They get off the bus and head inside. Bakugo stays to the back with his hands in his pockets. Until they get inside.
His posture is straighter and he takes his hands out of his pockets. A few people realise this and start to watch him. The main receptionist waves at him, he smiles and waves back. They get to the paediatric ward and the person at the reception stands to greet him.
"Nice to see you again."
"You too." He smiles. This didn't go unnoticed and Bakugo knows. He works his way to the front of the class and walks a little faster.
"Bakugo! Manners!" Aizawa snaps.
"Shut the fuck up." He says before opening the door.
"Katsuki!" She runs over and hugs him.
"Elizabeth." They all look between the two in a stunned silence.
"I didn't know it was your class that was coming."
"I wanted to surprise the kids."
"They're going to be so happy it's your class."
"I hope so. How's Ethan?"
He makes conversation with the nurse as they walk into the ward. The class follow behind, listening in but not knowing who anyone was.
"Not good. His hearing is going faster then we thought."
"And he's not taking it well." Bakugo sighs. "He reminds me of me."
"He's exactly like you." They laugh and open the door with the class following behind. Before Bakugo even gets halfway in kids start to swarm him.
"Big Brother Bakugo! Look I learnt a new word!" Lucy signs something with a little difficulty.
"Well done!" He ruffles her hair.
"Baku!" Mia jumps and hugs his leg.
"Hello." He laughs. 'Back in a second guys.' He signs and they all shuffle back.
He takes a seat on Ethan's bed.
'How you doing buddy?'
'I hate it.'
'It sucks. But it gets better.'
'Really?'
'Of course. I mean I'm in the hero course and I don't have all my hearing!' He smiles widely.
Suddenly a bunch of kids pull him to his feet. 'Come on.' He signs to Ethan. He sighs and follows him and the kids to the sofa in the corner. The class look on quietly.
'Who are those people?'
'These are my class mates.'
'Wait you're in the hero course?!'
'Yes.'
'That's so cool.'
'Why don't you guys put your new hearing aids in so we can talk to them?' A chorus of agreement rings throughout the room. All the kids run and grab the boxes next to their bed.
'Can you help me put it on Big Brother?'
'And me!
'And me!'
'I'll help as many of you as I need to.' They all smile and make a line in front of him.
He adjusts them all. "This okay?" He says aloud. When they've all got them on he smiles at them. "Go on then." None of them move. "They're nicer then me. Come on." He sighs.
"They can't be nicer then Brother." The class giggle a little at that.
"Go say hello." He says. Nobody moves. "Fu-Jesus Christ. Okay." He steps forward.
"You all look confused as hell so I'll answer your questions later. Or just ask the kids." He shrugs and looks at the class, "anyway. This is Mia, Ethan, Molly, Harry, Lucy and Amber."
He point to them one by one.
"Ethan is the oldest. He's 10. Molly and Harry are the second oldest. They're twins and both 9. Amber and Lucy are both 7. Mia is the youngest and she's 5. Molly, Lucy and Amber are all fully deaf. Ethan, Harry and Mia aren't but still have trouble hearing."
He looks at the class. "You lot are all old enough to introduce yourselves." He motions and stands with Elizabeth. They start to talk as the class introduce themselves to the kids.
"I'm surprised your class didn't know."
"Know what?"
"That you're hard of hearing and that you volunteer here."
"Well I didn't want them to know."
"Why not?"
"Don't turn this into therapy."
"I know I know. That's next week." They laugh and look back at the class. "So which one is it?"
"What do you mean?"
"The boy you like."
"None of them."
"Sure. It's the redhead right?"
"What the fuck? How do you know that?!"
"You've been staring at him."
"I have not."
"You have."
"Okay so I have. What are you gonna do?"
"Tell the kids."
"You wouldn't dare." He looks over and sees Mia and Ethan with Kirishima, Kaminari and Mina.
"You sure?" She smirks.
"Mia, Ethan." She calls them sweetly. They turn to look at her as do the 3 aspiring heroes. She starts to sign.
'Did you know Bakugo has a crush?'
'I do not.' He signs quickly. Mia smiles,
'You do?! Is it the nice one with red hair?' She signs. Bakugo starts to sign no over and over whilst shaking his head, his face turning redder each time. His 3 classmates just laugh.
‘It is! Well done Mia!'
'Okay Mia. You got it right but it's a secret okay?'
'Secret?'
'Yes. A secret.'
'Okay.' She bounces and looks back at Kirishima. Kirishima laughs and walks over to Bakugo.
"So. Were we ever gonna get told about any of this?"
"Any of what shitty hair."
