Alisa tightened the arms she had looped around Angelica’s waist, enjoying the feel of the wind against her face. Though, the bite of cool, spring night air stopped when the bike came to a stop, right along a clear part of the highway.
When Alisa pulled away, Angelica sighed, “Too bad…I was really enjoying that ride, the feeling of you pressed up against my back and all.”
“Angelica!” Alisa’s cheeks went a deep red, almost matching her uniform jacket. Angelica grinned, obviously enjoying the flustered look on Alisa’s face.
The pair got off the bike, Angelica taking care to help Alisa off, “One beautiful night under the stars.”
“You know, we’re still breaking curfew.”
A playful wink was all the response Alisa got as Angelica sauntered over to a left-over tree stump and sat, patting the spot next to her.
With an eyeroll and a sigh, Alisa followed but before the blonde could actually sit down, Angelica reached out and turned her lap into a seat, eliciting a squeal from her girlfriend, “Even ol’ Heinrich’s letting us run kinda wild. Stop worrying about curfew.”
“…ok.” Alisa giggled, before she settled into Angelica’s lap for real, throwing her legs to the side and wrapping her arms around Angelica’s neck, “The new bike seems well-tuned.”
“Of course, George put it together.” Angelica nuzzled her face into the crook of Alisa’s neck, “And the custom gear for distance riding makes it extra smooth.”
Alisa didn’t say anything in response, just tightened her hands, prompting Angelica to look up and see the pensive look marring the real angelic face between the pair, “Aww, hey. What’s wrong, Alisa?”
“Next week…I’ll be going back to Roer and you’ll be off to who knows where. Maybe I coul-”
Angelica pressed a finger to Alisa’s lips, quieting her mid-sentence, before moving her hand to wipe away welling tears that the blonde hadn’t even noticed, “Nuh-uh-uh. Your turn to suffer through lessons so we can one day be badass rulers together, right?”
The blonde chuckled, hugging Angelica closer, but her voice wavered when she spoke, “R-right. I’m just…going to miss you.”
“Hey, hey, I should be more worried some hot business babe is gonna come in and sweep you off your feet. If you and your mom are any example, badass babes in business are a dime a dozen.”
“I think my mom’s pretty unique…” Alisa sighed, “And I don’t know how badass I’ll look with bags under my eyes...”
“Sharon’ll make sure that you look positively flawless all the time, I’m certain.” And Angelica got that smug grin on her face, leaning in to steal a quick kiss, “Just don’t let any other admirer sweep you off your feet, alright?”
“Like anyone but you would be able to,” Alisa smiled, “You’ve set the bar too high.”
The leather-clad girl laughed, puffed out her chest and proudly declared, “Well, no one will ever be able to match up to me.”
At that, the pair devolved into laughs and giggles under the starry sky.
--a few months later--
“Lady Alisa, something else has arrived for you.”
Alisa looked up from the paperwork she was reading in surprise, “…now? I thought all the mail arrived this morning.”
“The instructions on it were to specifically wait until the afternoon for it to be delivered.” She watched as Sharon crossed the room, who was carrying a tray covered by a lid, “Your surprise, my lady.”
Sharon removed the tray, revealing a small jewelry box and a postcard from… “Grancel?”
Picking up both items, Alisa flipped open the lid of the box with one hand, revealing a pair of silver triangular earrings. She refocused her attention to the postcard, reading over the back with a fond smile, “She’s enjoying herself in Liberl now, is it?”
There wasn’t much written on the back, but what was there was in Angelica’s familiar, messy scrawl.
“…’Don’t overwork yourself’, huh?” Her crimson eyes scanned the postcard again, eyes widening, “Sharon, can you make sure I stop working at three today? And set out some of the really nice stationary back in my room?”
“Planning a reply, my lady?”
“Yeah, she mentioned that she’s in Grancel for a while longer…if I get it out today, it should reach her before she leaves.”
With a curtsy and knowing smile, Sharon left her lady alone, as the blonde was pulling out a hand mirror from one of her drawers to put on the new earrings.
The last thing Sharon heard was a soft muttered, “...at least it’s not as bad as when she sent the choker..”
