Work Text:

“eomma.. seokjin-hyung and me are getting married when we grow up, right? you said so, right?” namjoon tenderly asked.

“well namjoon-ah, you are betrothed to him. you would end up marrying him.” his eomma replied, brushing a hand through his hair.

“then why.. then why do people keep touching him? or trying to, to date him? i don’t like it. isn’t he my jagiya? shouldn’t he only be mine?” the annoyance seeps into his voice. he had been dealing with the annoying older kids that his hyung calls friends for days now. in his opinion, the only kid his hyung should be calling a friend is yoongi-hyung. he’s the only one good enough to be a friend for his seokjinnie.

his eomma laughs as she calls out to his mommy, “areumie, your son is really growing up to be an alpha!” she turns her attention back to him, saying “don’t you know your seokjin-hyung can have friends that aren’t you, namjoon-ah?”

“i don’t mind if he has other friends than me. at the end of the day, they’re not worthy of being his friend and will soon fall behind. i have no reason to worry about them,” he scoffs, “but.. i don’t like how they always wanna be near him, always touching him.. and i don’t like how he seems to like it.”

his mommy comes to talk to him and smiles gently, “you shouldn’t be thinking like that, joonie. they’re your seokjin-hyung’s precious friends. be gracious, remember who you are.” she whispers in his ear for the last sentence, “soon you’ll be able to catch up to all those kids and show them who’s really seokjin’s alpha, hm?”

namjoon nods frantically at that, not quite understanding what the words meant.

“hyungie, seokjin-hyung!” namjoon yelled. seokjin was hanging out with his friends again. yoongi-hyung wasn’t there, so he wanted to make sure that none of seokjin’s friends tried anything.

seokjin turns around, smiling brightly at namjoon. namjoon runs towards him, engulfing the older boy in a hug. seokjin giggles and hugs him just as tight.

“jagiya, can i go with you today? please?” namjoon asks.

seokjin’s eyes turn up and he opens his mouth to respond, but a kid behind him beats him to it. “seokjin-ah, do you really wanna play with a six year old like him? c'mon, we don’t have time to babysit him.” he rolls his eyes.

“eh? i can take care of myself; i don’t need my eomma to wipe my butt like you do,” he had learned that from yoongi-hyung too, “besides, it’s a no brainer i can handle myself. i am going to be seokjin hyung’s alpha, my jagiya.”

the boy’s cheeks flushed, “watch your mouth kid!” he yelled, “and there’s no way seokjin would go for a punk like you! he likes me better, right, jin?” namjoon glares at the other boy, his hyung wouldn’t like anyone more than him.

seokjin taps his chin, makes a humming noise before speaking. “joonie’s my jagiya. of course i’d like him more.” he tilts his head and glares at the boys, “but, i don’t like people who are mean to my jagiya. so, i don’t like you.” seokjin laces their fingers and pulls him away. “c’mon joonie, i wanna ask my mom if we can play at the park!”

namjoon around to stick his tongue out at the group of boys, happy to have his jinnie on his side.

seokjin frowns. he doesn’t like what he’s seeing. he had come by namjoon’s classroom because one of his and joonie’s friend, hoseok, had told him that some girl was always around his namjoon.

and he could see that hoseok was right.

a black haired girl was flocking around his jagiya, who was focused on drawing something. the girl was crowing out compliments for joonie, which he ignored. something that made jin very happy.

he enters the room, yelling a loud, “jagiya!” before waiting. namjoon’s head shoots up, scrambling to get to him. namjoon grabs the paper he was drawing on and headed to him, leaving the girl in the dust.

“jagiya. you’re here!” namjoon smiles.

“yes, i missed you.” he ducks his head into namjoon’s neck which was hard, considering he was taller. “what’s on your paper?”

“oh!” namjoon brightens, showing the paper. “it’s gonna be our house together! when we get married, i mean.”

“i love it, joonie! wow, i really want this to be our house.” seokjin eyes the girl from before, who was now in the corner, hugging herself.

he smirks.

“...what do you mean i can’t visit joonie?” seokjin asked his mother. he wanted to go to his joonie’s house to play, but his mother forbade him to go.

“darling, namjoon is still very, very sick. if you get really close to him you could get infected, too.” his mother gently explained.

“but, but, i wanna see joonie! let me see joonie, eomma!” seokjin’s eyes started to water.

