Sick Day

Summary:

In which Aizawa is worried -professionally, of course. No parental stuff implied.- about one particular member of his class, and on his musings, he finds a solution where maybe he can make this ship sail.

Notes:

Hello there to all the dear readers that decided to take time reading this work and this note.

I’ve decided to post this story: the very first one that I wrote on this fandom.

About the specifications; I’ve nothing against Fuyumi as she is, but I thought the idea of Fem!Shouto not having any clue -from a fem pov- about her crush would be kind of adorable and amusing. Also, I wrote the story way before the Bakugous’ interactions were shown in the anime, or the dorms for what is worth. So, for the plot sake, I decided to leave it that way.

As I mentioned, it is my very first work, so, any mistake, comment or suggestion is gratefully accepted.

I hope you enjoy it.

Work Text:

Aizawa hummed, thinking for himself. The day was too quiet and peaceful, literally, nothing bad or mildly noisy was happening: his students were working wonderfully, the only noise that could be heard were their pencils against the paper of their notebooks and some faint whispers of a few.

Normally, he would have killed someone in order to enjoy a pacific and silent day like this: a day with no screams -in both terror (Midoriya) and killer intent (Bakugou)-, fights (Again, Bakugou), scolds (Iida) or plain bullshit (Mineta and Aoyama), thing that, since he was the homeroom teacher of 1A class, was beyond impossible.

So, instead of the enormous happiness that he would have felt in common circumstances, a continuous thought of alarm tugged at his brain the most part of the day. Why, you do ask?

Bakugou was missing.

Yes, the boy was loud and always annoyed beyond human capabilities, he was aggressive as an angry dinosaur, rebel, rude, and a lot of people judged him as just an instinct fighter who doesn´t use his brain. But the boy was intelligent and hard-working for his goals, he had proven himself a lot of times in this. As an example; he was never late, much less, skipped classes. His, classes.

So that leaved the parental figure of the 20 heroes in training with the interrogation of what had happened to his son- to his student. He was going to say student.

Was he sick? Then why none of his parents had called the school? He released a troubled breath. It was not that he was suddenly kidnapped by a villain, right?

The city would be full of explosions and ‘Die!’´s if something like that was happening.

Right?

He decided to not to worry, the guy must be sick and the worst thing he’d have to fight against were going to be his boogies. Because, if Aizawa couldn’t count on the rage and awful temper of Bakugou, he couldn´t count on anything.

The lack of presence of the blonde was obvious, most of the peace that today held was thanks to this issue. Midoriya hadn´t said anything despite his initial frown, seeming to be far more unattached to his former childhood friend and evidently thankful of a day without killer intentions for him. In the exact moment that Kirishima entered the classroom, he worriedly noticed the absence of Bakugou, and asked Aizawa about him. Lacking the will to worry further the redhead, he had assured he was fine -even if it was to assure himself too-, so, Kirishima was left without the company of his best friend, and now he was chatting with Mina and Kaminari.

And Todoroki.

She was usually quiet and today wasn’t the exception, her face was exactly as always; with that expression of (Aizawa knew) superficial indifference and coolness. But she was absent, the Hero could tell. He could feel the difference of her normal stare that gave him all her attention when he was explaining something, absorbing knowledge and techniques, and the distraction she was now experiencing. Sometimes, in nothing more than split-seconds, she turned to see the empty chair that the blond used to be in only to avert her gaze as quick as she realized it.

He didn´t know if he should sigh in exasperation and bang his head against the wall or smile in knowledge and fondness for his mini-heroes.

He decided against both and began executing plan C.

He dismissed the class stoically as ever, and everybody wished him a good day as they exited the classroom.

But before the last student was gone, he stopped her.

Because if there was something he could count on as much as Bakugou´s temper, was her.

“Todoroki.” He called with a soft parental spot that he and All Might have for the everyone in the class but maybe, and just maybe, stronger with a few ones. Like the troublesome trio that consisted on a Broccoli, an oblivious Cat-lover and a very angry and Explosive Potato. “Can I ask you a favor?”

The girl faced him without showing any obvious change of emotions. And nodded.

“Can you lend your notes of today’s lesson to Bakugou?”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

She was so fucking nervous.

She was standing at the door of the Bakugou’s house: a large and comfy building in a side of the city that she was not used to be. She breathed, trying to calm her heart that for no reason, was beating madly.

She was just going to give her notes to Bakugou´s mom and head straight to her lonely house until Sunday that Fuyu came back to ask him about this illness she had been feeling lately. -Because if it wasn´t an illness, what were her sweating hands, the nervousness and continuous increment of heartbeats? -. It was simple, and quick.

