Highly Questionable Snowball Fight

Summary:

Deku squad + Shinsou embark on a snowball fight that's less of a snowball fight and more of a meme.

Work Text:

“Okay, everyone line up!” Iida instructed, shuffling the five other kids alphabetically by last name, leaving a space between Tsuyu and Uraraka which was to represent himself. “I’m going to assign each of you a number from 1 to 6, then using technology I will obtain 3 unique numbers and those three will form a team with the other three form-”

“And we can’t just flip a coin because…?” Shinsou asked.

“Then we wouldn't be randomly assigning experimental units to treatment groups, and each experimental unit wouldn’t have a fair chance of getting assigned to a particular treatment group, and then our experiment wouldn’t-”

“For a simple snowball fight, I think this is unnecessary,” Shinsou stated. “Let’s get on with it.” Iida pulled out a TI-84 graphing calculator and, based on what the other students could see, began pressing random buttons at lightning speed.
After a grand total of five seconds, Iida said,“1, 3, and 6 meaning Tsuyu, Uraraka, and Midoriya form a team with Shinsou, Todoroki, and me forming the other one! The first team to get the other team’s flag and bring it to their base wins, and, because we’re at the UA dorms, Quirks are allowed. Now everyone to their team’s respective bases!” Iida ended his speech with a hand chop and caused Shinsou to roll his eyes. The six students made their way to one of two snowmen, graciously constructed by Todoroki, with either a red or blue bandanna on it. Each team assigned one of their members as team captain, Midoriya and Shinsou respectively, who drew a line in front of their team’s snowman. Until given the signal, no one or their Quirk was allowed passed that line.

“Uraraka, Tsuyu, whatever happens let’s all promise to do our best, Plus Ultra!” Midoriya said, hyping his team up.

“Plus Ultra!” The two girls cheered, raising their fists into the air. The other side of the snowy field was much quieter, with Shinsou staring at the two other boys, who were waiting for a heartfelt speech from their captain before they entered what could possibly be their final battle final battle.

“Shinsou, a general must command with grace and dignity, raise morale, and lead his troops charging into the enemy!” Iida declared. Shinsou looked from Todoroki to Iida, clearly confused as to how he became their team’s leader.

“Uhh, go team… I guess?” Iida sighed in disapproval, while Todoroki looked like he didn’t particularly care how lacking his captain was in speech giving skills.

“Are you guys ready?” Midoriya shouted from across field. Shinsou nodded in response.

“Ready. Set. Go!” Iida blew on a whistle, before giving it to the snowman and running towards the enemy's bandana. Todoroki, not having to worry about the safety of the whistle, was a little ahead of him, skating across the ice that he was creating. Midoriya stood waiting in front of his snowman, the other two running off to get on the offensive. Todoroki sent a film of ice under Midoriya, trying to destabilize him. Midoriya jumped away to the side, causing the icy sheet to hit his snowman. Green electricity crackled around him before he started running towards Todoroki. Iida, seeing an opportunity for the taking, crouched, before taking off with his Recripro Burst. Unfortunately for him, Midoriya noticed this and changed direction. He kicked Iida in the stomach, sending the boy sailing back towards his snowman. The force of the impact caused a wave of snow to rise up, some of it getting on Shinsou, who was standing guard. He brushed the snow off with a noise of disgust before refocusing his attention on Uraraka and Asui, no, Tsuyu.

“So your plan must be to attack me from two sides, thereby forcing me to pick whoever I thought would be more of a threat while the other stole my bandana.” Uraraka and Tsuyu’s eyes widened because, yes, that was exactly their plan. The pile of coats and jackets that Shinsou assumed was Tsuyu looked like she was just about to say something before Uraraka sent a ball of snow hurling straight at what he thought was her face. The snowball glanced harmlessly off of her many layers but did its intended job of silencing her. Shinsou sighed, so much for that plan. He backed up until he could feel the cold snow and sharp jab of a whistle against his back. He lobbed a piece of snow off from his snowman and threw it at Tsuyu, which wasn’t the smartest decision as it slid right off the waterproofing material. To his right, Uraraka had gathered a bunch of snow and was forming it into a ball about the size of a large table. To his left, Tsuyu was also gathering snow, ready to retaliate. Shinsou sighed again. This plan had better work, he thought to himself. He had to time this perfectly so that the moment Uraraka was blinded by the table sized snowball and Tsuyu was distracted with making more, he would act. He felt cold seeping onto his left arm, meaning Tsuyu had thrown her snowball and was currently distracted. He brushed the snow off, taking his time while waiting for Uraraka to strike.

“HYAAAA!” It didn’t take her long. Just before the snow came crashing down on him, Shinsou kicked. He felt his boot go through thick layers of snow, and added his own weight as he fell backwards due to Uraraka’s snowball.

“Tsuyu grfasb gfhbdf bb z nczn z!” Shinsou could barely hear anything as the tried to dig himself out of the snow. As he kicked and punched around, his hand came into contact with a metal object, Iida’s whistle. Not questioning anything, Shinsou grabbed it just as his left hand reached the sun. Sitting up, he coughed up snow and tried getting as much of it off of him possible. Uraraka and Tsuyu were still digging around, trying to find the blue bandana. Further away, Midoriya, Todoroki, and Iida had switched from punches and kicks to punches and kicks but with snow, and ice in Todoroki’s case. Shinsou yawned before deciding that sitting down and watching whatever else happened would be a good use of the remaining time his team had left before Uraraka and Tsuyu found their bandana.

“KACCHAN, LOOK OUT!” Shinsou turned to see a snowball flying straight at Bakugou. Oh no, he thought to himself before the snow landed smack into the boy’s face. He could see Kaminari’s mouth moving, saying something that looked suspiciously like “Oh shit.” There was a moment of silence before the storm erupted. Bakugou, yelling in anger, launched himself towards Midoriya, who was already hiding behind his snowman, Todoroki and Iida looking on in wonder. Shinsou looked down, not wanting to witness the slaughter that was about to happen. There was the whistle, wrapped around his hand, but also tangled amongst the chain was a chunk of blue cloth embroidered with white thread. Shinsou sighed for the third time. This simple snowball fight was getting way too out of control.
