Work Text:
Jungkook was making his way across campus towards the dance studio. With all his other classes done for the day he was looking forward to some relaxing. Well, relaxing wasn’t the right word exactly. He was majoring in dance and the showcase he was in was coming up soon. He and Jimin had been working their asses off for the last couple of weeks, months perfecting their performance. At his point it was more a case of getting rid of some minor issues and just perfecting it to its fullest potential. It took a lot of hard work en dedication but he loved it. As much work as it was it always helped him relax and just empty his mind for a few hours.
When he was just a two minute walk away from the studio a flash of mint green caught his eye. About twenty metres in front of him he spotted him. Min Yoongi. He only saw his back but Jungkook knew it was him. The way he walked, his posture, his walk, his outfit, the hair. Not that this was a problem per se. He didn’t have any problems with Yoongi. No, the problem was quite the opposite. He had a major crush on the guy. He first saw him at the beginning of the semester. He was just walking past. Not doing anything special, not even looking at Jungkook but Jungkook was gone. He was sure his mouth fell open when he walked past. He had never seen someone to pretty yet so intimidating at the same time. He was a little smaller then Jungkook in height and skinnier. Where Jungkook was mostly muscle and broad shouldered Yoongi was more delicately built but he still looked very intimidating with his torn jeans, leather jacket and worn Doc Martens. People sort of went out of his way as he walked, afraid he was going to bite their head off or something. His look was very punk rock and Jungkook loved it.
Ever since his first encounter he kept seeing him around. He always admired him from afar. Not confident enough to actually approach him. He never interacted with him what so ever. Don’t get him wrong Jungkook knew he was well…good looking. He wasn’t stuck up about it or anything. But people had always sort of let him know. Not just his friends but the longing looks and flirting he got were also a good indication. A week rarely went by without him being approached one or two times by girls and sometimes boys. They always looked so nervous when approaching him. All shaking hands and not quite meeting his gaze. Some obviously being pushed by their friends who were watching from a distance, looking if their friend was going to be rejected or not. Ready to console if necessary. He turned most of them down, always trying to do so in the most kind way possible. Being mean just didn’t sit well with him. He accepted some of course. So yes, he had dates, yes he had sex quite regularly, yes he had attention. But it never meant that much to him. He was never THAT attracted or interested in them. Always having to let them down as soon as things started to get serious. It’s different with Min Yoongi. The only reason Jungkook even knew his name was because one of his friends had yelled it across the street one time to get his attention, much to the irritation of Yoongi himself if his facial expression was anything to go by. If he were to be rejected by him, well, Jungkook doesn’t think his heart could take that.
He saw Yoongi take a left turn up ahead. Well that could just be a coincidence. When he took the same turn he was just in time to see Yoongi enter the dance studio. Jungkook’s brain short circuited a bit to the point where he actually stopped in the middle of the street to process what he just saw. He NEVER saw Yoongi in there. He had no idea why he would be there. As far as Jungkook knew he didn’t take any dance classes, also didn’t seem the type for it. Maybe he just needed to drop something off? Maybe he mistakenly entered the studio? Realising he was just standing there, in the middle of the street, staring ahead, looking weird, he snapped out of it. He continued his way towards the studio but at half the pace just to give himself more time to adjust to the idea that the guy he had been lusting after for months was going to be in there as well.
More nervous than ever he opened the door to the studio itself. He saw Yoongi greet Hoseok, his instructor, with a “bro” hug. Hearing Hoseok say “Don’t look so grumpy. Its only for one or two hours then we can leave. Besides I think you’ll… Oh hey Jungkook!” Jungkook looked towards Hoseok and couldn’t help but smile. The older, with his sunny personality, always made him smile for some reason. At that moment Yoongi also turned around to face him and continued to drop his bag on the floor upon making eye contact with Jungkook. “Fuck” he heard Yoongi hiss while retrieving is bag from the floor. Hoseok seemed quite amused about the whole semi-interaction and turned to Jungkook to say “Kook, this is my best friend Yoongi. You don’t mind if he hangs out here while you guys rehearse do you? We’re going out after and I thought he could just wait here till we’re done.” A smile never left Hoseok face while taking.
Jungkook surprised himself when he spoke. Because well, he thought either his voice would sound way too high to be considered normal or no sound would come out at all. So when he smoothly said “Sure, I don’t mind.” He mentally high fived himself. “Ok, great! Just start warming up with Jimin and we’ll start in 5 minutes ok?” Hoseok said. Not trusting his voice again he simply smiled and nodded. He also gave Yoongi a small nod, as a sort of greeting he guesses, and made his way towards the other side of the room. Jungkook couldn’t remember the last time he felt so self-conscious while taking off his zipped up hoodie. Normally he would do so without even thinking. But Min fucking Yoongi was here and that just wasn’t fair. How was he going to survive the whole session with him being there? How was he going to concentrate? He was going to embarrass himself he just knew it. He needed to focus. Yoongi probably had no interest in a kid like Jungkook. He would probably be on his phone the entire time. “Get over it Jeon” he mumbled to himself. He took of his hoodie and adjusted the white tank top he had on underneath. One deep breath later he turned around to make his way towards Jimin. Very much not looking in Yoongi’s direction. There was one thing he was thankful for right now. And that was that Jimin didn’t know anything about his crush on Yoongi. If he did he would be making Jungkook’s life a living hell right now. He had not told anyone about his crush because Jimin or Taehyung would have pushed him to pursue it. Or worse, go behind his back and approach Yoongi on his behalf. No, he couldn’t risk that so he never told them, thank god.
