Work Text:
It was the morning of February 15. So much excitement and adrenaline from the previous day prevented him from sleeping, so Kaminari decided to get up for a cup of hot tea.
It was no surprise to find Shinsou hanging around the common room and or the kitchen at that time, after a whole year together, the whole class was used to finding him awake. Apparently it was because of his quirk.
Shinsou didn't react with apologies or excuses either, now he simply let his classmates accompany him, silently clearly, because the migraines at that time were strong, sometimes painfully strong.
For a few minutes they were in complete silence, each making their favorite tea, exchanging nervous glances from time to time.
Minutes later, they were both sitting in the biggest couch, one in each corner, quietly enjoying their drink, but Denki was not a fan of silence, and he was still too excited to hide it.
"So... How was your Valentine's Day Shinsou?" he began in a low voice, not moving his lips away from his cup, trying to look relaxed when he clearly wasn't. The other boy just turned his head to look at him and drop a "It was fine, I guess...". An answer was an answer and that was enough.
"Did you get a lot of presents? I bet so because I still think you're famous among girls!" and there he went, his voice alternating between high and deep but louder than anything, always full of emotion.
"Yes, some. And you?". Shinsou knew that asking Kaminari something was like giving him a free pass to talk. Talk a lot. And he did so, with remarkable emotion on his face, settling down and crossing his legs, leaving his body completely facing Hitoshi.
"Oh, well, now that you ask..." Shinsou frowned and sipped some of his tea, mentally preparing himself for whatever he had to hear.
"To be honest I received more than I thought I would receive, but that made me happy you know. Besides, they were all so pretty, there was a great variety, from typical chocolates to things I didn't know existed, most had very sweet letters, I also received things from the girls of our course and I am not going to lie... I was impressed to see even a gift from Jirou, I guess I can already say with confidence that we are friends, after all it is our last year and I think we have already gone through a lot of things so we are definitely not just classmates anymore, right? I also gave one to her, and the whole course really, to some 3-B class guys too and... Sorry, what was I saying before this?... Ah yes...", it was a very small pause but Shinsou, who looked at the ground during Kaminari's speech, looked up, staring at him.
The blond really had the expression of someone who was mentally debating whether to tell something or not. As if it were a secret or something. But it was not, because for a second their glances connected and as he pulled away his back to the cup in his hands, Kaminari let out a soft laugh, inaudible to the other, before speaking again.
"There was one... Someone took too much time and I dare to say that money too, in my gift. It was a rather cliché gift, you know, flowers, chocolates and a teddy bear, but it was very romantic and the letter..." a long sigh left his lips and with his voice becoming soft and calm, he continued, "that was the most beautiful letter I read in my life. I felt that person's feelings deep inside my heart. And you know what, I imagined myself with a couple. I imagined how nice it would be if instead of receiving anonymous gifts, my partner came to me with gifts in their hands, one like that huge teddy bear that someone gave me, or told me beautiful words in my ear, hold me tight in a hug, kiss me and make me... happy"
Both were silent for a few minutes, the atmosphere had suddenly become tense and sad. The tea was already cold by the time Kaminari noticed Shinsou's gaze on him, again, apparently worried. So to show him that he was okay he smiled, as only he knew how to do it, showing all his teeth and closing his eyes. And somehow it worked. Shinsou refocused on the empty cup of tea in his hands.
"I'm sorry, it's just that so many things have happened since I entered the course that I already feel like a man in his thirties who still doesn't get a girlfriend..." neither said anything, although they both knew which teacher crossed their minds. "I mean, I would like to receive a gift from someone whom I can hug and kiss to thank, do you understand me?"
"Yes, I understand you very well..." Shinsou got up slowly and headed towards the kitchen, washing his cup without saying much more than that before apologizing and heading to his room with something that, to Kaminari, sounded like "I have some hours of sleep to recover... Amm, I'm very sorry", leaving him completely alone, with still a few words in his mouth and confusion. Had he said something wrong or was it the opposite?
-
Already in his room, Shinsou was sitting on his bed, hugging his knees with a smile adorning his flushed face. His body was shaking with emotion and his stomach was spinning. Were those the famous butterflies that everyone talked about?
He couldn't think correctly, Kaminari flooded his thoughts. His smile, his bright golden eyes, his voice, his expressions, all of him. He had never heard the blond's voice for so long, not talking about things outside of class or training, even if they had been together for some time now. For several minutes, Shinsou could not help seeing his world dye with bright colors, sparks and beautiful feelings.
Although his moment of happiness was interrupted by his alarm, alerting him and making him jump and hold on to his legs for a second, it was already six in the morning. So early.
It was so early and he had already felt too much, more than the previous week together, more than the day he was confirmed that his efforts had been enough to enter the department of his dreams. Hitoshi had a few days this happy, so he decided to keep it in his memory.
He dropped to his right side, bringing his knees to his stomach once more and covering himself with his blankets. Focusing on his feelings.
With his eyes closed he began to relive everything, from the moment he decided to make a gift for Denki, how much he fought to get the money, the teddy bear that by the way was bigger than himself, the letter... That piece of paper in which he left all his feelings for the electric boy, the moment he played a race against time to leave the gift before everyone returned to the rooms, the moment he saw Denki show off his gift for a whole day, until the moment when he lost himself in the blond's words, imagining each scenario he related, together.
And he did it again. He imagined himself next to Denki, hugging him, making him laugh, holding his hand, sharing moments only the two of them, protecting him, kissing him, loving him. There were too many possibilities, but once again, it all ended by the noise of his phone. He really should turn down the volume.
A message. He had a message from Denki.
He opened it fast, maybe very fast and regretted having opened it, because the wave of feelings drowned him completely, leaving him even without air for a few seconds.
Denki had just sent him a picture with a small message. In the photo Hitoshi could appreciate his angelic smile while hugging the huge teddy bear tightly, he looked so adorable, so small, so happy. Hitoshi blushed even more.
"Thanks for the gift, I really loved it. Can you put your name next time? That's something I love too. Your name. Happy Valentines Day Hitoshi <3"
"He always knew it was me?" a whisper, his voice refused to leave his throat.
If moments ago he had managed to control himself, this time he definitely couldn't do it. That is why instead of running into Denki's room and holding him tightly in his arms, smiling like the teenager in love he was, or jumping and screaming of happiness, Hitoshi broke into tears, eventually becoming a small sobbing purple ball in the middle of his bed.
The feelings were too strong and overwhelming for him so crying was his only option, but he was happy, he really was. He had a chance with his first love and that was enough for him to feel stronger than All Might himself.
That was probably the first time he fell asleep crying for happiness in a long time.

Kaminari on the other hand, moved and twisted from side to side on his messy blankets, smiling so much that his face ached.
He was more than determined to have something serious and responsible with Shinsou, he wasn't for a simple flirt, Shinsou was much more than that for him.
When he could calm down and think coherently again, he felt fortunate and proud of himself. After all, if it had not been because he paid attention to the private classes he had with Hitoshi, he would not have recognized his calligraphy in the letter and would continue to dream of a situation like that.
But now that he had the opportunity and something like a permit from the other boy, Shinsou would have to prepare for a massive dose of flirting and daily love, because Denki was good at many things, but he was terrible at hiding his feelings.