“honey—“

“please eomma, i miss joonie! i miss joonie so much! and he’s been sick for so long! eomma, what if joonie hates me ‘cause i didn’t go to him?”

his mother sighed. seokjin’s and namjoon’s co-dependency on each other was going to be difficult in the near future. “okay, sweetie, we’ll go visit namjoon, okay?”

instantly, seokjin’s eyes stopped the downfall of tears and he smiled. “thank you eomma! thank you thank you thank you!” his eomma just smiles and takes him by the hand.

seokjin leaps out of the car, rushing towards his goal: his joonie. the other boy was standing stoically by the entrance of his huge house before spotting him. his face breaks into a smile and he runs towards jin too, colliding in the middle. namjoon says, “i missed you, jagiya.”

“missed you more, jagiya.”

“you can’t make me! i won’t go!” namjoon stomps his feet. “no chance!”

“namjoon-ah,” his mother sighs, running a hand down her face.

“joonie’s.. gonna be gone? he’s going somewhere without me? for a long time?” seokjin whispers, eyes shining.

“no, no, no! i’m not going anywhere without seokjin-hyung!” namjoon runs to seokjin, hugging the other boy fiercely. seokjin’s arms wind tightly across namjoon’s back, hands clutching at the fabric.

“jinnie, you’ve been without namjoon before, right?” his father asked, squatting down to meet his eyes.

seokjin burrows himself into the crook of namjoon’s neck, hands gripping his shirt more tightly before responding, “yeah, but you said until joonie’s eighteen. joonie’s only eight. that’s super long.”

“joon-ah, you need to go to america, so you can support the companies.” namjoon’s mother explained. his mother pulled him away and seokjin started to wail as namjoon was taken from him. namjoon fought against his mother, twisting and turning from her grip, trying to get back into his arms. but when his other mom pinned him down, he couldn’t fight anymore.

“joo-joonie!!” seokjin cried, “i want my joonie back!”

“jinnie, shhh, my darling,” his father scooped him up into his arms, cradling him. “namjoon-ah has to do this, he has to for you and the companies you’re gonna run together.”

“jinnie-hyung.” namjoon stands in front of him, face serious. “i’m going. i’m going to america.”

seokjin’s face twists into a scowl and he stands up, wipes his face and yells, “then you’re not my jagiya! you don’t love me!” he runs out the backdoor, into the big, open forest.

“jin-hyung! come back!” namjoon runs after him.

“joon-ah, i’ll get him.” seokjin’s mother puts a hand on his shoulder.

namjoon pulls the hand off his shoulder, continuing to run after seokjin.

namjoon yells out, “jinnie! jagiya! where are you!” he had just gone after his hyung, losing sight of him after he went into the forest. he doesn’t know if their parents followed them, but he will find his jagiya.

namjoon calls out seokjin’s name, before hearing a loud shout of pain; jin’s shout of pain. he races towards it, worried. soon he spots seokjin, clutching his ankle. tears are streaming down his face, dirt smeared on.

“jagiya—“ namjoon says, reaching out for seokjin.

“don’t call me that! i only let people who love me call me that.” even through the pain seokjin manages to shoot a glare at him, “you don’t love me.”

“but ja- jinnie, i do love you. i love you soooo much.” namjoon corrects himself, once again reaching for seokjin, only for him to move back.

“nuh-uh! if you love me then you wouldn’t go to america without me. i wouldn’t go to america without you.” seokjin sniffles.

“but jinnie, i have to! i’m going because i love you and i wanna take care of you and my eomma said that the best way i can do that if i learn stuff to manage our companies.” namjoon approaches seokjin, this time seokjin doesn’t move away from him.

“but, but you’re gonna forget about me. what if you forget about me and you never come home?” seokjin cries out.

namjoon blinks. “eh? but how can i ever forget about my jagiya? i couldn’t forget you even if i wanted to. i will never ever forget about you, jinnie.”

“how are you so sure? we’re not gonna see each other for a longggg time. you might not even remember what i look like or sound like or, or, you might not remember how i act.”

“hmm..” namjoon taps his finger on his chin. “oh! sometimes, when my mommy has to go to somewhere without my eomma, they call each other on their phones and they can hear each other and see each other! we can do that jinnie. so we can see each other every day when i’m in america.” namjoon hugs seokjin.

“are you sure we can do that? you promise joonie?”

“mhm. i swear.” namjoon heaves him and seokjin up, the other boy limping because of his ankle. “we’ll get your ankle fixed, jagiya.”

“bye, joonie.” seokjin said, clutching namjoon’s favorite blue koala, koya, in his arms. namjoon had his favorite alpaca too, hugging it tight to his chest. “rj’s the best travel partner you’ll ever have. he, he always,” seokjin sniffles, keeping his tears in. “he always, keeps me safe, when i, when i’m scared to go f-fly. don’t lo-lose him, ‘kay? i’ll never ever forgi-give you if you lose him.”

