Chapter 1: Fist Day Jitters

Chapter Text

The sun was out, and a few clouds blotted the sky as they drifted about lazily. It would be a lovely day for calm and relaxing activities. Unfortunately, calm and relaxation was the last thing Hikari was feeling. She looked at the schedule in her hands and tugged at her skirt again. She wished the school hadn't made the uniform's skirt so short. Hell, she wished she didn't have to wear the damn thing at all. She would wear tights under it, but her thunder thighs had a tendency to rip them up. Instead, she had opted for stockings. She looked up and the large '1-A' painted above the door. Hikari took a deep breathe and pushed the door open.

"GET YOUR FEET OFF THE DESK."
Hikari nearly jumped out of her skin at the sudden loud voice. A boy with glasses and neat hair was busy scolding another boy with spikey, ash blonde hair who did in fact have his feet propped up on the desk. Hikari slunk to the back of the classroom, tuning out the rest of the conversation. It was all yelling, so she didn't feel like listening. As soon as she had sat down, the door opened again. She looked over. A boy with fluffy green hair stepped in and looked concerned to see the bickering boys further down the row where Hikari was sitting. He looked to be just as nervous and uncomfortable as she felt. Even though she had just sat down, she got the feeling she should try and talk to him to settle his nerves. Hikari got up and walked over to him.

She cleared her throat. "Hey," he jumped at her voice, "I'm Suchuwado Hikari." She greeted. The boy looked honestly surprised she was even talking to him. He blinked a few times before opening his mouth. "I'm sorry, were you talking to me?" He asked. Hikari couldn't help but laugh a little at his bashfulness. "Yeah, I was." She confirmed. The green haired boy's face went a little red. "Oh, uh. I-It's nice to meet you, Suchuwado. I'm Midoriya Izuku." He greeted, putting a hand out. Hikari smiled and took his hand. He kept his grip loose, probably trying to not hurt her, but she squeezed his more firmly. "You can just call me Hikari. I'm not your teacher, so you don't have to be so formal." Hikari told him, keeping her expression friendly. Izuku looked a little taken aback. "But, we're not on friendly terms...are we?" He asked, face burning a little more. Hikari laughed again. "Well, unless you don't like me, I'd say we are." Izuku smiled brightly at her. Hikari could tell already that they would be great friends.

A gasp was heard from behind them. They turned around to see a bubbly, brown haired girl standing in the doorway. "It's you! Curly hair! I'm so glad you made it in!" The girl cried in excitement. Hikari noticed how Izuku's face went a bright red as the girl started to babble at him cheerily. She smirked at his reaction. As she listened to them almost make conversation, she felt eyes staring at the back of her head. Hikari turned around to see the ash blonde staring daggers of hate at her. She tensed up, but found herself fascinated by those crimson eyes of his. As she stared over at the kid, the boy with glasses came over to introduce himself to Izuku. "Class is going to start in 2 seconds, move." A boy's voice muttered behind them. They all stepped to the side as the kid walked in. "Why aren't any of you sitting?" A new voice croaked from behind them. Hikari, Izuku, and the brown haired girl all slowly turned to the source. A yellow sleepingbag with a tired face greeted them from the floor. The man inside lowered the zipper just enough to pull out a pouch and suck the contents dry. "Welcome to the hero course." He told them, just as croaky as before. The brown haired girl looked very uncomfortable. Hikari had to keep herself from laughing. The man stood and shed his sleepingbag. "I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa."

The appearence of Aizawa had certainly shocked and confused most of the class, but it had come to their attention that he was a more obscure hero, known as 'EraserHead'. He had given them all jumpsuits and told them all to meet him in the field. Hikari felt much more comfortable in this change of clothes, but also confused. Weren't they supposed to go to some kind of freshman orientation? The brown haired girl raised her hand. "Yes, Uraraka?" Aizawa said, acknowledging her. "Why are we out here? Shouldn't we be at orientation?" Uraraka asked. Hikari wanted to know the answer herself, but she lost focus when she felt eyes on her again. Those angry, crimson eyes were glaring in her direction again. It took her a moment before she realized that angry kid was staring at Izuku, who was next to her. She felt herself relax at the realization. She decided to take this moment to study him a bit closer. He had rather strong, sharp facial features, and from what she could tell, he had a nice build under that jumpsuit. His ash blonde hair looked incredibley soft. The way his skin was slightly tanned was beautiful. He was fairly handsome, she admitted to herself.

