Work Text:
Weather Report anxiously taps his fingers against his thigh as he makes his way to the coffee shop. ‘It should be somewhere around here.’ he thinks, looking up at the buildings surrounding him, the bright colors and flashy signs all attempting to catch people’s attention as they make their way through town. In reality, the true eyecatcher is the coffee shop, the dark blue sign and comfortable exterior providing a calming change of pace as he finds himself standing in front of the modest little building.
Rolling up his sleeve slightly, he checks the time on his watch. “Fifteen minutes early, perfect.” He murmurs to himself, pulling open the door to the shop and being greeted by a pleasant chime from the bell above the entrance. A cheery employee greets him, and he surveys the cozy shop. Sure enough, his eyes meet those of the man he’s here to meet-- Jotaro Kujo.
He gives a nervous smile and approaches the man, who stands up. Whether it’s to intimidate or greet him is unclear. “Hello, Dr. Kujo!” He greets, holding out his hand to shake the older man’s. Jotaro gives him a firm, borderline aggressive, handshake, holding eye contact with him. “Here, take a seat.” Jotaro gestures to the bench across from where he had been sitting moments before, the two mugs of coffee still steaming on the table.
Taking their seats, Jotaro eyes Weather Report as the latter removes his coat and takes a sip of the coffee the man had ordered for him. ‘What would Jolyne think if she knew I was having coffee with her dad?’ He can’t help but think as he sets his mug back down. “So, how’s your day been?” He asks Jotaro, resting his chin in his hand.
Jotaro’s eyebrows rise, but he starts going on about his day nonetheless. He’s talking about who knows what, and Weather Report is on a completely different planet. His eyes start to wander, running over Jotaro’s beautiful black hair and down to his lips, watching as he wets them between sentences, admiring how softly he touches his lips to the coffee mug as he slowly brings it to his mouth and takes a sip.
It’s silent for a few beats, and Weather Report is still in his own head when Jotaro clears his throat. Weather Report quickly removes his chin from his hand. “Huh?”
"I said, what are your intentions with Jolyne?" Jotaro's gaze is boring into Weather Report from across the table. “You seem very close.” He has his hands folded patiently and Weather Report purses his lips in confusion.
"I'm sorry? I don't think I understand what you're getting at, Mr. Kujo." Weather Report tilts his head, and Jotaro momentarily finds it cute before regaining his train of thought.
"I thought it was a simple question. What are your intentions with my daughter?" Jotaro quirks an eyebrow at the younger man.
Weather Report takes a moment to mull over his answer. "Well, we've been meaning to meet up for a while. I was thinking of asking her to come over and play video games sometime next week, maybe go get lunch?" He began twiddling his fingers at some point during his rambling, and he quickly corrects it, instead looking out the window and blushing in embarrassment.
Jotaro looks pensive for a moment, pursing his lips in thought before speaking up. "I'm sorry, I seem to have misunderstood. I thought you had feelings for Jolyne."
Weather Report brushes off the apology and gives one of his own, cheeks going pink as he shakes his head, clearing the shock from his mind and excusing the older man. "No, I seem to have misunderstood. I thought you had feelings for me, Mr. Kujo."
The silence seems to drag on forever, the only sound being the ambience of the coffee shop. Couples are happily chatting, employees are brewing coffee and helping customers in line, but nothing can be heard from the two men’s table.
Weather Report finally speaks up, voice wavering. “I’m sorry, I should go. Tell Jolyne I’ll drop by on Tuesday.” He stands up from his seat, grabbing his coat and apologizing profusely. “I’m really sorry, Mr. Kujo. I completely overstepped my boundaries, I’m sorry.” He’s putting on his coat when Jotaro interrupts yet another apology beginning to spill from his lips. “Listen, it’s really not that big of a deal--”
Weather Report shakes his head. “No, no it was totally inappropriate of me. I’m sorry for assuming, I really should be going.” He zips up his coat and turns on his heel, heading out the door and into the cold once more.
------
Jotaro enters Jolyne’s room. “I need you to give me Weather Report’s phone number.” Jolyne looks up from her magazine. “Huh? What for?”
“I want to thank him for meeting me for coffee the other day.”
Jolyne raises an eyebrow. “Okay...”
------
It’s been radio silent for three days, no word from Jotaro. Weather Report rolls over on the couch in another failed attempt at getting comfortable. ‘How am I supposed to sleep when I left on such a bad note? This is ridiculous. I should just go over there and--” His train of thought is interrupted by the phone ringing.
He gets up, walking to the kitchen and answering the phone. “Hello? This is--”
“Weather Report, I’m sorry. I should’ve reached out to you sooner. I was wondering if you wanted to meet up this week? I think we have some things we need to clear up.”
Weather Report blinks in stunned silence for a moment. “Of course. I would love that, Mr. Kujo.”
“You can call me Jotaro, you know.” Jotaro chuckles from the other end of the line.
A genuine smile graces Weather Report’s lips in what feels like ages. “Okay, Jotaro.”
