Chapter Text
Giyuu had gotten detention again. It wasn't his fault this time, the actual troublemaker— Sanemi, got into a fight with a first year. Giyuu, being the absolute angel that he is, tried to separate the two. Instead he was blamed for starting the fight! He hoped the first year was alright, even if he seemed to be winning the fight by a minor landslide, and he also hoped karma would get to Sanemi. Especially considering all the other times Giyuu’s gotten into trouble for trying to separate his fights.
Although, this boy seemed to join him— Only Fridays, Thursdays and Tuesdays though. Neither spoke, considering how it was detention. Giyuu enjoyed the company, he wasn't complaining about it.
The teacher, usually Kuwajima, only seemed to notice him with ten minutes to spare, yelling at the boy to leave and how he's “too polite and nice to be here.”
Giyuu always huffed at this, any other students seemed to roll their eyes or click their tongues. He had more or less gotten to know the other students who showed up every other day, most of them being apart of the so called gang “Demon Moons” or whatever it was.
The name sounded terrible.
The supposed leader was Muzan Kibutsuji, the deputy head. Giyuu wasn't too sure he believed it, but then again the man was always a little shady.
But having a gang? Of students? Even shadier, probably why most students steered clear of the man, and his god awful attire.
Today was a Wednesday, meaning the fire themed boy wouldn't be there, Giyuu felt his stomach churn a little. Not that he was disappointed or anything.
Maybe a little.
He only had one period left, he was thinking back to the boy, and about how he never got detention despite his hair?? It was, to say the least, crazy.
Though there was a teacher with similar, if not the exact same, hair. Maybe they were related, it couldn't of been a coincidence for them to look alike.
Or he was thinking too much into it, not like he remembered most people's faces, Shinobu had always said how unliked he was, he didn't want to believe it.
-
Detention time! Kuwajima hadn't arrived yet, so most students talked amongst themselves, a few hardly contributing to the conversations.
There weren't that many students though, the same few that he always saw, they never spoke to him— Only glancing and mumbling about the silent senior who had no friends.
He was certain he did, there was always Sabito, but he was homeschooled, were they only including school friends?
Maybe Shinobu, despite her actions, was his friend? The fire boy too..
He was jumping to conclusions again, how annoying.
Kuwajima finally arrived, the students halted their conversations and glared at the stout teacher.
He went on about how he “didn't want to be there either” and how “maybe you shouldn't of gotten a detention in the first place.”
Poor Giyuu, he didn't do anything wrong but still remained with the rest of them.
It felt like an eternity, his mind jumbled with thoughts of the red boy, and if anybody actually liked him.
He felt faint from the mess, should he call Sabito about it?
Maybe not, he wouldn't want to burden the boy anymore than he already does.
At least the detention was over, meaning he could get home, wait for his sister to come home and spend quality family time together! If she wasn't too tired, that is.
After leaving the detention room, he was tapping away at his phone, trying his hardest to avoid the stares from the actual delinquents. He hadn't noticed the literal sun standing before him.
And apparently, neither did the other boy.
Giyuu bumped into him, quickly and quietly apologised before trying to find his way around the other.
A laugh resonated from the other.
He looked up, blinked once, twice, before stumbling back slightly— The fire themed boy was waiting for him? That couldn't be right. Maybe he was friends with one of the other kids, or he was waiting for the awfully identical teacher.
“It's good to see you again! Especially out of detention, I'm sorry I was never able to stay and talk afterwards! Kuwajima seems to tell my father whenever I'm there, he tends to heave up a storm when he finds me!”
Giyuu was, to say the least, stunned into silence— Something that wasn't unfamiliar with the boy, but something to make him feel like he was being delusional.
They stood in silence for what felt like an eternity— The other boys posture never faltering, only then he realised he wasn't, in fact, having a fever dream.
Giyuu mumbled out a string of words, a red tint at his cheeks, the other turned his head, like a puppy .
“Sorry! What was that?” He barked out, it was pretty cute. He'd make a good puppy.
“I'm sorry for.. taking up your time..” He spoke out again, staring down at his checkered shoes like they were the second coming of christ.
A hearty laugh filled the silence, followed by
“It's no worries! I wouldn't have bothered hadn't I seen you an interesting companion!” Oh Lord was this boy making Giyuu feel like he was the emperor of the world— Or he was blowing things way out of proportion.
“Ah.” What an idiot he was, Tomioka Giyuu— the world’s dumbest and awkwardest boy, there wasn't a chance in hell the puppy that harnessed the sun would respond to anything like that.
“Assuming you don't know me, I'm Rengoku Kyoujurou! It's a pleasure to meet you!” He bowed his head in respect, Giyuu felt himself stiffen again.
At least he could put a name to a face, but at what cost?
“It's a pleasure to meet you, Rengoku, I'm Tomioka Giyuu.”
He belted out another laugh, Giyuu’s face got warmer.
“I knew already, of course! I asked the other seniors about you, Shinobu seemed pleased to tell me about you!”
He wanted the ground to swallow him whole, of course Shinobu would be happy to tell this lovely sunshine man everything about him.
Did she tell him about the time he tried to flush Obanai’s snake down a toilet? It was definitely a reputation crusher— Not that he really had much of one.
Realising he had yet to reply, he went to speak, probably something dumb again, but Rengoku beat him to it.
“How would you like to eat udon with me? We could get to know each other! You seem quite endearing after all!”
A quick pause, “It would also make up for me asking your friends about you too!”
There was no way in hell that any of this was real, Shinobu always talked about how he'd never befriend anybody here— he was also sure she made a bet on it.
But maybe he was seeing this entirely the wrong way, or Rengoku would find out what he's like and want nothing to do with him!
“That would be nice..” Curse his stupid mouth, but also be thankful for the bigger smile it put on Rengoku’s face.
Giyuu felt his arm being tugged at by warm hands, he let his mind wonder too much and easily lost track of what was happening. Then it all came rushing back, he felt himself grow dizzy like he'd just been struck with a bullet of nausea.
Rengoku, being the astounding child of the sun that he was, seemed to notice and paused— allowing Giyuu a chance to stabilise himself, he glanced up to meet Rengoku’s eyes, only to be greeted with worry etched onto his face and a faint smile still held present.
Giyuu felt ashamed in killing the mood this early on, he must of noticed however as he brushed it off and gently tugged his arm again, beckoning him to follow with a warm smile.
He felt the faintest tug of a smile on his own lips, but paid no mind to it and followed the sunshine puppy.
