we're forever every time we get together

Summary:

It seems like Jungkook is on the same page as him tonight because all of a sudden he’s moving impossibly closer, hands gripping his waist, and Jimin can already feel his hot breath against his neck before he even opens his mouth. “Do you think-” he keeps his voice low, almost like a whisper but Jimin can still hear the slight shake on his words. “Do you think it’s possible to fall out of love?”

Work Text:

It’s that moment of the night that always finds them like this, tangled up in each other, limbs intertwined and bed sheets draped over them to keep their naked bodies warm. That moment of the night where the soft glow of the moon casting through the window makes half of Jungkook’s face light up and he can’t help but reach out and caress his cheek, exactly at the point where some strands of his long hair manage to fall on. That moment of the night where they’re just existing with each other and coming down from the high of open mouthed kisses, soft touches and skin meeting skin.

His boyfriend has his eyes closed and is breathing peacefully next to him, but he knows he’s awake, if the hand rubbing slow circles in his hip is anything to go by. They’re both night owls, they stopped trying to fight it a long time ago and it’s why now, at 2 a.m, even after endless hours of shooting a commercial for a brand, and with his back already starting to feel a bit sore from the activities of some minutes ago, Jimin’s mind doesn’t seem to want to rest any time soon.

It seems like Jungkook is on the same page as him tonight because all of a sudden he’s moving impossibly closer, hands gripping his waist, and Jimin can already feel his hot breath against his neck before he even opens his mouth. “Do you think—” he keeps his voice low, almost like a whisper but Jimin can still hear the slight shake on his words. “Do you think it’s possible to fall out of love?”

And at this, Jimin freezes, because he doesn’t know where this is even coming from and the sudden question makes him immediately start thinking of the worst. Is Jungkook falling out of love with him? His boyfriend seems to notice the way his body goes completely stiff, pulling away from his neck to look up at him while running a hand through the expanse of his back. He looks back at him and realizes Jungkook is waiting for an answer.

“Why are you asking me this? Are you—?” he cuts himself off. He’s sort of panicking thinking about it but, luckily, as soon as he’s saying those words Jungkook is pressing a quick kiss to his lips, “What? No. Are you crazy? I’m not talking about me.” His boyfriend gives him a reassuring smile and Jimin lets out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding, all the panic leaving his body as fast as it came. Leave it to Jungkook to give him the biggest scare of his life.

“Then where is all of this coming from?” he pushes Jungkook’s bangs out of his eyes and stares at him with curiosity. The fingers that are now back to holding Jimin’s waist fidget for a second before he says, “I’ve been thinking about my parent’s breakup and how they’ve always said to my brother and I that the reason why they split up was because it just wasn’t working anymore, that they didn’t love each other anymore.” he pauses, unsure of what to say next. Jimin gives him an encouraging nod to let him know that he’s listening, to let him know that he can tell him anything. “And— I don’t know,” he continues, “I was just thinking about that— wondering how is it possible to simply fall out of love with someone you love so much— well, someone you used to love so much,” he corrects himself, “because I don’t think that’s possible, how could it be?” he looks at Jimin with a frown, as if he can’t possibly think of a logical reason as to how that could happen in a relationship.

And Jimin doesn’t really know what to respond to this. You see, he’s not a relationship expert and just like his boyfriend, he doesn’t really know how people suddenly stop feeling things for each other but, he guesses, it’s something that happens and that there’s not much that can be done about it.

“Well, baby, I don’t know. I guess— I don’t know. I guess, especially with couples that have been together for years, things change for them. People change.” he pauses, looking for the right words to say. “Time is a tricky thing, you know.”

They’re still laying beside each other, so Jimin takes the opportunity to hike his leg up Jungkook’s hip, feeling the need to be constantly touching the other, feeling like the younger needs the affection right now. Why? he doesn’t know yet, but he guesses it has something to do with what’s troubling his boyfriend right now.

After a long moment of silence, Jungkook finally opens his mouth, “It scares me.” he averts his eyes from Jimin’s, like he’s ashamed of the thoughts that have been running through his mind. “To know that something like that can happen and that no one can do anything to stop it. I’ve been thinking about it and it scares me because— because,” he stutters, afraid to let his next words come out of his mouth, “what if that happens to us? I don’t want that to ever happen to us.” He looks up at Jimin again and he looks so conflicted, so unsure of everything. Jimin’s heart breaks a little.

Jimin knows that the younger doesn’t doubt their relationship, they’re a good team and they both know it. They work so well together, fit so perfectly with each other and love each other so much neither of them would ever question what they have, what they’ve built over the years. He also knows that sometimes it’s almost impossible not to think about the future, not to look at how other relationships end and worry that the same thing is gonna happen to them.

But Jimin also knows them. He knows how they are as individuals and as a couple, he knows how things are for them and how to fix them or make them better. He knows their love and he knows Jungkook knows it too. These things happen sometimes, these existential questions that can mean everything or nothing at all. These late night confessions that always mean something for them.

