ochako looked to the horizon. the sun was nearly set and stars glittered faintly in the darkening sky. a silver sheen stretched across the city as the lights flickered on, letting the stars grow dimmer. the moon rose up from behind the city, emitting a soft white glow.
next to her, bakugou looked to the horizon as well. the two had been in the gym for the past few hours. normally, kirishima would’ve joined them, but he had promised to hang out with kaminari, mina, and sero the day before. ochako didn’t mind being alone with bakugou, though. as aggressive as he was, she enjoyed his presence. he also didn’t hold back when they sparred and gave constructive advice. in short, he wasn’t a bad guy once you knew got to know him.
“this would be a great place to have a date,” bakugou said. “too bad it’s just us.”
ochako stared at him. he didn’t say things like this. his comment was strangely out-of-character, and she was starting to wonder if she slammed him on the ground too hard.
“are you okay?” she asked, wide-eyed. she stood on her tip toes to check his temperature. “are you sick?”
he smacked her hand away. “fuck off,” he growled.
she didn’t. they were going in the same direction.
after a while, his expression softened. “the view from here is amazing, you know. the sky, the stars... it would be something a couple or something would want to see on a date.” he turned to look at her, his red eyes seemingly gentle in the moonlight. “it’s only us, and there’s no chance of anything happening. you’re not my type, anyways.” (ochako had to laugh at that. he wasn’t her type, either.) “it’s a fucking waste.”
“okay, okay. but hold up.” ochako held up a hand between them. “you say that there’s absolutely nothing going on between us. you can’t just say something like that without my call. i think i should be the one to say it.”
“but you’ll call?”
ochako didn’t answer his question, instead dramatically staring off into the distance. “you must think you look so adorable in that polyester suit of yours—”
“it’s wool. get your fucking facts right, uraraka.”
she ignored him. she knew the difference between polyester and wool, as polyester was cheaper, but it was fun seeing him riled up over something as trivial as clothes. “—but you’re right, in a way. i’d never fall for you. you’re you, after all.”
“the hell's that supposed to mean?”
“oh, nothing.”
he scowled. “you little shit.”
she turned back to the city. the sky was fully dark now, a light, silver aura covering the city. the moon was now in the middle of the sky, its light sparkling on the stone pathway they were on. the black fence posts had a glow to them.
“but this would be perfect for someone looking for that kind of spark, y’know?” she said. “someone who feels that there’s something, but i’m feeling nothing.”
“that so?”
she shrugged, cheekily grinning at him. “it could be less than nothing.”
he smirked back at her. “so? you finally agree?”
she gave the city one last look. “it’s a waste of a lovely night.”
