Do you remember? (Jikook)

Summary:

Jimin is laying by the beach and remembering the fun things he's done with Jungkook.

Notes:

I don't usually write these kinds of fics and it's really short for something I usually write, but I don't have too much time to elaborate on it. But either way, I hope you enjoy it. p.s. it was written in an hour and was inspired by a song titled Youth by Asgier (listen to it if you can, it kinda sets the mood)
p.s.s. this is not edited and it will probably remain so because I don't wanna go through that again :(

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was cold. The sky was dark with clouds that threaten to pour down at any moment, the sea waves were hitting the shore with different intervals of speed and momentum. Jimin was laying down on the hard part of the beach that's been hardened by previous waves. He's looking at the clouds that are above him and don't seem like they're going to let up any time soon. He guesses that the time is around four or five p.m, he's not too sure though. It could be high noon for all he knows. He moves his right leg left to right to remind himself that he's here now, he does the same with his left leg. He distantly thinks he should have worn better clothes for the weather instead of going out in his jeans, a white sweater and a windbreaker that seemed to allow air inside instead of keeping it on the outside.

He sighs as he closes his eyes and waits. The cold wind whips his short hair around the sand and he could feel sand already clamping down on his hair strands as he loses feeling of his nose. He opens his eyes slowly again as he feels the vibration of the waves and the body that came to lay down next to his. He takes a deep, foggy breath as he turns to smile at his boyfriend, his boyfriend smiles back at him and stares with warmth in his eyes that could rival the warmest blanket.

"Why did you take so long to get here? I'm about to freeze my nose off." Jimin chuckled.

"Yeah, sorry, there was an accident on the way here and had to wait it out," Jungkook answers back. The warmth still there.

"Oh, no. Was anyone hurt too bad?"

"I don't think so, the cars weren't smashed too badly. Most of the damage was on the bumper on the car that hit the other," Jungkook explained with a slight look of confusion.

Jimin hmmed in response and tried to shuffle closer to Jungkook. He chuckled a bit as he remembered something, "Hey, do you remember when we were in freshman year of high school when we got chased out of the finale game?"

Jungkook laughed, "how can I ever forget? Everyone saw us moon the crowd and the team on the big screen. It was hilarious!"

Jimin laughed louder this time as he remembered how they came up to the idea of attending the football finale game, that they did not care for, to be honest, and decided to basically show their butts. They didn't think it would be caught by the camera but the camera happened to zoom to their section when they did it. He remembers how some of the students that really cared for the game were yelling at them and trying to throw their drinks too, but they were too far in the back to really care about that either. He remembers holding Jungkook's firm, bony hands as they ran from one of the really pissed off players. He remembers the rush of it all that left them breathless and making out behind the school where they successful hid from that guy.

Jungkook sighed as he laced his hand with Jimin's, he instantly felt the warmth that flooded his system and closed his eyes a bit at the comforting feeling. It's been so long since he last touched those hands, ever since Jungkook went to another university. Jimin was really sad about that but he felt that he could live with seeing Jungkook whenever they could. They could still call, text, and video chat, it wasn't really the end of their world. But life doesn't really take that into consideration as they both delve into uni life and barely have time to sleep. He still doesn't mind it because he knows Jungkook loves him and he can't imagine his life without him either.

"Do you remember when we first kissed?" Jimin asks in a whisper.

Jungkook squeezes his hand as he gives him the same warm smile, "yeah, every time I kiss you feels like the first time." He replies with the same level of whisper.

Jimin rolls his eyes, "don't be so cheesy." He smiles at the small "heyyy" from Jungkook and squeezes Jungkook's hand back.

Their first kiss was nothing special when compared to others. They were both testing the waters out because Jimin already knew he was gay by the age of fourteen, he wasn't out to the school and only Jungkook and his parents knew of it. Jungkook was curious about the whole thing and kept asking Jimin questions that he didn't know how to answer, Jungkook and he were the same age so it was only normal for Jungkook to want to know more about the whole thing and try and understand it for the sake of his best friend. Jimin could barely answer one question only to be asked another question that he didn't even think about.

It was only when Jungkook came to the topic of kissing where he began to stutter in his wording, avoid making direct eye-contact with him, blushing madly, and asking questions that barely made sense to Jimin such as, 'would kissing a guy feel the same as kissing a girl?' It was only then that Jimin exasperatedly said, "then why don't you kiss me and see if it feels the same or not?"

Jimin didn't really mean that Jungkook had to kiss him but low and behold, Jungkook swooped down without even thinking much of it, and crashed his lips on Jimins'. When he realized what was happening, Jungkook was already smacking his lips with a confused expression on his face. "Um... why didn't it feel bad?"

Jimin could only feel his face as it burst like a red balloon at a kids' party. He could only reply with, "t-that was my first k-kiss..." Jungkook looked at him for a minute or so before smiling widely, "mine too!" Jimin could do nothing but laugh at how excited his friend was.

It didn't even take them too long after that for Jungkook to ask him on a date.

