asks.

“My apartment, I have left over red bean still.”

“And we still bought vanilla?”

“I know you like mixing them together.” Because Jungkook knows Yoongi likes Samanco and mixing the two remind him of that. Jungkook knows, there’s a lot of things he knows about Yoongi, just like Yoongi knows him.

“And you’re ok inviting me when you want to break up with me?” Yoongi has a teasing tone to his question.

Jungkook stops mid step and turns around to look at Yoongi. “Maybe if you let me break up with you.”

“Not going to happen.”

“Then, you’re coming over,” Jungkook tugs him again and they’re back on track to his apartment. “but all we’re doing is eating ice cream, nothing more.”

“Tsk, stingy.”

“You made that depressed face at the parlor, there’s no way I wouldn’t feel bad for a child.”

“You’re calling me a child?!”

Yoongi invites Jungkook over to his apartment to watch a movie and Jungkook wants to refuse, but he’s tempted when Yoongi tells him that it’s a scary movie he’s been dying to see recently. So what can Jungkook say, no? (“You can say no, what the fuck? I thought you wanted to break up with him,” Taehyung sits on the couch, confused because Jungkook, lover of Overwatch is ditching his ranked partner and best friend, Kim Taehyung, for a boy whose relationship he wants to end.)

So Jungkook arrives, dressed down because he’s not trying to impress Yoongi at all, no way. He’s here to watch a movie and nothing more. (“Then why did you tell me not to wait up for you tonight? The movie is literally less than three hours. It’s only six, how long do you plan on staying there,” Taehyung, mildly annoyed because Jungkook won’t admit he still loves Yoongi.)

Jungkook knocks on his door and when Yoongi opens it, Jungkook is ready to throw himself and this whole apartment complex out into the ocean.

Yoongi is dressed down in a white t-shirt and kumamon pajama pants and matching kumamon slippers. What sets him off the most though is the messy locks that stick up in all directions. He knows Yoongi has just recently taken a nap and he knows, Jungkook knows that Yoongi knows this look is one of Jungkook’s biggest weaknesses. A tired, sleepy Yoongi means he wants to cuddle and Jungkook isn’t sure how to handle this, it’s a powerful move.

“Yo, we’re going to watch in the living room if that’s cool.”

“That’s fine with me.”

Jungkook steps into the apartment and seats himself at the couch. Yoongi has the movie set up already and seats himself close to Jungkook, but barely touching him. He’s too hyper aware of the closeness and when he peeks at Yoongi, he seems unbothered, casually pressing play to the remote as the movie plays before them.

After a few minutes, Jungkook stops paying attention to Yoongi and immerses himself into the movie. It’s scary, but Jungkook loves scary and he’s glad he came over to watch it. Yoongi is one of the few people he can watch scary movies with because he stays just as calm as he does when he watches them.

By the end of the movie, Jungkook is satisfied. He’s been sitting in the same position for so long, he didn’t even realize how stationery he held himself. His arm goes up to stretch but one arm doesn't and that's when he looks over to his side to find Yoongi laying against that side with his cheek resting on Jungkook’s shoulder. When and how he got there isn’t a surprise to Jungkook because Yoongi does it all the time when they watch a movie so he doesn’t budge him, doesn’t make any indication that Jungkook wants to stretch that arm.

“Do you need to head home now?” Yoongi asks when the credits roll. Jungkook can feel the vibrations of Yoongi’s words against his shoulder and it’s nice.

“No,” Jungkook lies because he promised Taehyung he’d play Overwatch with him tonight, that he would go home early.

“Do you wanna listen to music?”

“I do.”

So Yoongi put on music. He switches from DVD mode to Youtube that’s connected to his smart tv. Yoongi put on his playlist called “jk” and it’s all of his favorite songs. They sit together, listening, relaxing. It’s nice, calming, and Jungkook can stay like this for hours, days. He’s done it before.

Yoongi starts to hum along to a song and catches Jungkook off guard, but only slightly.

“Hyung, do you like IU now?”

“You play her so much it just stuck.”

“Just admit it.”

