Work Text:
You set down the bags on the counter, Wakatsuki stepped into the kitchen, a towel wrapped around his neck. He had just gotten out of the shower.
“Sorry I couldn’t make it. Had a match.”
You looked over your shoulder and gave a small smile.
“Don’t worry about it. I already knew that so you don’t have to worry about it.”
You packed away the leftover food into the fridge.
“So how did it go?”
You didn’t hear him, honestly. Your mind was somewhere else; mostly replaying the conversation over and over again. How was it possible for someone to be so selfish?
Wakatsuki called your name softly and placed a hand on your shoulder.
“Hm?” You snapped out of it, and looked over at him.
Wakatsuki walked over to you and gingerly reached out to kiss you on the forehead. You could feel a well of emotions bubbling up in your chest. You leaned into his chest and felt him wrap his arms around you. You moved your head to the side and gave a sigh.
Taking a deep breath, you explained the conversation from last night. You found out some disappointing information about a family member's actions in their relationship. It was purely selfish and another party was completely heartbroken as a result. It upset you greatly, knowing this person almost your whole life and to hear the mistake they were making was disheartening to say the least. You couldn’t help the tears that came out.
Wakatsuki was silent, but listened the entire time and rubbed your back in a slow loving manner. After a few minutes of contemplation he spoke.
“I know it's not what you want to hear, but they need to talk it out and work it out.”
You were quiet, taking in his words..
“As for the other person they have to decide what they want; and give an ultimatum. It sucks, but this person won’t stop their selfish behavior until the other person puts down their boundaries…”
You gave a sigh. He was right, and you felt the same last night. But it still didn’t help how heartbroken you felt that this person you respected, was acting in such a selfish manner.
Wakatsuki’s heartbeat was steady and even. It was so comforting to be in his arms. So warm, loving and understanding. You breathed in, inhaling his scent.
With the emotions still swelling all you could manage was a small nod.
You stayed like that for a while. Wakatsuki was such a patient man, that the both of you could have stayed like that all day - and you wanted to stay that way in his arms all day but also didn’t want to wallow in the emotions from the other night.
“I know...but I can’t help but still be disappointed in them.” You gingerly pushed out of his embrace.
Wakatsuki removed his arms around you but kept a loose embrace.
“I know.” He lifted up your chin and looked into your eyes. “But you can’t change them or this situation, the only thing you can focus on is yourself. You can’t let things like this drag you down.”
You held onto his hand and looked away. “Yeah.”
He placed a hand on your cheek.
“I’ll make it next time.”
You gave a small smile. Having Wakatsuki there during another get together might not stop the issue - but it’d be a comfort that he was there with you.
“Okay.”
He called out your name and you looked up. “Don’t let this bother you. Their issues are theirs. And ours are ours. The problems in one person’s relationship doesn't mean it will affect ours.”
“Thank you.”
You leaned into Wakatsuki again and wrapped your arms around him. You were grateful you had him, that he was so patient and understanding. He would tell things as they are, but there were always words of comfort to follow as well.
Leaning into his arms you felt safe and secure. The warmth from his body radiated into you and honestly there was no other place you wanted to be.