A cold wave touched the bottom of his jean and he almost yelped at the cold water that touched his skin, but he forced himself to relax as Jungkook laughed a little at his reaction. He watched as the corner of Jungkook's eyes crinkled and his eyes turned into small half-moons. Jimin holds on tightly to the hand that's holding his, he knows the warmth of it won't last and he's trying so hard not to start crying. He sniffles and looks back at the sky that's getting darker, he's not sure if that means the sun is going down or the storm is closer. He clears his throat and takes a deep, cold breath, "do you remember Annie from the graduation party?"

Jungkook seems to smile fondly at the memory, "of course. She was such a bother when we tried to drink something and she would just glare at us from the corner."

"Yeah, it was always so funny to tease her about how uptight she was for a babysitter that didn't even babysit us anymore."

Annie is the babysitter that Jungkook and Jimin had to share, she was a teenager but she was extremely responsible and not 'fun' in their definition. She took her job so seriously that they barely see her get out of character not even once in the five years she had to babysit them. They didn't usually stay all in the same house but Jimin's parents preferred Jungkook to be with Jimin instead of both of them being separated when both sets of parents were out together. When they finally graduated from high school their parents allowed them to have a part, but as parties go, alcohol has to be involved at some point. It was only safe to invite Annie to maybe have some fun, spoilers, she didn't.

She sat in the same place for the whole duration of the night, staring at either Jungkook or Jimin and whenever they held a glass or a cup of something suspicious she would glare at them until they broke out in laughter or pretended to be scared of her. He can never forget how she complained to their parents about the party and they just had to nod and give her extra money for her troubles. He isn't even surprised that she owns a business that's doing quite well in a competitive market.

Jimin could feel his heartache painfully as he feels the warmth in his hand fading. The tears are there before he could fight it back, he turns his head to Jungkook, "d-do you remember o-our last day together?" Jimin was barely able to ask through the choked back sobs.

Jungkook looks at him with equal sadness in his eyes, but the warmth in them never left, "yes, baby. It was the best day of my life."

His last day with Jungkook was as normal as any other day. They met at the same spot that worked as a secret place for them and it was within equal distance from their universities. Jungkook came a bit late, as usual, rushing through the sand with the picnic basket that Jungkook already knows is full of fast food instead of a meal he did. Jimin was already there because the time they choose began after his classes have already ended. The sky had a few scattered cotton-shaped clouds coupled with a cool breeze that made the day perfect for a picnic. They stayed there from three to five p.m. every Friday or until the sun went down then they would either go their separate ways or go back to one of their apartments.

They would take turns on who would bring the food each week and Jungkook always brought fast food because he never really learns from his mistakes. But Jimin still loved him the same, they've been going strong for almost 22 years. It sounds dramatic but they've known each other since they were in diapers so that always helps.

On that day, Jimin really wanted to stay more with Jungkook so he tried asking to go back to either of their apartments but Jungkook kept saying that he was sleepy. Oh, how Jimin wishes he forced him into his car and drove back home, oh how he wishes that he would allow Jungkook to rest a bit before he drove back the one and a half-hour drive back to his place. Jimin has so many regrets when it comes to that day that he's not sure if they are well-placed or not. Jimin had relented and agreed that he should go back on his own.

He doesn't remember much of the call he received that informed him that Jungkook seemed to have closed his eyes for a little bit on the road and hit another car. He just remembers feeling his never-ends set on fire as pain that exceeded the boundaries of any physical and mental pain he could ever feel. Nothing felt the same after that, he walked around like a shell of Jimin. He could barely keep up with his studies and had to take a gap year just to comprehend the amount of pain he would have to live through.

Oh how Jimin wishes he could have said or done something that would make Jungkook stay longer and kiss him one more time. But he'll have to live through this life without having to feel that warmth again. He'll have to live through this life without seeing those crinkly eyes again. He'll have to live knowing Jungkook will never hold his hand again.

A sob breaks out from the depth of Jimin's chest as the image of Jungkook's face becomes blurry from the tears. "I m-miss you so much, Kookie. I-" A sob broke his sentence as he felt the faintest of pressure on his hand. "I didn't want you to leave, i-I t-tried to stay strong for so long. B-But I can't anymore, I-I can't move on. I don't know how to live in this world without you by my side."

The warmth is completely gone now, all he can feel is the cold waves hitting his empty palm as he cries to the sky. He never broke his promise of coming to their meeting place every Friday just hoping to see Jungkook one more time. He knows it's not right or healthy for him to do this but he could never live through every Friday without seeing the beach where they always met at. He shakily sits up and sees that the water have reached under his thighs. He stands on shaky legs as tears keep running down his face.

He knows it's going to hurt but he also knows that the pain will one day end. This feeling cannot stay the same forever, he knows he will be able to remember Jungkook without having to feel his heart ripped out of his chest. But, until that day comes, he'll always stop by the beach to catch one last glimpse of Jungkook.

Notes:

I'm glad you reached the end. If you cried, congratulations. If you didn't, also, congratulations. Let me know if you liked this or not, would love any kind of feedback ^_^
