Todoroki and Sora Celebrate Endeavor Hating Hours (It's Always Endeavor Hating Hours)

Summary:

The idea comes to them as Shouto is doing Hero Course homework on hero regulation laws...

Notes:

I mentioned it in the tags, but I'll say again; this is part of my AU Green Lightning and is probably gonna end up being hard to understand if it is read standalone

I finally got to doing one of these!
*checks watch* maybe... six months later
Not the point!
I was determined and wrote this all today. Not exactly long compared to what would usually be one of my chapters, but it Does It's Job
This may or may not have to do with what's happening in the manga, but who's to say? who's to say, really.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It’s a free weekend for the students of UA; and by that, it is meant that the students are able to go home and spend time with their families for a bit.

Shouto does not want to spend time with his family.

All right, perhaps that’s a bit unfair; he’d love to spend time with a lot of his family. Just specifically not his father. Ever. And, with Fuyumi already away from the house currently, on a trip of her own, Shouto has zero desire to spend any time in the same house as that old bastard.

So, when offered to hang out with Sora instead, well, the decision is pretty obvious.

It’s the end of a long week of school, so they’re not really out and about, though; they’re just lounging around Sora’s computer room, Shouto working a bit on homework for class (something about hero regulations) and Sora working on the computer, while the news plays in the background.

The day is mostly spent in silent company, with the occasional comment, like Sora wondering out loud about how strange it is that he still has a good half of the security camera access that he originally got from working for Nedzu, or Shouto muttering about how there’s more rules about property damage than he would have imagined.

When things really start to happen, though, is right around noon, thanks to the news playing in the background.

"This just in, a new case solved by the number one hero, Endea-!”

Sora groans loudly, interrupting the news. “Inescapable.”

Shouto sighs. “He is the number one hero after all. He’s gonna be on the news a lot.” For a moment, they both just stare at the screen. And then, Shouto mutters, “Quite convenient for him how the news only reports on the solving of the situation and not any damage he caused to do it.”

“Does he usually cause a lot of property damage?” Sora asks.

“Not intentionally,” Shouto shrugs, “But given how much he doesn’t really care about others and only cares about winning the fight, plus how strong his quirk is, it happens just about as often as you would think.”

Sora turns in his chair to face Shouto. “You know, suddenly I’m very interested in your homework about hero regulations and the exact specifics of it.”

Shouto rolls his eyes, but is nonetheless amused. “Sorry, but I think getting him in trouble for that might be harder than you’d think; people have tried to press charges in the past, but… the old man has a good way of getting them to drop the subject. Usually with money. ‘For reparations’, he’d say, but really it’s more like a bribe.”

For a moment, Sora leans back in his chair, thinking. “Okay. But what if, hear me out, what if, we post it on the internet and get it to go viral and then he can’t shove it under the rug.”

Shouto considers it. “I mean, where would we get direct evidence though?”

“Damn, you’re right.”

The subject almost drops, and then Sora goes, “WAIT.”

“What?”

He gestures to the other computers in the room, “Remember earlier when I was thinking about how weird it is that I still have access to a fair amount of security cameras and footage?”

“That… just might work.”

Sora smiles in a way that’s innocent but bordering on mischievous. “So! Let’s take an extra close look over some of those hero regulations, shall we?”

They spend the rest of the day working on gathering clips; it’s easier to narrow down footage when they pull up a list that details all of the cases solved by Pro Hero Endeavor, which includes the date, time, and place of when they happened.

There are one or two times where they can’t get access to the right security cameras, but it hardly matters; they gather so much evidence outside of that anyway.

About halfway through, Hatsume calls Sora to ask for help on a different project, and when he explains why he’s not available, she has the brilliantly devious idea of not only putting the official hero regulations next to the footage, but also examples of other heroes who were punished for the exact same laws to show why it’s unfair that Endeavor got away with it.

The next day (Sunday), they realize that perhaps they’ve gathered a larger amount of evidence than they can handle, and they invite over Midoriya (who is on board before Sora is even halfway through the explanation) to help pull together all of the clips into a video. Akari comes too (“I was bored,” they shrug in explanation) and suggests putting silly music over it to make it go viral faster, “Because if there’s anything the people love, it’s sticking it to rich people and meme-ing all over them to make them look silly.”

…

“I think…” Midoriya says slowly, clicking on the video, “We’re done.”

They watch through the video.

“You know,” Sora says, “I think I’ve seen this so many times already that I’m immune to it.”

There’s a chorus of grunts of agreement.

“We need a fresh set of eyes, someone who hasn’t seen this,” Shouto suggests.

Midoriya stares at the screen. “Send it to the group chat?”

“Send it to the group chat.”

POST IT

The video takes off very quickly, becoming widespread almost overnight. In the following days it gets taken down a few times, but other, shall we say, “charitable internet souls”, upload clips from the video and keep them spreading around on their own.

A few weeks later Endeavor is taken to court over the offenses, but it’s really not much of a trial at all. All of the evidence was already clearly compiled, and the defensive side couldn’t really say it’s nothing when heroes who were punished by the same rules being broken in the same severity were placed side by side with Endeavor breaking those laws.

Endeavor is sent to jail (and while most of the laws would be a few years sentence at most, the compilation of all of them makes it last for a long, long time), and the hero ranking system is completely turned on its head.

And it's the Todoroki family that inherits the money from the ex-pro-hero; and they have no intention on using it to bail him out.

S houto is able to properly reconnect with his family (his mother, his sister Fuyumi, and his brother Natsuo) now that they have all of the old man’s money and house to themselves. Together, while the road isn’t perfect, they can work to heal all of the damage that was caused.

Eventually, Endeavor fades from the public’s mind and becomes nothing.

Justice.

Notes:

They All Sure Did It, Huh?

If you leave a comment I'll be twice as likely to continue on this train and give *cough* Other Characters (Nedzu) the Justice(TM) they deserve

Also while you're here, I went through and edited all of Green Lightning, if you're interested
