When One Door Closes, Another Opens

Summary:

It's been two weeks since the suicide of Bakugou Katsuki, and the world seems to move on. The world has been dull for Midoriya Izuku. He's being completely ignored, and he feels abandoned. He doesn't blame Katsuki! Not at all! He just wants to know: why?

Chapter 1: In the Beginning There is Darkness

Chapter Text

What? Me? A sequel from the heart break I already put you through? (Shaggy voice) It wasn’t me.

Anyway! Hello dear readers! I always read those “Ghost Izuku” stories, but what about a ghost Katsuki story? 👀 If there is one already, PLEASE LET ME KNOW I WANT TO READ IT.

Continuing on, I hate my laptop lmao. If I press the space bar twice it gives me a period, but sometimes I only press it once, and it does it. It literally did this five times in this one paragraph. Alas, I just need to get it check.

On with the good shit.

————//////————

It was lonely after Kacchan… left the world of the living. That’s weird for me to say right? I wasn’t particularly lonely before, people still acknowledged me. Whether it would be to scoff at me as I passed by, or in Kacchan’s case, yell at me for something.

After that phone call, it seemed he was more so angry at himself and had been suffering, which in turn made him lash out on someone. I was the perfect target. Being quirkless had that affect. Couldn’t fight back, just weaker in general. Kacchan must have been struggling with his affections toward me.

It’s been two weeks and everyone seems to just go on with their life. Like nothing happened. No, like someone never existed. Kacchan had so much potential, but I guess even the strongest crack.

We were talking about potential schools we would want to go to. A migraine started to sit in as everyone cheered about going in to a hero course. Kacchan would have gone to UA, in the hero course where he belonged.

“Midoriya, you’re planning on going to UA, correct?” our teacher asked, making all of the student’s gaze turn to me. Some tried to hide their laughter, but some of Kacchan’s old followers let the laughter through.

“You? A quirkless loser, getting in to UA? Bakugou must be turning in his grave at this!”

This made me angry. How dare they say that about him?!

“Like you know anything about how Kacchan felt!” My desk rattled as I slammed my hands upon it. “I may not be able to get in to the hero course, but I will try my hardest!” I felt my hair brush against my face, their faces started to pale, but I still pushed on. “You all are horrible!”

Objects started flying past me, tacks, a stray stapler, papers, the guy behind me’s backpack, chalk from the blackboard that hung behind us, and a broom. Everyone startled out of their frozen statures, and started to panic. I looked behind me, but didn’t see anyone behind me that could have caused it. In my confusion, the objects stopped flying toward my classmates, but came to me slowly, circling me.

“Was that Midoriya’s doing?” a female cried in confusion.

“Impossible! He’s quirkless!” her friend whispered back.

“But look! His hair is floating, and his eyes are glowing! Fucking glowing!” a male classmate next to them spoke, the one with long fingers.

“Congrats, nerd. You were finally able to unlock your quirk,” a voice came from my left. My eyes widened, shock on my face. “Well, you gonna look at me?” I looked to my left to see none other than Kacchan, in his middle school uniform, blood caking one side of his hair. Otherwise fully intact. The world seemed to stop. I didn’t even notice the objects that were swirling around me had dropped to the floor. All I could focus on was Kacchan. He… he was here? No one else seemed to notice him, though.

I gazed amongst my class mates, each confused, terrified, or both. I slowly slunk away, then booked it out of the room. I could hear Kacchan’s laughter as I ran and ran. Further from school, from that class that just forgot about one thing that has been a strong pillar in my life until two weeks ago.

I stopped under a bridge, catching my breath. I could barely remember the run I went on. My breath finally went back to normal, and I took in my surroundings. There were trees on each side of the underpass I was beneath. Maybe I’m near a park?

“Jeeze, Nerd. Never thought you would run from me,” commented Kacchan as he appeared next to me once more. I backed in to the wall. This had to be a quirk, Kacchan suddenly appearing just did not make sense. “Fucking Christ, Deku. You look like you’re about to shit yourself. Yes, I’m dead. I’ve been following you for sometime now, you just couldn’t see me, obviously.”

