Work Text:
A taste is never enough.
Taehyung yearns to feel the sweetness of it in his mouth, the thickness of it clogging up his arteries as he dares to breathe.
Heart hammering in it’s confines, he can only hope to survive. Love is an attendant which often never comes to the party alone, and heartbreak is it’s close kin.
It is not a question of if, but when.
When Jeongguk finally sets his eyes on something worth his while, his own soul thrumming in the melodies that his soulmate makes as he leaves Taehyung behind in the dust. They always do, but it seems as if it’ll hurt a bit more this time.
The ache will come with a vengeance, and Taehyung waits for it with open arms because it will be the only part of Jeongguk he can have entirely. Forever.
Always, a convenience he is not allowed to have.
But for now, he will settle with brushing his fingers through the roughness of Jeongguk’s locks, inhale sharply at the light filtering down onto the dip in Jeongguk’s back. The younger could never fathom how much he is loved, how his beauty continues stunning Taehyung with every passing heartbeat. Unending pain comes with a faint sense of misplaced satisfaction, the momentary expansion of Taehyung’s lungs whenever he places a peck on Jeongguk’s lips. The air that rushes in, digs at the roots that the flowers in his chest have formed whenever Jeongguk kisses him deeper. With purpose. With meaning.
The purpose of satisfaction, only a quick gratification for him, but Taehyung will forever obsess over the ghosts of Jeongguk’s fingertips on his body. He does not wish to be hurt, but perhaps the younger ruining him will not be the worst outcome.
With a cinched throat, Taehyung watches the days turn. As Jeongguk finds people endlessly, wondering when his time will finally be up. When he’ll find the one who’ll have marks just like his, who’ll make the blood rush to his chest and leave him light headed.
Just like he leaves Taehyung, constantly.
He had been craving for a taste, but it grows more and more bitter everyday.
Taehyung lets his tongue burn, the petals climbing into his palate, but he can only pathetically attempt to swallow down his love again. Smile with bloodied teeth as Jeongguk tells him that he thinks he might have found the one.
The day was always coming, Taehyung shouldn’t even be surprised with the outcome. He may not have a soulmate, but he does have Hanahaki, and that’s close enough.
Jeongguk may not love him, but he doesn’t need to. Taehyung loves him enough for the both of them.