To his own surprise practice went really well. At first he was very nervous, he couldn’t count the times he chanced a glance at Yoongi trough the mirror the first 5 minutes. But as expected the older boy was mostly on his phone typing away furiously, not giving them or Jungkook any attention. He then somehow managed to push the thought of Yoongi sitting there to the back of his mind. Getting lost in de moves and listening to Hoseok’s instructions. Time passed quickly then, like it always did when he danced. Al to soon Hoseok announced “Ok guys, that’s enough for today. Keep this up and you’ll kill it at the showcase!”. Jungkook and Jimin smiled wildly at each other. Jungkook lifted his shirt to wipe off the sweat that had gathered on his brow. He walked back towards his bag with Jimin. His friend was ecstatic because he finally nailed a particular move he was having trouble with. “See, hyung! Don’t doubt yourself so much.” Jungkook told him while slinging an arm around his neck and bringing him in close for a hug while they walked.
“Jimin, Kook, you guys wanna join us for drinks? Were just going to that little bar across the street” Hoseok asked. Now, this wasn’t a rare thing. They went out to get a drink after practice quite often. Never staying long because they were all sweaty and gross and wanted to shower but it was a fun way to close the day. Yoongi’s eyes were shooting daggers at Hoseok leading Jungkook to think that he didn’t really want them to come along. “Um” he eloquently said. “Sure hyung!” Jimin then chirped. And ok, they were actually doing this now. If he would make up an excuse not to go, Jimin would know something was up immediately. So when he followed the others outside waiting on Hoseok to close up, he tried to be as casual as possible without over doing it. Once they were all seated in a booth, all with drinks in hand he still felt very uncomfortable. Hoseok and Jimin carried the conversation for the most part at first. It seems Jungkook and Yoongi were both the introverts of the friend couples. If he was with people he knew Jungkook could be the loudest person around but as soon as someone new was there he would turn quiet. He wasn’t shy, there was huge difference between being shy and being introverted. But he just needed to feel a bit more at ease to let loose. Now that the “new” person was Yoongi, well, that just didn’t help at all. He thought he saw the older boy look at him from time to time, like when he laughed, but he could just be seeing wat he wanted to see. “So what are you majoring in Yoongi?” Jimin asked suddenly. Jungkook would be lying if he said he wasn’t curious about this himself so he turned to Yoongi to await his answer. The older boy seemed a bit flustered at the fact that suddenly all the attention was on him, but he cleared his throat and answered calmly “I-uh, I’m majoring in music production. Just started my last year.”. Jungkook didn’t know what he was expecting Yoongi to say but music production seemed to fit perfectly with him. It was also something he, himself. had considered a possibility but ultimately dance was where his hart was. His mouth then decided, without consent from his brain, to blurt out “Wow. That’s so cool!”. And then his mouth, the traitor, also decided to smile widely at Yoongi. Yoongi’s eyes seemed to widen a bit at his outburst but soon enough a careful smile took over his face “Yeah, yeah I think so. Doesn’t really feel like work for me, because I love it so much”. “I Totally know what you mean. I have the same with dancing. Although some of the other mandatory classes are a real pain”. Jungkook then learned that Yoongi was surprisingly easy to talk to. He seemed genuinely interested in what he had to say and the conversation flowed easily. After about an hour though, the week really started to catch up to Jungkook. When he had yawned for the sixth time in two minutes he decided he needed to get home. He really enjoyed getting to know Yoongi better, finally, but he had work tomorrow and he knew if he wasn’t in bed within an hour or two he was going to sleep through his alarm. So, albeit reluctantly, he slowly got up and announced that he really should be going. Jimin decided to go as well. He lived in the same building as Jungkook only a couple floors lower. They said their goodbye’s to Hoseok and Yoongi and made their way outside.
“So you and Yoongi really seemed to get a long huh?” his friend asked in a teasing tone when they turned the first corner. Jungkook’s brain alarm went off immediately, screaming at him to do damage control. There was always a fine line between acting casual but not too casual. If he would cross that line Jimin’s built in bullshit detector would go off. “Yeah he was actually pretty cool” he tried. “Hmmhmm, just cool Jungkookie?” the teasing tone had increased this time so he knew he went over the invisible line somewhere during his last sentence. “Yeah its cool talking to someone who has the same music taste. Good music taste, hyung.” He elbowed Jimin in his side lightly. “Hey, I take offence to that!” he replied while going on about why Justin Bieber deserved more recognition than he got. Jungkook internally sighed in relief. He had managed to deflected Jimin’s probing, for now at least.
