Work Text:

You woke up sick again. The pregnancy was much harder on you than the first one. Gavin was out on a mission and there was still a toddler to care for. You tried your hardest to get up from bed without throwing up everywhere but it was getting to be increasingly more difficult. Just as you leaned over your bed breathing in slowly you hear the pitter-patter of your daughter’s feet as she heads to your room.

“Mama!” She burst into the room with her hands up. “Mama?” She ran up to you and tugged on your shirt.

“Mama’s not feeling ok. Just let me go to the bathroom and I’ll be right there.”

“I help, mama.” She stretched out her chubby little hand and took hold of yours and led you to the bathroom.

“You don’t have to stay inside honey. Go ask uncle Shaw to play with you for a bit. I’ll be right over.”

“Ok,” she pouted. You smiled at her and rubbed her little head. Gavin was right, she looked just like you. As soon as she was out of the bathroom you retched into the toilet.

“Uncle.”

“Yes, dear?”

“Mama’s sick.” Shaw looked at his niece and was about to cry. He couldn’t bear to see her so sad.

“No, no. Don’t cry, sweetie.” Shaw took his niece’s hand and walked to her mother’s room.

“Knock, knock.” Shaw waited outside of her room for a while before entering. What he saw made his heart sink and within seconds he was on his phone.

“Bro, she’s crying. I don’t know what to do. You have to help me out. He’s on a mission. What do you mean don’t panic? She wasn’t like this the first time she was pregnant. Ok, ok. I’ll try. Thanks, dude.”

“Shaw?” You sobbed as you looked up at the panicked man before you.

“It’s ok. I got this.” Shaw paced nervously across the room. Your daughter followed him the whole time. “Of course!” Shaw stopped suddenly and pulled out his phone again and started scrolling through before his usual ridiculous smile was plastered on his face.

“Hey sweetie, how about we cheer up, mama?”

“Yeah.” She threw her arms up and started to jump in place. Shaw kissed her head and tapped his phone and soon his usual cheer up song started to play. The same song he had first played for you when he was drunk and unable to confess his feelings properly.

He looked over at you and winked. “I still hear your voice when you sleep next to me. I still feel your touch in my dreams.”

“Oh my God, Shaw.” You tried to stifle your laughter.

“Forgive me my weakness, but I don’t know why. Without you it’s hard to surviiiiiiiiive.” Shaw walked up to you and winked again before he turned around and began to dance his most ridiculous dance while screaming out the lyrics to the song. It wasn’t long before your daughter joined him in his ridiculous dance.

You laughed as you watched them, grabbing your phone to record the two as they danced around the bedroom. Once the song was over Shaw walked over and kissed your forehead. “Feeling better?” You smiled and nodded as you wiped your tears.

“Now, why were you crying?” He sat down on the edge of the bed, taking your hands in his.

“I just feel so bad. When I was pregnant the first time I wasn’t like this. Now I’m always sick and I can’t even spend time with anyone anymore. I feel like my daughter will think I don’t care enough. I mean she has you and Gav, but…”

“Shh, she knows you love her. Hey, remember, all pregnancies are different.” He squeezed her hand gently.

“Uncle, dance.” His niece held out his phone.

“Well, I guess that’s my cue.” He stood up and started the music again. It was moments like these that made you feel so loved by everyone. You were truly a lucky woman to be surrounded by so many lovely people.

“Are we having a party without me?” The door opened and there stood Kiro with his arms full of stuff.

“Uncle Kiro!” Your daughter ran up to him.

“Word on the street is that Miss Chips was crying. Am I too late for the ‘cheering up’ party?” Kiro draped a long purple boa over the toddler’s shoulders and she squealed in delight.

“Kiro, are those yours or…?”

“I borrowed them.” Kiro shot you his usual smile and you decided not to press him. “Ok, you two, I think we should have a dance contest.”

“Yay!”

“What do you think, Miss Chips?”

“Of course. I’d love to see what you guys have in store.”

“Ah, but first, we have to make sure you’re comfortable.” Kiro looked at Shaw.

“Oh.” Shaw ran over and placed a few pillows behind your back, using the closeness as an excuse to steal another kiss. You smiled at him and thanked him before he joined Kiro and your daughter.

“Okay, I want Little Miss Chips over here, and you Shaw, hmmm…” Kiro tapped his chin as he contemplated where to position your lover. You never expected that Shaw would’ve called over your best friend to cheer you up, but you were glad he did.

The rest of the time Kiro was there was just a huge talent show. Everyone laughed, danced, sang and had a great time. You forgot about all your worries as you watched them try their hardest to cheer you up.

“Kiwo, I win?” Your daughter beamed at the idol.

“Well, I’m not the judge, it’s your mommy.” He squatted in front of her.

“Mama, I win?” She ran up to the side of your bed bouncing in place until you answered her.

“Of course my dear.” You leaned over and kissed her chubby cheeks, her golden eyes lit up like little stars.

“Yay!” Kiro’s boa wrapped around her as she twirled in circles. Kiro scooped her up and gave her a small kiss on the cheek, bringing a slight blush to her cheeks. His charm worked on everyone it seemed.

“Come on, Little Miss Chips. Let’s go watch one of uncle Kiro’s movies while mommy and uncle Shaw talk.” Kiro looked back at you, “Feeling better, Miss Chips?”

“Yes. Thank you.”

“That’s what friends are for.” Kiro leaned in and kissed you on the forehead. “Alright little one, you pick the movie.”

“Yay.”

Shaw waited for them to leave the room before returning to your side. “I’m really bad at this. If Kiro didn’t come to save the day I don’t know what I would’ve done.”

“Nonsense. You had me laughing before he arrived. Don’t sell yourself short, Shaw. You’ve always known how to cheer me up. I just didn’t want to be a burden to you.”

“You could never be a burden to me. I love you. Both of you.” Shaw placed his hand on your belly and kissed you.

“Should we go out and watch a movie with them?” You caressed Shaw’s head as he rested it on your shoulder.

“Nah, let’s spend some time together while Kiro is on babysitting duty.” Shaw climbed onto the bed and kissed you gently. His hand never leaving your belly as he nuzzled against your neck. You had to admit you loved it when he was this clingy, even if it meant tolerating his whines of protest when you had to inevitably get up to go to the bathroom.
