Work Text:
It had been a normal day for Midoriya Izuku. Get up, get dressed, shower his mother in love and then head to school to his… judgemental peers. He had a feeling about today though, he just didn’t know if it was good or bad.
While on his way to his locker, Izuku was kicked, tripped, and shoved. His peers whispered insults behind his back just loud enough for him to hear, and he knew they knew he could he hear them.
Taking a deep breath in and out, Izuku calmed his racing heart as his anxiety spiked. Luckily that was all he faced as he made the way to his locker.
Grabbing his books and quickly making his way to class, making himself look as small as possible. At one point he was shoved to the ground by a kid from another class, causing everyone around him to laugh. The ones who didn’t laugh only gave him pitying looks and made no move to help him, not that he expected them too. No one wanted to help useless, quirkless Deku after all.
Skip time to lunch, and Izuku was beginning to feel like his feeling from earlier was a bad one. On the bright side, Bakugou had yet to make a move on him and that was always good. The days where Bakugou left him alone were usually the best.
Making his way to the roof, Izuku kept to himself and stayed as far away from everyone else as possible, not wanting to be tripped and have the lunch his mother made for him ruined.
Near the end of Lunch, one of bakugou’s followers, Tsubasa, had come and taken what little was left of his lunch and launched it over the side into the dumpster below. Tears pooled in Izuku’s eyes as he watched the bento box fall into the trash. That was the third one this month that would have to be replaced, and it was only the 12th.
Disheartened, Izuku slowly made his way back to his classroom, ignoring the whispers and jaded looks as he walked past.
Class went well, mostly anyway, until last period, where there teacher just had to make his day ten times worse than it already was.
“Oh right, Midoriya, you wanted to go to U.A too, right?” The teacher asked, a sly glint in his eyes as he faked a smile at the green haired boy, who shrunk into himself as the burning eyes of his classmates turned to him. They glared and laughed at him.
“Midoriya!? You can’t get into U.A with book smarts alone!””And what are you gonna do Midoriya!? Cry them to death!? HAHA!” The laughter and insults made the boy flinch and reel back a bit, before the exploding hand of Bakugou Katsuki had found its way to his desk.
Bakugou was not happy.
The red eyes of his former childhood friend chilled Izuku to the bone as the blonde glared at him, a snarl on his face. “YOU’RE BELOW ALL THESE OTHER EXTRA’S, DEKU! YOU’RE QUIRKLESS! YOU THINK YOUR BETTER THEN ME!?”
The blonde set off another explosion, causing Izuku to fall backwards of his chair and try to crawl away to safety. Bakugou stalked toward him angrily, towering over Izuku. Izuku’s back hit the wall with a thud and a squeak as Izuku tried to quell the situation.
“W-well, i w-wont know until i t-try, right? I-i’ve wanted to b-be a hero ever s-since i was l-little and… i t-thought maybe…” Izuku got out lamely, Trembling as the blonde only seemed to get angrier at his explanation.
“TRY!? YOU’LL GET YOURSELF KILLED BEFORE THE FIRST ENEMY EVEN SHOWS THEMSELF, DEKU!” Bakugou set an explosion off scarily close to Izuku’s ears, causing them to start ringing and izuku to become feint and dizzy. He swayed a bit before the teacher reigned the explosive blonde in, continuing to teach class once Izuku was seated.
At the end of class, as Izuku was packing up as quickly as possible, Bakugou slammed his hand down once again on Izuku’s desk, scorching the wood from the force of his quirk. Izuku froze, his hope of leaving without a confrontation ruined.
“And where do you think you’re going, hah, DEKU!” Bakugou snatched Izuku’s journal from his, causing izuku to freeze and stare at in fear. The journal’s were one of the few things he still enjoyed, and he doesn’t know where he would be without them. They’re such a large part of his life.
“Hero analysis for the future? You playing some game here DEKU!? YOU HAVE NO FUTURE!” Bakugou screamed at him, clenching the journal tightly as he let sparks fly in his palms, causing izuku to begin to beg him.
