Work Text:
“Sabito, you do know that I used to play dress-up with my big sister, right?”
“Yes.”
“I can do this by myself—”
“This is a dangerous mission. We’re about to fight against an Upper Moon for the first time, and I want to be prepared.”
“Do you trust me?”
“Of course I do.”
“You’re so worried.”
“Of course I am.” Sabito sighs, dipping the brush in red powder. “Now stay still while I do your makeup.”
“I never thought I’d hear that from you,” Giyuu teases one last time before he closes his eyes and finally lets Sabito paint his eyelids. Just like his swordsmanship, Sabito makes precise strokes with the brush, and Giyuu can unfortunately only imagine the concentrated look on his best friend’s face, brows knitted and lips taut.
“Can I open my eyes?” Giyuu asks quietly, as Sabito works on his brows. He’s holding Giyuu by the chin, and his touch feels strangely delicate, like it doesn’t belong to a swordsman.
“No, not yet. Only after when I'm done.”
Giyuu sulks. “Why?”
“Because I’m distracted enough by how beautiful you look.”
Giyuu is sure he won’t be needing any blush, because he feels his cheeks burn at that. “Okay.”
Sabito finishes with a coat of lipstick, and Giyuu can feel Sabito’s breath tickling his skin as he paints his lips. He’s totally resisting the urge to just lean in and—
“Done.”
Giyuu’s eyes widen at his reflection on the mirror. If he had gotten comments about looking pretty before, then he wonders what people would say to him now. Sabito’s work is immaculate. There isn't a single blemish left uncovered; his eyes are delicately accentuated and his cheeks are glowing from the powders. His lips are an arresting bright red, practically begging to be kissed.
“See? Beautiful,” Sabito says, and Giyuu laughs at the faint pink dusting his cheeks.
“Sabito, I think you made a mistake here,” Giyuu says innocently, smacking his lips together. If there’s one thing he’s always been good at, it’s hiding his intentions.
“Really? Where—”
Sabito’s face is covered in red kiss marks when they come out of the Water Estate, earning a smirk from Uzui, who’d been waiting for them the entire time.
“Did you touch him?” Uzui asks.
“I just might have,” Sabito glares back.
“I have three wives, man. Easy.”
“Giyuu is my wife.”
“Uh huh.”
“I’m off to work now, my husband,” Giyuu says, his tone shamelessly affectionate. His smile almost gives Sabito a heart attack.
“You better not let anyone touch him, Uzui!” Sabito fumes from behind them. “If anyone even looks at him funny, I will personally end them!”
Giyuu laughs, and when Uzui isn’t looking, blows Sabito a kiss as they head off towards the red light district.