“Don’t know what you’re talking about, Jungkook.”

Jungkook laughs, and they settle back into their quietness, their detached from the world atmosphere and just enjoy each other being so comfortable together. Yoongi slips his hand down Jungkook’s arm and he knows what Yoongi wants. His fingers are hesitant, but Jungkook interlaces them like normal, pulling Yoongi just a little bit closer to him if possible. In Jungkook’s case, it’s always possible to be closer to Yoongi.

“I'll miss this when we break up.”

“But you won’t miss it, it’ll always be here.” Yoongi whispers.

And Jungkook arrives home at five in the morning to an angry Taehyung and a three hour class at eight in the morning.

It’s Jungkook who goes to Yoongi first.

Jungkook is at Yoongi’s apartment on a Sunday afternoon. He’s always home around this time and his roommate isn’t so Yoongi is usually up to do anything around this time.

But when Jungkook knocks and no one answers the door right away, he wonders if he was actually mistaken. It takes five minutes longer for the door to open and Jungkook’s smile hurts from holding in his laughter when he finally sees him.

Yoongi, fidgety and nervous, opens the door with a towel over his head and a frown that regret a lot of things he’s done today.

“Jungkook, you’re here,” Yoongi avoids looking Jungkook in the eyes, like oh, he knows what he did. “of course you would come over around this time when I do something like this.”

“Hyung,” Jungkook is grinning, hard. “did you dye your hair by yourself?”

“It was cheap, the dye was on sale.”

“What color did you want it?”

“It was supposed to be red.”

“So it’s not red?!”

Yoongi doesn’t answer.

“Let me in, hyung. Let me see.”

Jungkook steps into the apartment and sits on the couch. Yoongi has a contemplative look, he paces around before Jungkook, stalling the reveal of his precious self done locks.

“Making me wait isn’t going to help, hyung.”

“Fine,” And Yoongi pulls the towel off his head and Jungkook tears up.

It’s splotchy, it’s done so sloppy and only parts of his hair is dyed—dyed a highlighter orange. It’s white in a lot of areas but it’s spotted orange and Yoongi knows he’s fucked up on his dye. It’s his first time and he’s underestimated the process of dying his hair for the sake of being financially economical.

“Don’t laugh,” Yoongi glares and demands with a, “tell me what you think.”

“Serious?” Jungkook shakes his head, “as much as I know you want to be called cute, it’s terrible, hyung. Awful.”

“I, yeah, I know,” Yoongi admits defeat and deflates next to Jungkook on the couch.

“We need to go to the salon.”

“Can’t, don’t get paid until Friday.”

“Who said you were paying.”

“You are not paying for my fuck up.”

But Jungkook does anyway because he drags a reluctant Yoongi out of his apartment, hat covering his disaster of a mess after annoying him for one whole hour about the pandemic horrifying results that were to come between now and Friday if he didn’t deal with the dilemma now. Examples such as Yoongi’s presentation on Structure design of European Gothic Cathedrals due tomorrow where his professor will most definitely make him take off his hat. He wants nothing to do with the ridicule and back handed shit talk that's to come during his eight minute speech. So he gives in to Jungkook’s pressure and accepts his money for now with promises to pay him back.

In Jungkook’s opinion, the only perk he has for paying for Yoongi’s redye is him choosing the color. This makes him nervous, but Jungkook reassures him he won’t do anything dramatic.

Jungkook waits patiently on his phone, waiting for Yoongi to finish. After a few hours in one place, Yoongi steps out of the salon with a giddy Jungkook trailing behind.

“It looks really good on you, hyung.”

“Never thought I’d like it too, but I do.”

Jungkook asked the hairdresser to just bleach his hair and nothing else. Blonde would suit Yoongi but he knew he wouldn't go for ot unless he made him so why not take the opportunity when given.

“I wanted it mint actually.”

“You would have gone to far, Jungkook.”

“Would you break up with me if I made it mint instead?”

“You could do a lot of things to me and I’d still find a way to make it work.”

And this time, Jungkook smiles at his response.

