Work Text:
Jungkook was blinded by it all; the lights, the screaming, the attention. He felt like he was flying and he never wanted to come down. His fingers glided along the neck of his bass, soft wavy hair bouncing as he rocked along to the music. This was it, the moment he always wanted. Ever since he saw his first rock music video, he had been hooked. He knew that was what he was destined to be. Never in his young life had Kookie felt so sure of something.
Now, all these years later, he’d made it. Of course, he didn’t do it alone. Without his friends and bandmates he would’ve stayed in his garage, too afraid to even think of stepping foot on stage. For all the confidence he seemed to exude as he played, Jungkook was a very shy and humble boy. It took him years to admit that he loved playing the bass, and even longer than that to actually try and do something with that love. He could barely even muster the courage to play in front of his closest friends.
He could still remember the first time they ever played a show. They had gotten the chance to open for an even bigger local band and Taehyung, one of his best friends and fellow vocalist, basically had to bully him on stage. Their other bandmates had criticized him for being too harsh, until they saw how Jungkook finally shined when they went on. He had hated Tahyung for the way he had acted, but taking one look at the crowd quickly changed his mind. The fear totally melted out of him. They didn’t know he was just some dorky kid who played MMORPGs when he didn’t have a bass in his hands. They didn’t know about the embarrassing stuff he did as a kid, or the fact that he was still afraid of the microwave because he thought it might explode. They just knew he was here to give them a show. So, that’s what he did; gave the audience the best damn show he could.
It obviously worked, considering they were now popular enough to headline at any club in the state. Sure it’s not worldwide, but everyone has to start somewhere. Walk before you run, and all that jazz. Jungkook knew that when the time came, his band would top the charts and change the world. It was his destiny.