The following week went by without much happening on the Yoongi side. He didn’t see him at college and at the dance training on Tuesday he wasn’t there. Hoseok asked him if he had a good time last Friday to which he answered that yes, he did. And that was that. The week after that he saw him walk across campus once and, when they made eye contact, he chanced a little wave at him. To his surprise Yoongi had returned the gesture. It wasn’t much but it made Jungkook’s heart flutter. A couple days after that he passed Yoongi while entering the building where his class was. He was talking to a tall guy with glasses. While he was wondering who the tall guy was he heard a “Hey Jungkook” beside him. A group of girls, some of which he shared a class with had al said that in unison while giggling shyly when he looked in their direction. “Hi girls” he said back not really caring that much and not stopping his walk. The group broke out in even more giggles and he thought he heard the words “cute” and “hot” being said. Not paying them anymore attention he looked towards Yoongi again. Who was now looking at him as well. No doubt after hearing the girls. He was wearing his red and black plaid shirt, Jungkook always thought he looked good when he wore that. He didn’t stop walking, because well, he was already late, but he greeted Yoongi nonetheless. “Hi Yoongi” he said. Short but simple, he nailed it. Yoongi nodded as a greeting “Hey Jungkook” followed. He didn’t know who Yoongi was talking to but he was good looking and older than Jungkook. He felt a pang of jealousy overtake him. He reasoned with himself that that was nonsense. They could just be friends. Yoongi could even be straight. He didn’t know his sexual orientation. “Get over it Jeon” he repeated to himself again.
Three weeks after he had went to the bar with Jimin, Hoseok and Yoongi, Hoseok approached them again after dance practice. “Guys, me and a couple of friends are going to that new club downtown tomorrow. “Lush” I think it’s called. You guys wanna join us?”. “You consider us your friends now hyung?” Jimin chirped. Hoseok laughed saying that he saw them so much is was hard to not consider them friends. Meanwhile in Jungkook’s mind he wondered if by “friends” Hoseok also meant Yoongi. In the end they decided to go also taking Taehyung, who was always in for some fun, along with them. When they entered the club he immediately looked around to see if he could spot Hoseok, and with that, Yoongi. He had really tried his best with his outfit. He put on his tight jeans with a couple of fashionable rips in them combined with a slightly large, sleeveless, black, button up shirt that accentuated is biceps. He looked hot. Although that was what Jimin had said to him. They finally spotted Hoseok at the bar chatting with Yoongi. “Tall guy” was there as well, he wasn’t talking to Yoongi but to an another very good looking person. Hoseok started waving them over and while he was doing so Yoongi turned to see who he was waving to. His mouth dropped slightly when seeing them and if Jungkook didn’t know any better he could have sworn Yoongi’s eyes sweeping over him, checking him out. He then turned to Hoseok to, by the looks of it, continue their conversation. It seemed serious.
Half an hour later Jungkook had learned that “Tall guy’s” name was actually Namjoon and the other guy’s name was Jin who was Namjoon’s boyfriend. So, no threat there. After a couple of shots he felt a pleasant buzz flow through him. He wasn’t drunk but he was influenced enough for him to let go a bit. He and Yoongi hadnt talked much yet, just a quick “How are you” being exchanged but the night was still young. It didn’t take long for Jimin and Hoseok to drag him onto the dancefloor. Jungkook didn’t mind honestly. After being stuck practicing the same routine over and over again it felt good to just do whatever he wanted and joke around. He stayed for a couple of songs and after doing the entire dance routine to Michael Jacksons Thriller to a song that definitely wasn’t Thriller with his friends he decided he needed a new drink. He saw Yoongi slouch against the bar stirring his drink with a straw, eyes scanning the dancefloor looking almost bored. Jin, Namjoon and Taehyung had disappeared somewhere and it didn’t take long for him to spot hem on the dancefloor as well. The three of them grinding on each other. Taehyung had always been quite adventurous with his hook-ups so it didn’t surprise him to see him dancing with not one but two guys.
He sat on the seat next to Yoongi giving him a, he hoped, stunning smile. The alcohol had taken the edge of enough for him to be at least a little bolder. Yoongi smirked at him “You looked like you were having fun out there.” “Yeah I was” he laughed “You don’t dance hyung?”. “Nah, not really my thing. I’ll leave that to people like you”. “People like me hyung?” he asked tilting his head slightly. God, was he flirting with Yoongi now? The alcohol having weakened the hold his brain had on his mouth. “Yeah, you know, people that know what they’re doing. People that look good”. He could swear he could see the other older boy blushing slightly, the speed with which he was stirring his drink excelling.
