Through years of experience, Ochako had learned that the best mornings are sunny, quiet ones spent in bed with her beloved. She loved waking up to the sun’s beams shining on the wooden closet door in the corner of the bedroom she shared with her wife, wrapped up in Mina’s strong arms. On those perfect mornings, Ochako lay in bed, not wanting to move, just wanting to stay and revel in the warmth and comfort she got from cuddling with Mina. She felt safe and cozy and loved.
Sometimes, mornings like those would enter Ochako’s dreams. They were always some of her favorites, but they never really compared to the real thing.
Ochako wanted to make sure she memorized every little detail of this morning. It was perfect, sun shining, filling the bedroom with faint golden light. Ochako lazily opened her eyes, blinking at the clock on the bedside table. 9:37. Not that bad, honestly. On these sleepy weekends, Ochako and Mina had a bit of a habit of sleeping in til 10, occasionally even 11.
Ochako lifted her head from Mina’s chest, taking a moment to register their arrangement. Mina had unconsciously held her close, arm wrapped around Ochako’s back. While one of Ochako’s arms was under Mina, her other hand had found its way into Mina’s, fingers intertwining at some point during the night. Ochako had to admit, that was a new one. It wasn’t bad.
Ochako looked up, seeing Mina still asleep, along with their cat that they took care of together. The cat, Cinnamon, had somehow found her way into the room, and had decided to claim a spot on the pillow right next to Mina’s head. Cinnamon’s fluffy brown belly slowly went up and down. She shifted her little head.
Ochako rested her head on Mina’s chest again, looking at their intertwined hands. She lifted her thumb and slowly stroked Mina’s. She heard a small sigh of contentment, then a little giggle.
“Morning, Mimi,” Ochako hummed.
“Good morning, Honeybee,” Mina replied. “Cinnamon got in again, huh.”
“Yep. We could start locking the door at night, but I think it’s nicer when she’s here.”
“Agreed. She’s pretty cute,” Mina said.
“Not as cute as you,” Ochako smiled. Mina laughed and shifted her hand from Ochako’s back to her head. Mina’s hand gently carded through Ochako’s hair, comfortable silence falling over the lovebirds. Ochako was practically purring.
“I love you, Ochako,” Mina crooned.
“I love you too,” Ochako mumbled back.
“You know, it’s probably a worthy endeavor to go get some breakfast,” Mina said.
“But… world cold and hard, staying in bed with Mina soft and warm,” Ochako murmured into Mina’s chest.
“Okay, five more minutes, you funky lil sapphic. And don’t think I don’t recognize that!” Mina laughed. Ochako grinned and closed her eyes, simply enjoying the moment.
Five minutes passed far quicker than Ochako hoped it would, but she supposed Mina was right about breakfast. Reluctantly, Ochako stood up, shortly followed by Mina.
“Remember how you were only three centimeters taller than me when we met?” Ochako asked. Mina nodded, then blew a small raspberry at Ochako. “Hey! Just because you got really tall!”
“Well, you got like all of the muscle mass, so I think we’re even!” Mina retorted. Ochako playfully glared at her before standing on her tip-toes to give Mina a kiss. Their lips brushed against each other’s before they headed off to the bathroom, brushing teeth and hair next to each other, elbows bumping into the other’s.
Ochako made her way downstairs and into the kitchen first (Mina’s hair tended to take a while to take care of in the mornings, while Ochako’s hair routine was simply to brush it). Ochako grabbed some fruits and a cutting board and began to chop up the strawberries and apples and things. Mina walked around the corner. She opened the fridge and retreated from it holding some eggs and the milk carton.
Mina was surprisingly good at cooking. Ochako knew that she had learned a lot from Katsuki, which was probably the entire reason why, but still. Even Mina’s scrambled eggs, the most basic of basic, easy foods to prepare, were better than most.
Ochako finished cutting the fruit and portioned it off into two bowls, then she poured some cat food into Cinnamon’s bowl. Having finished all of her breakfast duties, Ochako decided to watch Mina cook. Of course, watching Mina cook meant hugging her from behind and standing on her tip-toes, chin hooked around Mina’s shoulder. The eggs were finished quickly. (read: disappointingly fast (Ochako really likes hugging Mina))
With all of the food ready, Ochako and Mina sat down, not at their dinner table but on the couch in their family room instead. Ochako sat down with her legs in the criss-cross applesauce formation, and Mina sat with her back rested against the armrest and her legs propped up on Ochako’s lap.
“So, do we have any plans today?” Mina questioned.
“Not really. I mean, we do normally play minecraft on days that we have off, but other than that, I guess we should just get some light exercise.”
“I’m only playing minecraft with you if you let me put my bed next to yours again,” Mina pouted.
“I’ll let you put your bed next to mine when you apologize to Sir Woolington the 3rd!” Ochako giggled.
“It isn’t my fault that I don’t always check the sheep’s name before I shear them!” Mina retorted. Ochako laughed while Mina continued to pout, but her resolve broke down quickly and soon the two were both cracking up.
“So. Light exercise,” Mina said once the food was gone. “What did you have in mind?”
“We could get away with just going on a walk. We could walk down to that cat café too!” Ochako replied.
“Oh, smart! Then, we get to spend time together, we get to see cats, and we can meet some fans!” Mina exclaimed.
“Heck yeah!”
”Also, I know I said this earlier, but I really, really love you,” Mina said. Ochako smiled and leaned over towards her, cupping Mina’s face in her hands.
”I love you so, so much too.”
Ochako peppered soft kisses all over Mina’s face and hands until their lips met. Sweet kisses were shared, and Ochako had a brand new memory to cherish for the rest of her life.
