Summary
My fanfiction starts off a few days after Peeta returned to District 12. I was rather unsatisfied with the ending of the books so I decided to fill in the ten to fifteen years that were left out before the Epilogue.
"He was so close; I could almost feel his body. Still we did not touch. His lips hovered just a hairs breath from mine. As our eyes met, I shuddered. We were both looking for something, searching each other’s eyes for something. Something we could hold on to. I could read the confusion in his eyes, the doubt, the questions. I could see how hard it was for him to be this close to me.
“You’re standing in front of me. Real or not real?” he asked quietly, and his breath brushed over my still opened lips. I swallowed and tried hard to withstand the look in his eyes.
“Real.” I whispered back.
He nodded, suddenly indifferent, then stepped back and whatever had been between us just there snapped like a bowstring. It knocked the air out of me. My knees got weak and struggled to keep myself upright. Panic began to dig its poisonous, iron claws into my chest. I shouldn’t have come here."