It’s Friday and Jungkook cannot recall a day he’s spent without Yoongi. It’s day after day that Jungkook has seen Yoongi and he doesn’t mind it one bit. If it means anything, he’s actually excited to see Yoongi today.

Jungkook has just finished an important exam and immediately calls Yoongi when he gets out.

“I’ve finished, hyung.”

“Good job, kid,” Yoongi congratulates him.

“My prize is that you break up with me instead.”

“Aw, shoot,” Yoongi laughs through the phone, “I guess you can’t have anything, sorry.”

“Where are you, hyung?”

“Here.”

“What?”

Jungkook looks up from where he stands and Yoongi is waiting across the street, he waves and Jungkook runs over to him.

“You’re cheesy,” Jungkook is elated and doesn’t even try to hide his smile anymore.

“You like it,” Yoongi replies.

“No I don’t, break up with me.”

“Never,” Yoongi takes Jungkook’s hand, “let’s go, I’m treating you out.”

Yoongi takes him to their favorite place, a lamb skewer booth at the night market. They settle into seats at the crowded booth and order right away because they know exactly what they want. It’s delicious, but it’s always delicious when Jungkook eats here with someone else—eats here with Yoongi.

“Why do you want to break up, Jungkook?” Yoongi asks suddenly, Jungkook mid bite into his skewer.

He swallows and turns to Yoongi, “Because I’m not sure anymore.”

“You’re not sure?”

“Being with you, I don’t know how it feels. I feel lost, hyung,” Jungkook has to think, has to remember to last week, “trust me, you were never the problem.”

“Well,” Yoongi is quiet, but his stillness gives no affect. “how do you feel right now?”

“Honestly,” Jungkook palms sweat and he doesn’t want to look at Yoongi, but he has to he knows Yoongi needs this. “I’m still unsure.”

Then they eat in silence all over again, but this time there’s tension, at least from Jungkook’s side. He’s cautious of where Yoongi’s hands go, where he looks, how he’s eating, and Jungkook wants nothing more than to turn back the conversation before it all.

Breaking up with Yoongi wasn’t an easy decision. Yoongi is one of the best things that’s ever stepped into his life and graced him with a love so warm it’s hard to remember how it feels to be anywhere else but with him.

But it’s Jungkook who finds Yoongi who is about to graduate and wonders if their lives can coincide as peacefully as the present when they’ll be apart soon. Yoongi is a man with ambition and Jungkook is still figuring out the path he wants to take to a successful future. Yoongi knows what he wants and Jungkook, he isn’t sure anymore about a lot of things. It’s not just Yoongi, it’s many perspectives of life he’s still piecing together.

Running away, is that what Jungkook’s doing? It sounds right, he’s running away from his problem. What is the problem? Jungkook’s running blind, running lost and there’s something, a light at the end and he keeps running towards it because it’s enticing, warm. He wants to reach that light, it’s so close but why can’t he ever reach it.

Yoongi walks Jungkook halfway to his apartment and they stand in an empty park by their campus, dark and desolate.

“I should head back,” but Yoongi stays put.

“Me too,” Jungkook stays as well.

It’s just the two of them and Jungkook wonders how in the world he got to date an amazing man called Min Yoongi, standing right before him. This same man that knows his favorite foods to his favorite songs, will dye his hair an absurd color for fun, and will look at Jungkook likes he’s the only one that matters in the entire world and he feels like he doesn’t deserve it, any of it. It’s Jungkook who wonders what Yoongi sees in him and keeps doubting and doubting when he shouldn’t.

And he holds back, resist the way Yoongi stares at him right now, how Yoongi’s eyes dart from his eyes to his lips and they’re trembling. Jungkook has the urge to pull him, grab him by the hand and kiss him hard like they’ve never kissed before. Because Yoongi is an unexpectedly romantic man who believes all kisses are first because there’s more love in it every time they do. Jungkook’s resistance wavers, but it’s Yoongi who stops it all.

“I’m gonna go now,” Yoongi turns around, waves goodbye and walks the opposite direction.