“You think I look good?” he then asked feeling more confident after seeing Yoongi’s reaction to his last question. Could he actually have a chance here? With Yoongi? He didn’t think he was Yoongi’s type but, maybe… “Well yeah, you look like you take care of yourself. Plus your face isn’t like, totally awful” Yoongi was clearly squirming a bit. “Ok, not sure if that’s a compliment but I’ll take it” he said. “Your face isn’t totally awful either”. Yoongi looked up at him, eyes wide. He then coughed a little “Can I get you a drink then?” Yoongi asked. “Sure! Get me something you think I’ll like.”. Yoongi turned to the bar to order. And while they waited he could see a good friend of his approach him. Jenny, a girl who he had dated for like a month last year walked towards him. They stayed friends after their uneventful break-up and still hung out from time to time. “Kookie!” she exclaimed and threw her arms around him. His hands found their way to her waist on auto-pilot. She then whispered in his ear “Please Kook, help me out here. This guy won’t leave me alone. I told him I’m already taken but he just won’t go”. He looked over her shoulder and sure enough a sleazy looking guy was eyeing the two of them. “Jenny, Jenny, Jenny, driving all the guys crazy again” he teased swinging his arm around her neck bringing her closer. “Shut up, Kook. You know I’m not like that”. And she really wasn’t. She was one of the kindest people he knew but she just had a tendency to attract the wrong people. “Don’t worry Jen I know”. He rocked her from side to side, holding her close in the hope of scaring the other guy away. After a minute she asked “Is he gone?”. He peeked over her shoulder again and thankfully the guy was nowhere to be seen. “Yep, he flew”. They released each other immediately and Jenny took a step back. “Thank you Kook. Glad I spotted you. Are you here alone?” she then asked. “No I’m with…” he said while looking to his side, gesturing with his hand to… no one. Yoongi wasn’t there anymore. “Oh, with some friends, their dancing.” He finished his sentence although he couldn’t quite hide the confused tone in his voice. “Ok well, have fun then I guess. And thanks again!” Jenny then took her leave.
The drink Yoongi ordered him stood alone on the bar. At first he thought he might have gone to the bathroom. But when he didn’t come back after ten minutes and we wasn’t with his other friends he knew. Yoongi had left.
Stupid, stupid, stupid! Fucking hell, did he really think he had a chance? With someone like Jeon Jungkook? Fucking Hoseok with his fucking convincing speeches! Yoongi was walking, well stomping home. He didn’t live that far away from the club. Maybe half an hours walk. Probably twenty minutes with the speed he was walking with right now. He didn’t know what got in to him earlier. The way Jungkook had looked and smiled at him with his stupid big eyes and stupid crinkly nose. How the hell did he even think that meant something? God, he should have known. The second the pretty, petite girl walked up to Jungkook and grabbed him he knew. He had always known.
He never planned on doing anything about his little infatuation with the younger after first seeing him last year. The boy was good looking and quite popular he learned quickly. A lot of girls and boys were interested in him. Not that Yoongi was interested in gossip or went out of his way to learn things about him. But it was hard to miss. The googly eyes people gave him when he walked past, people just randomly talking about him in the booth next to Yoongi’s in the coffee shop. Of course all this also meant that Jungkook was way out of his league. The younger could have anyone he wanted. It didn’t bother him to much at first. Yoongi was quite good at putting feelings aside if needed. Besides, it was just a crush, it would pass. It worked for a while. Pushing the jealous feeling down when he learned Jungkook had gotten a new girlfriend or boyfriend. Always pretty, beautiful people, nothing like Yoongi with his grunge/punk look meant to scare people. Ignoring the way that, this supposed fuckboy, would look almost uncomfortable and anxious when approached by people. His legs bouncing nervously when tuning them down. Almost like his personality didn’t fit his fuckboy image to a point where it was almost endearing. It was fine. Yoongi was fine. His infatuation wasn’t growing, no, definitely not.
It all came tumbling down a few weeks ago when Hoseok had unfortunately caught him staring at the boy. Jungkook was standing across the street from where he and his best friend were sitting in a coffee shop. By the looks of it waiting for the bus. Suddenly a pair of hands covered his eyes and a teasing Hoseok had said “Who are those hart eyes for hyung?”. “What are you talking about, was just looking outside” he replied rolling his eyes. “Yeah, you missed like, the last two minutes of what I was saying” his friend retorted. He then looked outside himself in the direction Yoongi had been staring. “Jungkook? You like Jungkook?” he then said. Now, normally Yoongi would have denied. Normally he would have given a sarcastic comment dismissing the accusation. But Yoongi was a little thrown by the fact that Hoseok knew who Jungkook was. He was also very tired. He managed a weak “Shut up Hobi” feeling his cheeks heating up slightly. “Oh. My. God! You totally like him!” Hoseok was practically bouncing in his seat right now from excitement. And Yoongi just, well, sort of broke down then. Not to tears but enough for Hoseok to do a 180 and comfort him. That night Yoongi had confessed everything to Hoseok over a bottle of wine. About liking Jungkook for almost a year now. That he tried and tried not to. That he loved his eyes and smile. That he sometimes fantasised about what his body must look like. That he would kill Hoseok if he ever told anyone. Hoseok, the good friend that he was, had listened to him not saying much himself until Yoongi was done. “Hyung, I now Kook, he’s a good kid, kind. Why don’t you just try to at least get to know him? I know you think you’re not worthy or something but that’s nonsense. You’re a good looking guy, even if you try to deny it. Plus I think music wise you have a lot in common. I could introduce you like, casually sometime.” He really loved his friend then. Instead of making fun of him he really seemed to care and wanted to make him happy. “I don’t know Hobi. I’m not sure if I’m ready for that yet.”.
