Not Afrayed

Summary:

Midoriya Izuku was many things. He was Quirkless, he was bullied, and he has a Soulmate. He KNOWS he has to, with the crimson strand wrapped around his finger. Honestly, sometimes, the idea that someone out there would love him was the only thing that kept him going.

— — — —

Todoroki Shouto is many things. He's a monster, he's worthless, and he's unlovable. His mother scarred him and left him under the sole guidence of his asshole father. His mother.

She was so excited to meet her soulmate: the perfect someone for her, someone who would be able to take her away from the hellscape. That never happened. Soulmates were a load of bullshit, a point firmly drilled in by his father, and at the age of eleven, Shouto was going to cut any ties with them.

Chapter 1: The Spool

Chapter Text

Shortly after the appearance of Quirks, one young girl in Tokyo had discovered a red thread seemingly tied to her right pinky finger while playing. Already out of the sandbox, she was quick to find her mother and told her that she had somehow gotten a string on her finger.

The mother was confused as her daughter held out her hand excitedly but she didn't see anything. She was about to say something along the lines of, "Sweetie, nothing's there" when she felt a light tug on her left hand. Her bewilderment only increased when she found red strands of thread securely wrapped around her pinkie with one thread spilling out onto the floor and, curiously, beyond the house door.

Soon, the reality of Quirks had descended upon the world in a flurry of anarchy. 1 out of 100 people had Quirks but everyone would look down at their hand to find an odd little string attached.

Many speculated that they connected back to an old Asian legend; the Red String of Fate. It told of individuals brought together by the matchmaking and marriage god, Yuè Xià Lǎorén, using the blood in their veins to connect each individual with their fated partner.

This theory was later proved, but this story is not about that. No, this story is about two boys who are many things and become two of society's strongest pillars (with some drama and romance in between).
