Work Text:

Mia Fey was born and raised in the concealed land of Kurain Village, along with her younger sister Maya. Their mother, Misty Fey, the current Master of the Kurain Channeling Technique, vanished in shame after the DL6-Incident, a tragedy where Miles Edgeworth's father Gregory was murdered by Manfred Von Karma, his father's rival, and Misty was called to channel Gregory's spirit to decipher the name of his killer. The spirit called the name of an innocent man, and as a result Misty, along with Kurain Village as a whole, was vilified by the press, claiming their spirit practices were fraudulent. Mia would never see her mother again, but she was desperate to find her.

It was one fateful day when Mia decided she was going to leave Kurain Village for good. She had been conducting research regarding her mother's role in the DL6-Incident, and discovered Marvin Grossberg, the head of Grossberg Law Offices, sold secrets of her mother's powers to the press. Mia was determined to discover the truth by traveling to America and becoming a lawyer herself.

Mia was hard at work packing her necessities for the train ride out of Kurain Village, when young Maya stumbled upon her sister's belongings in shambles.

"S-Sis? W-What's happening? Where are you going?" she stammered.

"Oh gosh, I'm sorry Maya!" Mia said. "I was going to tell you soon, but I-I'm....I'm leaving. For good."

"W-What?! Why?!" Maya cried. "Why are you leaving the village?! W-Why are you leaving...me?" She began to tear up. Maya adored her older sister, and the discovery of her departure devastated her.

Mia rushed to her baby sister and embraced her, as Maya softly sobbed into her arms.

"It's not you honey, it's me." Mia confessed. "I-I have to know the truth. About Mother."

"M-Mother..?" Maya gasped. She hadn't seen their mother since she was two years old."

"The media is saying bad things about her Maya, and I want to clear her name. Our family name. Plus, you remember how Mother and Aunt Morgan always were mean to each other before she left?"

Maya shuddered at the horrid memories of the harsh disputes her mother and aunt would get into, but she never understood where the animosity came from. "Y-Yes, I remember."

"Well, the reason for that was despite being the younger sister, Mother was more spiritually powerful than Aunt Morgan, and that is why she became the Kurain Master. And Aunt Morgan despised her for that, still does, from what I can gather. It destroyed their sisterhood, their bond. I don't want that to happen to us. I love you too much to fight with you over that."

"I don't ever want to fight with you either, that's so mean!" Maya exclaimed.

"Exactly." Mia replied. "So when you're older, you'll take Mother's place as the Kurain Master. You have my blessing."

"T-Thank you sis!" A small smile crept onto the young girl's face among her dried tears.

"And hey, it's not as if you won't hear from me again. I'll give you my cell phone number so that you can call me whenever you'd like! Who knows, I may even allow you to assist me with keeping evidence for certain cases I partake in."

"Oooh that sounds so exciting! Like something straight out of a movie!!" Maya excitedly exclaimed.

Mia laughed. She really was going to miss her little sister.

"No matter what happens, or what direction that life takes us, you can always count on me, Maya. Always." Mia began to shed tears of her own.

"I...I love you, sis." She said, gazing into Maya's beaming eyes.

"I love you too....Mia." Maya stuttered, before both sisters held each other tightly and didn't let go.

Notes:

I hope you guys enjoyed this little interpretation of Mia's departure from Kurain Village! I love Mia/Maya's sister dynamic so much, it's a shame Mia was taken from Maya far too soon :(