“Ok, goodnight, hyung,” Jungkook watches him until he’s out of sight and heads back himself.

When Jungkook sees his apartment complex ahead of him, his cellphone rings.

“Get home safe, kid?” He hears when he answers.

“Of course I did, hyung,” Jungkook says, “how did you know I arrived.”

“I don’t know, lucky guess?”

“Sure you did,” Jungkook laughs.

“Hey, Jungkook?”

“Yeah, hyung.”

“Ask me again.”

“Ask what?”

“If you want to break up with me.”

Jungkook is climbing up the stairs, barely paying attention to Yoongi’s words but asks anyway, “let’s break up, hyung.”

“Ok.”

Jungkook stops climbing.

“What?”

“Let’s break up.”

“Yoongi…”

“I just wanted to let you know, but maybe you’re right.”

Jungkook doesn’t say anything.

“If that’s what you wanted, I won’t stop you. I don’t want to be selfish anymore.” And Jungkook still doesn’t respond and it’s silent on both their ends. “Goodbye, Jungkook.”

Yoongi hangs up and Jungkook has stopped functioning altogether, mind, body, and soul. And he thinks
This is what he wanted, wasn’t it? He’s numb to the words, but maybe that’s normal for most break ups. Doing it by phone was probably the best way he could think it could end because they didn’t have to deal with the tension that arises, Jungkook can barely handle it when they were together.

He continues to walk up to his apartment, slow and lethargic because the weight of his emotions are still heavy, he just has no idea what to do with them yet. Cry it out when he goes into his room? Sounds like a plan to him. He wonders if Yoongi is going through the same process too.

“Hey,” Taehyung greets him when Jungkook walk through the door and is immediately worried when he sees his expression. “you ok? Don’t look so good?”

“I’ll be fine, just tired.” It’s true, Jungkook wants to knock out forever.

“Ok, just, like, let me know if you need anything,” Taehyung pats Jungkook’s shoulder and notices his glassy eyes. “I have an early start tomorrow, but I’m going straight to your room if you need me, even for five minutes.”

“Thanks, Tae,” Jungkook is grateful.

“This was also in the mail this morning,” Taehyung hands him a letter. No address at all, just Jungkook's name written across in very familiar handwriting. “Night, Kook.”

Jungkook takes the letter into his room immediately. He rips it open, seats himself on his desk chair and reads the only page stuffed inside.

kook

you know i’ve never been good with words, at least in person. you were always the talkative one between us and i still wonder why you asked me out three years ago. you knew i was reluctant but you tried for me, for us. i wanted to do the same, but maybe my efforts weren’t as strong as yours because when you tried for me, i fell in love with you and when i tried for you, you fell out of love with me. it’s hard to take in that maybe i wasn’t good enough or maybe you’re taste has changed and that’s fine, sometimes a relationship changes because you want different things.

do you know how long it took me to fall in love with you? ten days, only ten days and my heart was yours since. everyday you spent with me i’ve realized lots of things i loved about you, you’re infectious smile when you took me out on our first date, your excited face when you ate something you liked, your laughter when i make that ‘face’ when i don’t get what i want, your singing when we listen to our playlist, your fingers when they hold my hand tight, your honesty when you really want to lie to make me feel better, your eyes when you look at me and only me, your voice when you whisper my name, your lips that wait for me to kiss you first, and finally your hug when you realized i was in love with you too. do you remember that day, i remember it like it was yesterday because you wouldn’t let me go and i didn’t too.

jungkook, i just wanted to let you know i’ve never wanted more than us to last, for a long time, and this may seem sappy, hopefully romantic, but i loved you with everything i could give but now i have to hope that the next person you love will give you that instead.

i love you jungkook and thank you for choosing me, even for only three years.

myg

Jungkook cries heavily onto the letter and his sobbing must have been loud and clear because Taehyung is in his room holding him close, rubbing his back in soothing circles.

And he’s like that for a few hours.

Because he’s realized too late.

“What, you’re kidding me.”

“Yeah, he moved out.” Jimin leans against the frame of his apartment that he once shared with Yoongi.

