Chapter Text
"I loathe Scorpius Malfoy with every ounce of my being!" Rose shouted as she walked into the fifth year dorm for the Gryfinndor girls.
Her best friend Sarah rolled her eyes. "What did he do this time?"
"In Care of Magical Creatures, he made fun of me for being scared of the Jarvey!" Rose huffed, tearing off her school blazer.
Sarah snorted from where she was reading her textbook in a chair. "Were you afraid of the Jarvey?"
Rose glared in her direction. "They are so rude. Besides, the Ministry of Magic classified it as a level three!"
Sarah just shrugged, not unused to Rose coming back from class complaining about Scorpius Malfoy. The two teens had a bitter relationship since first year, when Rose quickly rose to be the smartest in their year. When they were 11 years old, Rose's cousin Albus was sorted into Slytherin with Scorpius and the two had become best mates. Whenever Rose was around, Scorpius would poke fun of her. Over the years the teasing turned to insults until the two couldn't be in the same room without getting into a fight.
Rose plopped down on her bed and unpacked her homework. It was Friday night, but Rose liked to get head starts on essays. However, she didn't even get the chance to read over the assignment before her cousin Lily burst into the room.
"Rose, did you forget? We are supposed to have family dinner tonight!"
Rose groaned, setting down the paper. "Do I have to come? It's stupid we are having it on Friday anyways."
Lily bounced over to her, grabbing her arm and pulling her to her feet. "Yes you have to come, we all voted that Friday worked better this week because of the Sunday Hogsmeade trip. Besides," Lily added, "Dom is bringing her new mystery boyfriend."
"She hadn't told me she had a new boyfriend?" Rose asked. Dominque Weasley was the same age and house as Rose, and she always told Rose everything.
Rose looked at Sarah, who just shrugged her shoulders.
"I hadn't heard of that either."
"I think he's a sixth year," said Lily. "Want to come Sarah? So you can meet him too?"
"No thanks, I'm not hungry."
Rose raised her eyebrows at Sarah, but Sarah buried herself back into her book. Rose knew the real reason she didn't want to come was because of Albus. Lately Sarah couldn't be around Albus for more than two second without getting flustered.
"Your loss," Rose said, "Alright Lils, let me change out of my uniform."
When the girls got down to the Great Hall, most of the family was already sitting down and chatting. The brood tried to get together every Sunday for dinner; a tradition that went back to when the first Weasley cousins started school. Rose sat down next to her brother, having not seen him all day.
"Hugo, how did you do on your History of Magic exam?" Rose asked, reaching for the salad bowl. Rose got her answer as soon as Hugo's cheeks started to turn as read as a tomato.
"I tried, I really did! But I kept getting names mixed up!" he said, "How am I supposed to remember like 20 names of dead people, it was hard!"
"It's alright Hu," said Fred, "I don't remember names well either. In fact...which cousin are you again?"
Hugo reached across the table and punched Fred in the arm.
James was shoveling his food in his mouth when his eyes grew wide.
"That better be a bloody joke."
"No way," said Al, "Is that-"
"Solderini." sneered James.
Rose turned around to see their cousin Dominque walking towards them holding a tall, lanky boy's arm with dark hair.
"Solderini? The Slytherin captain?" Rose asked, "As in the one who is keeping Al from trying out for the team?"
"That's the one," grimaced Al.
"But isn't he a seventh year?" whispered Hugo
Rose looked back at Dom who was beaming. She looked almost opposite of the boy she held on to with her strawberry blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She seemed very pleased with herself being on the arm of a seventh year.
"Hi guys! This is my boyfriend, Blaine," she said brightly.
Only Lily responded.
"Hello Blaine, I'm Dom's cousin Lily!"
Blaine gave her a look of disgust, followed by a simple nod. It was in that moment that the family decided they hated him.
Dom started introducing the family one at a time to her boyfriend, but it was obvious he could care less what their names were. Blaine gestured for them to eat a little ways away from the rest of the family. James let out a low grumble.
"Out of all the boys in school, she had to pick him?"
"Be quiet James!" scolded Lily, "You don't want Dom to hear. I don't like him either, but if Dom likes him, we will give him a chance. Or at least put up with him."
Dominique giggled very loudly, making James violently stab his steak with his fork. "You don't know him Lil, he's bad news."
Rose turned to look at Blaine and Dom. He had his arm around her and was whispering in her ear while Dom was hanging on to every word he said. It was obvious she was head over heels for this guy, which didn't happen very often. Since she was part Veela, boys were usually obsessed with her.
After dinner, the family started heading to their separate common rooms. Rose was on the way up with the other Gryffindor cousins; Lily, James, Fred, and Hugo, when she remembered she forgot to get the book she needed for class.
"You guys go ahead, I have to stop at the library real quick!" Rose said.
Fred shook his head, "Rosie, Rosie. When are you ever not at the library?" She rolled my eyes.
"I just need to grab a book for my transfiguration homework. It'll be like five minutes," and she sprinted off towards the library. After a while of searching, Rose found the book she needed...on the very top shelf. Rose was relatively short, so she was forced to get the stool so she could reach. She was flipping through the pages when she heard the cold, sniveling voice that ruined her night in an instance.
"Well, well. If it isn't Weasley."