Then why, the bag she was holding was now frozen in a clear and shameful lack of he quirk’s control?

Oh, to the shit with that. Sooner she’ll ring the door, sooner she’ll have a peaceful and quiet afternoon away of aggressive cute boys.

She was reaching her hand to the doorbell when suddenly the door opened itself, showing a very sweaty and kind of green Bakugo holding for his dear life the doorknob.
Both of their eyes widened in shock seeing each other’s face.

“Half ’n’ Half?” He asked with husky and obviously sick voice.

“Bakugou?” She barely breathed.

He shot her a glance that screamed ‘Is my house, who the hell did you expected to see?’

She seemed to catch it, because she quickly began to explain herself with the faintest hint of nervousness in her voice. “I thought your mom or dad will-”

“They’re out ‘til Monday afternoon.” He interrupted her gruffly.

Today was Friday.

She mouthed an awkward ‘Oh.’

She then repaired fully on his appearance; his puffy red eyes, the paleness in his skin combined with a green halo and his stance that screamed how weak was his actual state.

“Where are you going?” She questioned, furrowing barely her brow in worry despite her deadpanned tone. She was pretty sure that he´ll just pass out in the middle of the street as a very angry potatoes sack. “Do you have a death wish or something?”

“You fucking wish, IcyHot” He growled, or tried to, because the sound that left his throat was hoarse and uncivilized, causing him a coughing fit. “We” He cleared his throat, because the word sounded more like an unintelligible echo. “We ran out of fucking damn medicine.”

She lowered both of her eyebrows slightly, unfazed as always by his rudeness, watching that he barely could stand on his feet.

“That’s not necessary. Step inside.” She commanded him firmly, and only then he noticed the bag in her hands. “Excuse me.” She announced politely before entering his home.

Recovering for his blush caused by a sudden thought, he began to complain “Oi, what the actual motherf-”

“Go to your room and get in bed. I’ll bring you medicine.” She said while leaving her brown ankle-boots neatly accommodated and entering in what she guessed, was the kitchen.

“Don´t” He just had another coughing fit, that finished with a loud sneeze. “Shit. Don´t fucking tell me what to do, Half n’ Half!” He growled with a constipated voice.

“The sick one has no word.”

He murmured a lot of incoherent curse words under his breath, but he was too tired, weak, and maybe hoping (Not that he´ll admitted this to himself) to complain.

“Upstairs. Second door to the right.” He said through gritted teeth while he retreated dragging his feet into the warmness of his room.

Maybe he had gave up too easily, but it was that option, or having her look at him at this pathetic, shameful and weakened state. That didn’t mean he liked the idea, either.

Fuck it. Currently, his pride was bigger than his aggressiveness or stubborn mind.

Meanwhile, and oblivious to his inner conflict, all she could do was hope with all her heart that he wouldn’t had seen her monumental blush, and began to work.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Bakugou growled under his bed sheets. Damn it.

Was he sleeping all along?

With a pitiful and constipated growl, he turned and covered his face with both hands, palms diggings on his cheekbones. Of course it had to be that.

Because, there was minus one thousand of probabilities that someone had come to see him when he was sick. And minus other billion if it was her.

Because of the common trips of his parents, he rarely had someone to keep him company at home. And because of the nonexistent friends that he had -until now that that pest of Kirishima seemed stuck to him- he used to take care of himself, and spend sometimes even three days alone and with his nose red.

Because he was The Absolute Badass Bakugou Katsuki; the best of the best, and he was perfect alone. No way in fucking hell he needed someone to take care of him. Never.

Also, there was the issue that he was as prideful as no one else had ever been, of course.

So, waking up as a zombie, totally uncappable to go to UA was a low blow to his self-proclaimed pride and strength. Well, better to sleep away the sickness alone as he was used to.

Until he saw her on his door. Todoroki Shōko on all her cold glory was standing in front of him with pink colored cheeks and casual clothes: a white simple V-neck shirt, jeans and an aquamarine jacket tied up around her waist, that made her look hotter than the fucking sun.

He clenched his fists. Why had he dreamed that?

It only made him to want to have he-someone to look after him, and that was not like him at all. Since when he needed someone? He wasn’t a stupid crying baby, for the love of All Might!

Now, besides looking like complete shit, he felt like it.

He felt so fucking lonely that it made him to want to punch something. And that made it all worse because now he couldn´t even hit a stupid fly even if he wanted to do it with all is might and force, that just now wasn’t really that much.

A heavenly smell filled his nostrils and interrupted his thoughts, making him believe that he was dead now and the paradise was growing near. But two knocks on the door threw away that belief.