He then continued to be “not ready for that yet” for the next couple of weeks and he could see Hoseok getting more and more frustrated with him. But he just needed to understand that this was a big thing for Yoongi. He didn’t wat to rush things.
Hoseok obviously begged to differ because when he met up with him in the dance studio he didn’t miss the grin his best friend gave him when Jungkook walked in. Did he say he loved his friend? Well, he hated him now. How could he do this to him? He was stuck in a dance studio having to watch him dance and get sweaty? How on earth did Hoseok think that would be a good idea? The tank top he was wearing left not much to the imagination especially when it started to get moist with sweat. And then, when he was done, Jungkook actually had the nerve to lift his shirt up exposing his perfect abs. Yoongi almost chocked on his own spit then. God the guy was perfect. He could just imagine Jungkook lifting him up against the wall and ruining him.
Later that evening he was surprised to find out that Jungkook and he did have a lot in common music wise. He hated to admit that Hoseok had been right and that the boy was easy to get along with. Yoongi didn’t get along with a lot of people, well not so quickly anyway. When Jungkook and his friend left he was quick to go off to Hoseok for springing this on him like that. His friend had apologised but had said Yoongi had left him no other option. “Just get to know him hyung. I’m not asking you to fucking propose to him! I just want to give you a small push in the right direction. I think you two would look really good together though. Just take a risk every now and then.” And, well, that blew up in his face didn’t it? Just as he mustered up the courage to try and flirt with Jungkook he was easily replaced by one of the “beautiful people”. Yoongi felt like an idiot. Jungkook must have had a good laugh with his new girlfriend about him. The punk guy that thought he actually he had a chance. He felt so embarrassed.
When he got home he started to get messages from his friends in the group chat all wondering where he went.
Not feeling up to talking about the real reason he just answered that he suddenly felt sick, which wasn’t a complete lie, and went home. He apologised for not telling them and that he was heading to bed hoping that would satisfy them for now. They all wished him well and hoped he felt better soon. Sighing he was just about to throw his phone to the side when it chimed again. Hoseok had messaged him directly:
Hobi:
I’m coming over tomorrow. We’re talking.
The next day, after Yoongi had hardly slept because, well feelings, a lot of feelings, the door to his apartment opened. Hoseok had the keys and didn’t even bother knocking anymore much to Yoongi’s annoyance.
“You look like shit” was the first thing out of his friends mouth while handing him some coffee. Yoongi didn’t have an answer to that because he probably did. After they sat down on the sofa Hoseok jumped straight in “What happened at the club last night? And don’t bother lying about being sick because I know what kind of shit you look like when you’re sick and it’s not this kind of shit”. Yoongi sighed and debated lying anyway but he also knew Hoseok wouldn’t fall for it. So they sat down and he told him what happened. From the flirting to the blunt rejection he got. “I felt like an idiot Hobi. No offence but I never should have listened to you and I should have just went with my gut feeling. The kids a fuckboy. Always has been. Always will be. He was just toying with me.”
Hoseok who, to his credit, didn’t interrupt Yoongi once had a confused look on his face. “Hyung, that really doesn’t sound like Jungkook, like, at all. Are you sure you didn’t read the situation wrong? I mean he looked pretty upset that you left last night. Plus this mysterious girl wasn’t anywhere near Kookie the rest of the night”. Yoongi rolled his eyes “I know what I saw. They looked really cosy together. I didn’t read it wrong Hobi. Even if she isn’t his girlfriend he still used her to get me off his back. Just leave it alright. Let me be miserable for a few days. I’ll get over it.” His friend didn’t look convinced “Can I just say one more thing about it?” he continued without waiting for Yoongi’s answer “Like I said it really doesn’t sound like something the kid would do. Genuinely Yoongi, I really think there’s more to it. He did look very upset that you left and he didn’t have as much fun as before, I could tell. Just” he paused to sigh “try to be open to the possibility that your wrong about this. I care about you hyung and I want to see you happy. I still think Jungkook would be good for you. I wouldn’t say that if I thought he would hurt you like that. Have a little faith in me”. Yoongi was silent for a few second. Going over what Hoseok had said. He wasn’t convinced. Like he said he knew what he saw. “I know you mean well Hobi, I really do. But, fuck, just leave it.”. He didn’t sound angry but more defeated. He felt defeated. Hoseok sighed again but said no more about it “Wanna go out and grab something to eat? Im starving” he then said. “Fuck yeah, me too let’s go.” Yoongi was glad Hoseok had dropped the subject but somehow he knew this wasn’t going to be the end of it.
Jungkook hadnt seen Yoongi in almost three weeks now. After he suddenly disappeared at the club he seemed to have dropped of the earth entirely. Jungkook felt awful after Yoongi left. He got told by Hoseok that he was sick but he didn’t really believe that. Yoongi had appeared to be fine few minutes before he left. He couldn’t help but think he was the reason he did. Maybe Yoongi changed his mind about him? Maybe he saw him talk to Jenny and saw it as his opportunity to leave? He had never felt rejection like that before. It had really hurt him. He would have preferred it if Yoongi just told him to his face that he wasn’t interested instead of just leaving him like that.
