Work Text:
"You forgot your rings again, idiot," Katsuki stood in front of you as you were sitting down on the couch with quite a bit of tiredness radiating from your person. Two other classmates were there, Mina and Jiro, watching any TV show that was on. You simply joined because you was too tired of staring at your bedroom wall waiting for another damned ghost to pop out, or even that godforsaken angel — hah, you wish he was godforsaken.
You peered up at the current human door, blinking slowly. "My rings?" You questioned obliviously before feeling your hands for what was, indeed, not there. He opened his palm to show off exactly what was missing.
"I know you lost your memories, but I didn't think that included your braincells, too." He huffed and held his free hand out to you. Assuming what he wanted, you placed a hand on his and Katsuki grabbed it to slip on each ring. He did the same to the other hand, at some point kneeling down to take a better look at it. It was also at this point all of the rings were on, but his hands didn't let go of yours. Instead, he stared at them like it was notes to study for a big test.
"Something wrong, Firecracker?" You asked with a bit of snark, but it was mostly calm. He shook his head slightly, rubbing his thumb over a tiny scar on your hand.
"So you really didn't remember anything involving yourself?" He asked bluntly, but there was still a soft tone hidden in his words. You hesitated for a second, but shook your head.
"I don't, no. I know you guys, but I didn't know how well we know each other," you mumbled, looking down at your hands still in his. He hasn't looked at you directly yet. "Sorr-"
"Shut up." Your jaw immediately shut, letting him continue. "You don't need to apologize for what you can't control." His thumbs traced over a couple of other tiny raised scars, and you quirked a brow.
"Having fun there?" You diverted the topic from the stressful conversation, smiling a bit through the confusion. However, this comment just caused him to push your hands away and avert his gaze elsewhere.
"Whatever. Don't leave them next time, Ouija Board. You won't be able to punch that one ghost you were yelling at if it comes back." You flushed a bit in embarrassment, recalling back to your first day here. 'great. I'll never live that down, will I?' you sighed internally.
"What happens if I do?" You blurted out before you could rethink your wording. It sounded like a test more than a genuine question. His carmine eyes locked onto yours rather intensely, and you instinctively recoiled a bit into yourself.
"Don't. Otherwise I'll have to glue them to your fingers." It wasn't quite obvious he was joking with how serious he usually sounds, but you managed to catch it and smirked.
"As though you'd bother going into that much trouble," you retorted, to which he clicked his tongue in annoyance and stood.
"You'd be surprised, idiot." He walked off, leaving you to hear the muffled giggling of the two girls you forgot were there. Immediately proceeding this realization, your cheeks involuntarily flushed pink in embarrassment.
"Looks like the loverboy is making bold claims!" Mina teased, and you tried your best not to feel tiny in your huge clothes. "Be careful, Nagata, he's not one to mess around with like that," Mina winked, and Jiro turned her attention back to the TV to respect your privacy.
You stood up, absconding to the kitchen to grab a snack and return to your room before you make a bigger fool of yourself.
-------------------------------------------
"Great," you swore quietly to yourself as you recounted the rings on your hand. You were missing one, and for the life of you, you can't recall where you might've misplaced it. You've managed to go a solid week without a mishap until now.
You almost didn't hear your name called out while heading to the locker room before a calloused hand landed on your shoulder, the faint smell of smoke wafting your direction.
"Hey. What did I say I'd do if you forgot your stupid rings one more time?" The familiar voice matched the rest of the clues, and you turned to look at the resting bitch face of a thirst trap. He held up the missing ring in front of your face, and a wave of relief washed over you.
"Where'd you find it? I've been looking everywhere," you reached for the ring but he pulled it away, frowning.
"You're lucky I don't have glue with me right now," he growled, grabbing your hand with the missing ring and slipping it back on. You made no attempt to pull away, instead staring holes into his face.
"Sure. Where did you find it, though?" He scoffed, adjusting another ring that was put on the wrong finger.
"It was on the ground on the way from the dorms to class. You didn't put it on the right finger." Katsuki let go of your hand, taking up the other one to search for more misplacement mistakes. Thank god he found none, otherwise he probably would've went right off to find some glue. "You would've lost another one today, you know." He pointed at the second ring he had to change.
"I guess I'm lucky you're here, then?" You joked lightly. Katsuki only flicked your forehead, earning a small 'ow' from you.
"You are lucky, Beetlejuice. Now come on, we're gonna be late."