“Where did he move?”

“Can’t tell you,” Jimin puts a finger to his lips. “he told me not to tell you.”

“Is that why he isn’t answering my calls?” Jungkook runs a hand through his hair, “he knew we we’re going to break up yesterday.”

“Hey, you’re the one who wanted to break up with him, and now you’re looking for him,” Jimin stands his ground, gets defensive. “what the fuck are you doing, Jungkook?”

“I know,” Jungkook does and it’s ripping him apart.

“That day you mentioned about breaking up with him, I had to hear him non stop question what he did wrong, why he was never good enough,” Jimin pokes accusingly at Jungkook’s chest. “I never wanted to strangle you so much that night.”

“He did,” Jungkook wants to cry all over again.

“He did, but he made up his mind like you and now you want to break his heart again,” Jimin, sweet adorable Jimin, when he’s shaken up, he will not hold back even a bit, there’s no mercy when it comes to hurting people he loves, like Yoongi. “what are you trying to pull? He clearly did exactly what you wanted?! So why are you back?!”

“Because I fucked up, Jimin!” Jungkook isn’t worried anymore when his voice cracks or when tears spill, overflowing his pupils and he can barely see Jimin through them. His vision blurry and his face is wet but that doesn’t bother him. “I fucked up because I was scared. Yoongi’s the most important person in my life and I would never doubt him, ever. I doubted myself because I don’t know what I wanted but he was my answer, he always made sure he was my answer. I turned my back on him and he doubted himself instead and I want to apologize and tell him I’m still in love, so please, I’m begging you, Jimin, where is he.”

Jimin breaks his character and pulls Jungkook into his embrace. He cries messily into his shoulder and Jimin lets him for as long as he wants.

“I’m sorry, Jungkook,” Jimin whispers, holding Jungkook steady, “but I can’t tell you. He begged me too.”

“Figures,” Jungkook chokes out. “he would do that to me. I deserve it.”

“But Jungkook, I will tell you this,” Jimin brings Jungkook’s face up to his, an expression so serious he’s scared he might break again. “he’s waiting for you. No matter how long it takes, he’ll always be waiting for you.”

It's been a tough week for Jungkook, but he’s managing.

School is the same, work has been alright, and his everyday life has been a little boring. Overwatch isn’t as fun anymore, but he plays for Taehyung when he needs someone to queue with. He also sends Jimin an apology card and some cookies that hopefully gets him even a little bit back on his good side because he never wants to have Jimin as an enemy. So far, everything in his life right now is just there, Jungkook is just existing.

He does try to text Yoongi and like everyday since they broke up, Yoongi has not opened a single message. He wonders if he sees them or maybe he blocked Jungkook’s number. He doesn’t blame him though. Maybe he should accept that it’s not time to meet Yoongi, at least not now. He gave him space and Jungkook isn’t having any of it. He should consider taking his mind completely off Yoongi but it’s hard, he’s in love with this man and he ruined it. Oh he ruined it terribly. This must his punishment for being the stupidest man for pushing his own boyfriend away.

“You should go out,” Taehyung calls from the kitchen. “take a walk or something.”

Jungkook’s train of thought is cut off when Taehyung talks to him. He sits on the couch and eyes Taehyung bouncing around in the kitchen, probably cooking.

“Too lazy.” Jungkook slurs his words.

“Then can you just go to the store for me,” Taehyung turns to face Jungkook, pouting. “Please, for me. I’m making us a pizza and I need some parchment paper.”

“Ok, for you, sure,” Jungkook gets up because he does love pizza and Taehyung, in the order. He checks if he has his keys and wallet and heads out the door instantly.

“Thank you, Jungkookie!”

The shortest way to the store is through the park. Just a ten minute walk.

Today, a farmer’s market takes place at the park and it’s crowded, more than usual. Jungkook thinks he can weave his way through, it’s easier and faster instead of taking the long way around to the store.

Jungkook’s on the taller side so navigating through the crowded is feasible, especially if he can see over everyone's head.

