Work Text:
"You're so sappy." Taehyung laughs across the room at him, laying on his back on their couch. He had his head turned to where Jimin was currently fussing with the corner of the blanket.
"I am not." Tae raises a brow at his response, his face creasing into a knowing boxy smile. "If anything I'm love-sick." Jimin concedes.
Tae laughs, throwing his head backwards. "We know." He rolls his eyes at his best friend. "My God, do we know."
Jimin threw one of the napkins at his side towards him, laughing when it bonks against the other mans nose.
"I let you be all kinds of love-sick when you first started dating Jin. Why can't you afford me the same luxury?" He pouts.
"Well, for one, our honeymoon phase lasted a hell of a lot less time than yours. And also, I didn't do anything near as sappy as this." He motions to where Jimin was currently lighting a candle.
"Do you think it's too much?" Jimin looks down towards the blanket, seeing it in a new light for the first time. It may be a bit over the top, the blanket spread out underneath him as two candles glow softly in the centre. Trays of assorted finger foods that he spent all day cooking surrounded where he sits.
"No!" Tae cries towards him, worried that his best friend was about to become embarrassed. "No. If you were doing this for anyone else... I don't know... maybe. But this is Joon Hyung. He'll only fall harder, trust me."
"You're sure?" Jimin picks at a loose thread at the corner of the blanket.
“Yes, I’m sure.” Tae smiles reassuringly at him.
Jimin nods slowly, fixing one of the plates of food to the side of him.
"And you know the..." He motions to the black gift boxes sitting on the coffee table to the side of them both.
"Not for Joon Hyung. Joon Hyung will love it, I promise you." Tae rises from his seat, walking over to wrap his arms around Jimin's shoulder, his head landing on his shoulder. "It's going to be fine, I'm sorry for making you panic."
"You promise?"
"If it's not just lead him into the bedroom and make him forget all about it." Jimin lets out choked laughter, his cheeks flaming at the thought.
"You're leaving me now aren't you?" Jimin sighs, wrapping his arms up and over his head, his hands clasped around the back of Taehyung's neck.
"Yep." Tae kisses the top of his hair softly.
“Do you have to?” Jimin feels himself whining, his best friend being one of the main reasons he isn't currently panicking at this all being 'too much'.
"Yes, because the second Joon arrives you're going to forget I exist. Then I'm going to have to say goodbye and it'll be a whole awkward thing." He kisses Jimin's hair once more before he stands up. "Besides, I need to get going before the rain really starts to come down."
“I’m sorry.” Jimin pouts, looking out at the window at the slow and steady patter of rain, the dark clouds rumbling in as the thunder starts.
“It’s not your fault it’s raining.” He ruffles his hair fondly before walking over to grab one of their larger umbrellas.
“Use my uber account.” Jimin calls after him. “I’m the one kicking you out.”
“Already did, it’s outside.” Tae winks, giggling as Jimin makes an indignant sound, the door closing behind him.
Jimin huffs loudly looking at the scene before him, collapsing backwards onto the floor.
A quiet knock brings him out of his stupor thirty minutes later, causing Jimin to glide to his feet, walking softly towards the door. He glances through the peep hole, his boyfriend unknowingly meeting his eye-line and he can't help the small smile that blooms across his face.
“You did your hair cute.” Jimin greets him as he opens the door, motioning at the soft blonde curls that fall against his forehead.
"Well, technically Jin did it cute." He picks at one of the curls, pulling on it until it nearly crossed his eyeline. "I just kind of sat there playing a game on my phone until he told me I was finished and could move again." He brought his hand to Jimin's own hair, picking one of the soft curls framing his face. "Besides your hair is always cuter." He tugs fondly on one of the candy floss pink strands.
He smiles as it has the desired affected, Jimin's cheeks flushing a light pink, his head dipping as he accepts the praise.
Jimin was about to respond, when he's stopped short, two arms wrapping themselves around his waist, pulling him in close. "Hey." Namjoon whispers, placing a soft kiss against his nose.
"Hey." Jimin breathes, his eyes full of wonder as his own two hands wrap securely around the back of Namjoon's neck, his fingers lightly playing with the hair at the nape of his boyfriends neck. He rests their foreheads together and closes his eyes for brief second, content.
"You picked a great day for a picnic." Namjoon smiles, his voice teasing. Jimin cringes as the first crack of lightning lights up the night sky through the window to the side of them. Seoul currently experiencing one of it's worst storms of the Autumn so far.
Jimin pouts, his head turning towards the window. "I had it all planned." He whines. "We were going to drink champagne and star gaze in the park. It was going to be magical."
