Work Text:

“i can’t believe you really exist.”

“i was always here.” in comparison to you, the boy is beautiful. flawless. blonde hair that invited your fingers to run through. eyes that somehow see right through you. it scares you a little, but makes you want to fall into him, too. smooth complexion, angel’s lips that looked as if honey flowed from them and were too soft, much too soft for someone like you. whoever that may be.

the area surrounding the two of you is lovely as well, just shy of matching the boy’s magnificence. the dappled sunlight shines a little more ethereal than it would have outside the forest, the sound of a brook happily bubbling away not too far off in the distance. a strange haze seems to have settled over the place - and subsequently, your vision - making everything glimmer and shine. the flowers’ colours pop a little bit more, the ferns curl with a little more friendliness, the moss springs beneath your step.

warily, you step closer to him. the divine boy, appearing like an angel in your dreams. he’s too good to be true. he watches patiently as you approach, hints of amusement playing in the smirk on his face, but you don’t care. you’d best be careful around perfect beings like him.

“would you like to sit?” he asks, gesturing to a log overgrown with moss and sprouting daisies. you nod.

you tuck your legs neatly beneath you, leaning your back against the log. he follows suit shortly after, settling just beside you. you tense for the briefest of moments, before relaxing. it’s impossible to feel tense in this forest, with an angel boy by your side.

“i’ve seen your fairy lights,” he says amusedly, when you make no move to break the silence. he probably sensed the inner awkwardness you were feeling. “they’re very pretty. they’ve tempted me to your house once or twice. maybe more.”

“well, why didn’t you?”

he gives you a sidelong look. “i can’t leave the forest.” he says simply, and you nod as if you understand. you feel the shackles around your heart weakening. you’re safe here, you think. in the middle of a magical forest patch and with a boy you don’t know but trust - whether it be to your advantage or eventual demise. he hadn’t quite made clear which side he was on yet. but oh, to die by his hands would be a heavenly way to go, so you didn’t quite mind.

“i feel very lonely,” you start, and you don’t know why, but you choke up just at that. hot tears line your eyes, and you see him angle his body more towards you. “i don’t know - i don’t know what’s the point of life. i enjoy it. i think there are beautiful sights. but - but what’s the point. all i do is get hurt and hurt when i don’t mean to. it’s so chaotic out there. there’s always ten thousand different things that need attending to, calling for emotional maturity or something and i just -”. you sigh, fingers playing with some dew-dropped grass.

“i want to stay here - with you. where i can concentrate on the things in life that do matter. the beautiful sights that nature offers. to pick berries in the morning and apples in the afternoon. to cook something on the stove and fill the whole house up with delicious smells that call my family back to home. to go flower-gathering in midday and fill the house with blooms and the scent of fresh flowers. to sit by the table in the afternoon, tea and scone in hand, and gaze lovingly at the filtered sunlight. to take moonlight walks, holding hands of the one i love. to kiss …” you trail off, realising you’ve said too much with a blush on your cheeks.

“you can’t stay here with me.” he says bluntly, and oh, it feels like your whole being shatters. suddenly, the forest doesn’t seem as beautiful as before, and your legs and heart urge you to jump up and run, run run run and flee -

“you can’t stay here until i propose to you.”

- oh?

you turn your thoroughly confused gaze to him, and he gives a self-satisfied smile at the momentary panic he had induced in you. fairies are mischievous, after all, even as they love. he loves how you don’t know how much he has in store for you. the feeling you’ve been chasing for your whole life - he’ll give it to you, but on his terms, in his own way, at his own pace. he’s been waiting for you, after all - it’s only fair he lets you taste a little of your medicine. though, he can’t be too cruel, either - he’s waited long enough, he wants to get to love you as well, and feel your love on him. the sunshine the grows flowers.

“you have to run back home tonight,” he says, pressing a kiss to your forehead that makes you blush hotly. “and sleep in your bed, and cry. but soon enough, you’ll be here, by my side, tending to our cottage. we’ll get married in a ceremony in the backyard brimming with the roses and lavenders you love. and then we’ll spend eternity together. but we have right now, and you can’t miss it.” he gently takes hold of your hand, and you feel the tenderness hidden beneath his hard words. “and you’re welcome back here anytime before that.”

Notes:

i hope you enjoyed!!! please let me know what you think; like i said, this is my first ever time writing ff. you can also find me on tumblr @probablypjm! i wrote this as a healing of sorts, because life is hard and i like pjm a lot lol. i meant to keep it for myself, but for some reason felt compelled to share it in case others also needed a pick-me-up from pjm so ... here we are. i intend for this to be a non-chronological series, though updated infrequently. what can i say? i'm shy.