"...these were all things you did every year, but were banned from using your quirks in." Hikari tuned in to hear the ass-end of Aizawa's explanation. "Bakugou," the ash blonde Hikari had been studying stepped up, "How far could you pitch a softball in middle school?" Bakugou shrugged as he thought. "I don't know, 67 meters I think." He responded. It wasn't a particularly interesting answer, but Hikari hung on every word. She wasn't sure why yet, but she wanted to be Bakugou's friend. Aizawa tossed him a softball. "Try it with your quirk. As long as you keep it in this circle, anything goes." Bakugou smirked as he stepped into the painted circle. He rotated his shoulder around to stretch before realing back to begin his throw. Hikari found herself leaning forward a bit, watching with baited breath. "DIEEEE!" The ball went soaring in a literal blaze of glory. Aizawa held up a small device. 705.2 meters blinked on the screen. Without realizing it, Hikari let out a soft "Wow." This Bakugou guy was impressive to say the least. "Kacchan is pretty strong, huh?" Izuku spoke up from beside her, startling her out of her stupur. "Kacchan?" She asked. Izuku turned to look at her. "That's what I've called him since we were kids." He explained. Hikari's expression softened. "That's so cute." Izuku smiled back. He already really liked Hikari. He felt extremely lucky to have her as a friend. "Whoever comes in last of all the tests will be expelled." Aizawa's words rang in their ears. "EXPELLED??" A majority of the croud cried. It certainly was a shock. "But that's not fair!" Uraraka complained. "UA is an unconventional school. When you're out in the real world doing hero work, things won't be fair. On that note, I see fit to make decisions that will seem unfair." Aizawa explained simply.

The first trial was the 50 meter dash. Everyone was grouped off in threes. Hikari could be fast, but she didn't have a lot of stamina. Her quirk wouldn't help in this trial at all, and it had been a while since she excercised, obvious by the extra fat on her torso. She was worried she would get a bad time, especially since she had been grouped with Izuku and Bakugou. Izuku was small, but he looked somewhat fast, and Bakugou would have a big advantage. The starting shot fired. Bakugou blasted past Hikari and Izuku easily. To her surprise, Izuku was just running normally as well. Bakugou finished with a 4.13 seconds. Hikari pushed herself and ended with a 7.01 seconds, just before Izuku. Their times weren't super great, but it could have been worse. Out of breathe, Hikari turned to Izuku. "Nice job, kiddo." She told him with a smile. He chuckled slightly, his cheeks tinting red. She heard a grunt. Hikari looked over to Bakugou. "Hey, Bakugou was it? That was an impressive time. Good job!" She encouraged with a smile. He gave her a dirty look before walking away. Hikari furrowed her brows. Had she done something wrong? Shit. She might have ruined her chance at being his friend. "Don't worry about Kacchan, he isn't the easiest to get along with." Izuku reassured her. She smiled back at him.