"Every date with you is magical, you know that." Joon nudges their foreheads together once more, his eyes searching Jimin's to make sure he wasn't too disappointed in the change of plans.
"I know." He feels the pout before he can stop it. "I know, I just wanted our first date, post 'you-know-what' to be memorable."
"'You-know-what'?" Joon's brow crinkles in confusion, looking upon the other with fondness.
"You know." Jimin pulls on one of the hairs at the back of his boyfriends neck. He whines, pouting in annoyance as Namjoon continues to look at him with confusion in his eyes.
Suddenly Jimin watches the clarity seep into Namjoon's eyes, them both growing wider as he nods in understanding.
“I’m confused." He feigns innocence right after, brushing his nose against Jimin's own.
"Joonie." Jimin whines once more, suddenly too embarrassed to be the one to say the words first.
Thankfully Namjoon catches on. "Oh, wait, do you mean post..." He pulls back moving until his lips brush against Jimin's earlobe. "I love you." Namjoon whispers the words against the shell of Jimin's ear and he shivers in excitement. His lips trailing kisses over the sensitive skin underneath his ear.
"Yes, that." Jimin breathes, somehow managing to pull Namjoon even closer to him.
"You're meant to say it back." He pouts against the skin of Jimin's neck, his lips leaving even more kisses in their wake as they trail over his skin.
"I love you too." Jimin whispers in response, a smile blossoming across his face as his eyes screw up so tight he can barely see.
Namjoon pulls back at his words, his arms tightening around Jimin as he lift him upwards. Jimin shifts so his legs wrap snugly around the other mans waist, their foreheads leaning against one another.
"Can't believe you love me." Namjoon shakes his head, his eyes filled with awe.
"Can't believe you love me." Jimin adds, his hand stroking lightly across Namjoon's cheek.
With that Namjoon captures his lips with his own, the world melting away as they reunite.
Two hours later, and with a stuffed belly full of delicious finger food, Jimin laid on the floor, his head resting softly against Namjoon's thigh. He gazed softly up towards his boyfriend as he explained something to do with the Theory of Relativity. He couldn't even begin to pretend that he was actually listening, his eyes were too busy watching the others arms flail about as he described something new he had learnt, his hands growing further apart as he attempted to explain something, his own eyes focusing in on the wall in front of him as he forgets to look down at his boyfriend in his concentration.
Jimin was smart. He knew he was smart, his degree said he was smart, but sometimes he liked to switch his brain off. The words flowing out of Namjoon's mouth a lullaby to him as he watched his boyfriend get excited about a certain word or phrase. He couldn't even be bothered to pick out any facts and figures for later use, he just wanted to enjoy this time.
With that he reached upwards, grabbing one of Namjoon's hands as it flew past his face, intertwining their fingers as he pulled it softly against his chest. Namjoon looked down toward him with interwoven brows, checking to see if that was his way of telling him to stop his musings, but upon inspecting the besotted face smiling back up at him he decided he was okay, going back to his latest discovery. Namjoon squeezed their fingers together softly as he continues to speak, Jimin brought their hands to his lips, placing a soft kiss against the others knuckle, thinking about their time together.
Namjoon had silently stolen Jimin's heart a few months ago as he laid his eyes on a tall stranger smiling shyly at him across his and Taehyung's housewarming party. His mind turned blank as he watched dimples form into the side of his cheek as his smile grew, Jimin's own heart beginning to go into overdrive as he tries his best not to run towards him and confess his undying love. His mind tried it's best to ignore the 'stranger danger' alarm ringing in his mind as he looked towards the tall man he had no recollection of inviting or even knowing.
The nagging insistence stopped as Taehyung's boyfriend of four months walked up behind the stranger, wrapping his arms tightly around his shoulders, walking him towards Jimin. A devilish smile tugged at the handsome man's face as he looked between the pair, the strangers face becoming more and more nervous as he neared him.
“ Park Jimin, let me introduce you to my baby brother Namjoon. ”
It didn't take long for Jimin and Namjoon to have found their way into the hallway, their conversation beginning to feel too all consuming to be distracted by trivial things like the background party noises. They sat with their backs resting against the wall, their legs stretched out in front of them as their conversation ranged from everything, to absolutely nothing and all the things in between.
Namjoon spoke shyly of his doctorate in Civil Engineering, his ears turning pink as Jimin praised his hard work and determination. The elder listened with his eyes wide and besotted as Jimin spoke of his degree in maths, his blossoming career as a maths teacher causing Namjoon to nod his head in a bright enthusiasm. "All it takes is one good teacher to get you into maths." He smiled. "My goal is to be just that." Jimin smiled in response.