There was no time to think about it now however. He needed to focus. Today was show day. He was both dreading and looking forward to it at the same time. He had his dance with Jimin and the dance with the whole class. Hoseok was also in the group dance because he choreographed it. He needed to push his thoughts about Yoongi out of his head for at least a couple of hours. He wasn’t about to let all his hard work be ruined by it. Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath he got ready to get up on the stage. Showtime.
Afterwards Hoseok congratulated him and Jimin on their performance. Their dance was by far the one that got the biggest applause from the audience. Jimin had teased him that the applause was mostly for Jungkook but he knew for a fact that wasn’t true. Jimin was mesmerizing when he danced, he just somehow didn’t see that himself. Hoseok asked them if they wanted to come to the after party at his apartment, the whole dance group would be there he said. Jungkook debated it. What where the odds of Yoongi being there as well? He didn’t dance, didn’t come to the show as far as he knew. But he was Hoseok’s best friend. As if Hoseok could see the doubt in his eyes he slung an arm around his neck “Come on Kookie, the whole group will be there, would be weird nog to come right? Just stay for like an hour or something”. He had a point, not going would probably be weird. They all worked so hard the last couple of months and leaving when they were going to celebrate didn’t feel right. He almost wanted to ask Hoseok if Yoongi was going to be there, not sure which answer he would prefer. In the end he just gave a confirmative nod and Jimin clapped his hands happily making Jungkook think that if he didn’t go Jimin would’ve probably also declined the invite, it was just the kind of friend he was.
He took a brief shower in the dressing rooms, cleansing himself from a lot of make-up and sweat and changed in to his almost standard outfit of jeans and a big black hoodie. His hair was a mess because he didn’t bring any product with him. He ran his hand trough it a couple of times trying to fix it only to give up. “Fuck it” he thought, he wasn’t out to empress tonight anyway. He met up with Jimin outside and together they walked to Hoseok’s apartment. On the way they talked about the show and how it went. Jimin already having ideas for the next one. The closer they got the apartment the more nervous he got. If Yoongi was there what would he do? Should he confront him? Ignore him? Act as if nothing happened? “You alright?” Jimin asked as they climbed the stairs to the third floor. “Yeah just tired” he lied. “Is this about that Yoongi guy?” Jimin asked again stopping just short of Hoseok’s front door. The wide eyed look Jungkook gave his friend must have been funny judging by the way he started giggling. “You’re not as subtle as you think you are Kookie” Jimin laughed ruffling Jungkook hair. “Hyung!” he said annoyed trying to fix his hair because well, he did try to style it a bit. “I saw the way you looked when he left the club that night. Didn’t say anything to you because I figured you would talk to me when you were ready. What happened?” Jimin looked concerned. Jungkook decided to just tell him, his pride be damned. Trying to change the subject or blowing it off as nothing wouldn’t work anymore. His friend knew him to well. “I don’t know hyung. I like him. Like, a lot. I’ve never felt more attracted to someone, ever. And that night I thought I might have a chance you know? Like, I thought he was flirting with me. So I did it back. But then as soon as I turned my back for two minutes he was gone. I don’t know what I did or if I just read him wrong? Either way he clearly isn’t in to me.”
Jimin squeezed his arm “Sorry to hear that Kook. You’re scared of running in to him yeah?” Jungkook nodded. “Well, if he is there I think you should talk to him. Hear him out for your own peace of mind. And if he’s a jerk just tell me and ill punch him in the face” he said so calmly that it was hilarious and all Jungkook could do was laugh. “Thanks hyung, I’ll think about it.” “Come on lets have some fun. He probably isn’t even here anyway. If you want we can talk more about it tomorrow. I’ll get the ice-cream”.
Once inside he was immediately greeted by the team, it looked like everyone wanted his or Jimin’s attention. Jungkook hated it. The crowd, the conversations he was forced to have. It drained is energy. He didn’t see Yoongi anywhere, at least not in the room he was in. He was relieved to be honest. After the nerves he had for the show today he was fine with not having the added anxiety of being confronted with him. He kept getting shots handed to him and suddenly he felt like all of them hit him at once. Slightly drunk he made his way towards the kitchen to get some water, planning on leaving after that. Just before he reached the door a hand tugged at his sleeve. Amy, a girl who was also in his dance class, smirked at him. “Can you get me a shot as well Kookie?”. He immediately disliked the fact that she called him that. That was a nickname only close friends were supposed to use for him. “I’m just getting some water” he meekly said, not wanting her to think she had a chance. “Ok well, just join me after you get our drinks. I’ll make it worth it for you”. She winked at him and he shuddered. He wasn’t in to her at all. Just the way she carried herself had always put him off, acting like she was better then everyone. Without saying anymore to her he continued to the kitchen thinking about how he was going to get out of this. Somehow he didn’t think being nice while turning her down would work, she would just misread it. And being down right mean to her was just something that he couldn’t do. Not even with her.
