Summary:

First day on campus and Wei Wuxian finds himself on the university's "Pretty Faces of Gusu U" twitter account. Coincidentally, he finds his (undeniably) pretty dorm mate, Lan Wangji, there as well. Will Pretty Face #2 Wei Wuxian ever tell Pretty Face #1 Lan Wangji what he thinks of him?

Notes:

Hi! It's Roki! This is very highly inspired by (so many) Facebook pages wherein they find pictures of those they think are attractive (this can be in the same locality or same school). AND before I ramble on and on here, I want to thank you for even thinking about opening to read this fic. I hope you have fun as it goes on! This will be very light on the plot and VERY NOT slowburn because Wangxian has already suffered from that in canon.

Anyways, catch me on twitter rambling about random stuff mostly wangxian @WEIYlLING

*lrt means last retweet

Reminder: Please do not turn off the creator's style of this fic or else the photos will be really annoying to read

Chapter 1: The box that fell

Chapter Text

“Are you sure that you’ll be fine, A-Xian?”

The man in question, Wei Wuxian, smiled at his older sister, grabbing the bag full of clothing from her and placed it on the ground next to his bed. “Of course, I am, A-jie,” he murmured, “Everything’s gonna turn out well, I promise. I don’t like it that we’re not on the same university anymore, but we’ll still see each other, right, A-jie?”

The woman, Jiang Yanli, gave her brother a smile back, patting his head as she answered, “Of course we will.”

“And besides, I still have Jiang Cheng to bother if something does go wrong.” Wei Wuxian stuck out a tongue at his brother who was bringing in two boxes full of his items.

“I’ll hide from you,” Jiang Cheng said, “You will never find me around the campus.”

Wei Wuxian pouted, “A-jie, Jiang Cheng is being a bully.”

“A-Cheng, A-Xian,” Jiang Yanli said with a threatening undertone, “You two will behave, right?”

Wei Wuxian laughed, saying, “Of course, A-jie.” He took a quick glance at his brother before looking at their sister again, “A-jie will stay away from Peacock, right?”

“A-Xian.”

“A-Jie,” Jiang Cheng started, “We’re just concerned about you. No matter how irresponsible Wei Wuxian is,” he continued, earning a retaliation from his brother, “I still felt a bit at ease that Jin Zixuan can’t hurt you that he’s around. Now that you’re in different universities, we can’t help but worry.”

Jiang Yanli gave her brothers a smile, “I’ll be fine. I’m on my last year anyways, it wouldn’t be long until I leave. And besides, we’re just an hour away from each other. If something happens, I promise that I’ll tell you two immediately.”

Wei Wuxian pouted again, “A-jie, will you miss me at the campus?”

“I will miss a certain someone who always waits outside my lecture room’s door so we could have lunch together,” Jiang Yanli admitted, “But, it’s time to go to your dream school.”

“If they had what I wanted to take up, I would never transfer schools!” Wei Wuxian whined, earning an eye roll from his brother.

“Wei Wuxian, I think you forgot that you still have some things downstairs,” Jiang Cheng stated as a matter-of-factly.

Wei Wuxian threw his body to the bed, lying face down on his pillows, “I don’t wanna move here!”

“You literally have no choice. Get up!” Jiang Cheng pulled his arm, “Either you will get up or I’ll let your things outside for when the rain pours.”

With a heavy sigh, the siblings all made their way downstairs to get the rest of his stuff, Jiang Cheng promising to get the three of them some drinks for when they take a break.

Wei Wuxian stacked the three remaining boxes and lifted them all in his arms, assuring his sister that it was fine. It was an easily flight towards and up the stairs with Jiang Yanli being his eyes since the three boxes covered his view. It was only an unfortunate event that the moment Jiang Yanli looked away, a person was in front of Wei Wuxian, receiving a bump and the top box falling to him. Time took a standstill for everyone involved once they all realized what happened: Wei Wuxian’s box of little trinkets flipped open, the contents dropping to the person who bumped into him.

“We’re so sorry,” it was Jiang Yanli who first apologized, followed by Wei Wuxian dropping the boxes gently, apologizing with a bow.

He looked up to see a man in pure white clothing, face stoic and unfeeling. The man stared at Wei Wuxian but he couldn’t help but give him an uneasy smile if only he could make the other smile as well.

“Sorry again, uh…”

“Wangji.” The three of them looked at the person who spoke up, a man who walking from behind Wei Wuxian’s latest victim, “Oh, was I interrupting something?”

Wei Wuxian noted that this man looked somewhat alike to “Wangji”, only this man seemed far more approachable, a comforting smile on his face.

“No,” The man apparently named Wangji replied, “Let us go.”

“But is it fine leaving your friends like this?” The kind man asked, “Ah, I’m Lan Xichen, Wangji’s brother.”

“So your name’s Wangji? Lan Wangji?” Wei Wuxian started, “I’m really sorry I dropped the box on you.”

“It is fine,” Lan Wangji answered.

“Oh, I haven’t introduced myself yet. My name’s Wei Wuxian.” He stuck his hand out which Lan Wangji shook briefly, “I just moved in.”