He uses the leg that’s still hiked up his boyfriend’s hip to change their positions and sit on Jungkook’s lap with his legs around his waist and his arms wrapping around his neck, the boy under him immediately resting both hands on his lower back. “You don’t have to worry about that stuff, baby. I know—” he sighs, “I know sometimes it’s hard not to and I have no clue what’s going to happen in the years to come but,” he starts playing with the hairs on Jungkook’s nape and looks at him with a serious but also fond expression on his face, to make sure Jungkook understands, “what I do know is that I love you. So much. Sometimes it gets kind of scary to think about how much I feel for you, but I know I don’t have to be scared because I got you and you’re all I need and nothing’s ever scary when you’re with me.” Jungkook stares at him with his lips parted and a slight raise of both of his eyebrows, a look that tells Jimin that this is what he needed. This is the reminder that he was looking for. Jimin smiles sweetly at him.

“I love you,” he continues, “and I can’t promise a lot of things when it comes to the future, but what I can promise you is that, no matter what, I’ll fight for you. Always. You hear me, baby?” he brings a hand to caress the scar on Jungkook’s face. “I’ll fight for us. You don’t have to worry, okay?” Jungkook nods and pecks his lips softly and that’s all he needs, but he wants to make sure.

“I love your smile,” queue Jungkook’s full bunny teeth smile making its first appearance since they started talking, “yeah, that one. I love how you scrunch your nose when I compliment you, just like you’re doing now,” at this, his boyfriend lets out a small giggle, “I love your moles,” he boops Jungkook’s nose, right where his little mole is, “and how some of them match with mine. I love your eyes, how big they are and all the little stars you hold in them.”

With a small smile, Jungkook shakes his head in disbelief and leans forward to connect their lips. It’s not supposed to be much, just their lips sliding against each other, just a way of Jungkook showing him how much he loves him, Jimin thinks, but the second he tilts his head to the side and deepens the kiss, Jungkook’s hands find his waist and he holds on tightly. Their tongues meet each other, making Jungkook sigh against his mouth. The kiss is lazy and languid, they take their time and explore each other like it’s the first time, like they haven’t shared a thousand moments like this already. Jungkook sucks at his bottom lip, making Jimin grip his hair and let out a little whine from how good it feels, how good every single thing with Jungkook feels.

They pull away from each other, knowing it’s very late now and knowing their kisses could lead to something else if they don’t stop. With a hand cupping his jaw, Jimin tilts Jungkook’s face up so he can look straight into his eyes and he’s a little taken aback at what he sees in them. He’s used to the warmth that Jungkook’s big doe eyes radiate when he’s looking at him, but tonight it’s different. Jimin can see so much love in his boyfriend’s eyes, he feels like he can’t breathe. It’s so intense and so beautiful, he starts thinking back to what he said earlier because this is what he meant. What they feel for each other is so strong, so intense, they could never stop it. They could never get tired of it, no matter what. Jimin can feel it in his chest, that this is forever, this— they were written in the stars.

Jungkook kisses him again, shorter this time, but just as sweet. He pulls back a little, “I love you, baby,” he mumbles against his lips, looking at Jimin with that glint in his eyes, that little glitter added in there that’s reserved only for him. “You’re so good, you’re so good to me. I want everything with you. I want to do it all with you,” he’s saying this with so much certainty, Jimin knows he’s completely serious. “We’ve already done so much and we’ve seen so much but, still— anything possible with you, I want it,” there’s so much gentleness to his voice, so much softness, like it would be wrong to say those words any other way, “You make me feel so good, baby, make me feel like I’m floating all the time, make me feel like I could go to the ends of the world with you and I’d be just fine. Would you go with me?”

Jimin gets a warm feeling in his chest from Jungkook’s words, after all this years he can’t believe he found someone who loves him this much. Smiling, he moves closer. With his hips now aligned with Jungkook’s, he cups his face with both hands and presses their foreheads together so they’re looking right into each other’s eyes.

“I already told you I’d go to the moon with you. To the moon,” he presses a soft kiss on the tip of his nose, “to the stars,” another on his forehead, “to Mars, to Tokyo” one kiss over each eyelid, “to the ends of the world and to wherever you want to go. Back and then back again. Anywhere as long as it’s with you, as long as it’s us together.” He says this while looking straight into his lover’s eyes, wanting to make sure he knows that he means every part of it, all of it.

And he does, he can tell Jungkook does. He can tell in the way he kisses every part of his face and then a bit more. He can tell in the way he arranges them to sleep, with his chest pressed against Jimin’s back and one arm around his middle, a hand drawing patterns on his stomach. He can tell in the way he presses a soft kiss behind his ear and whispers an 'I love you, baby' before his breathing gets uneven. And he can tell Jungkook does in the way he holds him tight while they sleep, not because he’s afraid to let go, but because they now know that this right here, this electric feeling is forever.