He stopped in his tracks when he saw a familiar figure standing at the kitchen counter pouring himself a drink. Yoongi. He looked good. His hair dyed freshly mint again. Black skinny jeans and a black sweater that swallowed him. Jungkook briefly considered backtracking his steps and fleeing the scene, not knowing how to handle this at all. Not after what happened. Before he could Yoongi spoke up “Ever the popular guy, right Jungkook?”. Jungkook thought he heard a hint of judgement in his voice but when Yoongi turned to face him he did have a small smile of his face. Out of all the people Jungkook had ever met he was sure Yoongi was the hardest to read. “Huh?” he asked because his brain was panicking right now and could find the file that contained full sentences apparently. Yoongi gestured towards the door with the hand he was holding his drink with “That girl”, the bitter tone in his voice slightly more apparent now. “Oh! Amy? I don’t want her. Don’t even like her. I was just getting water and then probably going to leave but she approached me and it doesn’t seem like she takes no for an answer and now I’m just thinking how to get out of it without being mean to her because I don’t like being mean however mean she is.” He was raking his hand through is hair nervously and dying a little inside because that definitely was a stupidly long sentence. Like his brain finally found the right file but because he was a nervous mess just decided to blur al the sentences together in one embarrassingly long one.
“Shit kid, calm down” Yoongi said looking surprised? Maybe? “Just stay in here with me for a while, I’m sure she’ll get the message”. “Oh? Ok, you don’t mind?” He couldn’t hide the surprise in his voice. Yoongi got him some water and handed it to him as an answer. They stood together awkwardly for half a minute. Jungkook almost thought that going out and facing Amy would be better than this. “You were really good tonight you know” the older boy started but kept his gaze down on his drink. “Y-you where there?” Jungkook asked. Yoongi nodded “Yeah, my best friend worked on that show for months. It meant a lot to him. Wouldn’t miss that for anything”. That made sense, although he was glad he didn’t know beforehand that Yoongi was there. He had been nervous enough without that knowledge. “Well I’m glad you liked it. Hoseok did a good job.”. They started a careful conversation from that point. Like they both didn’t know how the other felt about them. After a minute or two Jungkook’s urge to ask about the night at the club became stronger. After all wouldn’t be better to just know what happened instead of wondering and second guessing himself for the foreseeable future? Helped by the alcohol in his system he started “Hyung? C-can I ask you something?”. Yoongi who was is the process of pouring himself a new drink stopped and looked at him. Jungkook took that as a sign to continue. “That night at the club. Did, did I do something wrong? I just can’t help but think I did something.” He said fiddling with his sleeves. Yoongi’s expression remained stoic. “Don’t know what you mean. I just felt sick”. “But you were fine just a minute earlier! I just, I just thought that we, well that you were in to me? But then you left and I”. His rambling was suddenly interrupted by Yoongi who now definitely had an angry look on his face “Not everyone you meet is in to you, you know that right?! Don’t flatter yourself!” the older boy seethed. Before Jungkook could react he continued. “Besides you looked like you were having a really good time with that girl.” Jungkook was very confused now, not knowing what he did to deserve the anger directed at him “Girl? What girl?” he asked genuinely confused. “Don’t play dumb with me kid, she was all over you when I ordered your drink. Bet you had a good laugh with her about me, huh?” the hurt in the older boy’s voice came through in the last sentence. Suddenly it clicked in Jungkook’s brain. Damn, how could he not have seen how that might have looked to Yoongi? “You mean Jenny? Hyung she’s just a friend” he tried. “Yeah right, its ok Jungkook. You don’t have to justify yourself, I should have never been tempted by you. I’m the stupid one who thought you were something else that just a fuckboy.” Jungkook was hurt by that comment. He knew he had a reputation at college but he never liked it. It wasn’t like he got it on purpose. Just because he got a lot of attention didn’t mean he slept with everyone that came on to him. A lot of people assumed he did though and Yoongi seemed to be one of them. “Hyung, she really is just a friend! I helped her out. There was this guy who was bugging her and wouldn’t leave her alone. I just helped her by giving him the idea that she was taken… I never, god this is stupid, I never thought about how that would have looked to you”. He hung his head. Yoongi remained where he was but his mouth was slightly open. Jungkook felt his lip wobble, he was so tired of people having the wrong impression of him. “Despite of what you might think I am actually a decent human being. I have this reputation for some reason but I-I hate it. I don’t like parties, I don’t like crowds, I don’t like talking to strangers and I don’t actually sleep with everyone who so much as looks at me. I have some standards”.
Yoongi suddenly was in front of him and gently grabbed his hands. Jungkook lifted his head slightly so their eyes met. “Jungkook, I, you, you were actually in to me?”. His voice sounding like he couldn’t quite believe what he just heard. “Hyung, I’ve been in to you for months. I never did anything about it because I’m not good at approaching people and plus you’re…you. And I’ve never really liked anyone as much as you”. “You’re in to me?” Yoongi asked again, voice and face both sounding and looking like he didn’t believe that at all, but also filled with so much hope. “Well, yeah. Ever since I first saw you. I swear to god I almost fainted when you showed up at dance practice that day and then you were really nice to talk to and”. Suddenly a pair of lips where on his. It was a soft tentative kiss and Jungkook found himself so shocked that he didn’t return it for a second or two. Yoongi pulled back slightly “Sorry, I” he started but then Jungkook pressed his lips to Yoongi swallowing the rest of what he was going to say. They both kissed with purpose now and it didn’t take long for their tongues to get involved too. Suddenly overwhelmed with the fact that he was making out with the boy of his dreams he growled slightly and picked Yoongi up, turning them around and placing him on the counter. Yoongi broke this kiss then “Fuck, that was hot.” He laughed “Been thinking about you doing that to me for a long time”. “Yeah? I can do a lot more than just that hyung”. Yoongi’s pupils dilated a bit at that. “Bet you can” he then replied reconnecting their lips.