What he doesn’t expect when going through the crowd is someone with a peculiar, but interesting hair color. It’s bright and obvious, especially against someone dressed in all black so his head stands out the most. They’re turned around, talking to a vendor over some produce probably.

For some reason, Jungkook just stands there, his heart starts thumping in his chest, it wants to burst because he never thought someone would dye their hair that color, it’s an oddly specific color. And there’s something stirring inside Jungkook that wants to believe it's who he thinks it is because he knows that coat anywhere, and that watch wrapped around their wrist. It has to be him, he thinks.

Then they turn around and Jungkook takes him all in, like he’s never seen a more perfect person walk back into his life once again.

Yoongi is walking towards Jungkook’s direction and when he looks up, he locks eyes with the younger man in front of him and stills just like Jungkook.

There’s uncertainty that floats between them and Jungkook wants to respect Yoongi’s space, his time that he needs. So Jungkook just stands there, waiting.

But Yoongi is weaving through the crowd, heading towards Jungkook, almost desperate to get to him and Jungkook does the same. When they reach other, Jungkook grabs his hand, making sure to lace his fingers with Yoongi’s, and leads them out of the crowd and to a less populated area of the park.

And then they slow down when they‘re somewhat alone, both boys catching their breath from running. Jungkook holds his hand tight, faces Yoongi and wants to apologize, to ask him to be his boyfriend again, to kiss and make up every bit of worry he ever gave Yoongi and erase it with better memories, of warmer days and calming nights. But he doesn’t because his mind is on one thing right now.

“You dyed it mint,” Jungkook eyes the unique color on Yoongi’s head.

“I did,” Yoongi uses his free hand to pinch a strand. “Didn’t think I would like it, but I do.”

“It’s really nice.”

“Yeah, my ex told me to do it.”

Jungkook winces at the title.

“But I don’t know, I kinda miss him,” Yoongi steps closer to Jungkook. “even if he was a big idiot for leaving me.”

“I agree,” Jungkook steps closer and leans his forehead against Yoongi’s taking in the way his eyes look up at him and they’re just so full of him and only him. “I love you so much, Yoongi,” He whispers.

“I love you always, Kook.”

Yoongi pulls Jungkook by the neck and they kiss. He slots his lips against his so perfectly and angles it just right just so he could feel more of his mouth on his. The kiss is quick and has Jungkook chasing after Yoongi’s mouth when he breaks first.

“You’re addicting, but we’re in public.” Yoongi grins.

“I don’t care, I just want you.”

“I know, but keep it down until we get to my place.”

“Oh yeah,” Jungkook raises a brow at Yoongi. “Where do you live now?”

“I actually live in the same complex as you,” Yoongi says, “just like a floor lower.”

“What, you’re kidding me! I never noticed you. I really am a terrible boyfriend.”

“No you’re not. Just confused, baby.”

“It’s like we're basically living together,” Jungkook leans his forehead on Yoongi’s shoulder. “Oh, just the thought of it is amazing.”

“Actually,” Yoongi takes both of his hand, takes Jungkook face in them and makes him look straight at him. Jungkook pouts from being removed from his happy spot. “The day you asked me to break up was the day I was going to ask you to move in with me.”

“Really?” Jungkook jumps up, ecstatic. “You want to move in together?! I want that so bad!”

Jungkook enthusiasm fades fast and Yoongi looks at him confused, waiting for him to explain.

“But Tae…”

“Oh, that,” Yoongi realizes what he means. “Jimin’s looking for a roommate and he was thinking of asking Taehyung when I moved out,” Yoongi explains, “but I didn’t get to ask you because of you know, you wanted to break up.”

“Ah,” Jungkook mentally hits himself. “lots of things would have resolved if I didn’t, you know, did what I did.”

“Baby, don’t worry. We’re here now and I’m still in love with you, ok. I told you, you’re mine.”

Jungkook’s smiling and pulls Yoongi back into a kiss and he wants to never forget the man that always finds him when he’s lost and confused, uncertain and doubtful. Because Yoongi reminds him every single time it’s him he can return home too.