“Welcome to Gusu University, Wei Wuxian,” Lan Xichen said, “My brother is a man of few words, but I hope you two get along well. He too just moved in today and as an upperclassman, I don’t think I can be around him all the time so having friends with him will make me feel at ease.”

“I feel the same sentiment,” Jiang Yanli piped up, “I’m Jiang Yanli, Wei Wuxian’s older sister.”

“Pleased to meet you two, Wei Wuxian, Jiang Yanli.” Lan Xichen smiled, “I apologize for cutting it off early, but Wangji and I have somewhere to be.”

“No, it’s okay,” Wei Wuxian responded, “See you around, Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji.”

The two left the Jiang Yanli and Wei Wuxian alone in the hallway, Jiang Yanli picking up the dropped items.

“Lan Wangji seems like a good person,” Jiang Yanli said as Wei Wuxian started helping her pick up the items, “He lives in the same dorm as you too, so this could help.”

“I was thinking the same thing!” Wei Wuxian beamed wide, “A-jie, he’s my first friend in university.”

Jiang Yanli grinned at him and patted his head, “I just know that you’ll make a lot more. People here at Gusu sound and look nice.”

“Right?” Wei Wuxian picked the boxes up once more, giving Jiang Yanli the other box lest they wanted the problem to occur again, “I feel like I’ll stick out like a sore thumb though.”

“A-Xian, you’re kind, you’ll fit in perfectly,” Jiang Yanli assured him.

They made it back to Wei Wuxian’s room, placing the boxes on the floor and then taking a seat on the bed.

Wei Wuxian looked down at his fiddling hands, frowning, “A-jie, I’m really gonna miss you.”

“We’ll still see each other, A-Xian,” Jiang Yanli stated, “I’m not gonna be gone forever.”

“Still…” Wei Wuxian sighed, “Promise that we’ll go out with Jiang Cheng at least twice a week.”

Jiang Yanli nodded. Jiang Cheng entered the room, holding beverages for the three of them.

“Jiang Cheng you missed it!” Wei Wuxian jumped up, telling his story exaggeratedly, “I already have friend. What about that? How long did it take for you to find your first friend here?”

This earned him a light kick to the shin and then his drink being passed to him, “Who did you befriend? Ah, wait, let me guess, you flirted with someone downstairs and called them ignoring you as friendship?”

Wei Wuxian acted as if Jiang Cheng physically inflicted pain on him with his words, “Jiang Cheng! Watch your mouth! No woman will ignore me. Anyways, no, it’s a guy, and he lives in the same dorm and I think on the same floor?” He gasped, turning to Jiang Yanli, “A-jie, what if it was Lan Xichen who lived here instead of Lan Wangji?”

“Wait, wait, Lan Wangji?” Jiang Cheng asked.

“Yes, Lan Wangji,” Wei Wuxian repeated his brother’s tone.

“Lan Wangji is the brother of the Student Government President,” Jiang Cheng informed the two, “And I didn’t share classes with Lan Wangji in High School, but I’m pretty sure he’s not really the friendly type of person.”

“I don’t know.” Wei Wuxian shrugged, “Sounds like a you problem.”

“Wei Wuxian.”

“I have to leave soon,” Jiang Yanli informed the two, stopping their banter, “I promised A-Xian that we’ll go out twice a week, maybe we can make it three times if studies wouldn’t be too much of a burden.”

“I’ll go with you to the exit,” Jiang Cheng offered, “It’s about time he starts fixing his room.”

“Do you really have to leave, A-jie? Jiang Cheng and I can take turns hiding you in our rooms,” Wei Wuxian said, “Nobody has to know.”

“Stop acting like a child,” Jiang Cheng muttered.

“But I am! Xianxian is three. A-jie, you can’t leave a three year-old alone,” Wei Wuxian stated.

“I have to leave Xianxian at some point.” Jiang Yanli responded, “But I’ll be back.”

Wei Wuxian sighed, nodding, “I’ll go with the two of you too.”

The walk from Wei Wuxian’s dorm to the nearest gate was too fast for the siblings, but they knew that if they didn’t say their goodbyes and stayed for one more minute, it would be a lot harder to do so. The boys waved, watching as Jiang Yanli rode Jin Zixuan’s waiting car. They both sighed, also knowing that they had to say goodbye to each other since their dorms were on the opposite sides of the campus.

“Don’t act so sad now,” Jiang Cheng said to his brother who was only getting accustomed to the new environment, “We’ll see each other.”

Jiang Cheng knew that, though Wei Wuxian was excited for this new life ahead, he was still a bit scared. Having just transferred from a small high school affiliated with Jiang Yanli’s university to suddenly going to this new university that was a society in of itself, it certainly wasn’t going to be easy on him. But Wei Wuxian had the ability to cope quickly, that he was proud of but he would never tell.

“After you unpack your stuff, send me a text and let’s have dinner at the cafeteria with Nie Huaisang,” Jiang Cheng said, “And then maybe we could go to your classrooms so you wouldn’t get lost.”

Wei Wuxian beamed wide, “What was in that drink that made you so kind, Jiang Cheng?” He laughed, “Alright, I’ll see you two later.”

“Alright.” Jiang Cheng waited until Wei Wuxian turned his back before he went the opposite direction. It now really felt like he and his siblings were out experiencing the real world. Maybe they grew too fast.