Jin and Taehyung found them three hours later, the party long emptied behind them but Jimin couldn't remember a single person leaving. Taehyung grinned knowingly at the way Jimin's legs were thrown across Namjoon's thigh. Jimin had been excitedly describing his love of dance when he threw his legs over him to explain the intricacy of a plié, Namjoon's eyes wide as he took in each word. Neither of them mentioned their new position, or the way Namjoon placed a protective hand over Jimin's legs to keep him in place seconds after he moved.
That was it for the pair, both completely besotted with each other from day one as they navigated the first steps of dating one another. The small butterflies they felt in their stomach as their eyes met, their first kiss, their first night together, their first morning together in which Namjoon woke Jimin up with a badly prepared breakfast in bed, burnt toast and all. Jimin wouldn't change it for the world.
"Hey." Jimin tugs on their hands, breaking Namjoon's flow, his eyes floating down to look at the others face. "I love you." He smiled upwards at him.
"Is this our new thing?" Namjoon giggled lightly, leaning down to peck their lips together. "We just say 'I love you' at any given opportunity?"
"Yep." Jimin wrapped his free arm around Namjoon's neck, pulling him back down for another kiss, this time something more than just a small peck. "We're gonna drive everyone insane." He whispers the words against his boyfriends lips, a smile tugging at his own.
"I fully support this plan." He hums, meeting Jimin's lips once more with his own. "I think Jin might kill one of us eventually, though."
“He’ll have to get through me first.” Jimin knocks their noses together, smiling.
“Oh, I always forget my boyfriends a blackbelt.” The blonde grins.
Jimin half pretends to gasp in horror. "I thought that was one of my main selling points." His eyes feigning shock as they meet Joon's. "I'm small and cute enough to pick up, but mess with my boyfriend or I and you'll have three broken bones and a concussion." His words turn to giggles as Namjoon attacks his cheeks with kisses.
"That is one of your selling points." He hums in agreement. "But you have many."
"Tell me." He whispers up towards his boyfriend, his eyes growing into the shape of a puppy dogs in the way he knew Joon couldn't resist. Namjoon was weak for showering Jimin in compliments and Jimin had a weak spot for hearing them.
"Well..." Namjoon's eyes slide slightly to the side as thinks. "I don't know where to start." He kisses Jimin's lips as he hums in thought.
"You're cute. That's obvious." Namjoon kisses Jimin's cheek as he finishes the sentence, giggling at the way he nods his head in approval. "You're funny." He kisses Jimin's further down his cheek. "You're smart." He whispers, moving over to Jimin's other cheek. "You're kind." The crinkle of Jimin's left eye. "You bake the best cookies." The bridge of Jimin's nose. "Don't tell Jin I said that." Smiling as Jimin breaks into giggles.
"You always believe in everyone, even if you hardly know them." He kisses the crinkle of Jimin's right eye this time. "You cry when you see old people holding hands and it's honestly the cutest thing I've ever seen." Jimin's forehead this time. "You're eyes crinkle when you smile too wide, like they're doing now, and I think I melt a little more inside each time." He kisses around his cheeks as he continues talking. "Your cheeks? Adorable. Your nose? Boopable. Your lips? The most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire life." He kisses Jimin's lips before continuing.
"You're also sexy as hell? Like how the fuck did I get so lucky? Because holy shit, have you seen your chest? I could write poetry. Your legs? Please, I can just stare at them and feel satisfied. Then there's your ass, I can't even begin to describe what that thing does to me, it turns me into hormonal teenager I swear. Your back dimples? Fuck." He takes a breath to continue but is cut off by Jimin's giggle.
"I... I'll stop now before I end up carrying you to the bedroom, but just know that to me you are the most adorable and perfect person on the planet and you make me so happy."
"How about you continue telling me how sexy I am later?" Jimin reaches to cup Namjoon's cheek, his eyes filled with promise.
"That is something I can definitely agree to." He grins, their lips meeting once more.
"Now you have to tell me what the first thing you liked about me was."
"Have to?" Namjoon laughs, his brow raised.
"Yep. It's the rules." Jimin grins upwards. "The rules I just made up." He answers Namjoon's unspoken question as he brows raise in confusion and amusement.
Namjoon breathes out heavily. "I presume you mean when Jin threw us toward one another then walked away in the worst disguised match-making session ever?"
Jimin giggles, nodding his head, waiting for his boyfriend to continue.
"Honestly, I was... ridiculously overwhelmed for the first hour?" Jimin raises his brows. "Yeah, I was just flying by the seat of my pants."
"Wait, really?" Jimin feels his eyes go slightly wider, having never heard this side of the story before.