Every trial seemed to be progressively harder, but eventually it came to the softball pitch. Hikari had an idea on how to use her quirk for this one, but it would take a good amount of focus. She held the ball and took a deep breath. She focused her power into her right arm, molding her skin into wood, shaping her fingers into a bowl shape as she pulled her arm back. She slung it forward like a catapult and watched the ball fly. Aizawa held up his device. 300.5 meters greeted her. She winced slightly. It was definetely farther than she had ever thrown anything, but with everyone's amazing quirks, would that really compete? She hadn't seen Izuku use his quirk once the entire time, and all his scores had been fairly low. She was worried for him. She was worried when Aizawa erased his quirk and gave him warning. She felt near a panic attack. Izuku had a great quirk from what she had heard, and she felt he had a right to use it for good. He pulled his arm back and slung it forward. Just as the ball was about to leave his hand, one finger still touching it, he cried out a "SMASH." and sent the ball flying. The device blinked '705.3' across its screen. Hikari was...impressed to say the least. She had never seen Izuku's quirk in action, but it definetely lived up to its reputation. "WHAT??" Hikari jumped at the outburst. Bakugou was seething with rage. "What the literal FUCK?" He started to step forward, glaring with a murderous intensity at Izuku. "EXPLAIN YOURSELF, DEKU! WHY THE HELL DID YOU HIDE THIS FROM ME ALL THIS TIME? DO YOU THINK I'M REALLY THAT STUPID???" His hands started sparking intensely. A gasp rose from the croud. Hikari watched, finding herself frozen in place. "I'LL TEACH YOU." Bakugou started to lunge forward. Hikari wasn't sure what came over her, but she suddenly reached forward. She let her skin shift into titanium as she latched onto his arm. She barely noticed someone else, a girl? latched onto his other arm. When he turned to look at her, the intense look in his eyes sent a shudder  through her body. The sparks had grown into starling blasts, when bandages wrapped around him. Bakugou stiffly turned his head to look at Aizawa. The teacher looked entirely done with the situation as his messy, black locks floated around him. "That reaction was entirely innapropriate. If you continue this, you will be expelled immediately, Bakugou. Now, you damn kids need to stop making me use my quirk. I'm getting dry eye." He dropped his hold on Bakugou, who angrily stood where he was. Hikari could feel him shaking with his raw emotions. He looked over at her. Those crimson eyes made contact with her hazel ones. "Get the fuck off me." He growled at her. Hikari hadn't realized she was still holding onto him and pulled her arms back quickly, letting her skin turn back to normal. The other girl held his arm tighter and slammed him into the ground before scolding him.

Izuku rushed over to Hikari as Bakugou pushed his way into the croud. "Hikari-chan, are you alright?" He asked, concern etched into his features. Hikari chuckled uncomfortably. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks." She told him. He seemed to relax at her words. Aizawa pulled up the score board. Sure enough, Izuku had pulled up in last place. He stared at the projection with a pained look in his eyes. Hikari had never been particularly physical, but in this moment she felt a push. She grabbed Izuku's hand and gave it a good, firm squeeze. He looked over at her. His sad eyes softened. "By the way," Aizawa's voice cut through the moment, "that thing about being expelled was a lie." The whole group went silent. Hikari felt Izuku squeeze her hand this time around. With that, their teacher wandered off. Hikari and Izuku looked to each other at the same time, grins forming on their faces. "You get to stay!" Hikari cried. "Izuku-kun!" Cried the voice of another girl. They turned to look and a girl with long, light auburn hair raced over to them. She threw her arms around Izuku, who stumbled back a bit. "E-Emily??" He cried. Emily pulled back and smiled brightly at him. Hikari recognized her as the girl who had slammed Bakugou moments earlier. "You get to stay!" She practically rivaled the sun with her smile. Hikari felt her chest get weak with how cute this girl was. These two. They were both babies. She vowed to protect them. Uraraka and Iida rushed over themselves. "Deku!" Uraraka cried, excitedly. Izuku turned to them. Iida looked concerned. "Oh, my name's not Deku." He informed her. Uraraka looked confused. "But that boy, he called you 'Deku', didn't he?" She asked. Izuku pulled back a bit from his clustering croud of friends. "Well, Kacchan calls me that as an insult." He explained. "Well, I think it's cute. It kind of sounds like the japanese word for 'I can do it'." She told him, smile reappearing. Izuku's face went red. "Y-YOU CAN CALL ME DEKU." He cried as he looked away. "But Midoriya, didn't you just say-" Iida began. "I don't know what I'm saying anymore." Izuku mumbled in defeat. Hikari laughed at how cute the whole situation was. Despite the scares, it had been a good day. Hikari was glad to have made friends the first day. Maybe she did belong at UA?