"This." He gestured to the room.
"Listen. I'll talk about it later." That wasn't was Kirishima was expecting. He was expecting to get cursed out.
"I thought you'd flip out."
"Shut it. I don't want the kids to see be me shouting and being aggressive.” He sighs. “They can only hear normally with the hearing aids and I don't want their memories of the first few years of using them to be full of shouting. It's pretty shitty to have shouting be the first thing you're able to hear." Kirishima smiles at that response, Bakugo was a lot softer and mature then everyone gives him credit for.
He also frowns slightly putting two and two together. 'His first few years were full of shouting.' He thinks.
'You two together yet?' Ethan signed, his eyebrow raised.
"Oh you little-" Bakugo chases him around the room and soon enough he's caught him and started to tickle him. Within a few seconds Ethan rallied the rest of the kids and they start helping him. Bakugo is soon laying on the floor as the kids jump on and tickle him.
"Bakugo has a crush." Ethan says excitedly.
"Ethan I swear to god." He sighs. The class watch in amusement. They've taken to sitting on the kids beds.
"Who is it?" Molly asks.
"Nobody." He sighs.
"He just doesn't want to say because he's in the room." Harry teases. The class fall silent.
"He?" Mineta asks.
'Maybe I have a chance.' Kirishima thinks to himself.
"Yep. He. Big Bro said that it doesn't matter what gender someone is. You can like whoever you want." Harry finishes.
"Like this girl at my school is really pretty and everyone told me I wasn't allowed to think that but Big Brother Bakugo told me it was okay and told me all about the boy he thought was pretty." Molly continues.
"Mollyyy." Bakugo whines. He then looks at the class. "I'm gay. I don't know how you haven't already realised but yea. If you have a problem with it you can leave." He says bluntly. He then looks at Molly. He starts to tickle her. "We agreed that was a secret."
"Sorry." She says through her laughs. "Help." She says and the other jump on Bakugo. He jumps up with them all hanging onto him.
"Really?" He sighs.
"Yep!" Lucy says.
"Wow. Okay." He looks at the class. "Help?" He says laughing a little. Kirishima bursts into laughter and walks over to Bakugo.
"Come on. Let's not kill Bakugo today." Some of them jump off. Mia stays on though. She's the youngest out of them all.
'You're right. He is pretty.' Molly signs. Bakugo's face turns a bright red and he signs back,
'I know he is. And that's my problem.' "Thanks hair for brains."
"No problem. Don't want my best friend dying before we become pro-heroes." He laughs and Bakugo feels his chest tighten. Right. Friends.
Mia taps him. 'Friends?'
'Yes. We're not actually together.'
'But you like him.'
'I do.'
'Tell him.' Bakugo nearly drops her.
'Not gonna happen.'
"Fine but I'm tired."
"Let's put you to bed then." He bounces slightly and puts her down.
'I know you're sad.' She signs.
'I'm okay.' He smiles.
"Stay with me until I fall asleep please?" She asks.
"Okay okay."
"Can you read us a story before you leave?" Molly asks.
"Of course I can. Go pick one." The group run and pick out a book as Bakugo sits on Mia's bed and she lays on his lap. The group give him a book called 'Little red riding hood.'
They all huddle together on Mia's bed. Some of them cuddle into Bakugo, some just sit there. The class decide to sit on the few beds around Mia's and listen in.
At the end of the story most of the kids are nearly asleep. He taps them all on the shoulder. He motions at his ear and they hand him their hearing aids. He puts them all in the correct box. Once he's done that he carries them all to their own beds. Glaring at the class until they move. "'Katsu." Mia says sleepily.
"What's up?" He signs and says. She touches her forehead. "Okay. I'm coming." He walks over smiling and places a kiss on her forehead. The others then tap their foreheads and he kisses them all. The class melt at the sight of Bakugo being soft.
'Sleep well.' He signs. They all wave and start to fall asleep.
The nurse pulls Bakugo into a hug. "I'll see you next week then?"
"Of course." He hugs back and the nurses kisses his cheek.
"You need to stop growing."
"Yea yea."
'And you need to ask that boy out.' She signs, looking dead serious.
"I do not." He starts to walk away. She turns him around.
'You'll be fine. He likes you back.'
'How do you know?'
'He was staring at you and smiling every time you were with the kids. I saw admiration and love in those eyes.'
'Sure whatever. That was cheesy as shit.'
'I'm right!' She signs and puts her hands on her hips.
'Yea yea. I'll fucking do it eventually.' She slaps his arm slightly.
"Language Katsuki."
"Whatever." He sighs.
