Chapter Text
“The Red String of Fate, often also referred to as the Red String of Marriage is an invisible red thread between two or more people. This string was supposedly created by the gods to show the humans who they were meant to be with, in that life. Few were blessed with the ability to see the string, however, those who can’t may only feel the string tug when they speak to their soulmate.”
Uraraka was sitting on her bed pinky held up to her face, examining every detail of the crimson thread tied around the small finger. She had a small smile on her face as she ran her fingers over the thread almost lovingly. This thread would lead her to her soulmate after all, not to mention she was one of the lucky ones in the world to be able to see the thread. Letting her head fall onto her chest as she plopped into a laying position she could feel her heartbeat. It thumped calmly being the only noise she could hear right now in the silence of her room. The new school year started, she’d worked hard to get into the prestigious high school that would only open up so many more opportunities for her. Maybe she’d be lucky enough to meet her soulmate there, lucky enough to meet them at the sweet age of sixteen. Ideal and almost like a fairy tale, young and new meeting the love of her life. Just the thought made her cheeks heat up. If she kept this up she’d look like a zombie as soon as her alarm went off. Slapping her cheeks lightly as to not wake her parents she finally let her eyes close and drift off into a blissful sleep.
Shinsou sat in his bed, alone in the apartment just waiting for his mother to return home from work. Not like he could sleep if he tried, resting his head in his palm he looked at his hand. Nothing, of course, there wouldn’t be anything. Not like he ever thought there would be for someone like him. Messy purple hair, tired indigo eyes, and barely having the “ideal” body for any girl or boy. Even the world knew he was less than subpar. An almost sad laugh escaped his lips turning up in a smile. Looking out the foggy window, rain falling outside he stared at the empty sky. Stars hidden by the most likely dark clouds if they were visible. His phone lit up vibrating with a little message box popping up. The contact name making him roll his eyes as he picked it up to answer. Of course, Kaminari was texting him so late. The message was bright almost burning his eyes in the darkness of the apartment and the night sky.
‘toshi dude r u ready 4 school? no need 2 ask if ur awake u never sleep :P’
The text itself made his eyebrow twitch, well no surprise the guy was so blunt about his question. It was more surprising to him that he was up though honestly maybe the guy had too much energy to sleep. He wouldn’t shut up about the possibility of cute girls at their new school, something that really didn’t keep his attention but at least he wasn’t alone in his inability to sleep tonight.

The light shined through the window of the brunette girl before her clock began beeping aggressively to tell her it was time to wake up. A hand emerged from under the heavy and patched comforter as it slammed down on the clock. A head emerging from under the blankets and then an entire body. Eyes blinking as she stared blankly at the wall before shooting open as she stumbled out of bed. It was the first day of school! How could she forget like that! Jumping as she began pulling up her leggings and her skirt, she reached out to grab her white button-up shirt. Finally, her clothes she adjusted the red tie and pulled on the nice jacket, her shoes were by the door so she could slide them on before leaving. As she ran a brush through her hair she arrived in the kitchen to see her mom and dad preparing for their own busy day. Her father having a quick simple breakfast and giving her a warm smile as he did every morning. Her mother making sure everything was clean before she would leave to do her own job, busy and very tired she quickly pecked her daughter on the forehead and told her to grab something before she left. Ochako felt terrible that they wouldn’t let her help out by either helping her dad’s company or taking a part-time job but they had continuously told her to focus on her studies. Something along the lines of ‘we want you to have a bright future and do what you want to do.’ She’d always shake her head at it but grabbed a simple banana before wishing her parents goodbye and leaving with her bag and shoes. About to peel the banana she saw the string on her finger bright red against the duller yellow of the banana, her parents’ string was bright and strong. They were a perfect match and only let the string grow stronger through their love. She wanted that same love. Sure her’s was bright but it was thin and weak-looking, she took this as a sign her partner didn’t believe or didn’t think they had one. She snapped herself out of it but smacking her cheeks lightly earning a few glances from passersby. She began to peel the banana as she raced to make sure she wouldn’t be late on her first day. Not even noticing the string becoming less tight, becoming looser as she moved towards the school building. After about ten to fifteen minutes the building came into view and banana finished she sped up excited to enter the school. This was her first year while it was about the second year for most students, it had her nervous. Those nerves were interrupted as she walked straight into the back of another student almost a foot taller than her. She stumbled back about to fall as the guy grabbed her wrist when he turned. She could hear another male voice start laughing as she looked up at the guy. As she laid eyes on him her face immediately heated up in embarrassment, he may not have been the most attractive but for some reason, her heart skipped a beat. She moved to make sure she was standing eyes trailing to his hand seeing how short the string had become. Her eyes widening as he let go and their string grew as he moved away.
“You should be more careful.” He said before his friend snickered as the taller one, who’s name was a mystery to her, began to pull his blonde friend away. She looked up only to see the laughing one wink at her with a ‘call me’ gesture. She just looked at the growing string her heart still beating quickly. What just happened?