He opened one eye to see Todoroki entering in his room with a tray with a glass of water, a box of pills and a bowl, cause of the smell.

Shyly, she seated in the bed edge and leaved the tray on his nightstand. She took the bowl and a spoon, offering them to him. “The medicine will not work if you do not eat first.” She mumbled, averting her eyes of him and choosing to watch the floor instead while her cheeks acquired a cute red tint.

Baffled, and with no words he accepted the meal, just able to murmur an annoyed ‘Fuckin medicine’ and took the spoon to his mouth. He didn´t even questioned how she knew that he hadn´t eaten anything. He smelled the soup and felt the warm it transferred to his hand, and then he decided to prove it.

It was so delicious that he almost cried.

“Thanks” He mumbled, barely audible and with an adorable blush contrasting his frowning face.

She smiled softly, grateful that her cooking skills were acceptable. “I brought you today’s notes. Everyone was worried about you.” She commented.

‘But no asshole is here, right, IcyHot?’ He thought. He growled in response instead.

But to some extent he was glad about it; it’s neither that he wanted to have a bunch of idiots in his place. He would have committed murder for sure.

He finished within short minutes, and after she placed the bowl on the tray, she touched his forehead with the back of her palm.

“Mm. Your fever is impressive.”

He doubted it was fever for his illness. Sure, he felt a little sweaty, but nothing compared with her touch that made him feel his skin was on fire.

His red eyes clashed against her blue and gray ones when she gave him the glass of water and a pill, both feeling a sudden but pleasant warmth when their hands touch each other’s.

“Well, I’m going to wash this.” She told him, and if he didn’t know better, is she wasn’t Todoroki Shōko for fuck’s sake, he would have said she basically ran into the kitchen.

Which was precisely what happened, with her heart hammering her chest painfully, still feeling his touch.

When she calmed herself a little, she did as she had told. Once everything was in order, she went upstairs again to be sure that the boy was still in bed and thanks to the medicine, halfway into a calm sleep.

“How are you feeling?” She whispered him, touching again his forehead. He still had fever, but he was evidently cooler than before.

“Betta’” He answered huskily, sleepy because of the pill. Stubborn as he was, he had kicked the bed sheets and was now feeling a little cold despite his temperature.

“I am glad” She whispered with a little fond smile. “Well, I hope to see you in class on Monday, Bakugou.” She bid farewell quickly, before she stared more at his flushed face. But he took her hand, stopping her.

“Stay” He asked, and she turned to see him in the eye because that was just insane. Maybe the medicine was making his brain a little clouded too.

“Bakugou, I-I can’t-”

“Please”

Her resolution crumbled at his voice, at the word he never used, but every response or thought was truly erased when she saw the seriousness in Katsuki’s eyes. And the plea behind his harsh voice.

He really wanted her to stay with him.

She felt her heart skip a beat, and her arm -the arm he was holding- lose strength. In that moment he knew she had gave in.

She began to go again towards the bed edge, where she planned to watch over him. “A-Alright, I-”

He pulled her to him, and when she was near enough, he took her waist and settled her in the bed, just right beside him.

“Bakugou?!” She silently squeaked, sure as heck her face now was redder than her left half of hair.

He simply attracted her more, hugging her petite waist and touching her nose with the tip of his other hand’s fingers.

“Hmm.” He exhaled with a tiny but sincere smile, amused by her reaction, while he closed his eyes. “You’re cute when you’re flushed.” He whispered hoarsely, but she couldn’t let herself to believe her ears.

‘Just ten minutes and I squirm out of his embrace’ She thought with a whole damned population of butterflies in her stomach, now mesmerized by his calm face and even breathing, signaling he was now fast asleep.

Needless to say; she was the warm he needed.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Bakugou opened one eye heavily, not really wanting to wake up yet. He smelled something fresh and appealing, and since he only smelled like a strange mix of ashes and soap in the mornings, he opened suddenly his other eye too.

He spotted strands of white and red long hair, and felt himself moving at the compass of a breathing that was not his. Then he remembered, and registered his situation with the beginning of a panic attack.

‘Fuckfuckfuckfuck I am a total motherfucking idiot!’

He was hugging Todoroki´s tiny waist, and his head wad comfortably set in her flat stomach, thing that explained the closeness of the smell and his comfort. Being that he was using her as a human pillow, and that she seemed calm, he assumed that somehow despite that clearly he had moved, he had also at least managed to restrain the utter savage he was when he slept normally.

She moved slightly in her sleep, mumbling something that he couldn´t hear, and lowered her arm.

Right into his upper-back.

He tensed automatically, feeling the soft hand hugging his body as well. Something funny crept on his stomach while heat rose to his heart.