"Yes." Namjoon laughs lightly. "But can you blame me? You were this adorable, talented, gorgeous little thing who looked like a blonde God. You were staring up at my through all this smokey eye make-up and I was talking to you about my Engineering degree." He laughs, shaking his head. "I was waiting for you to laugh at me and run off with one of the more typically gorgeous men at the party." He shrugged. "When Jungkook walked over and slapped you on the ass and you giggled? Yeah I thought I was done for." Jimin crinkled his nose at the thought, Jungkook was Jimin's surrogate little brother, the idea was not a pleasant one. "Yes, well obviously I know that now, but at the time..." He laughed, shaking his head again. "Then you told me about your maths degree and the way you worked with the children in your classes and I swear my heart stopped beating because your eyes lit up and your hands were moving around so enthusiastically.
"When you asked me to ditch the party and sit outside away from everyone I think I almost collapsed in excitement, I remember telling myself not to scream 'yes' at you and look like a weirdo. Then when you spoke about dance and threw your legs across my lap? Honestly, you're lucky I didn't go into cardiac arrest. Jin Hyung spent the entire journey home laughing at how overwhelmed I looked."
“Oh baby.” Jimin gasps, bringing Namjoon’s head back to his own in order to kiss his cheek softly. “I’m sorry.”
“No, it was a good thing.” He smiled. “You doing that was truly the only thing that gave me courage to message you the next morning and ask you out for a coffee.”
“It’s funny because you didn’t even have to worry about it, I think I was gone from the second I saw your dimples.” Jimin pokes the offending spot on Namjoon’s cheek as he talks. “Then when I found out you were smart? I was a goner.” He whistles. “Plus the fact you can pick me up and carry me around is definitely a bonus, especially when I’m tired of walking places.” He grins.
“Still can’t believe you managed to convince me to carry you for twenty whole minutes the other day.”
“Well maybe if you’d have just sprung for an uber like I wanted to…”
“We would have walked there in ten if you didn’t force me to carry you.” Namjoon raises his brow.
“I was tired.” He whines. “Your arms were much more comfy.”
“You’re lucky I love you.”
“I know.” Jimin grins, bringing their lips together.
“You didn’t have to make a whole picnic.” Namjoon brushes their nose together once more, eyeing up the half decimated food they had devoured earlier. “But I appreciate it.”
“I promised you a fun and cute picnic date.” Jimin pouts, turning to look at the lashing rain against the window. “The weather didn’t cooperate, but I refuse to bow to such trivial things.”
“The weather is no match for Park Jimin, in fact nothing and no one is.”
“Especially when it comes to me ensuring that my boyfriend is happy, healthy, well fed, and smiling.”
Namjoon doesn't say anything more, only crashes his lips down against Jimin's.
"So." Jimin starts, he was currently wrapped under a blanket as he snuggled himself into Namjoon's lap. His head was resting in the crook of his shoulder. Sometimes, Jimin wondered if maybe the spot was created just for him, his head snuggling in perfectly. He felt his eyes flutter close as he drowned in his boyfriends unique scent of clean cotton.
"So..." Namjoon repeats, his arms tightening around the man in his lap, waiting for him to continue as he places a light kiss against his hair.
“You know I do silly and cheesy things sometimes, right?”
Namjoon laughs, his head falling back against the back of the couch behind them. “Yes. I‘m well aware, I also know you can be very impulsive.”
“Those boots were a great purchase.” Jimin pouts, cutting his boyfriend off before he can laugh at him for buying $500 boots again.
“I’m not having this conversation again.” He stops the conversation before it can turn into one of their good natured debates. Namjoon spent more on clothes than Jimin, he knew he’d lose. However his purchases usually fell into the ‘planned out’ or ‘saved for’ categories, whilst Jimin’s purchases are more in the ‘this is cute AND it’s on sale?!’ category. He squeezes Jimin to him, distracting him from his thoughts. “Baby, you look gorgeous in those boots. I want to ravage you each time you wear them.”
“See, there’s the answers I like.” Jimin grins, kissing the base of Namjoon’s neck.
“So what silly and cheesy thing did you do?” Namjoon plays with the back of Jimin’s hair.
Jimin reaches forward, his hand skirting across the top of the coffee table until he finds the two boxes he needs, bringing them back to rest against his lap.
“I did something impulsive.” He hands one of the boxes to Namjoon as he keeps the other in his hands.
Namjoon eyes the white ‘Saint Laurent’ embossed into the black box in his hand, his eyebrows raising at the designer name. “You don’t have to buy me things.” He furrows his brow, looking to Jimin. “You know just getting to spend time with you is the best gift I could ever receive.”