“i promise, jinnie. i’ll never ever lose rj. you won’t lose koya, right? you can always hug him when you miss me.” namjoon says, tears already streaming down his face.

“then i’ll have to hug him all the time, cause i’m gonna miss you all the time.” seokjin cries.

“namjoon, we have to go now. we’ll miss our flight sweetie.” namjoon nods at that, pulling seokjin for a hug and whispering, “i’ll miss you so much, jagiya. we’ll call everyday, i promise.”

“i’ll miss you so much more, joonie. miss you so much.” namjoon’s mom pulls them away from each other gently, pulling namjoon along. namjoon looks back at him, until he no longer can.

seokjin bawls the entire way back home.

life without his namjoon was, well, uneventful. for the first year without him, he didn’t want to do anything but call namjoon. yoongi and hoseok always tried to make him feel better but it would never work. the year after that, he was doing better, getting more used to the separation. he still called namjoon every day, though. even if he was getting more used to them being apart, it didn’t stop him from missing namjoon terribly. they couldn’t be on call all the time, because sometimes it was night for him when it was morning for him, and sometimes morning for him and night for namjoon.

seokjin was turning twelve this year, making it three years since namjoon went to america. something had happened while he was at school, though, something not good.

someone had tried to kiss him.

a familiar ringing interrupts his thoughts and he hurried to answer it. the familiar face of namjoon appears on his laptop. the younger grins at him, dimples popping out cutely. “hi, jagiya!”

“hi, joonie.”

namjoon seems to sense that he’s upset, he immediately asks, “what’s wrong, jinnie?”

seokjin swallows, “uhm, nothing?”

“hyungie.” namjoon’s nose scrunches. “what’s up?”

seokjin decides to just fess as fast as he can. he takes a deep breath and lets all his words spill out. “okaysobasicallysomeonetriedtokissmetodayandididntlethimofcourse!” he takes another breath, “butistillfeelhorribleaboutforgivemejoonie!”

“what’d you just say?”

“someone tried to ki-kiss me. but i dodged it! i swear joonie.”

“oh.” namjoon’s face goes guilty. “so-someone kissed me today too. b-but it happened so quick i couldn’t dodge it! i’m sorry jagiya!” namjoon starts to cry.

“no no! its okay joonie! i swear. you didn’t want it to happen right?”

“no, hyu, hyungie.”

“then i’m okay with it! i promise!”

“really?”

“really.”

“love you, hyungie.”

“love you more, joonie.”

seokjin wanted to bang his head against a wall. alphas and betas never stopped their relentless pursuit for him, even though he’s stated he already has an alpha.

“taehyung-ah! how do i make them stop?! this is so tiringgggg,” seokjin whined.

“aren’t you too old to whine like that hyung? aren’t you like eighteen?” jeongguk, their youngest snorted.

“shut up, brat! you’re lucky that your alpha is able to fight off anyone that tries to come for you. if you were in this situation, you wouldn’t be laughing.” he pouted, jeongguk laying his head on yoongi’s shoulder. it looked a bit ridiculous, considering the height difference, but he was still jealous.

“i don’t know hyung. have namjoon hyung fight them all for you, i guess.” taehyung shrugged.

“ughhh, i can’t do that. joonie isn’t coming home ’til a year..” the others shared a smile, making seokjin suspicious.

“what? what is it?” seokjin asks warily.

“i think you might want to look behind you, hyung.” seokjin raises an eyebrow and looks around. there stands his favorite person of all, his namjoonie.

he scrambles to his feet and runs his way to him, feet pounding hard against the cafeteria floor. the only thing on his mind was the person in front of him.

seokjin jumps at namjoon, the younger catching him. seokjin burrows face in namjoon’s neck, breathing in the scent he hasn’t smelled in nearly a decade. his joonie.

“hi, jagiya. are you really here?” seokjin pulls his face out and cups namjoon’s. he feels the warmth of the golden skin beneath his fingers, the caves of his beloved’s dimples.

“i’m really here, jagiya. i really am. did you miss me?” namjoon sets him down, looping his arms around his waist. seokjin only now notices he has to look up to look into namjoon’s eyes, the alpha having grown taller than him in the years they were separated. he also notices the eyes staring at them, so he pulls namjoon out of the cafeteria and into the hallway. he leads him to a bathroom, wrapping his arms around namjoon’s neck.

“i can’t believe it, joonie. i, i’ve missed you so much.” seokjin says.

“i’ve missed you more, jagiya. it felt like half of my heart was missing and now it feels whole again. my jinnie.” namjoon nuzzles his neck and seokjin purrs, agreeing fully.

later, the two get mated and married, having one son and one daughter. <3