“B-but there’s n-no su-such thing as-as-,” I started muttering out, before being cut off by Kacchan.

“As ghosts? Well, obviously that’s not true, dumbass. I learned that already. It’s not too bad. I don’t really feel anything besides emotions. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, though. Not as angry as I was before.”

“K-Kacchan, why did you-.” Once more I was cut off, but by someone else.

“Oh look, a meat suit. A Schizoid one, but it’ll do,” stated the voice as I was taken a hold of from behind. It was disgusting and smelt of sewage, it made me gag from the harsh, stale scent. I was struggling in its hold, and I could barely hear Kacchan yell at me to use my quirk. How? I just got it today how am I supposed to?

As its grotesque limbs were inching toward my throat I felt a strange sensation of lightness overcome me. I kept writhing in its hold and all of a sudden I felt a pulse and the villain was forced away from me and splattered against the underpass. “What the hell kid?! You look so weak!”

The villain looked like he was struggling to reform when suddenly a man shoots out from the manhole in the area. “I AM- here?” the man half-shouted. He looked confus-ALL MIGHT?!

“All Might?” Kacchan and I whispered as he strode up next to me, mouth agape.

“Yes! It is I! Young man, what happened?” questioned the number one hero, starting to collect the sludge. I startled and began explaining what happened. It was a short explanation, but I felt tired after the whole experience. “My boy, I would suggest going home to rest. I need to be off now! I need to bring this villain to the police! Justice must be served!”

As he started stretching, I ran up to him and cried, “Wait, All Might!” I clutched on to his pants leg as he flew. “Wah! I didn’t mean to do this!”

“Hey! Kid! This is dangerous!” He flew down to a nearby building, and I released my grip. Kacchan floated down toward us with an annoyed look upon his face.

“I’m so sorry, sir! I just had to ask you a question!” I called as he started to retreat.

“Terribly sorry, my boy, but I must be off. I do not have much time-,” he started.

I shout, “Can I become a hero even though I just got my quirk today?” I heard a poof, and my jaw dropped. I looked to Kacchan to see if he was seeing the same thing I was. He looked confused and skeptical. The skinny man before us resembled All Might, if he were to shrink and lose all his muscle mass.

“I have a lot of explaining to do,” the older man sighed. He went on to talk about All for One, and his quirk, One for All. When he was finished he gave a small smile. “I do believe you can become a hero. With the correct training, even though you had just gotten their quirk today, you can become a hero that inspires people.”

Tears ran down my face, mouth opening and closing in disbelief. THE number one hero just said I could be a hero! This day is going to give me whiplash. “Now, young man, I really must be going.” He ruffled through his pockets and produced a pen and paper, writing something on it. “I may not know a lot about telekinesis, but I can help strengthen your body. Text me a good time to meet. I will state the place in the message.” He slid the paper in to my hand, walking away.

“Deku! All Might just gave you his number! Say something!” Kacchan yelled, ripping me out of my daze.

I stuttered, “Th-thank you sir!”

All Might leaned over to ruffle my hair, chuckling, “It’s no problem, my boy. Just don’t forget to text me.” With that, he was off.

I couldn’t help but stand there, mouth agape for a couple moments before I saw I hand waving in front of my face. “Deku! Oi, Space Cadet! Are you in there?” Kacchan called to me, a slight frown to his face. “You’ll catch flies like that, idiot.” I shut my mouth, while Kacchan’s pulled in to a smirk.

“You’re going to make fun of me for a while, aren’t you?” I asked, blushing slightly.

He shrugged. “Most likely. Now let’s go. It’s almost time for Auntie Inko to expect you home.”

I jumped, looking at the time on my phone. “Eek! It is almost time! We gotta go!” I started a fast pace to the stairs, taking them two at a time as Kacchan laughed at me.