He wanted to puke just because of the nerves.

Good. How was he supposed to sleep peacefully like this?

She was so cute like that…

… moment.

He had said that, to her, OUT LOUD.

‘fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck…’

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

The first thing she was aware of, was that she felt so comfortable that she couldn’t remember the last time she had slept like this.

The second and third ones, were a manly scent and her arms against something hard and at the same time, soft.

Then, breathing. She felt steady breathes that tickled her nose and cheeks.

She opened her eyes suddenly, finding herself in the arms of Bakugou. Just then, she gained enough conscience to feel as if someone had suddenly thrown cold water into her face.

She had her hands on his chest, touching the fabric of his black shirt but still feeling his muscles. His face was a strange sight: relaxed, making him look peaceful and adorable.
He had his strong arms around her, firmly circling her as if he was afraid she´ll go. Like he was holding something dear and precious he wouldn’t allow to slip away, because he needed it. It was a strong, but careful hug that shelled her into a nice and warm world but at the same time making her the one who relieved and calmed him.

“Good thing you’re awake now.” He said on a husky and hoarse voice.

Startled, she sat suddenly and stiff as a column while she flushed wildly, asking herself mentally how much time he had been awake. Trying to ignore the whole situation, but principally, her gigantic embarrassment, she decided to concentrate on things that held a higher level of priority with her usual coolness.

“How are you feeling?” She voiced out loud while he rose to be sat too, rubbing his right eye with the back of his palm.

Holy shit, how freakin’ cute.

“Fine.” He considered himself almost cured by this point, something amazing, if one thought about his state the day earlier. His throat was still sore and his nose dry, but, the tiredness and pain were basically gone. Was it the medicine, the soup, her…? He didn´t knew. Again, he usually just, waited for the illness to go as mysteriously as it had appeared.

“Good.” She tugged the edge of her shirt, nervous, trying to not be intimidated by his taller and muscular figure that she still could felt.

They fell into a strange silence that lasted a good quantity of seconds. And finally, both inhaled, preparing themselves, and blurted out at the same time.

“Why did you stay?”

“Why did you ask me to stay?”

She facepalmed, and he groaned loudly.

‘Smooth. Very smooth move.’

Was just a side effect of the medicine? She had just pitied him? Wasn´t he painfully obvious? Did she had to tell him everything right now?

Soon, Bakugo had enough, and with a swift move he grew closer and took a side of her jaw, touching her soft lips with his own, planting a chaste but desperate kiss.

She froze, completely, and as soon as she melted into it, the kiss was unfortunately over as he separated himself.

“Thank you” He said, fixing his red eyes in her with his hand still in her jaw. “For everything.”

“I-”

“Todoroki Shōko.” He called in an imperative voice, successfully shutting her up. Now that he had begun, he would not stop. He looked at her slightly parted lips, and slowly leaned closer “I love you.”

And he kissed her again.

This time she answered, both moving their lips in sync while he leaned over her making her back touch the headboard. She used one hand to keep herself in balance, and the other one went to the back of his head, tangling her fingers in his surprisingly soft hair causing him to release a low growl.

They stopped for air a second, panting slightly. She bit her lower lip, and answered him. She knew it was evident, since everything she had done was for a reason, and above all; she had accepted and returned the kiss. But she had to say it, she wanted him to know it for sure too, so she released a whisper with clear and firm voice.

“I love you too, Katsuki.”

Capturing her lips and moving his free hand into the small of her back making her gasp and arch towards him, making both of them impossible closer, he thought and swore, that he would handle another sick day like this, any day and every day.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

Monday morning in class, Kirishima voiced out what he thought last Friday: that Bakugou had gone to the trip with his parents. Ah, so he hadn’t been annoying Bakugou day and night because of that.

And Bakugou, being the sensible and nice person that he was, didn’t correct him.

“So, how was your weekend?” Asked the redhead with a giant trademark smile, hoping to hear an ‘adventure’ in the boring and aggressive life of this man that he considered his friend.

Bakugou saw that behind Kirishima, Todoroki had just arrived and was entering the classroom in that very moment with her characteristically elegant pace and half of her hair tied.
Maybe she felt his gaze, because she spotted him and with a faint smile, she rose a delicate hand as a greeting.

Bakugou smirked, and then he looked at Kirishima. “Nothing of your damned business, Shitty Hair” He replied with a scowl, averting his gaze that fell into the hypnotizing figure of his first and current girlfriend that walked elegantly in a way that made her long straight hair dance faintly. He smiled with a glint in his eyes. “But I can fucking tell you, it was hell more better than amazing.”