"See you soon."
"See you." He kisses her cheek and they hug again before they leave.
Bakugo says goodbye to all the receptionists they see along the way. They get back on the bus and everyone looks at Bakugo.
"I'll explain when we get back. Fuck off." He says and puts his headphones in.
He looks at his phone and gets a call from Ethan.
"Hey buddy, aren't you supposed to be asleep?" The class turn to look at him. He waves them off. "You shouldn't have your hearing aid in for too long it's still new."
"I know I'm sorry but I'm scared." Bakugo hears him sniffle a little.
"It's okay. I'm listening. What's up?" The bus pulls up to U.A and Bakugo stands outside the dorms for a bit. Kirishima sticks around and waits for him. Bakugo doesn't care enough to tell him to fuck off.
"What if people don't like me because I can't hear? What if they hit me or-"
"Ethan. Listen. Nobody is going to hate you purely because you can't hear properly. And if they do then me and them are going to have some problems." They both laugh.
"Thank you."
"It's okay buddy. Now go to sleep. Take your hearing aids out. If you use a pair too much they hurt like hell."
"Oh yea I got told about that."
"Yea it's worse then they make it out to be. Go on."
"Okay okay. I'll talk to you later."
"See you soon." He hangs up and looks at Kirishima.
"You didn't have to stay shitty hair."
"I wanted to."
"Why?"
"I wanted to ask you something."
"I already said I was going to answer everything once were inside."
"No. I-uh. Who do you like?"
"Nobody. The kids were just fucking around."
"That's a lie. Just tell me."
"What am I supposed to tell you?" Bakugo gets pissed. "Oh hey, shitty hair guess what? I've been madly fucking in love with you since the middle of the 2nd year." Bakugo freezes. "Shit."
"Oh thank god." Kirishima sighs.
"What?" Bakugo looks confused. "I know that you don't like me back. Okay? I fucking know this. And I know that you like me even fucking less now that I've kept this from you and I doubt you'd want to be around someone who can't even hear your shitty voice-" Kirishima grabs Bakugo's face and kisses him quick.
"You literally just told that kid that nobody's going to hate him because he can't hear, so don't you dare put yourself down for it."
"Yea Yea. Fucking whatever."
"I love you as well dimwit." He smiles.
"Wait you fucking what?" He looks stunned.
"I love you too."
"Fuck sake." Bakugo blushes. "Come on. Let's get inside." He walks into the dorms.
He walks in and takes a seat. He sees his classmates and Aizawa look at him. "Yea yea. Ask away but fucking please. One at a time."
"How did you know them all?" Midoriya asks.
"This will probably answer most of your questions since it's a long story but yea.
"So when I first got my quirk I was 5. Unfortunately hearing loss ran in the family. So when I got an explosive quirk. I was dealt a bad hand.
"If god exists he was giving me the biggest middle finger ever.” Kirishima knows that it’s not funny, but him and Kaminari can’t help snorting a little at that.
”By the age of 6 I had to stay in that hospital for months on end. Tests and hearing aids were all given to me.”
"Eventually at the age of 9 I didn't have to stay in the hospital. I just had to visit every week. After a while I started to help out with the younger kids.
"Elizabeth looked after me so I helped her look after the other kids. Now I only have to go twice a month. Once is for a general hearing test and the other is therapy. I got lucky. Elizabeth is my therapist so it's nice actually. I thought I'd fucking hate it.”
"Anyway. I normally help out every week, sometimes after my check-up or therapy. Which is why I'm always away for one day a week. Usually a weekend."
"So you're deaf?" Kaminari asks.
"No. Not quite. I have some of my hearing, everything just sounds underwater and far away. So I use these." He takes off one of his hearing aids.
"Dude! I never noticed those."
"No shit. I got the most discreet pair." He sighs and puts it back in.
"Do you wear them all the time?" Sero spoke up.
"I don't wear them at night so that's why I'm asleep early and up so early. If I didn't sleep early then I wouldn't trust myself to be awake on time. Since I can't hear an alarm I need to make sure that I'm up."
"Oh shit. That makes sense. Sorry for teasing you about it bro." Kaminari panics.
"Literally Shut the fuck up. You didn't know. Some days I don't wear them. They can give you major fucking headache sometimes. Especially when you're near a dude who's quirk is electricity." Kaminari looks down. "I'm fucking kidding. Its not your fault. But since I wear them most days sometimes my head kills and I just don't wear them."
"Anyway Bakugo I've got to say. You work well with kids." Aizawa says.
"Shut it."
"Why? You were very ... sweet."
"Shut the fuck up!"