“P-Please Kacchan! j-just give it b-back!” Izuku begged, tears beginning to pool in his eyes as his anxiety skyrocketed. Izuku was nearing the point of a full on mental breakdown.
Seeing the tears in the green haired boys eyes made Bakugou pause and his heart clench painfully with an unknown feeling. Squishing that feeling down, Bakugou exploded the journal and tossed it out the window, beginning to walk away as Izuku cried out in shock and ran to the window in a pitiful attempt to catch his journal before it landed in the koi pond below.
“You know, if you want a quirk so badly, why don’t you take a swine dive off the roof of the building and pray for a quirk in your next like, HAH!?” Bakugou smirked cruelly as he watched the tears Izuku was trying so very hard to keep in fall down his freckled face.
Izuku sat there and cried for hours after the blonde had left, clutching at his chest as his heart clenched painfully with a feeling that Izuku knew was from being rejected by his soulmate.
Izuku had known ever since Bakugou had gotten his quirk that the blonde was his soulmate, but as time went on and Izuku was diagnosed as quirkless, and the boy turned into something from a nightmare, Izuku’s want to tell the blonde dimmed. It’s not like the blonde would ever want him anyway, he had already made that abundantly clear.
Izuku stared blankly down at the koi fish swimming and nibbling on his journal, an almost dead look in his eyes. The sun was already setting, which meant that Izuku had been there a lot longer then he should have been. Picking up the soggy journal, Izuku watched as some of the pages couldn’t keep themselves together and fell apart in his hands.
All his hard work, his hopes and dreams, drenched and water and exploded by the person who was supposed to love him unconditionally.
Absently walking home, Izuku travelled under a tunnel. With his glossy eyes and tear stained face, Izuku looked like a wreck. He could practically feel his own heartbeat.
Ba-dump… Ba-dump… Ba-dump… Ba-dump…
Suddenly from behind him, the manhole cover was blown off, and before Izuku could react, he was covered head to toe in sludge villain.
Izuku clawed at the sludge, tears streaming down his face as he slowly suffocated. “What a convenient meatsuit, right for taking. Thanks kid, you’re my hero~” The villain cooed in his ear before he fell unconscious.
Izuku wakes up to a large hand slapping him repeatedly in the face. Izuku groaned and weakly slapped the hand away as his eyes fluttered open. “ AH GOOD! THOUGHT WE’D LOST YOU THERE MY BOY! ”
All Might stood in front of Izuku in all his sunshine glory, and while Izuku would normally be excited, he just couldn’t muster up the ability to be happy at the moment. He was almost… upset that he’d been saved. So instead of saying hello and thanking the man, Izuku asks him a question instead.
“Can a quirkless person be a hero.” Izuku asks, an almost haunted look in his eyes as he stares determinedly into All might’s blue orbs. All Might sweats nervously, because he desperately wanted to say yes, because this boy looked like he needed to hear the word yes come from his mouth, But then his injury came to mind and suddenly it wasn’t a quirkless child standing in front of him, no it was a full on pro hero, a quirkless pro hero, who died on his debut day because he couldn’t fight the villain without a quirk of his own, even one to just even the playing field.
“ I CANNOT SIMPLY SAY THAT QUIRKLESS PERSON CAN BE A HERO” All might said, a frown on his face as he watched what little life was in those green eyes vanish , and suddenly, All Might felt as if he had just made the worst mistake of his life.
“Oh…” The green haired boy whispered it so softly the All Might almost didn’t hear him. All Might took in a shaky breath. “ BEING A PRO IS DANGEROUS, SO SO DANGEROUS. THERE ARE SOME VILLAINS OUT THERE WHO WILL NOT HESITATE TO KILL YOU, AND IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE POWER TO COMBAT THEIRS? THEN YOU WON’T STAND A CHANCE. IT’S UNFAIR AND CRUEL, BUT IT’S THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. ” All Might explained as best as he could, but he felt as if it didn’t help any.