“But, you’re my boyfriend, and I love you, and I want to buy you things.” Jimin peeks his head out from Namjoon’s shoulder, popping a kiss onto Namjoon’s lips.
“But this can’t have been cheap. I…” He turns the box in his hand, staring at it in disbelief.
“Joonie?” Namjoon’s eyes slowly lift to Jimin’s. “I love you, let me treat you, and if you don’t like it, I’ll take it back.”
“I’m going to love it. You bought it for me.” He replies simply.
“Open it then.” Jimin bounces against Namjoon’s legs in excitement, pecking his lip with a grin stretching across his face. "Please?" He kisses him once more, before moving back to lean his head against Namjoon’s shoulder, waiting for him to open the box.
“Before I do, just…” Namjoon starts, weighing the box in his hands. “I just love you, I love you so much, and I can’t believe I get to hopefully spend forever with you, and this is so much, too much, but also so innately you, and it just makes me love you more.”
“What do you mean hopefully?” Jimin teases. “I’m sorry, but you’re kind of stuck with me.”
“I swear I must have saved a fucking country in a past life.”
Jimin swats at him good naturedly, smiling like the biggest idiot.
Namjoon pulls open the black box softly, gently pulling the black bag out from inside. Jimin smiles softly at the way Namjoon's arms never leave where they cocoon Jimin to him, his body moving in all sorts of awkward way so as to not dislodge them from one another.
He opens the bag carefully, the small necklace falling out into his hand a second later. He holds the pendant against his hand as he inspects the small silver heart, the metal brought out at the side as if to look as though the sun is glowing behind it.
“Wow.” He mumbled, turning it over in his hand. “This is…” He shakes his head.
“Is that a good wow?” Jimin mumbles.
“The best wow.” He smiles.
“You mean it?”
“I mean it.” He breathes. “I love it." He pulls back, nudging Jimin’s face towards him. “I love you.” He whispers before capturing Jimin’s lips in a deep kiss, Jimin’s toes curling as Namjoon pours all the gratitude into it.
Jimin breathes deeply as they pull apart, his lips swollen, and his eyes glowing with love. “Let me put it on you.” He cries, grabbing the necklace from Namjoon’s hand and placing it around his boyfriend neck.
He pulls back when it’s situated, his hand coming out to stroke the silver fondly.
“That’s my heart.” Jimin mumbles, his hands stroking the metal. “I give you my heart.” He looks up, his eyes locking with Namjoon’s, his eyes serious as he conveys the message.
“I’ll treasure it.” Namjoon whispers in response, his fingers coming up to touch the metal softly, brushing against Jimin’s own. “No harm will ever come to it.”
“I trust you.” Jimin kisses him once more, trying to shake off the way tears begin to blossom in his eyes.
Jimin resumes his earlier position, his head nestled against Namjoon’s neck, watching as Namjoon caresses the metal softly between his finger and his thumb.
“I’m the luckiest idiot on the planet I swear.” He laughs to himself, pulling Jimin closer.
“I think you’ll find that’s me.” Jimin responds, smiling softly.
Namjoon shakes his head, his giggles bewildered as he plants kisses across Jimin’s hair.
“There’s another box.” Namjoon murmurs after a long and comfortable silence, only kisses exchanged with the occasional ‘I love you’ thrown in.
“I...” Jimin nods. “So, I hope you don’t mind me doing this, but…” Jimin bites his lip as he opens his box, taking out the same silver heart. “I thought if I was giving you my heart…”
“I’m going to find out how much this was tomorrow and transfer it into your bank account.” Namjoon mumbles into his hair.
“But I wanted to do this for us, this isn’t money based, it’s symbolic.”
“Jimin.” Namjoon starts seriously, almost making the other gulp in panic that he said the wrong thing. “You are the most amazing man I have ever known, only you would think to do this, but fuck, I love you so much.” He breathes out a laugh.
Jimin meets Namjoon’s lips with his own, pushing as much of his love as he can into the kiss.
“You know you have my heart. It’s yours. It was yours from the moment I laid eyes on you. It always has been yours. It always will be yours.”
“Then gift it to me.” Jimin hands him the necklace, leaning forward.
With shaking hands Namjoon takes the necklace, moving the chain around his neck as he fastens it slightly clumsily.
“Will you take my heart?” He asks as he moves back to look at Jimin.
“I will take it and protect it until the end of time.” Jimin answers with fire in his eyes.
“I love you Park Jimin.”
“I love you, Kim Namjoon.”
With that Jimin feels himself lifted up and away from the couch, the two of them moving towards the bedroom where Namjoon makes good of his earlier promise. The two hearts around their neck gleaming in the post-storm moonlight.