“Kookie, whe - Oh!” they suddenly heard a female voice ring thought he kitchen. Yoongi broke this kiss and peeked over Jungkook’s shoulders “Sorry Amy. Kookie is busy right now please leave him alone, I don’t think he’s interested” he said, voice teasing. “Whatever” Jungkook heard her mutter but it was clear by the sound of her voice that her ego took a hit which, in her case, wasn’t a bad thing. “See, problem solved” Yoongi said quietly in his ear. He started laughing with his face in Yoongi neck and he could feel Yoongi laughing as well. “Wow you’re so mean!” Jungkook continued to laugh. “Hmmm, it was very satisfying to see her face when I said that. You should have seen it.”. They looked at each other then, still both smiling. “Can’t believe you like me Kook. I’ve been in to you for over a year now. I almost died at you’re dance practice to which Hoseok invited me on purpose by the way” Yoongi said. “Hobi hyung knew?” he asked, some things about questions his friend had asked him in the past clicking in to place now. “Yeah, sort of had to confess at some point because he caught me staring at you. Didn’t think I had a chance. You being so popular and all” Yoongi looked away shyly. Jungkook, feeling much more confident now, tilted Yoongi’s head so he was looking at him again “I’m not popular by choice you know? I hate it most of the time, makes me anxious. I’ve never really been interested in anyone enough to pursue an actual relationship with, up until now.” “You want a relationship with me?” Yoongi asked. “Well, ok wow, I didn’t mean to come on so strong. I mean maybe we start with dating and see where things go like normal people you know? And then” Yoongi silenced him with a kiss. “God you’re cute when you get flustered” he then said smiling fondly at Jungkook. “Let’s get to know each other a little more then. Wanna go grab a late dinner with me?” Yoongi continued. “Sounds good hyung” Jungkook said and together they went out to get to know each other better.
3 months later
Yoongi was waiting outside the lecture hall Jungkook was currently in. It was Friday and they planned on going to Yoongi’s apartment and hang out. It had been 3 months and they had gotten pretty serious about each other pretty quick. Yoongi had to admit that at first he still was very wary about the whole thing. In the beginning he was very worried that Jungkook would suddenly decide he had enough of him, that he wasn’t what Jungkook thought he was. He never thought that he would be so insecure about himself even though Jungkook confirmed to him time and time again that is wasn’t necessary. After a while he began to see it himself too in the way Jungkook would look at him like he was the whole world, in the way he would go out of his way to make Yoongi happy, in the way he would hold his hand when walking and sitting together, in the way Jungkook would make him see actual stars when he fucked him, always making sure Yoongi was taken care of after. Yoongi loved being fucked by him, Jungkook’s body really was something else. Now, 3 months later he was sure Jungkook loved him as much as he loved him.
They had gotten some looks in the beginning. He felt people’s eyes on him when they kissed in public or held hands. He never really cared for the opinions of others but the attention he suddenly got for dating the most popular guy on campus was something he really needed to get used to. Thankfully, most people where nice to him saying that they looked good together. Of course not everyone shared that opinion and some people even let him know that not so subtlety. Whispering behind his back, just loud enough for him to hear, that Jungkook would probably get bored with him soon. Or asking him, straight to his face, what Jungkook saw in him. It was obviously jealousy and Yoongi managed to brush off most comments, he was getting better at it the more faith he got in their relationship. Jungkook would feel awful when he would tell him about it sometimes. He would suddenly pull Yoongi to his chest a day or two later and start making out with him out of nowhere. When Yoongi would ask why he would say “That was that girl that asked you what I see in you hyung, I felt like I needed to make a point and make out with you in front of her face”. It was ridiculous and childish but it warmed Yoongi’s heart when they laughed about it together. Yoongi’s heart growing fond that his boyfriend would do that despite not liking being the centre of attention.
People didn’t bother him as much now. The dust on their relationship having settled and most people having accepted it as a fact.
Then the doors of the lecture hall flew open en students started to flood out. He spotted Jungkook quickly followed by two girls clearly trying and failing to get his attention. Jungkook’s eyes where only on him and it filled his stomach with butterflies. “Hey baby” he murmured when he leaned down to press a kiss to Yoongi’s lips. “Hey yourself” he said smiling in the kiss. The girls, having seen their exchange, had opted to leave with disappointed looks on their faces. “Wanna get out of here?” his boyfriend then asked. “Yeah, lets” he grabbed Jungkook’s hand and intertwined their fingers. They looked at each other and smiled, both clearly and utterly in love with each other.
The end.