Izuku stared blankly up at the hero he had admired for his whole life. The same hero that had just crushed any dreams he had left. Izuku felt… empty inside. Void of emotion. “ THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER PROFESSIONS THAT INVOLVE SAVING PEOPLE! DOCTORS, POLICE OFFICERS, EVEN LAWYERS! THERE ALL FINE FIELDS! ” All Might tried to cheer the boy up, but Izuku wasn’t having it. Instead of answering, Izuku simply turned around and walked away, leaving behind the shocked number one hero. If he had stayed for just a little but longer, or had even just turned around, he would have seen the hero turn into a skinny blonde man that looked half dead that watched him go with sadness in his eyes and a frown on his face.
Izuku walked like a zombie home, ignoring everything around him in his daze. Though instead of going to his apartment, Izuku made his way to the roof of the building. It was a 10 story high building, so he knew if he jumped he wouldn’t survive.
Izuku paused as he looked out over the darkening city of musutafu. Did he really want to do this? Take his own life? What about his mother? She wouldn’t have to spend so much money on him and struggle working two different jobs. He had no friends, and His hero had just told him his dream was impossible.
Mind made up, Izuku pulled a pencil out of his backpack and began to write a note to his mother.
I’m sorry mom, but i cant do this anymore. The bullying, the pain, everything!
I have no friends. The one person who is supposed to love
Me unconditionally hates my guts and told me to kill myself,
So you know what? I’ll do it. If that’s what it will take for him to FINALLY
Be happy, then so be it. Not like it matters anymore, who needs a
Quirkless boy in our day and age anymore anyway?
At best id become a retail worker, at worst? I’d be on the streets.
This world has no want for a quirkless Hero
Signed, Izuku Hisashi Midoriya
Taking his red shoes off, Izuku slipped the note inside. Taking off his blazer, Izuku put that over his shoes so the note wouldn’t fly away. He didn’t know how long it would take for people to find his body after all.
Walking up to the railings on the roof, Izuku jumped over them, steadying himself on the ledge as he looked down at the alley that he would land in. Taking in a shaky breath, Izuku let go of the railing.
Falling was nice, Izuku decided. The wind in his hair as he watched himself plummet to the ground. Serene. Izuku saw a hero with panicked red eyes try to catch him, capture weapon moving fast, but it was already too late. Izuku hit the ground with a splat. He died on impact.
Bakugou was at home, when suddenly all the colour drained from his vision and pain went through his body. He screamed, alarming his parents as they didn’t know what to do. Bakugou clutched at his chest as the pain went as fast as it came.
He took in sharp inhales of breath, Looking around the room with a panicked expression on his face. His mother cupped his head, a worried look on her face as his dad sat beside her.
“Katsuki what’s wrong?!” She demanded, and Bakugou looked at her with his now black white and grey vision.
“I can’t see colour anymore” Bakugou whispered, painfully aware of what that meant.
His soulmate was dead.
The next morning, It was all over the news. Bakugou stared at his T.V in growing horror as he looked at the mangled body if Midoriya Izuku
“Midoriya Izuku, age 14, committed suicide last night by jumping off the roof of his apartment building. Report shows that he died on impact. Pro Hero erasurehead was on the scene not long after and had been the one to discover the body-” Bakugou just couldn’t listen to it anymore. Tears welled in Bakugou’s eyes for the first time in years as he realised what this meant.
He drove his own soulmate to suicide
Bakugou screamed as he let the tears fall down his face.
All Might stared in growing horror at the T.V, The boy he had saved just the day before was now dead. Midoriya Izuku… so that was his name? He had never gotten it. As All Might read the suicide note that it showed, he felt his geart clench painfully. ‘ I did this… ’ All Might thought, as he re-read the same line over and over again.
“‘ This world has no want for a quirkless hero’, But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t need one”
The funeral was held two days later, and while Inko wasn’t sure who the black haired man with the scruffy look was, or who the skinny malnourished blonde man was, she let them stay, because at least they seemed to have cared that her son had died.
After all the rest of the world didn’t
