Work Text:
Midnight's Kisses; A kissing booth with the hero herself. It sounded mildly disgusting, but the allure of the woman herself was appealing to anyone wasn't it? A decent crowd of both men and women had clung to the small booth all day and in hus experience crowds drew attention of more people, and the cycle went on. He was curious at one point, but the line was too long for him to break protocal and wait instead of helping security during the event.
Besides it all looked closed mouth, which he didn't count as a kiss anyway.
The whole idea was an outdated cliché, but Mirai supposed it worked for the woman, especially if you took her public persona into account.
Once the festival drew to a close, the lines thinned, and people left, vendors started to tear down their booths.
Midnight's was currently empty and he took his chance.
"Hey there. Still open?"
He was so much taller than her she had to look out and up from her awning to really see him.
"Well, well, if it isn't Sir Nighteye. What can I do for you, handsome? Of course we're open, for another few minutes."
She turned the open sign to closed even as she said it, and Mirai supposed that meant he would be her last customer.
He left a bill in her jar and waited, not entirely sure how he was supposed to go about this. Midnight licked her lips, a little swollen from overuse, and she leaned in, prompting him to do the same.
He had been watching, for the majority of the day, and right about there was when she would close her mouth and give her customers a light peck.
What Mirai received was, well, it wasn't a peck, that's for sure. He was positively certain the other men and women vying for her lips didn't get away with threading their fingers through her hair and didn't receive her reciprocating light touch at the baby hairs at the back of their necks. They didnt get to really taste her lips, and then more, deeper, because if they had, he supposed no one would ever leave. She was a very good kisser.
Midnight had a woman in the booth with her on the merchandise selling end, and they chose that moment to interrupt.
"Midnight-san, it's time to tear down our booth."
The two did break apart at that, before either were really ready to and Midnight gave the girl a dark glare that sent shivers down his spine. It was on a level akin to that he used on his own subordinates and he wasn't sure why it excited him.
Maybe I can make her use it on me. No, actually that's a very bad idea. But you want it--and you don't at the same time.
It was true, what the girl said anyway, they were one of the last ones left standing and Mirai hadn't realized so long a time had passed. He glanced at his watch and sure enough, there were five minutes until the call for all vendors to be shut down.
That wasn't very long at all.
"Do you need any help tearing down? Looks like you only have about five minutes. My fault, really, I should have come to the booth earlier and not held you up."
"Nighteye," Midnight turned back to him, "It's no trouble. It wont take but a minute to tear down the structure, it's an automatic sort of thing."
She exited the booth via a hidden side door and pushed a button. The whole booth folded in on itself in sections and pieces breaking down into small chunks before folding itself into a nice, neat, suitcase with wheels and a handle. It was an excellent model to compact so tightly.
The woman who'd accompanied her looked supremely annoyed, and Mirai wondered what could possibly have her so upset?
"I'm taking this back to the office now. You guys can continue sucking face or... whatever, I don't care. Bye."
"Have a nice night, Hikari!" Midnight called after her.
Strange to see such a complete mood shift.
"Ah, so it seems we are out of time." She said, gesturing to the park now empty of stalls outside a few just leaving.
Even as she said it, Mirai knew he didn't actually want their short time together to end, and offered an arm.
"Would you allow me to escort you home?"
"Oh? A proper gentleman..." she licked her lips and gave him a strange once-over, "you may."
She took his arm and they left the park. Midnight gave him instruction as they walked.
"Forgive me if it is an inappropriate question, Midnight-san, but might I ask how many people you kissed today?"
She laughed and gripped his arm a little tighter.
"On paper, about 758. But if you asked me, only one of those were an actual, proper, kiss."
"Oh? Who's the lucky guy?"
"Mmm, this hero I've had my eye on for a while. He's pretty thick though, it took watching me kiss 700 people to make him want one himself."
"Must have been quite the idiot to miss your intentions."
"Better late than never, as they say, though I think my assistant is going to be happy."
"And why is that?"
"Because I can finally stop scheming up elaborate plans to get him to kiss me."
"I suppose she wasn't a fan of being dragged into it."
"I couldnt imagine why, I pay her well!"
"Sometimes it isn't about the money, Midnight-san. Which way do we go from here?"
"Hmm, we'll turn left at the next intersection."
He nodded and they continued walking when the crossing light turned white.
"What do you mean it isn't about the money, Nighteye?"
"I mean, did you have to set up such elaborate plans in the first place? You'd think it would be easier just to ask him. Especially if he's as thick as you say."
"But where's the fun in that? It would be too easy. My place is just up the street here, the red one."
Mirai glanced ahead and saw the two story homey looking place with plants overgrowing every surface. The owner must have a green thumb, he thought. He brought her to the stairs leading up to her apartment and she stood for a moment just in front of him.
"Sometimes, Midnight-san. It would seem you need to spell it out for this person."
"Not very good at picking up cues, is he?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Why don't you kiss me again, Sir Nighteye? But this time, we'll go inside first."
"I would be delighted."
