Work Text:

Yuu whined and bundled himself up on the sofa. He’d woken up feeling nauseous and woozy, shivering even under the biggest, fluffiest blanket in the house. Of course he ended up sick on his day off. Mika had already left for work by the time Yuu woke up, so he wasn’t there to dote on him. At least he had made it from their bedroom to the living room. He barely managed to get himself a glass of water before becoming one with the couch. His eyelids felt heavy again and he dozed off, wrapped up in a blanket burrito.

He awoke to the sound of the front door opening. He poked his head out of his cocoon to see Mika closing the door behind him, toeing off his shoes at the entryway. Mika’s home already? He thought. How long have I been out? Mika turned around and saw Yuu, smiling softly at him.

“I’m home,” he greeted.

Yuu smiled back and spoke, his voice much more nasally than usual, thanks to his blocked sinuses. “Welcome home, Mika,” he said, punctuated with a sniffle.

Mika’s heart stopped. He rushed to Yuu’s side, kneeling in front of the couch and pressing the back of his hand to Yuu’s forehead. “Yuu-chan? Are you sick? What’s wrong? Have you taken any medicine?”

Yuu coughed and retracted back into his blanket nest. “No, I just slept all day.”

Mika frowned. “What are your symptoms?”

“Stuffy nose,” he mumbled. That much was obvious. “Headache… and I’ve been kinda nauseous…”

Mika huffed and stood, going to rifle through the medicine cabinet to see what would be best for Yuu.  “You have a fever, too, so I think this would be best,” he said, bringing over some cold medicine pills and a small jar of medicated chest rub. “And this will help you breathe a little easier for now.”

He sat back at Yuu’s side, holding out the medicine for him. Yuu took it with the water sitting on the side table. Mika uncapped the jar and held it out, too. Yuu scooped a little out to rub on his chest and his upper lip, sighing happily at the little bit of instant relief it gave him. Mika smiled and screwed the cap back on, setting it on the side table next to Yuu’s water. He gently scratched his scalp, watching Yuu’s face as his eyes closed again.

“I assume you don’t have an appetite?” Mika asked. “Have you eaten today?”

Yuu shook his head. “Nah… Haven’t wanted to eat all day,” he whined.

“You need to eat, Yuu-chan,” Mika said, eyebrows knitted together in a frown. “Maybe some toast? Or soup?”

Yuu hummed at the thought of the warm soup soothing the chill in his bones. “Soup might be nice…” he murmured.

Mika nodded and went to the kitchen, pulling a saucepan from the cupboard and turning on the stove to heat it up. He opened the pantry. “Chicken noodle?” he called.

“Of course!” Yuu said, pouting. “That’s the only acceptable soup to give to a sick person!”

Mika chucked and grabbed a can, opening it into the saucepan and stirring it occasionally.

In the time it took for Mika to heat up the soup and pour it into a bowl, Yuu had drifted back to sleep. He brought the bowl out to the living room and set it on the table before gently nudging Yuu’s shoulder. “Yuu-chan…” he whispered. “Yuu-chan, your soup is ready.”

Yuu grumbled and rubbed at his eyes grumpily. “Feed it to me,” he huffed.

Mika sighed. Even though Yuu was perfectly capable of feeding himself, Mika would never dare to deny a request from Yuu, especially when sick. “Sit up,” he said.

Yuu sat up on the couch with the blanket still wrapped around his shoulders. He closed his eyes and opened his mouth.

Mika scooped a spoonful of soup from the bowl and blew on it gently to cool it down enough to not burn Yuu’s mouth. He held a hand under the spoon as he brought it to Yuu’s lips, gently holding his chin as Yuu drank the broth.

He fed Yuu the soup until the bowl was empty, leaving him on the couch to wash it quickly in the sink before returning. Yuu held his arms out and made a grabbing motion with his hands, wanting Mika to lay on the couch with him. Mika crossed his arms.

“No, Yuu-chan. You’re sick. If you get me sick, then I wouldn’t be able to take care of you,” he said simply.

Yuu whined and thrashed a little before settling back into the blanket. “Will you at least scratch my head until I fall asleep?” he asked.

Mika sighed again but smiled a little this time. “Of course.” He knelt beside the couch and played with Yuu’s hair for a bit before scratching his scalp lovingly.

Yet again, Yuu dozed off quickly. Once his breathing evened out and Mika could tell he had fallen asleep, he kissed his forehead before rising back to his feet. “Goodnight, Yuu-chan,” he said. “I love you.”

He made himself a makeshift bed on the floor next to the couch in case Yuu needed anything, soon falling asleep as well.
