Work Text:
Mina smiled, big and happy, in her desk chair as Bakugou roamed around her room, looking for the brush he set down.
It had taken HOURS of begging on her knees, but Bakugou had finally agreed to sacrifice his Saturday evening to tame her wild, curly mane. She knew it would be a difficult task, but she had to try when she heard he was good with hair.
He said yes, eventually, thank the lord. Though she knows for a fact that last year, he would've blown her sky high. But that was then, and this was now; it was their second year, and Bakugou had changed a lot.
She was honestly proud. She feels a brush land in her hair, and immediately starts melting at the gentle pull.
Even now, he was being more gentle than Mina last year would ever believe.
The whole time he sat there, brushing her hair, he muttered a 'sorry' at every slightly hard tug, careful to avoid her horns. The rest of the time, he was humming something. And the whole time, he had this concentrated look on his face. Not angry; just pensive.
It was honestly mesmerizing, that the boy could be that calm. He was known for his loud angry cursing and his loud energy and aura and everything...and yet, here he was, sitting here calmly brushing her hair with more kindness than even her own mother had used, in times of frustration.
And the humming and careful brushing was nearly putting Mina to sleep. It was simply...relaxing.
It was then that Mina realized that they really saw a different boy than the others in her class. The Bakusquad, her and those four other people who really, truly seeked him out.
She smiled, and she guessed it seemed suspicious or something, since Bakugou stopped, glare returning. "Somethin' up, Pinky?"
She laughed. His nicknames were never creative, but they still felt like theirs. "Oh, nothing Blasty." He glared a moment more before returning to his task. "Actually…" she began, and he kept going this time. She kicked her legs, energy getting the best of her. "Why do you hum when you're doing this? And where'd you get the practice?"
The comb stopped for just a moment, Bakugou seemingly pausing, before it kept going. "...I used to be the only one who could brush Deku's hair without havin' 'im bawling within the first five seconds. Bastard used to be real whiny about caught knots, and the only way to calm him down would be with humming." He paused. "Guess the habit stuck."
She smiled, laughing back. "Yeah. Guess it did."
"...want me to stop?" He muttered.
She shook her head best she could without ruining his work, a fond smile blooming. "Nah. It's nice."
He paused. "Thanks." And then kept going.
They stayed there for longer than they probably needed to, Bakugou brushing Mina's hair as she talked. She didn't at first because she was basking in the moment, but eventually she got bored; not to say she didn't like the situation. Just that it got a bit too quiet.
Eventually, she fell asleep, it seemed. She found herself in bed at some point, watching Bakugou put away supplies and even messes in the room that weren't his, his back turned to her. But what glimpses she did see of his face were fond eyes and a slight smile.
She smiled herself as she fell back asleep again.
It may have taken a bit to get there, but God was it worth the effort.
